WUSA TV Report on iPods in Virginia Education

An elementary school I work with, and have mentioned here before (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=779585#779585), Jamestown Elementary in Arlington County, Virginia, was featured in a fascinating report on WUSA TV news in Washington DC yesterday.
Apparently, a high school in nearby Fairfax County has banned the use of iPods in classrooms, and to contrast that part of the report, the other portion centers on how iPods and podcasting have taken off at Jamestown.
You may notice the various Macs used at Jamestown to produce the podcasts
The report also mentions at the end of the report how our kids (fifth graders) are working on podcasts for the Smithsonian Institution.
The TV station's web page features the report here:
http://wusa9.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=47245
Also, it can be downloaded in iTunes at:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=86419097&s=1434 41&i=3071876
Podcasting is fast becoming an important way to motivate students, and the potential is only barely been seen yet.

how so i report my ipod stolen without having the serial number?

The easiest way to find your serial number is this Open Itunes...click help... run diagnostics.....(tick or untick as necessary) so that you just have ticked the last two, device connectivity and device sync. run these tests. it will say no ipod/ipad found but will give results of test....scroll down to bottom of results... here you will find the serial number of your last attached devices.

    Hello WGT52,
It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

How do I report my ipod touch stolen?

    lost
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Reporting Stolen iPods

Is there anyplace in the apple system to report stolen iPods (or any other items for that matter). I doubt there is, but I thought I'd give it a shot. My step-son's iPod Shuffle was stolen, but I have the serial number recorded. I'm hoping that apple has a place to report such things, so that if someone ELSE tries to register the same serial number, Apple would know that it's stolen merchandise.
Of course, if the thief has any brains whatsoever, they wouldn't try to register it in the first place, KNOWING it's stolen, but you never know...

Apple have no procedure to report, track, trace or block your iPod from use, the best thing you can do is inform your local police. If you have the serial number make sure that you have it quoted in the report. If your iPod was registered with Apple when you first got it, that will assist the Police in returning it to you should it ever be recovered: How to report lost or stolen Apple product?

  • HT1391 how do you report an ipod touch stolen with serial number.

I have the serial number of my ipod touch.  How do I report it stolen to apple?

You don't. Report it to the police, and your insurer if it would be covered.

  • How do you report an ipod touch stolen?

My ipod touch was stolen by a maid at a hotel i stayed at. Is there a way to report it stolen to Apple without having to look on the actual device for the serial number? I mean, there has to be another way to report it because those who need to report it stolen no longer have access to the serial number!

You don't. Report it to the police, and your insurer if it would be covered.

  • Can you report your iPod lost/stolen to Apple?

I believe someone has stolen my iPod Touch (5th gen.). I have it regestered with Apple...What can I do to find it/get it back? Is there a number I can call? Also, I've read that you can locate it somehow through iCloud. How is that done? All help is appreciated

No. Apple does not look for lost or stolen devices. Call your local police.
What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:
This link, Re: Help! I misplaced / lost my iPhone 5 today morning in delta Chelsea hotel downtown an I am not able to track it. Please help!, has some good advice regarding your options when your iDevice is lost or stolen.

  • How to report my IPOD stolen?

My IPOD was stolen. i have the box and the serial number and have filed a police report. My cousin told me theres a way to report it to ITUNES so that if its hooked up to another computer, it can be found. Help!!??

No, there isn't, sorry. If it's an iPod Touch, and you had activated Find My iPod, you could possibly locate it, but Apple can't do it for you. And a Classic model doesn't have any such feature.

  • I do i report my ipod stolen

i was in school and i put it somewhere and now i cant find it

    lost/stolen
No app on the iPod is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or conbtinue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    iCloud: Erase your device
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police and school
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

  • HT1459 How do I report my ipod stolen?

My ipod has been stolen. How can I report it stolen or have the software shut down?

Contact Law Enforcement... Apple is not in the business of caring and will not shut anything down for you.  It's not Apple being jerks... NO hardware manufacturer assists users with lost/stolen devices.
