Xcode 4.1 won't refactor C++

Hi,
I'm using the latest version of XCode in Lion.
I have some C++ code and want to rename a function.  Right clicking on the name brings up a menu with the "refactor" option.  Howver, when I select "refactor", I get  a dialog box telling me that XCode won't refector anything becuase my code isn't Objective C.
How is this possible?  Refactoring is a key part of development in MANY languges, not just Objective C.
Is there a work around for this?
Thanks!

Thanks,
That's disappointing.  Xcode is an awesome IDE.  I find it much easier to use then Eclipse.
The other feautres make it worth keeping as my main tool.  I guess I'll have to focus on using global searh and replace (Provided that isn't crippled either.)

  • Xcode 4.2 won't download (thinks it's already installed)

This is a follow up to my previous post, which I accidentally marked "correct answer" but isn't (and, apparently, Apple is not fixing up the undo-correct bug).
So, Xcode 4.1 won't install because it thinks it's already installed and now, when I decided to give up on 4.1 and go to 4.2, I can't even download it.  The app store also says it's already installed.  At least with 4.1 I had tried to install it - and think maybe it's there somewhere but I can't find it (and, now that I've uninstalled 4.0, I wonder if I also uninstalled 4.1 in the process since I used a shell command).  I didn't even download 4.2 much less install it and, if I understand correctly, I should be able to install it, even if I did have 4.0, 4.1 or whatever that existed previously.
    Any help?
    Thanks!

    Question to you ...
I just downloaded and installed Xcode 4.2.1 from the App Store.  The purpose was to enable my engineering software to have access to the C compiler.  After the installation, my engineering software found and invoked the downloaded compiler appropriately.
However, like a number of other folks, I found that I need to have Xcode 4.1.   Reading various threads it seems that many advise completely uninstalling 4.2.1 first before attempting to install 4.1.
I note that you successfully used:      "sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools -mode=all"  to remove Xcode 4.2      However, this does not work for me.   From my terminal I don't find a /Developer   directory or folder.   If I go to /Library I don't see /Developer there either.   In fact, I cannot find any "Developer" or "Xcode" folder anywhere, just the "Install Xcode" application.     On the other hand, my engineering sofware still "sees" and uses the Xcode compiler ... so it is here, somewhere.
Would you have any suggestions regarding how to expunge the Xcode 4.2.1?
    Thanks much for your thoughts

  • XCode iPhone Apps Won't Compile (or do much of anything really)

Ok so I've got the iPhone SDK installed and I'm just running through the iPhone Dev Center's little starter page, figured I'd start things off by running the MoveMe application. But no dice... I try to compile and XCode just sits there, usually with the progress stuck somewhere between 0% and 25%. No error messages, no status messages, nothin.
Well fine, so I try the Hello World sample project. Same story.
I try to compile a trusty old non-iPhone app. No problems here.
So I uninstall XCode and reinstall w/ the iPhone SDK. Same story, same situation.
I try moving files, making fresh projects, adding garbage code to the main function, but still absolutely nothing changes. I can compile just fine (and it will appropriately complain when I have garbage code in) but if I try to BUILD it just sits there.
An image of my frustration here... this is exactly what I see when I try to compile. And nothing MOVES.
Anyone have any insight into this? I'm still pretty green at XCode, so I'm not even sure where to start looking.

I also have the same issues. I've tried running the sample projects from the iphone developer site with no luck (tried with an ipod touch, with the simulator and no luck in either case :/)
What I have noticed is that it initially hangs on copying one of the assets (a png file in hello world). If I stop it and then try to build after, it hangs on trying to compile the xib file.

  • Xcode 3.2 won't install

I am trying to install the Xcode tools on my MacBook Pro with the Xcode.mpkg file included on the Snow Leopard installation disc, but for some reason the installation always fails. I do not have any previous versions of Xcode installed. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Post to the developer forums under OS X Technologies. Before trying again, open up the read me file, and run the full uninstall script described therein.

