Xcode 2.5 on Leopard

Most of the books I've come across on Cocoa illustrate how to build GUI apps using Xcode 2.5. I'm using Leopard and Xcode 3.0, so it's hard to follow along because Interface Builder is so different from 2.5.
So my question is can I install and use Xcode 2.5 on Leopard? If not, does anyone know if/when Apple will be coming out with an update to Xcode 3.0?

Of course you can install Xcode 2.5 on Leopard alongside Xcode 3.0, it was made only for that !
It was made for application that are not ready to be ported using Xcode 3.0, so of you can install it...
By the way, I don't think you books are based on Xcode 2.5 because it was out AFTER Xcode 3.0... However, that's just a detail...
And for the second question, what do you mean by "update to Xcode 3.0" ?

  • How can i get xcode for osx snow leopard?

how can i get xcode for osx snow leopard?

I'm an experienced software developer (C, C++, Lisp, Linux, Unix, etc) but have never done any Mac development, and wanted to try some stuff on my iMac at home, but I have Snow Leopard and most of the turtorials I looked at said the first thing I had to do was download XCode and the first thing that happened when I tried to do that was it said I had to upgrade to Lion.
My iMac is running SnowLeopard.   I don't have any big reason to stay at SnowLeopard, but from stuff I've seen in the forums I can't see any big reason to upgrade to Lion.   I might eventually want to do development for IOS on an iphone or iPad, but for now I just want to do a simple tutorial app for my iMac.
I found the downloads search page, and it looks like there's two versions of Xcode  3.2.7 which has a release date of Sep 2011, and 3.2 with a release date of Jan 2012.
Which one should I download?   And if I download one of these will it be a problem if I do upgrade to Lion in a few months?

  • Can't debug in XCode 3.1 on Leopard

    Hi
I'm having some trouble getting the debugger working in XCode 3.1 on Leopard (10.5.2) running on a 1st gen MacBook. I can still run the program, just not debug it. This happens across all my projects.
Same code debugs fine on Tiger, anyway here is what the run log says:
    <paste>
    Loading program into debugger…
    GNU gdb 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-908) (Tue Mar 11 10:11:42 UTC 2008)

This GDB was configured as "i386-apple-darwin".

    Program loaded.
    sharedlibrary apply-load-rules all
    run
[Switching to process 392 local thread 0x2f13]
/bin/bash: line 0: exec: arch: not found
    </paste>
That last line seems to be the problem, but I don't know where that code runs. It sounds like it is a shell script of some sort that bails on the first line.
Running arch from the terminal outputs i386, which seems correct.
The program then just hangs and apparently does nothing, and the only way to exit is by clicking the stop sign.
My base SDK is 10.4, I've googled this problem without success.
    Has anyone seen this before?
Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alexander

After googling some more I came across this:

You can get gdb to avoid the use of arch altogether by making a file
called .gdbinit in your home directory, and put:
    set start-with-shell 0
...and that did the trick for me!
I'm now able to debug again, so I'm marking this as solved.

  • Why cant i re-download xcode 4 for snow leopard from the mac app store?

i reformatted my mac's hd and didnt back up applications that i bought from the mac appstore cause its easy to re-download, so im trying to re-download and instal xcode for snow leopard the one that you purchase for 5 dollars

Been trying about 2 weeks now to get the xcode 4 for snow leopard that I purchased for $5 installed on my new macbook pro but I get the same error.  After several frustrating calls and emails the final verdict from Apple was either contact the developer and get a copy (uh Apple right?) or you just can't install it since they've removed it from the App Store. They said just upgrade to Lion but I can't upgrade to Lion on my work machine since well Lion brings down our NAS.  So I'm totally hosed on this one.  Apple should not force us to move to Lion.  That's not right.
There isn't a version of Xcode on this machine so there shouldn't be any conflicts.  I REALLY need Xcode 4 installed and this is really frustrating because I already paid for the thing.

  • Does xcode come with snow leopard

    Hi,
I was wondering if xcode comes with snow leopard? If so, where do you find it?

do u need to be a dev to use it?
You can sign-up for a "Free" Apple Developer Connection account which gives you access to newer versions of Xcode, as well as additional developer resources.

