  • Office 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2) installation failing with error code 0x80070643 and B56

I've been trying to install Office 2010 service pack 2 (32 bit) multiple ways without success. I've tried getting it directly from Microsoft Update, downloading the full file from Microsoft and installing it, using WSUS to deploy to clients, and I've tried
using LANDesk to deploy it. All methods are failing.
I need a solution that doesn't involve touching each PC manually, as I have a feeling this error is going to occur on several hundred PC's in my organization. So far on a group of 15-20 test PC's, every one has failed. We have not had problems with any other
    Microsoft Updates before this one.
When I try Microsoft Update, I receive the following error:
Code B56  Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I too have been unable to install the Office 2010 SP2 update on either a Win7 or a Win 8 system.  Researching the errors I got led me to discover the following:
    1. Many people are encountering errors during the SP2 installation. Some were able to get around it by downloading the self-installing package and bypassing Windows Update.  Some were able to get it installed by first doing a Repair on Office 210 itself
first, and then installing SP2.  But many others have not been able to install it at all.
    2. Apparently a common and insurmountable issue that prevents SP2 from installing is the lack of the MSOCACHE directory.  This directory normally gets installed on a machine during the original install of Office, and contains all the install files used
during the installation.  Apparently the idea behind creating MSOCACHE was to allow subsequent updates without requiring the user to have the original source CD available.
The problem is that if MSOCACHE is deleted, which is an option many people choose, you can then no longer do any updates to Office.
I am one of those people.
I found a posting that described a way to recreate MSOCACHE from the source CD.  I did that, and the SP2 update actually got farther - it started to install stuff but then stopped and asked for a particular file.  I found the file on the CD and
pointed the installer to it, but it said the file was not found and quit.  So my install still failed.
The last response I got at the Microsoft Answers site was to wait until SP2 is debugged.  It's not clear to me this will ever happen, but we'll see.

  • Cannot reinstall WSUS 3.0 sp2 fails at configuring database

    all -
a few weeks ago the WSUS stopped working on a ts server.  according to lawrence garvin it cannot be installed on a ts server.  now i'm trying to install it back onto the sbs 2008 server.  it won't install.  when it gets to the configuring
the db, it throws an error.  when i open the console i cannot connect to the server.  apparently, this is very common, but all the responses have been tried and still no success.
here's the log.  it's now not installing the db.

  • Installation of Adobe Premiere Elements 12 always fails

During the installation of my Adobe Premiere Elements 12, I always receive an error message (during the processing of linked components) which says:" During the installation an error has occured."
I have purchased Adobe Premiere Elements online and use the appropriate key provided by the retailer.
My Adobe Premiere Elements 10 works fine though but I would rather like to get my new program going.
I have tried all Adobe error correction proposels already but unfortunately in vain.
    Any suggestions how to proceed?

Thanks for your fast reply. I have already solved the problem and everything works fine.

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 - synchronization with Microsoft Update failed

    Hi!
The new installed WSUS Server (W2K8 R2 Std. x64 - full patched, SQL 2008 R2 on remote host) with KB2720211 update.
If I try sync WSUS Server with Microsoft Update than sync failed with error

WSUS is configured for using ssl.
    Any idea?

    Hi,
It is the common issue that may occur when KB2720211 is installed.
WSUS server stops synchronizing with Microsoft Update.
Workaround: remove WSUS , leaving the database on the uninstall.
When removing WSUS , the first screen after asking to uninstall will be what are the items you want to remove with the uninstall. Leave all options UNCHECKED.
Proceed with uninstalling. After finishing, install WSUS again.
Add the role again in Server manager (Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2) or download WSUS 3 SP2 from the following location:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5216
Start the install and choose the options to connect to the database server or Windows Internal database. As in the example, I am connecting to my Windows Internal Database.
Then choose “use existing database” and proceed with the install.

