WRT1900AC - DHCP providing wrong addresses

Deployed a WRT1900AC to replace a Fios Actiontect Router. I set the WRT1900AC as the primary. I changed the subnet to 192.168.2.0/24 and setup another router to act as the WAN for the actiontec to get the Caller ID info and VOD info.
Everything works exactly as expected except my wifi is not giving out the correct dhcp addresses. If I look in the logs I see the correct offer and then another offer right after that with the wrong address and I can't understand it. Everything else is working perfect and if I configure statics for the wifi clients it works fine.
Here is the output of the log -

Changed the MAC of the wrt to the MAC of the actiontech, had vverizon release the ip. Yes otn into wrt1900. I'm not home to get the model of the actiontech.
Back end router getting 192.168.2.101. All the rules work for forwarding.
I am fairly certain it's not the actiontech or the be router giving out additional ips as it doesn't do it when I'm connected via wire OR the guest wifi is enabled and I connect to that. Only the 2 & 5 ghz networks.
I didn't have to change the MAC address of WRT for it to work.

  • Can WLC's built-in DHCP provide IP addresses for wired client?

    Hi,
We've got a WLC running on 7.0.98.0. It's providing IP addresses for the Guest Wireless users. Now we'd like to put a couple of wired workstations for those customers who don't bring laptops. I'm wondering if I put these workstations on the same guest wireless vlan, they can still get IPs from the WLC. If not, I have set static IPs on these workstations.
    Thanks in advance.
    Robert

    Rob:
The answer is simply "No". WLC can not provide wired clients on same wireless VLAN with IP addresses if the DHCP is configured on WLC.
The case metnioned by fbarboza above is a "very" special configuraiton on WLANs where the WLC is configured to take care of some wired clients and it needs you to have two WLCs  (The featured is called wired guest). This special case does not apply at your situation.
With your situation my answer above applies.
Note A internal DHCP server pool will only serve the wireless clients of that controller, not clients of other controllers. Also, internal DHCP server can only serve wireless clients and not wired clients.

  • FYI: Manually provided DNS addresses are higher priority than DHCP's

As an FYI to folks here concerned about the issue, manually entered DNS addresses do indeed supercede any provided by DHCP despite what you might be led to believe by the appearance of the Network->Advanced->DNS preference pane.
When you manually enter a DNS server address in Mac OS X Leopard's Network preference pane, the manually entered address(es) appear below any DHCP-provided addresses (which are shown in grey as they are unchangeable), leading one to assume that DHCP-provided addresses always have priority over any a user may specify.
However, a check of the /etc/resolv.conf file generated by Mac OS X shows that in fact user-provided DNS addresses will supercede any provided by DHCP.
As an example, if your router promotes itself as a DHCP server, its IP address, say "192.168.0.253," will appear, greyed out, in the Network->Advanced->DNS preferences pane.
If you then add, say, OpenDNS' addresses of "208.67.222.222" and "208.67.220.220," the preferences window will show:
    192.168.0.253 (greyed out)
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
But the generated /etc/resolv.conf will show the order Mac OS X will actually reference the servers is:
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    nameserver 192.168.0.253
While this is non-intuitive with respect to how the addresses are displayed in the preference pane, it is exactly the way one would hope things would work - allowing you to specify DNS servers to be used in lieu of any a router provides, especially handy if the router propagates the address of a DNS server that is having issues or is simply overloaded or offline.
Note that as I do not have an unpatched copy of Leopard available, I cannot say if this has always been Mac OS X's behavior or if this ordering was added by Security Update 2008-005.
Regardless, this also means no special modifications are required to try to "turn off" the honoring of DHCP-provided DNS server addresses.

    Topher Kessler wrote:
That's good to know. However, users may wish to solely provide their own DNS servers and not have the chance that in case their DNS servers are unreachable they end up using the default one.
that's the problem. there is no way to easily remove the default DHCP provided DNS server. there is [a hack|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080725172011439&query=dns] that has been discussed in several threads but it can break various functions.
I guess one option would be to just add more custom DNS servers to ensure they get used over the default one.
That's the only reasonable thing to do.

It is not available in Mail any longer (for quite a while, now).
You can add a rule to have Mail mark them as junk, or you could possibly log onto your Email provider's web site and block that address.

