X201 Screen Replacement Issues

Hello,
I recently developed a black screen issue, where the screen would not light up due to backlight issue, and the lid close was not recognized.
When I sent it to repair, I got it back with a new screen, LG LP121WX3 TL A1.
The repair guy told some other control chip/fuse was also replaced.
However, even though the screen works fine, the lid close event is not recognized.
I found out that the hall sensor and the Magnet under the keyboard are missing.
Also, as soon as I install Intel HD graphics, the screen turns black/blank.
It boots up normally till the login screen, then a bright white frame, then black, then again a white flicker, and completely black again.
However, windows is running normally in the background.
My only solution now is to go into safe mode and run using Standard VGA driver. Since there is no HD graphics driver installed, no sleep function too.
I have tried 3 fresh installs, win8 win7 win8.1.
Fresh install on a brand new HDD, infinite number of different drivers, everything.
When I run ubuntu, all these issues are not there, sleep funtion etc works, though lid close is not recognised there too.
Can anyone please post a solution to this?
I noticed in the hardware manual that the FRUs are 42T0709 and 42T0715.
The FRU of the current screen is 42T0710.
But, on this same forum somewhere I read that the LP121WX3 is a valid replacement for this model.

  • MBP screen replacement issue

    Hello,
I just replaced my glossy screen on the MBP with Matte screen. Everything went fine except I have this issue now. I double checked every connection and they all seem fine. The boot up screen looks fine, so I know that the screen is not defective. I tried searching but I didn't find anything. From what I read so far, it should just be an simple direct swap.
    Anyidea?
    Thanks in advance for help.

As this is a fairly routine job there should be no difficulty getting the parts and the time to do it is reasonably quick. For cost contact the nearest Apple service centre. It's listed on their computers and will normally be a standard Apple rate.
I had a screen replaced under warranty in Africa in an earlier model and there it was only the supply which was slow.

  • G585 Screen Replacement Issue

Right odd one this - I'm after replaceming the screen on my G585. I took out the old one & pugged the new one in, I mounted in the frame & it was woking so I powered off the laptop and replaced the bezel. When I turned it on after replacing the bezel I get no picture anymore. Ive tried putting the old screen back in but that dosnt work now either. Iv resorted to using an external monitor so at least I know I SHOULD be getting an image on my laptop screen.
The old screeen was a LG LP156WH4 (TL)(N1) - I swapped it for a LP156WH4 (TL)(N2). Would that make any difference? As I said it was woking until I reattached the bezel???

  • X201 screen resolution issues

My x201 has a maximum screen resolution in the settings of 1280 x 800 but states that anything under 1280 x 960 may mean that some information is not displayed on the screen. I have this problem with a program that I am running. Any suggestions please.....

    you can change it.
even on a netbook you can change the resolution.
make sure you have the right drivers fot the GPU.
go to the site and grab it.
i run customs all the time but you will need full software support of the graphic chip so that means not just the display driver but it software as well.
go to intels site for that.
most pc makers dont include the software just the display driver.
same one as windows has built in.
once you have fiull surport you can change it easy even give it a boost, adjust certin things.
intel is not as complex as say AMD or nvid but it getting better.
there be a limit to what the latop own display can do dpi wise size wise so on and what you read well on it depends on options too alot have a finer pith disply.
again install the software package for that chipset.

  • DV7-7121nr Screen Replacement Issues

OK, this is my final attempt to get help on this. I have a broken screen on my DV7. It's the DV7-7121nr with beats. I have a replacement screen that I bought from HP on Amazon, but I cannot get the bezel off for the life of me. It's like, a 2 sided clip that seems to be impossible to get off.
Can anyone help out if you've done this or know how to? It's rather urgent..

Here is a link to a youtube video showing the teardown procedure for the screen:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXjIkD7IQOg
Once you have the top and two sides broken loose, You can use your fingers to break the bottom free. Gently pry from the top inside of that bottom side of the bezel. It should just pop right off. This particular model doesn't have any screws holding the bezel on. The hinge covers should not keep the bezel from coming off.