  • Initial content installation always fails

I have mountain lion 10.8.5 and recently updated safari to 6.1. After that, I bought/installed Logic Pro X. The initial software install went through fine, and then when I open the program for the first time, it downloads 2 GB of initial content. After the download, I am prompted for teh admin password, and the installation continues, but always fails with "the content download could not be completed". I have tried this several times over the past few days, same result every time.
Has anyone seen this issue, and is there a solution?

Yes.. there are several possible reasons for this..
    The common ones are;
Your System disk has a permissions/disk error on it.. try repairing permissions and also use the disk utility to check and repair your system disk if needed..
Make sure your Mac does not go to sleep during the process... Change the settings in System Preferences/Energy Saving to prevent this from happening, temporarily...
Boot your Mac up in Safe Mode.... and try again.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Finally you will find a thread here which contains lots of useful info on resolving this issue... (Including some of the above)
If none of these fixes things for you then you may have to contact Apple directly and ask them to help you troubleshoot.. Remember, when you purchased Logic Pro X you got 90 days of free Applecare support for LPX so make use of it if needed
    http://www.apple.com/contact/
    Additional suggestion/possibiity
This is not exactly common but I have come across it more often than one would think these days... and it is one that can often be overlooked...
Your ISP doesn't allow you to download a single file larger than a certain size... Typically the Max File Size Limit is set to 2GB or in a few cases less... which can then result in the issue you are having...  Call your ISP to confirm/check or find a single, larger than say 2.5GB, file on the net somewhere that you can download and test..

  • Windows Update Error 80080005 Windows 7 Client with WSUS 3.0 SP2 server

Hello everyone, I've looked around at other threads related to my issue, and I can't seem to find a correct answer.
I have a computer lab that I've recently installed a Windows 7 Enterprise image onto 35 Dell Optiplex computers (most are 380's, a few older 360's).
I created the image using MDT2010 and used one of the 380's as a reference.
All has been well for about a month or two but recently 6 computers are giving me Windows Update errors with the error code of 80080005.
I have a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server running, and all of my other computers seem to be getting their updates just fine.  WSUS has the problematic computers in it's database, but it shows that they haven't checked in for "x" days.
I have Avast 4.8 Professional installed, I have OpenDNS configured to block bad websites, ____, etc. and I also use an Untangle server to prevent access to bad websites.  I've ran a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on the affected computers, as well
as Windows Defender scan, and Windows Live OneCare scans, and all have found no malicious software.
I have also tried resetting the Windows update service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 as well as a script that supposedly does the same thing, but also resets all previous
update events, but I can't find the script source right now (I had ran it last week, and it didn't work).
I'm currently running a SFC /Scannow on one of the computers, and now it has finished.  It gives the error: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.  I'll have to google that next.
The last windows update that ran on the computer that I'm working on now was installed on 11-18-2010 and was a Windows Defender Update (KB915597 Def: 1.93.1985.0)
Previous to that was 11/9/2010 2 updates: KB977165 and KB981852.
I guess I'll have to look at all of the other machines to see if they have the same updates installed.
Anyway, has anyone else had this problem?  I've seen vista home editions, and RC's but no real Windows 7 Pro+ RTM versions in business environments where updates were controlled by WSUS.
Thanks for any help that you can provide!
By the way, I only work at this location once a week (tuesdays, well thursdays too, but I'm next door to this building, but I have remote access), so bare with me on trying to fix things.

Ok, for the sake of completeness, I have completed the instructions given by Miya Yao.
After stopping the Windows Update Service (from an Admin Command prompt window), renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder to SDold, then starting the update service again, I still receive the same error when checking for updates.
The windows update log shows this (starting from about 4am) and I just reset the service at about 9:10, which you can see in the log.

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 will not run after installing update 2720211

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211
The update was installed and server rebooted.  Now the WSUS console on Server 2008 SP2 will not run.  "Error: Connection Error.  An error occurred trying to connect to WSUS server."
The update service and IIS are both running.
When checking for updates from clients, they  show a message saying their update software needs to be upgraded, but they fail updating.
I was going to uninstall the update, but there is no option to uninstall the update from the WSUS server.
What are options to fix this?

