WRT54GX with SRX v1 internet traffic problem

I have a problem with my wrt54gx router that i can't solve on my own. I have an ADSL connection with the declarated speed of 9.2Mbps/768kbps. Whenever i'm connected directly with the modem, the connection is OK, but when i connect wirelessly (internet connection via cable to the router is fine), the connection speed is slashed by more than a half! I tried upgrading the router, tried to tweak some router settings and still nothing, even tried reseting to factory defaults. The thing is that this happend all of a sudden so i don't know what could have caused this problem.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

hi... logon to router's setup page and try changing channel to 1 or 11, click on the advanced wireless settings and try reducing beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, also try changing transmission rate to 54Mbps...check whether it works or not and let me know the results.

  • Incoming Internet Traffic Problem

    Hi
I am having a strange problem on my network, where traffic that is incoming from my internet uplink behaves as if it is being shaped.  After it hits about 60Mbps, it drops right down - sometimes to as low as 300k, although usually somewhere in the 2 - 10Mb range.  I can confirm that the internet supplier is sending all of the traffic, and if I ssh onto router (a 7201) and check the interface I can see from the rx/load that all traffic is being received into the interface - it seems like it's just not being passed on.  I've attached a graph, below, to illustrate this.
I can confirm the link is 1000Mbps, full duplex and showing no errors.  Neither I nor the internet supplier are doing any traffic shaping.  Can anybody offer any guidance?  I can post more details, configs, spec, etc, if need be.
    Cheers

You will needs to keep this file running. Switching to BT has not caused that. That file would be needed whether you were with 02 ,TalkTalk, Sky, Virgin or whatever.

  • ASA 5505 - 2 Internet Connections, Problems with the Default Route

    Hey there,
i have a Problem at a Customer Site at the moment. The customer uses an ASA 5505 with two internet connections attached to it. On the first connection (which is the only one in use at the moment) he has some Static-PAT's from Outside to Inside where he translates different services to the internal servers. He also has a site-2-site VPN terminating there and AnyConnect.
He now wants to switch the Internet Traffic from Inside to the new Internet Connection. Therefore changing the default route to that new ISPs Gateway. The problem now is, that no traffic recieved on the old "outside" Interface is transmitted back out of that old "outside" Interface. And this happens although the "same-security permit intra-interface" command is set.
Can you tell me what's wrong here? For every Static-PAT from outside to inside there is also a dynamic PAT from inside to outside. But the ASA seems to ignore this. I have not looked into the Logs yet, was too busy finding the problem because i had no real time window to test on the productive ASA.
Can it be achieved in any way? Having a default route on the ASA which leads any traffic to the second internet connection while still having connections on the first internet connection where no explicit route can be set? Because connections arrive from random IPs?
Many thanks for your help in advance!
    Steffen

Phillip, indeed , I have as well read may comments,it all depends on your environment as they all differ from one another, you best bet is to have a good solid plan for upgrade and fall back. You do have a justification to upgrade for features needed, so I would suggest the following:
1- Do a search again in forum for ASA code upgrades and look at comments from users that have gone through this process and note their impact in fuctionality if any. I believe this is good resource to collect information .
2- Very important , look into release notes for a particular version. For example version 8.0, look into open CAVEATS usually at the end of the link page, reading the open bugs gives you clues what has not yet been resolved for that particular code and if in fact could impact you in your environment, it is possible that a particular bug does not realy apply to your environment becuase you have yet not implemented that particualr configuration. Usually we all try to aim towards a GD (General Deployment) code which is what we all understand is most stable but not necesarily means you have to be stack in that code waiting for another GD release, in my personal experience I have upgraded our firewall from 7.2 to 8.0(3) long ago and had no issues, and recently upgraded to 8.0(4)when it was first release in August this year.
    Release notes
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/prod_release_notes_list.html
    3- AS a good practice precaution -
a-Backup firewall configs in clear text as well as via tftp code.
b-Backup running code and ASDM version code currently running in firewall.
c- Save the output of " show version " to have as reference for all the feature licenses you currently have running as asll as activation keys - good info to have to compare with after upgrade.
d- Ensure that the code you will be using to upgrade also uses correct ASDM version code.
I think with thorough assesment and preparation you can indeed minimize impact.

