XA Datasource on J2SDKEE1.3 RI server

All, trying to setup an Oracle XA datasource on the RI server. Used the j2eeadmin tool to create the DS, but when starting the server I get:
Binding DataSource, name = jdbc/xa/rob9i, url = jdbc/xa/rob9i__xa

The error message is not very good as it doesn't tell me what method the class is trying to instantiate. I'm using JDK 1.3.1_02 on Win 2K
Thanks,
Rob

I have seen this happen if you configure the datasource with a property that does not exist. Check the properties supported by the driver and your config. The method name its trying to find is derived dynamically from the property name you supplied in config.

  • Setting XA DataSource on Sun Java Appliation Server 8.1 enterprise with MyS

    Hi everyone,
I am developing a J2EE application that requires to query data from 2 different MySQL catalogs using CMP EJB. I am using MySQL JDBC Connector/J 5.0.4 (currently latest), and deployment server is Sun Java Appliation Server 8.1 enterprise edition.Everything worked perfectly till I started to query both datasources in a single transaction. For a case when both datasources are configured as follows:
    Resource Type: javax.sql.XADataSource
    DataSource Classname: com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlConnectionPoolDataSource
    I get the following exeption:

Any help is appriciated. I can provide more info if necessary.
    Thanks in advance

I think this is the MySQL JDBC driver bug. They claim that the 5.0 version of JDBC driver supports distributed transactions (XA)
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/connector-j-versions.html
However it is not tested on Sun AS. Is there anyone who succeeded to execute distributed transaction on Sun Java Appliation Server 8.1 enterprise with MySQL database?

To get an XA connection from a SQL Server database, first the Database needs to be configured for allowing XA. This will need to be done by DBA and by default it is not enabled.
Check these links and ask the DBA if XA is configured on the SQL Server instance you are trying to connect to.

  • JRC bug: apostrophe in string parameter passed to Crystal Report with Command datasource to SQL Server

    Post Author: nl11087
    CA Forum: JAVA
A single quote/apostrophe in string parameter passed to a Crystal Report with Command datasource connecting to a SQL Server database, using sqljdbc driver does not escape the special character correctly. When doing a preview in the Crystal Reports IDE it allows you to escape the input parameter as expected and work correctly, but through the JRC component it fails. For string parameters without special sql server characters I experience no problems at all. When replacing the Command with a direct table there is also no problem.
    Reproduction:
    1. create a database db1, create a table table1 with a String type column col1.
    2. Create new report Report1.rpt, create a connection to above, Add Command using 'SELECT col1, col2, col3 FROM table1 WHERE col1 = '{?Par1}' . Add a parameter field Par1 : String
    3. In your java stand alone application using JRC add the parameter Par1 with a value "Jon Doe's Value" containing a single apostrophe. Export to PDF. (I also tried MSWord and this failed too, similar behavior). Additionally, in another test try to replaceAll("'","''") to escape it, preventing the code to break, but now it does not retrieve the expected row anymore and you end up with an empty report.

  • DataSource Fails to Connect After SQL Server Reboots

I have a SQL Server which is rebooted once every week. I also have a small daemon thread running on Tomcat 4.1 that checks a database every 60 seconds for a specific setting. When something changes it sends an email to the required email address. The connection object the daemon uses is created from a datasource configured in Tomcat's server.xml specific to the daemon's application. After the reboot of the SQL Server I receive this error message "[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Connection reset by peer: socket write error" ever time the daemon tries to connect to the datasource.
Anybody have any ideas as to where the problem may lie?
Any suggestions as to a work around?
    Thanks

  • Which is Best way to pool DB connections on Server no-J2EE???

I have a applicatio, which run on very different app servers (WebSpere, JRun and i-Planet)... the db conncetion problems existe whit server no-J2EE compliant, like as i-Planet.
On J2EE servers I cant use Server DataSource to pooled connection, and server make this work transparently and good.
But, if have to manually manage to pool connection, which is the best way?
Befor use Poolman package... by CodeStudio, but is not effective for me...
Now, are studying the Jackarta-Commons DBCP...
Which is the best ?... there is other solution for this problem ?.
    thx !