This page helped alot. Let me recap for others on the interwebs.
    Cause:
    - Applied KB2720211 to a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server thats running on Windows 2008 64 bit server with local SQL db.
    What happened:
    - I could no longer sync my WSUS server with the interwebs.
    - clients could still connect to WSUS and I could still open the WSUS console.
    - Uninstalled WSUS, left DB and downloads and reinstalled WSUS in attempt to fix broken syncing.
    - Clients could now no longer sync with WSUS server. (They got Windows Update error code 800B0001).
    Solution:
    - Googled, found this page.
    - Followed just these last few steps that Chucker2 posted.
Extract necessary files from 2720211 installer
Download the KB2720211 installer for your architecture from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211)
Extract WUSSetup.msp from the installer by running the installer with the /extract parameter (example: "WSUS-KB2720211-x64.exe /extract")
    With 7-zip, open WUSSetup.msp and extract "PCW_CAB_SUS".
With 7-zip, open "PCW_CAB_SUS" and extract "DbCert", "DbCertDll", and "DbCertSql".
Rename those files to "WSUSSignDb.cer", "WSUSSignDb.dll", and "WSUSSignDb.sql", respectively.
On your WSUS server, navigate to "C:\Windows\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\SchemaSig" and copy the extracted "WSUSSignDb.cer" and "WSUSSignDb.dll" to it. Make a backup copy of the two existing versions, just in case.
On your WSUS server, navigate to "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Database" and copy the extracted "WSUSSignDb.sql" to it. Make a backup copy of any existing versions of the file.
    Reinstalled 2720211
PROBLEM FIXED AND CLIENTS COULD ALL SYNCH AGAIN.
    Thanks Chucker 2.
ps. Susan Bradley stop polluting every WSUS post on the interwebs with your constant links to WSUS KB2720211 : Common issues
encountered and how to fix them
this is the best solution. after reboot the problem is solved .

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 Install - Can't connect to Server.

I have a server with Windows Server 2008SP2 Standard, IIS7, which was rebuilt to replace the crashed W2003 system.  The original system was running the WSUS 3.0 role and IIS for an existing organizational website.  I was able
to migrate the website and now have installed WSUS 3.0 SP2 and picked “use default site” during the installation.  However, when running WSUS, I cannot “connect to server”.
As far as I could tell, on the old system both the organizational website and WSUS sites were running on port 80 (In fact, I had access to a .WIM copy of the old system so can mount it to look at the old IIS6 configuration, and I had a
    MSbackup that reconstituted WSUS\UpdateServicesDbFiles\ SUS.mdf and SUSDB_lob.ldf).
Can in fact both WSUS and the other website share port 80?  I see in IIS7 manager that /Selfupdate and /Content are listed in the Vdir section.  Is it merely that I have to configure something further in IIS to allow this?
I see no evidence of another web port listed for WSUS in our firewall VLAN exceptions.
Also, would using the backed up SUS.mdf from the old WSUS instance be worth trying to use with the new instance of WSUS 3.0 SP@?
    Tnx…

Why are you looking for issues where they don't exist?  I suppose since I don't know why there is a problem, I'm looking for where the problem may lie after exhausting verification of all other proper methods listed in the MS technet
directions to prep for the WSUS 3 install, the install itself and the post install configuration, and the diagnostics information.  So my last most thorough uninstall/re-install try produced the same problem I have been getting each time.  They are
listed below.  It is not a firewall issue as traffic for port 80 is already allowed b/c of the existing organizational website.  Can I narrow this down and infer from the error messages below that they seem to indicate an IIS7 issue?

