Writing games for US wireless carriers - general newbie question

I am a newbie to kvm and j2me so excuse me if these question are very basic or if i'm asking the wrong questions.
I have been asked to quickly research writing games in java for US wireless carriers. Ideally I'd like to pick a carrier (e.g. Verizonwireless) and find out more about writing for them. How should I go about researching this?
My research so far has found:
General j2me info:
I did some initial searching in the forum and found that the following link will give me a basic guide to j2me:
http://access1.sun.com/SRDs/access1_srds.html.
If I look at the documentation for -
- Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME)
- Mobile Information Device Profile 1.0.1 (MIDP)
Is this still the best place to look at online?
Specific wireless carrier info:
I had no luck finding where I should look for information on specific
wireless carriers. Any suggestions? Also am I approaching this the right way or should I be looking at the specific java enabled mobile phones rather than the wireless carrier? Or is it a combination of the two?
Thanks for any help.

If the games are going to be networked then you should find out what type of network the carrier has (TDMA,CDMA,GSM with or without GPRS, etc. what bandwidths.... WAP or I-Mode). Regardless, you should be also concerned with what are the phones available on the carrier and what is their Java support.

  • Wireless Network/printing Newbie Questions....

    Okay, first of all I love Airport and OSX Tiger on my new MacBook. I recieve a strong wireless internet connection in my Los Angeles apartment, and I have NO idea where it's coming from! (my neighbors? The police station across the street,? Just in the air?!?)
    I want a wireless printer. My apple store highly recommended either an Airport Extreme or Express with a printer attached to the USB port...
    My question is this: If I just buy a laser printer with built in wireless (802.11b/g) network capability (say the HP LaserJet 1022NW), can I just set up my MacBook to communicate directly to the printer with Airport via the 802.11b/g standard? I notice the Airport menu gives me a "Create Network" option...?
    Is it this easy?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I notice the Airport menu gives me a "Create Network" option...?
    This option is for creating computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) networks utilizing either the AirPort menu or Internet Connect for creating and connecting to this type of network.
    It may be possible for a wireless printer, which supports the "ad-hoc" network type, to connect to the "computer-to-computer" network. (With "ad-hoc," as opposed to an "infrastructure" network type, the wireless network would not require a router or access point.)

  • Wireless Networking options for a Dual 2 G5 - Newbie Question

    I have a home network with two PC's running on a Microsoft Broadband Wireless Router. I want to add the MAC to this home network so it can pick up the wireless signal for internet access and file and print sharing.
    Is the Airport Express the only option to do this? Are there any aftermarket products that would work and be compatible with a Microsoft Router? I talked to Apple and of course they could only tell me about the Airport Express that has to be ordered at an Apple store and installed by them?
    Would a Linksys or Belkin or other type of Wireless USB or card work?
    Thanks for the help.

    Not quite, though yes your computer is limited to PC3200.
    Micron(Crucial) makes memory that works with either PC3200 or PC4000. Your computer won't run any faster. It is still DDR400 (200MHz). Even if you used just PC4000 it still isn't going to be any faster.
    The other factor is the CAS Latency. Where if you had all CL 2.0 or 2.5 it would be 'faster' though no one would notice probably (unless working in memory for hours on one project).

  • Help for building a driver and newbie questions in the area.

    Hello,
    im currently needing to develop a driver for a usb device, a link cable. I allready know (at least i think i know) the process to depevelop such driver.
    The process would be something link this (dind put any arguments in functions to be faster):
    - usb_client_attach (dev_info_t * dip, USB_DRIVER_VERSION, FLAGS); - for system reconiction of device
    - usb_get_dev_data (); - for having the main/control pipe
    - usb_lookup_ep_data(); - for get endpoint
    - usb_open_pipe(); - opening the pipe (can be done several times for several pipes)
    - read/write/bulk transfers(); - exchanging data throuh input/output pipes if such exists
    - usb_close_pipe(); - closing all pipes other than the main one
    - usb_client_dettach () - dettaching device from system
    i think this is the general order of events/routines.
    My problem is in the first routine, the usb_client_attach(). How do i know that im connecting the right device. (lets say id like to connect a USB PEN for example), the dev_info_t * dip is an empty structure, how do i fill it with the device information for the device id like to connect? For example how come do i know if the device info in the "DIP" structure belongs to the USB PEN id like to connect and not to any other USB device connected?
    I searched all documentation (the online one) and could not find an example of how could i do such a thing.
    Is there any way to do that?
    Thanks in advance for any help, im really needing to have some clarification in this matter.
    Miguel

    well just a quick update, i changed the way of programing and stated using the /dev/usb/xxx.xxx/0 pipes and allready can get the device information.