App in I'm work, make exhaustive use of db connection,
only on startup, use a average of 130 connection
    request on less 10 secconds.
All connection requested, when finish to use, there
are closed, supposeddly, the closed connction are
returned to pool, but this no happend it quickl, How do you know it doesn't happen quickly?
Normally a returned connection would just be inserted into a list with a possible state change. That would be very quick in java. It might check the state of the connection and that is going to take longer Another pool manager might do the same though.
    then,
if pool is able to create emmergency connections (up
num max) always returned new connection, any one
else, if pool can't create emmergency connection
objects, app wait for free connection of pool... long
delay !Of course, but any pool is going to do that.

  • How to use one Datasource name with different pools

    Hi,
I am using WLS 814 with 4 managed servers.
Our application uses (Entity) EJBs with a defined datasource name.
Each managed server should have its own connection pool pointing to a separate database.
Now I want to deploy the same EAR on all servers.
But how can I use the same datasource name across all servers?

    Frank Bareuther wrote:
The DBMS is the same, we are only using a different database user to log on.
There is a separate db user for each server.
The EAR with a given datasource name in the entity EJBs should be deployed
on all 4 servers without changing descriptors.Interesting. And what is the value of using a different schema/user in the
different servers? I do believe that this configuration issue can be
achieved but I have not done it myself. I believe there is a way to
have some portions of a managed server's configuration by in a per-server
config file. That would be where you would define the pool. The DataSource
could also be there (with the same name for every server), or it could
be in the common one in the admin server.
I would file a support case to get this documented to show you how to
    do what you want.

  • How to use jndi datasource on Weblogic instead of adding a DB data source

    Hi All,
    version: 11.1.1.4
I am trying to figure out how in my ADF applications I can use an existing jndi datasource out on our weblogic servers instead of having to bury the Database db source in my adf applications. Like SOA I would like to reference the DB directly during design so I can pull in entities and build view objects, but when I deploy I want it to reference the jndi datasource out on the weblogic server.
Is this possible? If so I am not sure how to configure it like I would a DB adapter in SOA.
    As always appreciate the info.
    Thanks,
    S

If you use ADF in the model layer (application modules) you can configure them to use JNDI Datasources. Just right click on the application module and select 'Configurations...'. In the next dialog you see all the configurations currently available (one named xxxxxlocal and one named xxxxxshared at least). Select the local and hit the edit button. This open the DB connect dialog where you can change the connection from JDBC URL to JDBC Datasource (JNDI). Save your work and when you now start the app it will use the JNDI name.

  • Connection failure after deploying to 10.1.3 app server

I am working on a three-tier application that uses session EJB facades and TopLink for persistence. I configured a datasource in the embedded OC4J server preferences in JDeveloper (10.1.3) and can successfully deploy my persistence code to the embedded server and access it from a test client.
I recently installed Oracle App Server 10g 10.1.3 to be used for integration testing. In JDeveloper, I configured a new application server connection and EJB Jar deployment profile to allow me to deploy my persistence code to the new server. When I deploy my code to the server and attempt to use one of the session EJB persistence methods, I get the following exception message:
Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: javax.resource.spi.ApplicationServerInternalException: Unable to create a connection. Connection factory has been stopped.Error Code: 0
In the Oracle Enterprise Manager, my application is running and the datasource and connection pool test successfully.
If I restart OC4J from Oracle Enterprise Manager, my application works correctly, at least until I have to deploy new code to the server, at which time the above error reappears. My question: Should OC4J have to be restarted each time new code is deployed? I am not making any changes to the datasource or connection pool configurations. Thanks.