  • T43 screen replacement issue

    Hey,
Long story short, I tried to replace my thinkpad's XGA screen with a SXGA+ one. From what I've read about it seems to be compatible but when I try to power on my laptop it doesn't show anything. The screen is new so I doubt that there are anything broken inside it.
I checked multiple times if all of the plug were correctly attached, I even re-installed the old screen to test (and it works).
I was thinking of a bios upgrade, but I don't know which bios version to take, as I'm not sure of the exact serial number of my motherboard, because I changed it as well (it was marked as t40/p, t41/p, t42/p, t43/p compatible)
The motherboard is working fine, I use it since some months now.
Thanks in advance for your help!

did you replace the panel or the whole assembly? 14" or 15"? Both sizes need a different cable. 15" also needs a different inverter

  • Lenovo t420 screen replacement issues

    Hey,
My screen cracked a couple weeks ago and i decided to order this screen from amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/LENOVO-THINKPAD-LAPTOP-SUBSTITUTE-REPLACEMENT/dp/B004VUO2N6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8...
I followed a video online with directions on how to replace the screen. Im sure I installed it right but when I turned the laptop on only the backlight lit and nothing else. Ive heard that It may be a problem with the screen cable but im not too sure. Any help on how I would fix this would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are 3 parts involved (motherboard, screen, cable) and there is not much you can be sure of without some replacement parts to try. I will say that USUALLY, if screen damage causes motherboard damage, the motherboard fuse blows. Since your backlight comes on, it is not the fuse. I have found that if the backlight comes on, in most cases, the cable isn't plugged in straight, either on the motherboard connector or, more likely, behind the panel. If you don't attach the connector to the panel with new tape, it can pull out from one side or the other. Also, the cable connector behind the panel is fragile and easy to damage. Finally, your new panel might be defective. Cable not plugged in right or damaged is probably most likely.

  • HT5455 Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, then I get declined from screen replacement?

Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, and I get declined from screen replacement?
I have purchased this hardware in Budapest for approximately 3000 usd. I was a bit shocked to see screen ghosting after a few days of use. The problem was getting worse but because I am a design consultant working mainly on my Mac I couldnt take a week off to leave It at an Apple service station.
Last week I was surprised to receive the information from the local Apple repair shop in Germany that my retina MBP that I bought 13 months ago was declined from screen replacement by Apple.
Considering the price of the product I find It unacceptable that I need to work on a defective product and see shadows every time I leave an Illustrator or InDesign window open for a short period of time.
Is there any way to resolve this issue? I wouldnt like to pay another 800 dollars just to replace a component on my defective Apple product.

Contact Apple Support directly.  In Germany the Expresslane or this number
0800 6645 451 will allow you to speak directly to someone from Apple.    Explain your situation.   Mind you, AppleCare and issues with Apple products like this have to occur without any user accidents or user installed parts to ensure that Apple will cover you.  If there was a user accident or installed part, you may be turned down.  If you have the original Apple parts, and did the installation yourself, replace it with the original parts very carefully following the directions on http://www.ifixit.com/ unless you can afford an authorized service provider to do it for you.  Since we don't speak for Apple here, being end users like yourself, that's why I say "may", as I've seen Apple handle these things on a case by case basis.  So hopefully you don't have any obvious damage that looks like it is user caused.   Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro Freezing After Screen Replacement

I recently took my MBP in to get the screen replaced due to a screen separation issue. When I got it back it froze every now and then, but it kept continuing. Everytime I restart the computer after a freeze it will freeze up sooner and sooner. At first I thought it was a RAM issue since it particularly did it while watching videos, so I bought new RAM and it continued to freeze. Tested the new and the old RAM, but they were fine. I took it to the Genius Bar and the guy said it was a failing harddrive. Got a new harddrive upgraded to Lion and it is still freezing. I asked if something could have gone wrong when the screen was replaced and he assured me no and even if something had gone wrong they wouldn't cover it unless the actual screen was broken.
If I leave the computer off for a day it will take about 30 min before the 1st freeze, then after restart about 15 min, then 10 min, then 5 min until it will only log in then freeze.
Any guesses as to what could be causing the freezing and if it would be worth fixing as this MBP needs a new battery, a new drive (since the drive is on loan), and has the flickering screen issue?

