X11 - how do i stop the terminal opening each time I load X11 environment?

as the subject reads

In 10.5, you don't need to (nor should you) launch X11.app manually.
Instead, it is now designed to use the system auto-launching infrastructure to do this for you on demand.
So, for example, if you log in but do nothing to start X11, and then from Terminal.app type
<pre>xeyes &</pre>
the xeyes program should start up, while starting up the X11 server. The idea is to make things as seamless and automated as possible. (I think it is a good idea, and is pretty close to how I have always used X11 in OS X, but for other people who use it differently, I guess it came as a bit of a surprise. Actually, a complete surprise, as there was no accompanying documentation released.)
The thing in /Applications/Utilities/X11.app in 10.5 is merely a wrapper to launch the xterm. I understood your question to be how do you keep it from launching automatically all the time. The above line will stop that from happening, but essentially renders the thing in /Applications/Utilities/X11.app useless. If you want the original behavior back, type in that second defaults line, and it will restore the original behavior, i.e.,
<pre>defaults write org.x.X11_launcher apptorun /usr/X11/bin/xterm</pre>

  • After a recent update, everytime I open Firefox, the Add-ons dialogue box opens on top of the home page. How can I stop it from opening each time?

The question contains all the information I can provide

Ok I found a solution that worked for me, I simply dragged the user.js and the user.js.BAK to the desktop, before that I had done the same with the prefs.js and prefs.js.BAK, but that didn't help, so it's apparently the user file that was an error with.
It was the link from cor-el that helped me on the way http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved It's at the bottom titled User.js file locks certain preferences. This article can also help https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Preferences%20are%20not%20saved
It have still not made a new user.js file, but everything runs fine, hope this can help others to.

  • How can I stop the "Cannot Open iTunes" dialog

How can I stop the "Cannot Open iTunes" dialog when more than one user is logged into the computer without switch to the user using and closing iTunes. Why doesn't the dialog AT LEAST have the option to 'Do not attempt to open iTunes for this User any more' instead of the lazy programmer OK button only. OR Even the Do not ask this again option.

Just adding to the last answer:
Sony Reader; free download from Sony intended to run with Sony eReaders but works quite happily without.

I prefer ADE1.7.2 to Sony Reader, and Calibre to either (for DRM-free books),
but Sony Reader certainly worth a try to see how you get on with it.

    Add image to iPhoto Library
From where.  I don't think you can keep it mininmized when importing because if it runs into a duplicate it will present a warning window for you to make a decision in. Therefore, it will always be open when importing.

  • How do I stop the Firefox home page from automatically loading. I have rest my homepage to where I want it. But the Firefox homepage still loads automatically

When I open Firefox, the homepage I set opens...as does the Mozillza Firefox home page which opens in a separate tab. It is an extra tab I DON'T want. How do Is stop it?

The instructions are clear and easy to understand, however, it doesn't always work.
I set my home page to www.google.com (only one tab opened up), clicked OK to save google as my home/start page.
I closed all browsers, started FF and it worked.
However, the next time I started FF it came back with the hooray, your ff is up to date.
I also set my home page to my internal work site URL, same problem.
    I'm using version 23.0
I also tried going to google, and dragging the icon at the beginning of the URL to my home page icon. Still doesn't work.

  • How do I stop the date changing every time I edit a photo?

I have recently scanned a number of photos from negatives, and assigned a date to them in the organiser.  If I subsequently go in and re-edit a photograph, the date reverts to the date of this modification and I lose the date I originally assigned.  I have tried unchecking the box Use Date File was Last Modified if no EXIF Date Found, but to no effect.  Curiously, this only happens to photos where the day of the month is unknown - so a photo I have dated 4/6/1972 remains unchanged, but a photo dated 6/1972 reverts to the date of the latest modification.  How do I get Elements to leave the date I have assigned to the photo?  Thanks.

    [Oops, hit send too early.]
    David,
This appears to be another instance of a known bug in the last several versions of PSE.  When you invoke the Editor or the Edit > Update Thumbnails command, PSE rereads the date/time from the file's metadata back into the catalog (who knows why it does that).  Normally, when you invoke Edit > Adjust Date And Time, PSE immeditely writes the date/time into the file's metadata; so when you then invoke the Editor, it doesn't matter that PSE rereads the date/time from the metadata back into the catalog.   But if the Edit > Adjust Date And Time command fails to write the date/time into the metadata for some reason, then when you invoke the Editor, PSE will overwrite the date/time in the catalog with the old date/time from the metadata -- precisely what you're observing.
There are several reasons why the Adjust Date And Time command can silently fail to write the date/time to the metadata:
    - PSE doesn't understand the file type or the file type doesn't support metadata (BMP, PDF, Quicktime, PNG).
    - The file is marked readonly.
    - A bug in PSE's metadata handling prevents it from writing the date/time.  PSE has many bugs in its metadata handling.
I'm guessing that it's the last reason that you're encountering.
Suggestion: Upload one of the problem photos to www.pixentral.com (free) and post the URL here.  I'll take a look at it and see if I can reproduce the problem in my PSE.