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 on Server 2k8 R2 getting Error 364 and 10032

This is a FRESH installation of Server 2008 R2, installed with SP1 (no updates applied from Windows Update - I want this to happen via WSUS)
WSUS 3.0 SP2 FRESH installation from standalone installer.
Installed KB2720211 to correct the issue of clients being unable to communicate with WSUS server.
WSUS installs fine, synchronizes fine, but a number of updates showing "The Microsoft Software License Terms for this update failed to download"
Many other updates report the download failed with REASON: HTTP 404 The requested URL does not exist on the server.
Throughout the last 2 days of researching and investigating these particular errors, I have performed the following steps:
Verify correct permissions for the drive and folders - no change
    wsusutil reset - no change
wsusutil checkhealth - Reports WSUS working correctly
Uninstalled and reinstalled WSUS 3.0 in full
Removed server from any and all firewall and ISA devices, turned off the internal Windows Firewall completely - no change
Reinstalled Server 2008R2 again from scratch, installed WSUS again from scratch - no change
WSUS and Server 2008R2 configurations are identical to a previous installation that was working perfectly, and is NOT using a proxy.

In my research on this issue I have encountered a number of posts mentioning this, although none of them specified v3.2.
Given that the patch only applies to WSUS v3.2, to do so would be notably redundant. :-)
Is the KB2734608 applicable to WSUS 3.0 as well?
You seem to be confused by nomenclature.
    "WSUS 3.0" == WSUS v3 RTM (released Spring 2007)
    "WSUS 3.1" == WSUS v3 SP1 (released Summer 2008)
    "WSUS 3.2" == WSUS v3 SP2 (released October 2009)
Nonetheless, the patch only applies to WSUS v3 with Service Pack 2, aka WSUS v3.2.
I am hesitant to say that maybe an upgrade to 3.2 may fix the issue
Since you can only install WSUS v3.2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server, this is really a non-issue.
I added the WSUS role within the server manager rather than from the standalone installer.
This was probably a key differentiator. I'm curious why you used the standalone installer to begin with.
I should mention, during the server installation, I also did a full factory reset on the router, and reconfigured it accordingly.
I'm still inclined to believe this had the most significant impact on your download failures.

Yea, in looking around further I figured out that the 3.2 was a reference to 3.0 SP2. I went ahead and added that patch and lost the ability to synchronize period. At that point I just wiped everything again and am back up and running.
I used the standalone installer as the server role had originally failed and was unusable in the original installation. I stayed with the standalone installer as I had thought it may have been updated from the version included in the 2k8 R2. I now know otherwise.
I was still able to use the wizard to start with, which allowed the server manager to add the necessary required roles and services, but would ultimately fail in installing the WSUS role. This time it all worked like a charm, so I went with it.
As for the router, it may have been the culprit, although prior to the initial server reformat, the previous WSUS installation was working perfectly, about an hour prior to the completion of the the format and the installation and configuration of the WSUS
    server.
Either way, thanks for the help and the clarifications on some of the items for me.

  • System Image Utility always fails, why?

    Hi everyone,
on my clean and fresh install of 10.7.4 Server the System Image Utility always fails to create an image. I want to create a NetInstall image and have put the OS X Lion Installer in /Applications. I can select it in SIU and choose to create a NetInstall image. It asks for the admin pw and always presents an error at the very end: Image creation failed. An unknown error has occured.
If I select to create a NetBoot image instead it fails directly after clicking on the Create button with this slightly different message: Image creation failed. An error has occured. At least it’s no unknown error…
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have succesfully created NetInstall images with 10.6 Server and 10.8 Server, but 10.7 Server somehow won’t play nice.
    Thanks
    Björn

    Hi Brian,
I first deleted the Installer and redownloaded it from the App Store, just to make sure there was no problem with it. Even though I now have the 10.7.4 Installer (had 10.7.0 before) nothing has changed. I then went on to set the log level as suggested. I now get different errors based on the chosen log level.
    Log level set to debug:
    Image creation failed.
*** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
    Log level set to verbose:
    Image creation failed.
    An unknown error has occurred.
I did not see anything helpful in the logs unfortunately. The only noticeable thing mentioned was: Failed to create image from installer media.
Any additional ideas? I will attach both logs here, just in case.

  • Hi, I've been trying for days to download Windows support software via Bootcamp assistant, but it always failed with message 'Can't install Windows Support Software because it is not currently available from the Software update server.' Any advice welcome

    Hi,
I've been trying for days to download Windows support software via Bootcamp assistant but it always fails with message 'Can't install windows software because it is not currently available from the software update server.'
Anyone else had problems or success with this?
    Thanks in advance.