  • General newbie questions

    Method getX(): Which would be the difference between using "return this.x;" and "return x;"?
    public class Point
    private int x,y;
    public Point()
    public Point (int x, int y)
    super();
    this.x=x;
    this.y=y;
    public int getX()
    return this.x;
    Constructors never have return types; do they?
    When i use copy constructor, i create a reference to the calling object. However, when i use cloning i create a totally new object. Is this true? If it's not, which is the difference?
    Thanks

    Method getX(): Which would be the difference between
    using "return this.x;" and "return x;"?In that particular case, nothing. On the other hand...
    int x = 42;
    public int foo(int x) {
       return x;
    }In the above, calling foo(10) would return 10, not 42. Change it to return this.x and it will return 42. The "this" keyword lets you disambiguate local and instance variables.
    Constructors never have return types; do they?No. By definition a constructor is returning an object of the class's type.
    When i use copy constructor, i create a reference to
    the calling object. However, when i use cloning i
    create a totally new object. Is this true? If it's
    not, which is the difference?
    ThanksIn both cases you are creating an instance of the object in memory, and returning a reference to the object.
    A copy constructor will normally take a target class, the attributes of which are copied. The effect of this:
    Foo foo2 = new Foo(foo1);And this:
    Foo foo2 = (Foo)foo1.clone();Will probably be identical if the first is a copy constructor - but they don't have to be. For example, you might want to make a deep copy with the copy constructor, but a shallow copy with clone. But you could do something different too - so it depends on your requirements.

  • How do I find games for my ipod classic 5th gen in the itunes store? Or do they not sell them anymore?

    I have looked all over but can't find any games for my ipod. Some older questions from 2010 say that it's under the apps list. Well it's not there anymore. I'm starting to think they don't sell the games anymore.  I would love it if somone could tell me for sure, or how to find them. Thank you.

    Hi
    I have been looking also for games for the ipod classic.  You would have thought they would still them since they still sell the ipod classic.
    Apple need to update the help guide as it still states how to look for games

    For some reason, your Mac doesn't recognise that a keyboard is present, so it looks for a wireless keyboard. The question is, why doesn't your Mac recognise that a keyboard is attached?
    First, you need to make sure you remove all peripherals, especially USB peripherals (the keyboard is on the USB bus). Then restart holding down the Shift key. This should boot in Safe mode. If the computer boots normally (not in safe mode) and the keyboard is still not working, try resetting the SMC
    Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

    If that still doesn't fix the problem, then the keyboard (or its controller) is probably damaged and needs to be replaced.

    If you mean you are having trouble activating your iPhone after
    updating to iOS 6:
    iOS 6.0.1
    Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
    hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
    original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
    carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
    if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
    My phone is from USA and unlocked version and I paid 750 USD.
    Where did you acquire this iPhone?
    USA
    What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
    I used BSNL - India previously. After I get problem, I used Mobily -Saudi Arabia again I got problem and I am trying to use Airtel - India.
    Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
    What does It mean?
    What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

  • My iPhone 5S was ignored to claim with Thai wireless carrier

    I really confident in Apple product a lot, when Apple releases the new products I feel that I would like to be the owner of them all.
    Apple is really famous in Thailand, iPhone is the top ranking of product that Thai people would like to be owned. I'm the one of these all people.
    I buy iPhone 5S after it sold by Truemove-H. With confidentially in Apple product and the first Thai authorized carrier by Apple, I booked and brought it immediately.
    My first unboxing of the new iPhone 5S was in Central Chiang Rai (iBeat). I have booked two iPhones. I unboxed the first iPhone (32GB) and found 2 dead pixels on screen, unfortunately the second iPhone (16GB) also have a dead pixel. Luckily, they returned me a money. This unboxing disappointed me a little bit in them of Apple product quality.
    I got a call from another shop, they said that my iPhone 5s that I had booked is available. I came to the shop and unbox it, I carefully checked the dead pixels and others majority thing, nothing dysfunctional.
    I decided to buy and came-back to my home until I later found that the screen is loose and I can hear the sound (the clicking sound) when I press on the top right corner of the screen.
    I was worried a lot and contact to the Apple via chatting, the staff suggested me that I should to contact to the wireless carrier (Truemove H). I was not complacent to contact to Truemove Shop in Central Airport Ching Mai. I waited to talk with them around 1 hours. When was in my queue, I talked to them that How can I use my new iPhone with a loose screen? I really worried about this a lot because I should be the way it is. Truemove- H staff answer me that this kind of issue cannot be claim and return as a new phone or refurbished phone. It is still working, there is no problem with software, we could not claim this iPhone for you.
    I felt disappoint again when I have heard the staff said to me like this. I felt that the Apple standard unable to use in Apple product. I think if I buy this iPhone with Apple directly it would not be a problem like this.
    I would like to ask to Apple that how can I do next? I don't mind that I would get a refurbished one or not. I just worry about the standard that Apple have in each country, it quite strongly different. for the example; I can claim this in US or UK but I can't do anything in Thailand.
    How can I recall my feeling and confidentiality from Apple?

  • After 8.3 update, 5c no longer connects to wireless carrier!