  • How many MB of internet traffic do you generate with iphone 4s?

    hi Everybody,
with my iphone 4s i generate a huge amount of internet traffic.
    In 15 days almost 1GB.
Never had such a huge traffic with my prevous iphone 4 neither with ipad3.
SIRI is disabled but i do not really understand what is the cause.
Obviously also the battery goes down quickly. I tried to wipe the phone and setup it again W/O restoring the backup. Same problem.
Have you experienced the same issue?
    thank you,
    Alessio

iphone home screens do not rotate. some apps support rotation but many do not. In either case the Home screen will always remain in the vertical orientation. I suggest that you back up your phone. Then get the phone replaced or repaired. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Jumpy scroll wheel control with mouse. Only with Firefox, not Internet explorer.Even pushing the scroll wheel and trying to adjust for a smooth easy scroll the text stops and starts. Problem fixed itself when I updated to 6. 0.2 from an older version but the problem returned after about a week.. The problems go away when I go to web site and scroll but is back when I return to my home page (mozilla firefox)

Good post, and glad to hear you had a solid transition. Mine went well too, though I think I beat the rush.
It's worth noting that the vast and overwhelming majority of headaches people were experiencing were related to download and activation servers (as well as credit check servers for some mobile carriers) being crushed and overwhelmed.
To give you an idea of just how crushed, here are some numbers. In the last year, something in the neighborhood of 8 million iPhones have been sold. That's just shy of 22,000 per day. So the typical traffic is around 22,000 times a day, someone is hitting the server for update/activation.
This weekend, Apple sold 1 million iPhones. In other words, 333,333 phones per day. Holy crap!
As if that wasn't enough, there are 8 million of us out there with the first generation iPhone. Not only do we need to download the new firmware, but we have to install it. The installation process requires hitting the activation server again, to validate the phone. Mind you, not everybody upgraded this weekend, but a few million did. For the sake of argument, we'll assume that's 1 million a day. So, instead of the normall traffic of 22K phones a day, those activation servers got SLAMMED with 1.33 million activations per day.
It ***** that some people had delays and hiccups and a hard time and everything, but completely understandable. With luck things will run more smoothly from here on out.

  • I'm having problems with my mobile internet connection

I'm having problems with my mobile internet connection. Wifi works fine. It seems like my connection get lost every tuesday and friday between 11 and 12 am local time (guess it would be between 2 and 3 am Los angeles time for example). The connection won't comeback by itself. I have to turn the phone, iPhone 4s iOS 5.0.1, off and back on again. The connection immediatly works fine after the restart and stays fine for days. I really don't know what to do. My provider doesn't seem to know either. Tried a lot of things, new settings, resets, I even got a new iPhone. Still the same problem however. Richt now I changes the time setting to see it the problem occurs at another time. Btw: the phone doesn't say "no service" and I can send sms messages and make phonecalls. The 3G symbol or the circular symbol is shown next to the name of the provider.
Does somebody has an idea what this might be? Thanks a lot.

Update. My carrier says the antenna of my iPhone 4s is not so good as the one in the iPhone 3G. They can't solve the problem. Their signal is too weak for the 4s at places I spend most of my time. Not the answer I expected, but I'm free to choose an other carrier. Hope this will help.
This was not the correct answer, I accidentially clicked the button..

if you have internet sharing on imac with Mountain Lion its stil problem with sleep mode ! why ???

Log a bug with Apple, with whatever details you can provide.  In the interrim, consider acquiring a router; either a repurposed x86 box running open-source networking or gateway software, or a commercial device.

  • Problem with not getting Internet Connect on AirPort Express

Problem with not getting Internet Connect on AirPort Express (version7.6.4). Error says cannot get valid IP address. Have reset Siemens SpeedStream 4100 several time, even with tech support from the big "A" DSL provider. Plug MacBook Pro directly into modem and works fine. Unplugged AirPort, even reset it, still no luck. A bad Express?? or am not looking in the right place to make connection. Was working fine up until Sunday.

Connect the AirPort Express (AX) to the cable modem via Ethernet cable.
In configuring the AX using AirPort Utility:
Under Internet, set the connection to be Ethernet using DHCP.
Under Connection Sharing, set it to distribute a range of IP addresses.
Under AirPort>Wireless, set the Wireless Mode to Create a wireless network, and fill in the remaining settings in the same window. Until you get it working, you might want to set Wireless Security to None.