  • WRONG ADDRESS AND DUPLICATE BILLING

I am sick and tired of BT. I honestly wish that I would have gone with an alternative provider for both line and broadband.
After informing them that I had moved house (provided new address) and said I wanted my old line cancelled and a new line put into my new house with BT Broadband, I have had no end of problems.
After ordering the broadband online (to my new address), with the 'help' of a BT online spokesperson, I was emailed confirmation that the broadband order was going to my OLD address. Within minutes I was on the phone to say that the order address was wrong and that I had moved house and had already informed them of my new address (at that point I then provided my new address over the phone again). I asked for that order to be cancelled and to have the BT Broadband order to go to my new line at my new address. Over the phone I was told that this was done, my address had been changed and that the new BT Broadband order was coming to my new address not my old one.
The BT Broadband did arrive at my new address, however, it had also obviously arrived at my old address too. As I received my first bill for £93 (bearing in mind one broadband order, with line rental and the postage and packaging should have come to just over £40 - as I don't make phonecalls with my BT line.) Therefore, I had been charged for delivery of two home hubs, two broadband packages and 2 line rentals.
After phoning up again and explaining yet again that all I wanted to do was cancel my old line and have a new line at my new house and have Broadband installed (for the first time from BT) as I had always had Virgin beforehand - with no problems may I add! The BT man at the end said it was an error and that I was going to be refunded the duplicate amounts and I gave him my new address AGAIN, and he said that was changed so no more mail would be delivered there. I wanted a promise that this duplication wouldn't happen again next month, when I got billed again, however he said he was worried that it might. He gave me a reference number and said he would sort it out offline with his managers and get it sorted. He said that if I phoned again to ask about the case I should just give the reference number and anyone looking at my account would see the notes on it and would know the past history of this problem...so I wouldn't have to go through it all again.
A couple days later, I receive more mail from BT, delivered to my old address (I have a redirection service in place at the moment, so I can see what was sent to old address) stating I had requested a payment card for BT. Again I was on the phone, quoting my new reference number so I didn't have to go through it all again. The BT lady could not see anything on my account regarding this. So I told her the story and got her to check the address on my account, which was my OLD address, so I again provided her with my new address!! She checked my bill and said that the refund of the duplication will show up on my online bill within 24 hours, yet it still has not been refunded. The payment card I didn't request was cancelled and as a sign of so say good will she said I will give you the BT Answer 1571 absolutely free and the privacy at home. Usually I don't sign upto these things as usually there is a catch but she said it was absolutely free.
So I have just come home from work to find two letters from BT, funnily enough that were sent to my OLD address, telling me about my new 'order' which will be charged at £1.02 if I don't make 2 calls a month. I had to laugh at the irony of a free goodwill gesture being given to me by BT for them failing at changing my address the account, yet confirming the gesture by sending it to my old address (and to have hidden costs aswell!) To top it off the other letter, to my old address, was asking me to return my BT Equipment. Well I am sorry to say that the BT home hub that was sent by yourselves to the wrong address was never redirected to me and has probably been left outside of the old address somewhere by the postman. But after phoning up relentless amounts of times to BT asking them to change the address, what else can I do! I can't even be bothered to waste my time to speak to BT for them to tell me categorically that they have changed my address to then find it has not been changed.
Words fail me sometimes, although I am sure to Tweet about my BT adventures to let others know that basic things like changing address is too complex for BT to sort out! Do not even get me started to what will happen if I get charged twice every month just because of BT's own admission of error. Really sort it out.

  • Default to wrong address

The Mail system has memorized email addresses that are out of date or that I don't want to use. When I type in a name or group list, it defaults to the wrong address.
In one case I have a group name in my address book that I cannot get it to default to and it consistently goes to one with similar words, but not even in the same order that is set up on another company's lists. This is even though I have not used that address in a year and I use the group from my address book a few times a week. In other instances those I've corresponded with have changed their email addresses, but the system keeps choosing the old one.
How can I delete email addresses I don't want to ever use from "Mail's Memory"?

    Hello Margaret.
The Mail.app stores all message recipients in the List of Previous Recipients in Mail.
The Mail.app autofill feature pulls from the Address Book and the list of Previous Recipients in Mail.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients.
A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address. You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered.
Removing a previous recipient from the list has no effect on Address Book entries.

  • Photo book shipped to wrong address...