    Thanks Jaap.
I was told recently by someone at Oracle that Forms/Reports is supported on 10.1.3.x and eventually on 11g (not yet released), and I was also told 10.1.3 doesn't require two servers, but I'm having trouble finding much to support either claim.
Reason I'm asking is that we're currently using the client/server Forms/Reports and need to decide on a migration path and l don't know if it's wise to continue with the 10.1.2 App Server knowing it's going to be de-supported in a few short years and I don't want to go with 10.1.3 if it requires additional servers (we're small). We're looking at APEX as a possible alternative...

  • Datasources connection questions

    hi all
my question is about How the connections stored in a Jndi server datasource pool are managed.
For example, I'm developing a J2EE application with Ejbs and Datasources, etc. I saw that when I want to retrieve a connection from datasource to work on it I need do something like this:
For example to retrieve a datasource connection:
    Hashtable jndiProps = new Hashtable();
    jndiProps.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,...);
    jndiProps.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, ...);
    Context context = new InitialContext(jndiProps);
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) context.lookup("jdbc/MyDatasource");
    Connection con = ds.getConnection();
...I know in this case that the server manages a datasource connection pool, etc
My question is when a get a connection from the Datasource pool of my app server. do I need to release the connection with some special method when I finish with it (in order to return it to the pool) or it doesn't matter ?
    thanks in advance

If I have three prepared statements right in a row with nothing in between should I close the connection after each one and then get it again?
Seems like I would be just as well off to just get the conn once do the 3 things then close it.
and in spots I might actually be doing something as i step through the first result set so can i use conn.preparedStatement() in the loop many times without getting the connection and closing each time through the loop?
i of course close all PS and RS and use diff PS2 and RS2 in the loop so i 'm just talking about keeping the conn open while (RS.next()) and use it multiple times to conn.preparedStatement() inside the loop?
or should i use 2 connections lol and open conn1 and then in loop use conn2 and close it each time around the loop and then close conn1 when i exit the loop?

  • Re: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

    Hi,
I'm encountering an issue with "Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 windows" and am having problems determining how to fix it due to the environment I'm using.  I have two SQL Servers installed on two separate Win2K3 Server boxes, one is SQL Server 2000 and the other is SQL Server 2005.  The SQL Server 2000 contains the actual application data.  The 2005 database is used only for Reporting Services.  I've set up the reports on SSRS such that their datasources hit the 2000 server.  This is using SQL Server authentication.
When testing the reports via SSRS (in Visual Studio 2005), the connection to the data works and the reports are generated fine.  When I deploy them to the reporting server and launch IE to test locally (still on the 2005 box), I get this "Named Pipes Provider, error 40" issue.  I made sure that Named Pipes and TCP were enabled and the port set at 1433 (to match that on the 2000 box).
Now I changed the datasource's authentication from SQL Server to Windows authentication.  I tested this in SSRS and this works too.  When I redeployed the reports with this authentication change, testing the reports via IE locally (on the 2005 box) worked.  Great.  Now when I open IE on an external box, i.e. on the 2000 box, and try to test the reports, I get this same error 40 issue.  I've been through a few threads describing the error 40, fiddling around with the SQL Server configuration as well as SSRS, to no avail.  I have a feeling this error 40 issue has to due with permissions/authentication between the SQL Server boxes but I can't really be sure.  Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot my situation.  Thanks.

Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server :
    I.   Incorrect connection string, such as using SqlExpress.
    Check out: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=558456&SiteID=17
                    https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1245564&SiteID=1
The typical error when dealing with Express includes:
    a.  User is not aware of SqlExpress was installed as a named instance, consequently, in his/her connection string, he/she only specify ".","localhost" etc instead of ".\SqlExpress" or "<machinename>\Sqlexpress".
    b. Np was disabld by default after installing SqlExpress.
    c. If Sqlexpress was installed on the remote box, you need to enable remote connection for Express.
Please read the following blog for best practice of connecting to SqlExpress.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/03/23/558651.aspx
II. Named Pipes(NP) was not enabled on the SQL instance.
    Check out: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=136253&SiteID=1
Oppose to SQL 2000 which turn on all protocols, SQL 2005 SKUs turn off NP by default. So, when you see this error, please check:
    1) Go to SQL Server Configuration Manager, See Server has NP enabled.
    2) %windir%\program files\microsoft sql server\mssql.1\mssql\log, notepad ERRORLOG, see whether Server is listening on NP.  You should see "Server named pipe provider is ready to accept connection on [ \\.\pipe\sql\query ] or [\\.\pipe\mssql$<InstanceName>\sql\query]"
    3) Notice that "sql\query" is the default pipe name, so you need to know server is listening on which pipe name. eg: if you specify server pipe name is "sql\query1", then you would see in the errorlog that server listening on [ \\.\pipe\sql\query1 ], and go to SQL Server Configuration Manager, click client Named Pipe properties, see whether the pipe name is same with the one server listening on.
    4) If you are using SQL Native Client ODBC/OLEDB provider({SQL Native Client} or SQLNCLI), go to SQL Configuration Manager, click client protocols, make sure NP and TCP are both enabled. Right click properties of NP, make sure client is using the same pipe name as server for connection.
    5) If you are using MDAC ODBC/OLEDB({SQL Server} or SQLOLEDB) provider, in command line, launch "cliconfg.exe" and make sure NP enabled and right pipe name specified.
III. Remote connection was not enabled.
Check out: when you right click on the Server in SQL Server Management Studio, in Connections, the Remote server connections part, you have enabled the "Allow remote connections to this server" check box
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=322792&SiteID=1
    https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=763875&SiteID=1
If you are making a remote connection, namely, your target SQL Server is on the different box as client application, you might need to check whether:
    a. "File and Printer Sharing" was opened in Firewall exception list.
    b. Please see the blog for enabling remote connection for express and troubleshooting tips of remote connection.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/11/14/492616.aspx
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/09/30/SQL-Server-2005-Remote-Connectivity-Issue-TroubleShooting.aspx
IV. Server not started, or point to not a real server in your connection string.
Check out: Open SQL Server Surface Area Configuration and ensure all the required services are started, Remote Connections are configured.
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=348662&SiteID=1
    a. use "sc query mssqlserver" for default instance or "sc query mssql$<instancename>" to make sure SQL Server was started. Sometimes, reseason behind the broken of your client application w/ this error:40 might be SQL server restarted and failed, so, it'd better for you to double check.
    b. User specified wrong server in their connection string, as described in the forum discussion, "MSSQLSERVER" is an invalid instance name. Remember, when you connect to default instance, <machinename> could be best representitive for the instance, when you connect to a named instance such as sqlexpress, you should specify <machinename>\<instancename> as data source in your connection string.
     V. Other reasons such as incorrect security context.
    Check out: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=192622&SiteID=1
Such error also occured during user operation such as moving database or db mirroring or cluster, any DB OP that might invovle different sql instances, namely, the destination database is located in another sql instance and user is not aware of the state of the destination. I recommend you first isolate whether this fail is during connection stage or data operation stage.
    a. During data operation, you are normally asked to type in the destination server name whether it is default to "(local)" or another server "<remotemachinename>". So, remember the exact string that represent the target instance, then when the error repros, open command line, use "sqlcmd -S<representitive> -E" ,see what happens, if the connection fail, please follow up above I - IV troubleshooting lists. otherwise continue.
    b. If you can make basic conection, but still face the error, then there must be something that server reject the connection or client close the connection for some reason.
VI. Please try basic connectivity tests between the two mahcines you are working on. One simple way to verifty connectivity is to use command line tools, such as osql.exe. For example, osql -E -Stcpervername\instancename. If it connects cross-machine successfully, please also verify that your connection string in your scenario is correct.
Here are some blogs which could be helpful: just follow the basic connectivity troubleshooting guidelines on the SQL Protocols blog, see:
