X220 Windows Automatic Updates Keep Disabling

We have 2 new Thinkpad X220's, both running Win 7 Pro, and they both have this same problem.  We have Windows Update set to 'Install Updates Automatically'.  Every 30 minutes or so, that setting gets disabled to 'Never Check for Updates'.
I've run scans for malware and viruses but both systems appear to be clean.
Any help would really be appreciated.

If you don't think its a being caused by malware, try re-installing Windows update agent. (or) you can use the built in Diagnostics of Windows 7 to resolve your issue.
Go to Control Panel--> System and Security--> Troubleshoot common computer problems(Under Action center) -->Fix problem with Windows update.
The agent may figure out what went wrong and may give you suggestions or reslve your issue. I hope this heps
Cheers and regards,

  • Windows automatic update disabled

I removed a Lenovo program thinking it was extraneous and now my automatic update for windows no longer functions. I can't remember the name of the program I discarded but it's absence is sorely felt, any ideas?

I am using Windows xp. I get a message telling me that Window Automatic update is disabled. When I go to System, Automatic updates the setting is checked for automatic but it is "greyed over". If I go to the Windows Update site I get the following messsage
Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed)
To make sure these services are running:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
    3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click Properties.
    4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
    5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
    6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and then click Properties.
    7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply.
    8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
    9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click Properties.
    10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
    11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
When I try to enable the Automatic Backup I get "Error #1058"

  • Satellite C660 - Windows Updates keep disabling my wireless.

The last few updates have disabled my wireless and I was only able to get it working again by winding back using System Restore.
The last time this happened (last month) even that didn't fix it and I had to let PC World look at it.
They undid Windows updates one-by-one until they eventually restored the wireless.
Their advice was to NOT let Windows automatically update my PC!
The problem I now have is when should I allow an update?
Sometimes there are important security updates.
How do I discriminate between them and more importantly why is my Toshiba prone to these problems and what is Toshiba doing about preventing them in the first place?

It may seem unlikely, but it happened on 4 seperate occasions. Even PC World said that the updates were the cause (although I'm not too confident of their abilities).
The fact is that after restarting my pc following the updates, my wireless ceased to function. It was all switched on and Control Panel stated all the drivers were current, but I was unable to receive a signal from my router.
Using System Restore I was able to get it going again 3 times, but the last time it wouldn't play, so I resorted to using PC World as I have a Tech Guys contract with them. It took them a day and a half of undoing Windows updates to get it working again and they advised me to disable the automatic updates function.
Since then I haven't installed any updates and I haven't had the problem. Kind of speaks for itself really!

  • Windows 8 automatic update keeps turning itself off

My windows 8 automatic update alert to turn it on keeps alerting me that it needs to be turned on,( the little flag to go to action center with the red background and white cross..)
so i go to action center and change the setting from automatic updates off to on (recommended) automatic update, yet maybe 30 mins later it pops up again to tell me its off and  needs setting to turn on automatic updates.
I would like to leave it set at the recommended setting , but for some reason it reverts back to off, after some time, even after rebooting etc.
Please help, could it have anything to do with the new bit defender i have purchased or the fact that i have not been able to trust this pc? as i did a system refresh only days before i installed bit defender .
so yeh also having trouble trusting my pc?? ive signed in so many times i give up trying to follow the prompts, as i don't really keep passwords etc on my pc i was not so worried about that but it could be this that caused this prob, or the fact i haven't
updated to win 8.1, the reason i did not update to win 8.1 was because the new system created two accounts for me n my wife , and i did not wish to have such and it was just a nightmare so i uninstalled it along with many other reasons ive now forgot, but
it was not user friendly for my purposes in sharing a laptop with my wife.
any help would be appreciated in layman's terms as i am not really a wizard on these computers.
    Thank you

  • Windows automatic update disabled HDMI.

I just purchased a new Pavilion 15. For 2 days it worked perfectly hooked up to a TV via the HDMI connection. Last night windows (8.1) did an automatic update and following that it no longer recognizes the HDMI port.
I have read the trouble shooting. I tried recovering the drivers but gave up after half the day was wasted on no progress.
I called tech support and was not given a simple answer either.
Is there a simple and quick solution?
The Best Buy I purchased it from is less than 5 minutes away from me and will refund it as it's only a few days old. Is that my quickest solution?

Hello! The solution to this was already given at http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/HDMI-output-not-working-after-Windows-8-1-up...
    I hope this helps!

  • Raid building tip - Turn off Windows "Automatic update"

If you are running Windows and are in the software configuration setup stage of  creating your raid, make sure you have windows update NOT set to automatic.
Otherwise during your long raid building stage (in my case it took almost an entire day when I configured my raid back in June) Windows could download an update and automatically install it and keep warning you that it will reboot in "so many " minutes unless you tell it to delay rebooting.  As you know, it will keep bugging your that it about to reboot over and over again.
Fortunately I have automatic updates turned OFF on my editing machine so I have no surprise rebooting.
Since automatic update can be complety silent, you might go to bed expecting to see your raid finished in the morning, only to be surprised to find that your computer rebooted sometime during the night -- and  your raid not completed.
    Rowby

Raid rebuilding will continue after a reboot. Restarting the system will not stop a rebuild from continuing.

  • App Store won't show updates if automatic update is disabled

After updating to iOS 7, I enabled automatic updating of Apps in the App Store.   I decided I didn't want to do that so I then disabled it.  That was yesterday.  Today the App Store update page didn't show any pending updates despite having a badge number (which went away when I went into the store).  I knew there were updates since they downloaded to iTunes yesterday so I tried killing the App Store app and loading it again, but nothing changed.  Finally I enable automatic updates and sure enough the App Store showed there were 11 pending updates and started downloading them.
When it was done, I turned automatic updates off again, but the App Store doesn't appear to check for or show updates if downloading of automatic updates is turned on and then back of.  Is this working for anyone?

I am having similar problems.  The App Store icon badge is not updating.  I do not use automatic updates.  I update all my apps on iTunes on a Windows PC and then sync my iPads and iPhone.  The icon badge does not update until the App Store is initiated and Updates is selected.  Another strange behavior is that if App Store was initiated and Updates was selected with one or more updates displayed AND the the device is locked, when the device is unlocked the Updates display will be cleared and indicate that all apps are up to date!!!!  The App Store must be exited and Updates reselected before the updates are displayed and the appropriate icon badge count is displayed.
You can only rely on an appropriate update count on the device by initiating the App Store (from the Home screen) and selecting Updates.

When I turn off the automatic updates for my apps in my settings and later come back to it, it is turned back on. I have tried rebooting several times after turning it off but it is always still on. How can I fix this? (iPhone 5s, iOS Version 8.0)

  • IOS 7 App automatic update even disabled

    Hi,
My iPhone 4s on iOS 7.0.2 automatically updates its Apps using 3G, even all Automatical Downloads and Use Cellular Data are disabled. I almost run out of my data allowance in one day. I wonder what is going on and how to prevent it.
    Any idea is highly appreciated.
    allanzh

Well, this morning when I was in bus I checked the app update and was going to do the update at work using office wifi. When I got off bus I found it was already done. And without a prompt for my password. In the afternoon, I checked the my data usage and confirmed that it had been done through 3G.
Anyway, I will test it later when more updates are coming.

  • Automatically update option disabled in iTunes summary - no push happening!

Changes I am making in Calendar and contacts does not appear to be pushing to my iPhone which is on 2.0. In iTunes summary page, the option to Automatically update the iPhone is disabled and unchecked - I can't change it - is this why the facility is not working. Also, in the Settings > Fetch menu it just says that Push is happening for Mail, I never had the option to select Calendars and Contacts as detailed in the Apple MobileMe tutorial. Can someone help, also perhaps explain how this Push thing is working - is it happening over 3G as I don't get the best 3G coverage and am inclined ot switch it off - will I still be eligiible for Push?