    After completing the 8.3 update, my iPhone 5c will no longer connect to my wireless carrier.  I cannot receive or send calls.  The only way I can text is if I'm connected to my WiFi. I took my phone to the store and they replaced the SIM card, which didn't help.  I was advised to come home, backup to iCloud, reset the phone to factory settings, and see if that helped.  I did that, and now I keep getting an error during phone setup saying "the activation server is temporarily unavailable."  Now what do I do?  They told me not to connect to iTunes on my computer because it could have stored "bad data" from a previous backup.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hello RacerChick81,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    The reason you were told to not plug in your iPhone into iTunes on your computer was to ensure you did not restore from a previous backup.  In this instance you will likely need to put your iPhone into recovery mode and the plug it in to your computer.  For further troubleshooting steps on this issue where you get an error that the activation server is unavailable, please follow the directions below.
    Try these steps:
    If your carrier provided a SIM card, make sure it's in your iPhone.
    Restart the iPhone.
    Try to reach the activation server another way, then try to activate.
    Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you can't activate using a cellular data connection.
    Try connecting to iTunes if you can't activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
    Check the system status for iOS Device Activation. If the iOS Device Activation status isn't green, try activating your iPhone later.
    If you receive an alert message when you try to activate your iPhone, place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you still can't complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.
    If you're asked to enter a password to proceed with activating the iPhone, Activation Lock might be enabled as part of Find my iPhone.

  • Best Practice for FlexConnect Wireless roaming in MediaNet environment?

    Hello!
    Current Cisco best practice recommendations for enterprise MediaNet design, specify that VLANs be local to a switch / switch stack (i.e., to limit the scope of spanning-tree).
    In the wireless world, this causes problems if you want users while roaming to keep real-time applications up and running.  Every time they connect to a new AP on a different VLAN, then they will need to get a new IP address, which interrupts real-time apps.
    So...best practice for LAN users causes real problems for wireless users.
    I thought I'd post here in case there's a best practice for implementing wireless roaming in a routed environment that we might have missed so far!
    We have a failover pair of FlexConnect 7510s, btw, configured for local switching for Internal users, and central switching with an anchor controller on the DMZ for Guest users.
    Thanks,
    Deb

    Thanks for your replies, Stephen and JSnyder.
    The situation here is that the original design engineer is no longer here, and the original design was not MediaNet-friendly, in that it had a very few /20 subnets bridged over entire large sites.
    These several large sites (with a few hundred wireless users per site), are connected to an HQ location (where the 7510s in failover mode are installed) via 1G ethernet hand-offs (MPLS at the WAN provider).  The 7510s are new, and are replacing older contollers at the HQ location.
    The internal employee wireless users use resources both local to their site, as well as centralized resources.  There are at least as many Guest wireless users per site as there are internal employee users, and the service to them consists of Internet traffic only.  (When moved to the 7510s, their traffic will continue to be centrally switched and carried to an anchor controller in the DMZ.)
    (1) So, going local mode seems impractical due to the sheer number of users whose traffic bound for their local site would be traversing the WAN twice.  Too much bandwidth would be used.  So, that implies the need to use Flex / HREAP mode instead.
    (2) However, re-designing each site's IP environment for MediaNet would suggest to go routed to the closet.  However, this breaks seamless roaming for users....
    So, this conundrum is why I thought I'd post here, and see if there was some other cool / nifty solution I wasn't yet aware of.
    The only other (possibly friendly to both needs) solution I'd thought of was to GRE tunnel a subnet from each closet to the collapsed Core / Disti switch at each site.  Unfortunately, GRE tunnels are not supported in the rev of IOS on the present equipment, and so it isn't possible to try this idea.
    Another "blue sky" idea I had (not for this customer, but possibly elsewhere in the future), is to use LAN switches such as 3850s that have WLC functionality built-in.  I haven't yet worked with the WLC s/w available on those, but I was thinking it looks like they could be put into a mobility group, and L3 user roaming between them might then work.  Do you happen to know if this might be a workable solution to the overall big-picture problem?
    Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to reply!
    Deb

  • What Application is required for Programming a game for a Nokia 7650

    Hello, I am new to all this and I would like to program a game on a Nokia 7650, I have downloaded a few games and transfered them via infrared to my phone (JAD and JAR files)which are pretty cool. All I know they are either written in Java or C++.I understand C++, is faster but more difficult to program so I would like to begin using Java. Please advise me what Java Application I need on my PC to write a Game for the Nokia 7650, there are so many Applications on the Java Site, I have no idea which one to download.I am not interested writting a game on the pc only the mobile. Many thanks.

    .I am not interested writting a game on the pc only the mobile. Many thanksYou still 'write' the game on the PC, you simply deploy it on the mobile :)
    1) Learn java
    2) Learn how to write games
    3) Learn the mobile phone API, and how to write small, efficient programs
    4) start writing mobile games
    if you've never done any programming before, then you've got >1years work there :S

    The only one that can issue a PUK code is a carrier, which you've already made clear you don't have.
    If itunes does not recognise your ipad that may be another issue. What version OS is on your computer and what steps did you follow to uninstall itunes and then reiinstall itunes on your computer?
    And, do you at least see the sidebar on the left hand side of itunes?

    Use the Migration Assistant(it'll put the data into a different user account if you've already created one), or drag them and their data through Ethernet, wireless, Target Disk mode, or through an external drive, or reinstall them from the original source.