  • How do I stop itunes backing up each time I plug in my ipad?

Hope someone out there can help me.  I have upgraded to the new itunes and now everytime I plug my ipad in to sync it also automatically does a backup. I have read other discussions on here regarding this but unfortunately they haven't helped.  I don't have a box to tick to say no to a bcakup and if I go in to the settings and stop it from synching then that is defeating what I want to do.  I want it to sync each time I plug it in not do a backu which takes up to an hour just to add maybe 6 songs to a playlist.  It is very dissapointing what is happening with it.  Does the older version 10.7 have the option not to backup but just to sync??  It doesn't do it to my ipod..

It is not possible to turn off the auto backup and keep the auto sync. The option is both or neither.
iTunes is designed to backup the device prior to a syncs, the processes are not seperate.

  • Firefox 4.6 Beta cannot connect to the proxy server each time I load it.

In the advanced settings (Network) I have to manually set it to Auto Detect each time and and it works fine. However, each time I restart Firefox it automatically defaults to Manual Proxy Settings and does not work. It seems that Firefox does not save my change to Auto-Detect Proxy and each time defaults to Manual Proxy Settings when restarted.

Did you create a new profile for the 4.0 beta version?
Are you still using a Firefox 3.6.x version with that same profile?

  • How do I stop the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" from loading everytime I start Firefox? My home page is opening AND the (totally useless) 'start page'.

Just installed Firefox on my second Windows machine (running XP Home). Unlike my other installation, every time I start Firefox I get TWO tabs - my home page AND a "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" that contains only a Google search input. I don't need the useless start page, but haven't found anything that tells me how to stop it from loading.

Try This works good for those who aren't computer tech savvy like me
Type about:config in the address bar
Click I'll be careful, I promise if prompted
In the Filter input field type startup
    Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
Delete the text string and click OK
Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!
I just tried this myself and it totally worked for me Good Luck

  • How do I stop iphoto from opening every time I connect my iphone to my computer?

I don't really want to sync my iphone with my iphoto. Whenever I plug my phone into my computer, iphoto automatically opens and asks if I want to sync. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
    Thanks!

The RIGHT way is to copy photos from your phone to iPhoto and delete them from the Camera Roll. If you still want them on the iPhone add them back to the photo album app. The Camera Roll is a bad place to leave photos that are important, and a silly place to leave photos that are not. It is intended as temporary storage, jost like any digital camera.
iPhone will not open if the camera roll is empty.

  • When I import new home videos into my iTunes and edit the names it creates duplicate Library's on my Apple Tv. How can I stop this from happening each time I edit a name in iTunes home videos??

I am having an issue with duplicate Libraries showing up in my Home Sharing "Home Videos".  It happens when I import home videos into iTunes and change the names of the files. How do I avoid this from happening and delete the duplicate libraries?

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

  • How can I change the default url each time I open a new tab?

New tabs used to open up with the same home page I use when I open firefox but now all tabs open up with something different and I can't find where to change that.

New tabs in Firefox have always been a blank page by default, but there are many different add-ons that can change that action to a specific web page.
This is probably the simplest add0on to do that, but first you need to figure which add-0n changed it from a blank page and get rid of that add-on. <br />

  • How do I stop FunMoods from opening every time I open a new tab.

I tried changing the about:config line url:blank but that didn't work. Screw FunMoods.

Try to reset the funmoods prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
*Open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>funmoods</i> via the Search bar at the top of the about:config page.<br />
*Reset all <i>funmoods</i> related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

  • How do I stop LR from launching each time media is installed

Anytime I insert a CD/Dvd or Flash card or SD card, LR launches itself.   It takes a lot of key strokes to turn it back off.   I have PS, LR, Elements and other programs, that I might want to use.   I want to turn off LR and have it only open when I want to use it.

99jon gave you the correct answer. If you are using Windows, you can check the same by using another approach:
go to the AutoPlay settings (in Win 7, Start | Control Panel | AutoPlay).
find any item that is marked as "Import photos using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4".
then change them to "Ask me every time" or "Take no action".