  • Xcode breakpoints not catching

I've been having some trouble in XCode where breakpoints won't catch sometimes. In all cases, the breakpoint indicator on the left side of the source editor window shows up as orange with a blue outline. They are usually solid blue. But when I debug the application, they sometimes switch to this orange color and won't catch.
Any ideas what's happening here? I am compiling the project in DEBUG mode, and I'm not placing the breakpoints on invalid lines. No errors or warnings during compilation or during debugging in the console.
    Please advise.

This may be the cause of my trouble. I found this in the XCode 3.1 release notes...
"The default setting for debugging libraries and frameworks is Load Symbols Lazily. On occasion this causes breakpoints to not be hit. Turning off this setting makes it take longer to start debugging, but hits breakpoints more reliably."

  • Can iSyncPluginMaker be downloaded as standalone version *without XCode*?

    Hello!
Is there any way to download *only* iSyncPluginMaker without having to download the free but enormous Xcode (1.68 GB!!!) ?
Otherwise, could someone be so kind and send me the application or a link to it?
    Many thanks in advance!

iSync Plugin Maker is not available seperately. There is no download link available apart from the one for XCode.
It won't work as a standalone application - it requires additional files/libraries installed as part of the Developer Tools installation to run.
iSync has been discontined as of the release of Lion, so if you're planning to upgrade to Lion anytime soon, bear in mind there's no iSync anymore.

  • A weird installer issue with xcode

This is a new macbookpro i bought only a few weeks ago. I installed xcode on it, then removed it due to the fact that i needed to put some really huge hd video files, which needed all the hard disk space i could muster. After moving the videos from my mbp to my external hd, i tried to install xcode again. However, xcode's mpkg won't open, no matter how many times i open it with installer. Other mpkgs and pkgs work fine. What's the problem?

Hi rhonnywhoop, and welcome to the Dev Forum!
    rhonnywhoop wrote:

There's no such thing as a weird issue with Xcode after an uninstall-install again cycle. Almost anything can go wrong and weird is the rule, not the exception. But yes, most of the strange problems show up after the installation (e.g., Xcode won't open, Xcode starts up but gcc always fails, Interface builder won't read nib files, etc., etc.). If I needed disk space for a video, I'd probably get another drive before I'd uninstall Xcode, but then I use Xcode all the time. Plus it's too late for that advice, so I'll try my best to point you in the right direction.
    A few questions:
    1) Was there any message when the mpkg failed to open? Please post any such message for us;
    2) Did you install from the DVD that came with your MacBook, or did you download a dmg from the Mac or iPhone Dev Center? If you haven't tried downloading the latest Xcode version yet, that might be worth trying;
    3) Did you uninstall from Terminal, using the command given in the Xcode doc (e.g. /Developer/"About Xcode Tools.pdf"? If not, how did you uninstall the prior Dev Tools?
    4) Is any entry made in one of your logs at the time of the failure? E.g., open Console.app (in /Applications/Utilities) and look for the most recent entries in install.log and system.log. If you find anything like that, please post it for us;
    5) Have you tried any additional cleanup besides the recommended uninstall (question 3, above)? Based on case histories in this and other forums, the most powerful trick is to rename /Developer (e.g. to /OldDev). Other tips will be found by searching on terms like "uninstall" or "clean" in this forum.
In general, we can assume that since your previous installation was successful, the game is to restore your system to its past condition. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it might help to rule out irrelevant conditions as you try one thing after another. In fact, some developers have cleaned up by re-installing the entire system (needless to say, be sure to try restarting your system before resorting to anything that drastic!). On the other hand, some developers have reported that installing a more recent version of the Dev Tools (if any), can clean up a problem when repeated installs of the same system fail.
I hope something above will lead you to a solution. Several other developers who regularly contribute to this forum know much more than I do about installation problems. For example, if etresoft joins this thread, be sure to follow his instructions completely and before any others.