    Screen Replaced Jan 8, 2012

Thanks for the reply. As an update, I took it into the Apple store again and it froze while they were trying to run the test. This time the guy said it was covered by the repair warrenty. After 2 weeks without a computer because something was wrong with the graphics cards they called me back and said they were just going to give me a late 2011 mid-range MBP. So I currently have a brand new MBP with no issues
Yeah... 3.5 years and they just release that fix for flickering screens. I hope it works for everyone. I know some people had some major issues with it.

  • Mac Pro Retina Screen Replacement Procedure

So I love my Mac Pro Retina but it has the ghosting issue, everything else is fine as far as I can tell with it, its had a few kernal panics but they have all been graphics related while Chrome was open, and only in Mac OSX, so I am assuming thats fine. I can play any game I want in Windows 7 with out trouble so thats a w/e.
I am past the 14 day mark for just turning it in for a new one, and I wouldn't want too anyway. So I was wondering how they handled pure screen replacements, if they do them there at the store, or if they have to ship it off. If anyone has any experience with this any info would be helpful.

I want to know what Apple has offered other people so I can go in and negotiate knowing what solutions they are offering. I have had Apple loose equipment for a period of time after being shiped of for repairs, so if they tell me its going to need to be shiped off, and someone here has had an instore replacement of the screen I would like to be able to point to that so I don't risk having my laptop lost in the ether again.
PS Apple actually handled it well by replacing the piece of equipment with the newest model, so the lost equipment ended well for me that time, but it was kind of a gaint pain in the butt.

  • IPad Glitch After Screen Replacement

I had my iPad screen replaced and just got it back today. It turns on okay and is useable... a little. It refuses to let me open certain apps.(ex. App Store) When i type, sometime the ipad wont let me press certain letters or links. I have tried turning the ipad off completely and have reset my settings. Nothing seems to work. I can't tell if my LCD has been damaged or not conected correctly. I use this iPad for school so i need help ASAP.

If you have Restored it both from your backup and as a new device and it still does not work then it is indeed a hardware issue. It could be a defective salvaged screen/digitizer or the logic board.

  • Bad wifi after screen replaced

Hi. I recently got the screen on my ipad 2 replaced at a local independent repair shop as it had been cracked for a while. Since then the wifi has been awful and disconnects if you're literally more than 4 foot from the router. I took it back to the shop and explained the problem and i'd read online how the antenna can sometimes get damaged while changing the screen, (i hope that's right?). They fobbed me off telling me I should contact my ISP about the wifi, (although as i have 4 other devices in the house with no wifi problems at all, and the wifi on my ipad was fine before taking it in for the screen replacment, is i'm pretty sure this isn't the problem), he also said I need to update my ipad to the latest iOS which will also fix any bugs, i did that but it made no different so he eventually agreed to change the antenna for me. I picked it back up today was told the problem has now been sorted, but I still have the same problem - the only place I can use the wifi is sat right next to the router. I'm reluctant to take it back to the shop again as he swears blind there is no problem, probably cos hes stood right next to his router!! Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem?

One thing to try before you take it back. Try to power cycle your router. Unplug it, count to ten, plug it back in and let it reboot.
You can also try to go into the settings and reset network settings, which will force you to reconnect and re-enter your wifi password and info.
If that doesn't sort it then it's more fuel to the fire that he did something when he replaced the screen. Unfortunately, unless the person you used was an authorized apple service provider, you may not have any options left with Apple. They generally wash their hands of any devices serviced by anyone that's not authorized.
When you take it back, try to replicate the issue. Make him walk to the other side of the store, or go outside. See if it replicates there.

  • Thick black line through iPad 1- will screen replacement work?

There is a 2 inch black line through the width of my iPad 1. iPad is out if warranty and apple genius told me the only fix would be to buy another one. Could I fix this issue through replacing the LCD screen? Any suggestions would help.

Might. Might not. Could be part of the backlight is bad. Could be the equivalent of the graphics card is bad.
Dunno how much your screen replacement is but you may want to weigh that cost against it not working and you paying and still not having a functioning device.

  • Massively overcharged screen replacement

Last week I broke my HP Slate 6's screen. The tablet at the moment is available in the Indian market for less than Rs. 9000 (142.306 US Dollars) where as  I have been asked to pay approximately Rs. 6500 (102.777 US Dollar) only for screen replacement. This shows how bad HP's after sales service are. Highly DEJECTED !