  • Audio Tools for Xcode 4.2 Snow Leopard

Hi there, I'm looking to start making audio units. I'm using Xcode 4.2 on Snow Leopard, however I cannot find the required audio tools for Xcode. I have found them for Mountain Lion and Lion but not Snow Leopard. I desperately do not want to change my OS and am happy with my version of Xcode. I no longer have the Snow leopard install dvd. Could someone please link me to a download.
    Cheers

If you have 4.2 for Snow Leopard you are in the paid developer program. You'll have better results asking the question there.

  • Xcode Install on Snow Leopard

Hello, I'm new to OSX, I just bought a used Tiger MacBook and upgraded it to Snow Leopard. I have installed XCode off of the Snow Leopard CD and the install says that it completed successfully but I do not see XCode in Finder. Should there be a "developers" group in Finder? I've gone through all of the folders in Finder and I do not see it. Please help.

there should be a Developer folder at the top level of your hard drive and everything should be in there. if that folder is not there it means that developer tools were not installed.

  • Xcode 4 for snow leopard?

    Hey,
I don´t want to update to Lion... there are so many people having problems with it. I am using Word etc. and I don´t want any problems...
Is there any possibility to get Xcode 4 for SL? I can only find it for Lion, or Xcode 3.. for SL. And a few torrents. But I want it the official way.
    Thank you so much!

Thank you for your answer (again...:)
I am sorry, maybe there is something wrong with my account, but I can´t find it! And I only have two pages as a result...
    Page 2:
Do you have any idea why I can´t find it?
The latest version is 3.6.2... I searched almost everywhere and there are a lot other people with the same problem!

  • I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard. Now there is a new Xcode for Lion, so I downloaded the new one but the installed continued to be the old one. Now App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me to re-download Xcode. How can I proceed?

I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard 12 days ago. After installing Lion I saw there is a new FREE Xcode for it, so I downloaded the new one but after installing automatically Xcode for Lion the Developer folder contained the old one. I deleted the old Xcode but the App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me re-download Xcode.
How can I proceed? I'm guessing whether this problem will occur each time I buy an application from App Store.

Yes, that's righ, Xcode installer was in the Apps folder. I assumed it had been automatically installed and the installer deleted after installation (the same way as Lion is installed).
I tried also the procedure for redownloding applications, and MAS showed both Xcodes (Lion and Snow Leopard) and OS X Lion. We see that buttons for Lion and Xcode for Snow Leopard say 'Install' but Xcode for Lion says 'installed' because there is an Install Scode in the Apps folder.
    Thank you.

  • Xcode 3.0/leopard

i was wondering if i install leopard on my ibook g4 ppc will xcode 3.0 run?

    HI,
You can install XCode from a retail Leopard disk.
Make sure you have enough free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Not positive but I think XCode requires about 3GB of disk space.

  • Why can't I download Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard?

    Hi there,
I login to Apple Developer and click Download Xcode 4.2 (Snow Leopard) but I'm just presented with an Access Denied page... Do you know why this happens?
    Best Regards,
    Jens

    Thank you very much :-)
I just checked it again and here's what I've done:
    1) Browse to developer.apple.com
    2) Choose iOS Dev Center
    3) Log In
    4) Go down to the Downloads Section on http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/ios/index.action and click on Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard download link.
    5) The link is download.apple.com//Developer_Tools/xcode_4.2_with_ios_5_sdk/xcode_4.2_and_ios_ 5_sdk_for_snow_leopard.dmg but instead of downloading the file, I'm presented with an Access Denied page:

You aren't using an Nvidia mobo, Apple is responsible for base driver to enable hardware. You then need to update graphics (and audio, plus might be one or two others).

  • I can't (re)install Xcode for Snow Leopard

After deinstalling of Xcode for Snow Leopard, when I try to install it again in AppStore I get 2 error messages, the first one is "This item is temporarily unavailable. / Please try again." and the scond one is "We could not complete your request. / There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)". I really need the Xcode and... what I've paid my $$$ for if I can't get the purchase?

It looks like Apple forcing our moving to Lion.
It's not good thing at all and for me specially. I have some software that aren't compartible with Lion so I can't move to it right now.
So far, so less I like AppStore for Mac. The iPad/iPhone version of AppStore has no such problems, why the Mac's one has? Ugrh

I contacted App Store support and they gave me my money back, so that's something, but what I really want is Xcode 4 for Snow Leopard.