  • Internet connection problems with OSX 10.10.3

Does anyone else have very bad Internet connection problems after downloading OSX 10.101.3?  Does anyone have a solution? P.S. What do you think of PHOTOS, after Aperture?

1, No problems here with internet on 10.10.3
    2, No solution
3, I think that Photos is a toy. Apple has basically neutered both Aperture and iPhotos with their efforts to make their desktop solution match the iOS solution.
I am currently looking for a non-Apple solution for my photographic needs since Photos in no way shape or form is able to fill my needs.

  • ASA 5505 9.1(2) NAT/return traffic problems

As part of an office move we upgraded our ASA to 9.1(2) and have been having what seem to be NAT problems with some services ever since. These problems manifest themselves with return traffic. For example, network time sync (NTP, port 123) works fine from the ASA, but hosts on the inside network cannot access external NTP servers (ntpq -pe shows all servers stuck in .INIT. status), creating problems with drifting clocks. Services like XBox Live also do not work; the XBox device can contact the internet, but return traffic from the service never gets back to the device.
For NTP specifically, I've tried allowing NTP 123 through the firewall, but it doesn't help. Conceptually, this should not be required since an inside host is initiating the connection and the NAT rules "should" allow the return packets. To further muddy the waters around NTP, a Linux VM CAN get NTP if it's network adapter is in NAT mode (so it's NAT'ing through the host workstation, then through the Cisco) but CAN NOT get NTP if the adapter is running in bridged mode (so the VM is talking directly to the ASA as if it were just another machine on the inside network).
I've stripped down the ASA config to the basics level, but still can't get this resolved. The main symptom of the problem is that if I disable the access-list rules around ICMP, I'll see lots of ICMP warnings in the ASA logs, which seems to indicate that there are traffic problems communiating with the inside hosts. I've narrowed the problem down to the ASA since replacing the device with a simple Netgear consumer-grade "firewall" lets all this traffic flow just fine.
    Network is extremely basic:

    Hi,
    Configuration seems fine.
With regards to the ICMP, you could also add this
    class inspection_default
      inspect icmp error
I would probably start by trying out some other software level on the ASA
Maybe some 8.4(x) software or 9.0(x) software. See if it some bug perhaps.
One option is ofcourse to capture traffic directly on the ASA or on the hosts behind the ASA. And go through the information with Wireshark.

  • How can I route internet traffic over IPSec point to point?

I have a remote site that connects by IPSEC with the end points on a router and ASA. The connection is working fine and the remote site can access my other networks at the main headquarters. The problem is, currently this remote site is accessing the internet via the same link that is supposed to VPN everything back to headquarters. I need to figure out how to VPN their internet traffic to my main headquarters. There's an IPrism behind the firewall to filter web access so it seems like I need to point the remote sites default gateway to my routing device that's behind my Iprism?
Also, currently the outside interface on the remote site's router does not have an ACL applied, can someone suggest what that ACl should look like? Thank you for your help! Here is a sample configuration of the remote site's router:

    access-list 100 permit ip 10.1.0.0 0.0.255.255 10.3.0.0 0.0.255.255
    and other various headquarter networks...

Hi Mark, you can modify your crypto acl to permit any any on your remote site which will make all traffic goes through the tunnel. Then on ASA you need to do hairpinning on the outside interface. This will make users on remote site to access internet via HQ. But if you do it this way the internet traffic goes straight to internet without having them filtered by your iPrism.
What I am not sure about is if there is a way to do it if you want those traffics to be filtered by the iPrism before going out to internet.