Your issue is completely different. You are running Snow Leopard. There is no download for Windows Support software for Snow Leopard, hence the error you see. Snow Leopard Windows Support software is on the Snow Leopard installation disk.
You need the Snow Leopard installation disk or a replacement for it.

  • SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 installation hangs during extract phase

    Greetings!
I am having an issue with trying to silent install SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 (x86).
I have a proprietary installation framework, which is calling the SQL Server Express installer.
The SQL Server Express installer starts extracting files to c:\{some guid}. The folder reaches about 11 mb in size, and then nothing further happens. No activity on the machine, CPU or disk - I have waited up to 15 minutes to verify this. On the normal installation,
the size of this folder is ~650 mb.
Here are the things I've also tested:
    - I'm experiencing these symptoms on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (haven't tested other platforms)
    - If I launch exactly the same command from the command prompt, the installation goes through as normal
    - If I replace the SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 with SQL Server Express 2012 SP1, and install via our installation framework, the installation goes through as normal
    - I have checked and double-checked that our installation framework is started with administrative privileges.
    - From my previous search attempts, I have seen issues where the installer would hang or fail when launched from inside an msi, which would result in a log in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\<something something>. These are not the symptoms
I am experiencing. The C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\ folder is not even created!
Any suggestions, or places I can look to figure out why it's not proceeding? For now, I have worked around the issue by including SP1 instead of SP2, but ideally I'd like to base my solution on the most recent service pack.

    Hello Alberto!
The installation framework does check for this. I'm also certain that these prerequisites are fulfilled.
When the SQL Server process hangs, I can kill the process, copy/paste the exact command that was executed from the installation framework's log files, and execute that command in a command prompt - and then the installation runs as expected.
The installation framework installs SQL Server Express correctly if I use the 2008 R2 SP1 express or the 2012 SP1 Express installer. It's just the SP2 installer that is giving me problems.
The only difference I can think of is that the installation framework is a 32-bit process, which calls the SQL Server installer, while the command prompt is a 64-bit application. I am installing the SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe
from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43351, so it should be compatible with my 32 bit environment -
"SQLEXPR_x86 is the same product but supports installation onto both 32-bit and 64-bit (WoW) operating systems"
    Tomorrow, I will try:
    - Installing on Windows 7 32-bit
    - Trying to launch the SQL Server installer from a powershell (x86) prompt, to emulate a 32-bit environment on a 64-bit machine

  • Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922

    Hi folks,
I have a HP Elitebook Folio 9470p.  It came with Windows 8, and I installed it on my corporate domain.  I was trying to do some Windows updates so  I could upgrade it to Windows 8.1, but it fails installing the updates, whether or not I try
to install them one at a time or all of them.  It has about 18 updates it needs from security updates to a .net framework update.  I run Symantec EP, and disabled it, checked for driver updates for things like display and networking and they are
    all up to date.
I'm at a loss as to what to do.  It gives this error in the event log for each file, Event ID 20.
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2862152).
This is the example for KB2862152, but it gives the same error for every one.  I've tried to auto fix for Windows update issues and it fixed a couple of the issues, but not all of them, and provides no other help.
I also deleted folders and files from the SoftwareDistribution folder as well, to no avail.  Any ideas what I can do to get whatever updates it needs, so I can fully patch it, and upgrade it to Win 8.1?
    Thanks for any help!