The Podcasts tab in iPod preferences only applies to podcasts you've downloaded via iTunes. Podcasts in your library are considered music even when the Genre is set to "Podcast".
To automatically transfer those files to you iPod, create a (smart) playlist with just the podcasts and choose "Automatically update selected playlists only" from the Music tab in iPod preferences.

  • Windows Automatic Updates

I'm trying to access the automatic updates console on server 2012 and Im not finding anything. I try searching just update and finds nothing. Google not showing much apart from wsus and GPO's which is not what Im after. is there a way to access the updates
console, I take it I most likely got to install a feature or something or is it wsus only?

Are you referring to the windows updates settings? You say not WSUS, so i'm assuming this is the case.
If you're other colleagues are able to get to it and you're not, do you receive any error messages? What is the behavior?

  • X220 TouchPad need to keep disabled

    I have a X220.
    I've disabled the TouchPad by
Control Panel > Device Manager > Mouse Properties > UltraNav.
    It seems take effect.
But once I reboot my PC, the TouchPad is enabled again.
How can I keep it disabled?
    Environment:
    Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit
    ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 16.2.19.2
    ThinkPad UltraNav Utility 2.13.0
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Don't bother messing around with drivers you won't need anymore, and bothering with all of the uninstall this, reinstall this stuff.
If you want it permanently disabled (like I have done), just disable it in the BIOS.
Press the "Thinkvantage" button as the system first boots.
Press "F1" when you see the list of options.
Go to "Config" in the bios.
    Go to "Keyboard and mouse".
Set the touchpad to disabled, and leave the trackpoint enabled.
Now you can use the "nub", the buttons, the touch screen (if you have one), and never worry about that awful trackpad again. If you decide to use it again, just go into the bios and enable it back on. It only takes a couple seconds to do.
I would however recommend installing the ultranav drivers directly from synaptics, so that you can adjust any settings you want to change for the trackpoint.
    good luck.

  • Windows Automatic Update Error 80072EFD - After new HD installation by Toshiba

    Hi,
The hard drive went in my computer and I got it repaired at Toshiba Service centre. Four weeks later and it wont update windows which now causes web site security certificate errors with itunes, banks and paying for items on the web. I have called Toshiba and told them when I got it back it doesn't work correctly and they say its not there problem! Windows worked fine before the hard drive re-install.
I have tried nearly every suggestion on windows forums out there and tried to install the windows fix it tool but it wont let me on my laptop. I have also tried installing the Intel driver that people recommend but that also doesn't work. I have malware scanned the system as suggested by Microsoft it still wont work.
I keep getting windows error code 80072ED. The only thing i havent done which was suggested by toshiba was do a re-install by holding 0 key when rebooting the computer but I dont want to lose my hard drive and wipe it all. Im using windows 7 home premium. Somebody please help.
    Thanks

the old hard drive was removed and a new hard drive installed and the computer re configured to out of the box state. I dont think the windows update has worked since I got it back from Toshiba.
If it's just back from the Toshiba shop and doesn't work right before making changes, you should return it.
That error code indicates a network configuration problem. Do you have other problems on the internet?\
Do you have more than one anti-virus program resident in memory?

  • FIngerprint reader stopped working after windows automatic updates

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Envy j109tx laptop.
From day one the finger print scanner was not working.
After updating hp simplepass it started to work.
Again today I installed some windows update. After that it stopped working.
The light in the fingerprint reader is not turning on.
Is there a fix for this?
    Someone please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    @naga5speed ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  First thing did you do the windows update due to your system having some issue?
If not then do a system restore back before the update.
It is probably some microsoft update that is conflicting with the driver.
It is good to keep your system up to date.  But it is better to make sure before you run an update that you take a look as to why you are updating.
Do I need to fix an issue?
If i do not do the update will something stop working?
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If this fails to work then you may have to back up your data and run a system recovery.  The reason for this is what ever update you ran has made changes to system files or the registry that a restore will not fix.
