Writing method with if

public class positiveornegative {
    public static String numbercheck (int number){
         if (number<=0){
              System.out.println(false);
              return ;
         else if (number>0){
              System.out.println(true);
              return ;     
    public static void main(String[] args) {
         System.out.println(numbercheck(3));
}I want to make a method which which will return true if a given number is positive, and false otherwise. How can i use boolean or something else rather than writing println(true) or println(false). and what should i write after return??

I understand how u did but i want to do it with if but i couldn't apply it into the return statement.
public static boolean numbercheck (int number){
                    return      if (number<=0){
                         false;
                   return if (number>0) {
                        true;     
                   }is it going to be something like this?