Hi MM. Mr Kywildcat and Vegan Fan,
GOOD NEW ! At this time, my issue is solved. The only black side is "how ?" : I hope that we will get a response some day ; however, and for in information  pnly - hoping this could help someone - I resume some actions which allowed this the happy end
    1) about installing 8.1 : I wanted to be sure that gain/pain ratio was positive, and that upgrading from a (potentially) damaged system would'nt produce something looking like a new Win 8.1, but difficult to maintain and keeping some negative potentialities.
    2) I was influenced by the fact that this
0x800F0922  error acted as "a serial killerror", whose root cause could be a unique update error at reboot time concerning several (>20) packages, so I decided to test some manual upgrades.
    3)   Manual update (i.e. manual download and maunching of .msu packages) of the 2 following packages
(whose update previously failed on a Windows Update) was successful : .NET Framework version 3.5 for  x64 (KB2898866) and Camera Codec Pack Windows 8 for x64 (KB2899190)
    4) So I decided to try Windows Update on a selection of packages, first : those concerning .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.5 (that is: KB2898866, 2901120, 2898865) --> Successful !
    5) finally, I selected almost all other packages, with some exceptions wich I (think to) have no need for : KB2871690, 2904659, 2843630. To be complete, here is the list of pakages updated one time at all :
    KB 2892074, 2893294, 2893984, 2909210, 2912390, 2916036, 2889784,2903938, 2911101, 2913152, 2917499
    --> always succesful.
I am not a specialist, but I uess that this 0x800F0922 error hides another problem which is globally "H-RESULTED"
to all updates pending in one update operation with reboot. This could be assumed from this CBS.log exterped from my last wrong attempts, where root cause seems not to be
    0x800f0922, but 0x80004003 :
2014-02-15 21:29:13, Info                  CBS    Could not get active session for current session file logging [HRESULT = 0x80004003 - E_POINTER]
2014-02-15 21:29:13, Info                  CBS    Not able to add pending.xml.bad to Windows Error Report. [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]
2014-02-15 21:29:18, Error  CBS    Startup: Failed to process advanced operation queue, startupPhase: 0.  A rollback transaction will be created. [HRESULT = 0x800f0922 - CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED]
Anyway, thanks to you who spent some of your time to describe issues and search/ suggest solutions ; I will upgrade my system to 8.1 anyway, some of this day, when I am sure that my configuration does not hides some other problem. I thing that potential
issue remains until maybe a new KB corrects it, wrong :-) ?
And I hope that you - Mr Kywildcat - can upgrade your system on "current levels" trying similar attempts.

  • How to update from WSUS 3.2 SP2 running on Windows 2008 R2 to WSUS 4.0

Hello, with WSUS 4.0 already in the market, is it adviseable to update from WSUS 3.2 SP2? I am looking at a bare installation of WSUS 4.0 in Server 2012 R2, from basic looks I have not seen yet anything different. We have 12 WSUS servers
servicing a wide area, and before going ahead with any update of this infrasturture I would like to know of anyone has gone this upgrade path yet? Thanks
    Shahidul

is it adviseable to update from WSUS 3.2 SP2?
I don't think it's critical to upgrade to WSUS v6 at this time, unless your WSUS v3.2 server is still running on a 32-bit system (or any form of WS2003). If you're running WSUS v3.2 on WS2008/WS2008R2 (x64), then those platforms will continue to be supported
until 2020, so there's no immediate need. However, if you're contemplating a major migration of all systems to Win8/WS2012 environments, then it makes sense to migrate the WSUS server also. If you expect to have Win7/WS2008R2 systems online for the foreseeable
future, then WSUS v3.2 x64 will continue to meet your needs.
I am looking at a bare installation of WSUS 4.0 in Server 2012 R2, from basic looks I have not seen yet anything different.
The most notable difference is a much richer PowerShell interface, so if you're inclined to use PowerShell to manage WSUS, that would be an advantage.
A notable disadvantage is that you can only partially manage a WSUS v6 system from a Windows 7 workstation: Local publishing requires that activity to be performed from the same generation of system. For example, WSUS v6.3 can only be published to from a
WS2012R2 or Win8.1 system; WSUS v6.2 can only be published to from a WS2012 or Win8.0 system. This is due to internal dependencies on the BUILD number of the WSUS API.
I suspect the dependency was a manifestation of protecting WSUS v2 and WSUS v3 systems back in 2007 (local publishing was first introduced in WSUS v3.0), but with SIX possible builds of WSUS now available, it's becoming a major PITA!