  • Mountain Lion Server VPN unable to route internet traffic

Hi! I have set up a VPN server on my home network specifically so that I could connect via a VPN client remotely and tunnel all internet traffic through my home network (It is a long story but I need to be able to access services that are specific to my home IP . . . ) I have been tearing my hair out trying to get it work but can not. The VPN connection happens OK and I can set up the remote client to send all traffic via VPN but any internet traffic just times out . . . In other words I can not get the server to share my home network via the VPN connection.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to answer.
As I am sure you have guessed I don't have much experience or knowledge with this. So I will try to clarify what I am trying to do.
I do not need a VPN server for the conventional reasons of being able to access a private network (i.e my home network) remotely, although this is a nice additional benefit. I need the VPN server so that I can log in remotely (when I am using my mobile broadband or when I am overseas for example) and make it look like the machine I am using is on my home network.
The reason for this is that I have access to web services that are IP specific. That is I can ONLY log in if I am logging in from my registered home IP (which is static for this exact reason).
I have been told on similar support sites that if I route ALL traffic through the VPN, then when I use my browser on the remote machine all web traffic will go through the VPN as well and it will look like the traffic is coming from the subnet of my home IP.
I guess in other words I am trying to use my VPN as an "anonymous" proxy (anonymous in the sense that although the traffic is coming form somewhere else, it still looks like it is coming from my home IP).
I know this will cripple the speed due to the narrow upstream bandwidth but I am willing to pay this price.
    Now as for your questions:
I have the server set up on a machine on my home subnet and I have enabled VPN port forwarding on the ADSL router.
I know the connection happens as when I connect the VPN either from my iPhone using 4G or my laptop using my mobile broadband I get the "connecting . . . authenticating . . . connected" messages and when I check in properties it shows it to be connected to my home IP as VPN server and has an IP address that looks like it is on my home subnet.
By internet traffic timing out I meant web traffic.
As I mentioned above, I need all web traffic to go through the VPN. So indeed not ALL traffic but definitely ALL web traffic. The only way I could find to do this is to enable the "Send all traffic" option.
Now I guess the obvious question is why am I not using a proxy. I have tried (and spent ages setting up Squid) but could never get it to "hide" the true origin of the traffic completely.
Now having written all this, I reinstalled mountain lion and server yesterday (out of sheer frustration rather than anything else) and it seems to work this morning. So if I log in via VPN on my mobile or laptop and use an IP checker on the web it comes up with my home IP : ))
The only thing I have now noticed is that if the VPN server stops working (which seems to be as soon as the computer I run it on goes to sleep) web traffic reverts to using the normal channels which is potentially problematic for me.
So my questions now are -
Any ideas what I was doing wrong in the first place?
Any suggestions on how I could set this up better?
Any way to set up the remote device so that it only allows web traffic via VPN (so that if the VPN connection drops, it is unable to use it's own internet connection for continuing web traffic)?
Thanks for any suggestions : )
    Cheers

    Airport Internet Sharing Problem
    My setup is:
Cable Modem -> Mac Mini --> PC Laptop
... with the connection between the mac mini and the PC laptop being the built-in mac mini airport using internet sharing.
Hi, I've been trying to set up Airport internet sharing with the mini, to no avail. It works off & on, but invariably the internet connections drop after about 10 minutes. The only way to get it started again, is to go into internet sharing, turn off internet sharing, then turn it on again. It will work for another 10 minutes or so (slow) after gong back to the PC laptop and reconnecting, then it chokes again.
I've tried the connection both with & without WEP, same behavior. I read somewhere that OS X only plays well with using Channel 1, so I tried that. No luck. Tried with and without Interference Robustness, no luck.
Tried with WEP on and using 40 bit hex keys using a "$" prepend in the mac as suggested on this web page:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030803030354585
Same behavior, works for 10 minutes, then it chokes again.
Tried with & without the firewall.
Yes, personal web sharing is on.
The PC laptop works fine with any number of other wireless routers out & about town, at my girlfriend's house, so forth.
Any chance I have a bum mac mini wireless card or antennae or something? The reception strength on the PC laptop is good.
Just don't know what to make of it. So stupid, it seems like something pretty basic that ought to work.
Yeah yeah tell me to get a wireless router, but I'm not going to do that, that's one major reason I bought the mini in the first place and it would be nice if it worked as advertised.
    Any other suggestions?

    Works better now...
this is me again. A week ago or so, I noticed there was an automatic update to the wireless on the mac mini.
Since then the performance is much improved. My PC laptop connection to the mac mini no longer drops spontaneously.
Much improved! Thank you very much!
Yes, on occasion, when I leave and then come back to use the wireless, the laptop will not reconnect after multiple attempts; I have to turn of internet sharing and flick it back on again, but then it works all evening fore hours and hours straight with no problems.
    Thanks Apple! It's usable now!