Hi All: I recently ordered 2 photo books through iPhoto, cost about $120, but they were shipped to the wrong address. I live in NY and they were sent to CA. I called FedEX to complain, but it turns out that Apple put the wrong address on the package. Has anyone else had/heard-of this happening? I'm now waiting for my email from iPhoto support to hear how they will fix this problem, but was curious as to whether or not other occurrences were easily and quickly rectified. Thanks for any info.
    -Dave

    Dave:
Report that to Apple at http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/orderbooks/. They have been very good at correcting problems like that.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Mail Contact Resolves to Wrong Address

Hello, I have a user that is sending a message to a email address and something is resolving the email address to the wrong address.
First of all, the email address in question is a mail contact on our system and is in the GAB. The SMTP email address of this mail contact is correct in both AD and the GAB.
Secondly, the users'  Outlook has all invalid autocomplete entries removed for this email address. The user
does have the recipient save in his Outlook Contacts but does not have an email address listed there, just his name and phone number.
So, what it looks like is happening is that the user is typing in the correct email address in the TO: field, but when he sends the message something
is resolving to this other email address, an address that is not defined anyway.
    Any ideas? Exchange 2010/Outlook 2010

  • I'm hooked up to the ethernet using DHCP with manual address. It's running (green) but my internet (Safari, messenger, email) doesn't work! Help!

I'm running an iMac with Mountain Lion. Not only do we do accounting work on this computer with AccountEdge, but the computer functions as a server to another computer in a different state.
Anyway, I set a static IP address (Using DHCP with manual address) on it (to allow for a VPN to the computer in the different state) and it is connected (green dot) - meaning that the other computer in the different state can connect to us via that ethernet line - but for some reason Safari, Messanger, and Apple Email won't work.
But if I switch a dynamic IP (DHCP auto), I can use the internet (Safari, messanger, email), but the computer in the different state can't connect to this computer.
How can I fix this so that the computer in the different state can connect to this computer and that the internet (Safari, messanger, and email) can work at the same time?
    Much thanks!

No but if they are using a VPN Tunnel for the connection that restricts all internet traffic over the tunnel. Which means you can't use that same computer to broswe the internet or connect to other computers or devices on your LAN.
I'd need to see the actual setup, router and the IP addresses you are using.
Networking and remote networking is fairly easy when you are in front of the systems you are working on. Doing it over the internet on a forum is almost impossible. Tha is why I suggested you get local help, like the person that originally set it up.

  • I'm trying to reset my apple ID password but forgot my security questions. Apple are sending the confirmation e-mail to the wrong address, please help?

I'm trying to reset my apple ID password but forgot my security questions. Apple are sending the confirmation e-mail to the wrong address, please help?

    Hello AndrewsAFCx,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
If you cannot remember your security questions for your Apple ID, I would recommend these steps outlined in the article named:
Apple ID: All about Apple ID security questions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID passwordsign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
Note: If you have forgotten your password and answer your security questions incorrectly too many times in a row, you will be unable to try to answer your security questions for a period of time. During that time you will not be able to reset your password and will not have access to your account.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • DHCP with manual address doesn't work

My ISP has decided that they won't support static addresses for the
DHCP servers anymore. I'd really like to keep static IP addresses, so
I tried using the "DHCP with manual address." Unfortunately, it
doesn't recognize my Router which is serving DHCP. What's busted here?
Is it Tiger or is it my router (old mansesnse MIH-130).
    Any help is appreciated.
    thanks.

Comcast I believe is a cable connection.
Interesting, I found that if I continue to manually configure the
TCP/IP settings and just point the DNS to the router (192.168.1.1),
all works perfectly. This worked for 10.4.5, 9.2 and Yellowdog Linux as well.
When you say your isp is no longer using static ip addresses this only affecs your WAN ip. Setup your router to receieve internet via DHCP.
Your LAN ip addresss won't change. You can give all your macs static ip addresses if you like. It does not affect your WAN IP.

    [skyask],
Honestly, I am not very sure where the JVM is located for the WebLogic 5.1 application server. You probably need to contact your local BEA rep office for support.
The jar file for the JavaMail API is either mail.jar (contains the API libraries) or mailapi.jar (contains the API libraries and all the providers), so I guess if you search the WebLogic directories, you might be able to locate it.
It also depends on the OS platform that you are working on and the WebLogic installation documentation may give a clue or two where the .jar files for optional Java packages are found.