  • Xcode will not start

Hello, I could not find problems similair to mine so here goes:
After playing around with Info.plist and changing a few values in it, Xcode won't start. If I click on the Xcode icon in the dock, it bounces but will not open..
The same is true if I try to open individual files like Info.plist (which uses Xcode to open).
If I go to Xcode.app/Contents/Applications, there applications can open, iPhone Simulator works.. but Xcode itself just won't open. Can someone please help me with this frustrating issue, is it because i modifed Info.plist?
    Thanks!!

    Delete it and re-install.

after running an app store update, (Xcode) my mbp won't power up and the battery lights are showing flat even though it was on charge over night.
the update was taking a long time, and it had a message saying something like deleting old files.
i went to bed and left it over night.
when i went back this mornng it had powered down, and the drained the battery even though it was plugged in.
now i can not power up, and i have tried the smc reset.
    please help.
    many thanks.

  • Xcode network user problems

Hello, has anybody had the problem of getting Xcode to work on network home folders? If we go in as a local account xcode works great, but students need to save their work.
Here's the problems we're having with network users:
    1) Can't save projects at all
    2) Can't link libraries either
This is a pure mac server/client set-up. all other apps work for these users except xcode.
    ideas?

Hi, I have the same or similar problem with Xcode. It won't let the users save modified files in the network home folders. I have solved the problem temporarily by letting the students save on a local partition, that works.
It is very strange, if you look at the file permissions with Finder they are.
    Owner: Read and write 'ownername'
Group: Read only 'admin' ( I expected it to be staff or 'ownername' group)
    Others: Read only
Here's the problems we're having with network users:
    1) They can save new projects in the home folders but once it is saved they can't modify and save files.
    2) If I log in from a diffrent computer and mount the user home folder ( with command-K) and create an xcodeproject those files get these permissions:
    Owner: Read and write 'ownername'
    Group: Read only 'staff'
    Others: Read only
    Which is correct, I think.
I have tried to change the file permissions with Unix terminal but that does not help either. When the students open the project they still can't modify and save.
I have cloned my computers and I thought it was a cloning problem so I uninstalled the xcode files and made a clean install but that didn't help.
    I need help

  • IPhone SDK 2.0 - xcode fails to build new project

I downloaded and installed the latest iPhone 2.0 SDK. I did not uninstall any previous tools (xcode/SDK). I assume the 2.0 SDK installation will perform the upgrade in a proper fashion (not requiring one to uninstall the previous SDK/xcode). I start up xcode. I check the version via the about menu. It states that the version of xcode is 'Version 3.1 (Beta)'. The project settings indicate that the Base SDK is Device - iPhone OS 2.0. I checked my system to ensure that my current filesystem has the correct SDK. It has the Macintosh HD->iPhoneOS.pltaform->Developer->SDK's->iPhoneOS2.0.sdk.
OK, everything seems good up to this point. I create a new xcode application for the iPhone. I then go to compile the application and I get the following error:
/Developer/iPhone Examples/Foo/Classes/FooAppDelegate.h:16: error: syntax error before 'UIToolbarController'
    Source code line : UIToolbarController *toolbarController;
Yes I realize that the UIToolbarController API has been removed for SDK 2.0. However, how can one use xcode to build a starter application if it is generating code that references outdated API's???
Am I doing something wrong? I have searched all the forums but have not come across this issue. Hence, I think something is wrong with my setup/install. If the solution is not to use UIToolbarController API, then why does the xcode still use it to build starter code projects? Also, if we can't use the API, what is it's replacement?
    thanks

It created more errors, as there are a whole lot of other API's
that have changed (UIViewController now doesn't resolve
some of it's members, e.g. toolbarItem).
Err... hello? Someone just told you what the names have changed to!
Wow. I have about 1 months worth of work, that I am going to
have to seriously think about throwing away because of all of
    these growing pains.
Can't talk about the iPhone SDK specifically, but Xcode in general has great refactoring tools that will make the name changes, in all locations, in a split second for you. No, lets not get hysterical. It's not one month's work at all. It's not even five seconds work.
I think the newer 2.0 release is causing more problems than solutions.
That's the whole point. It's not a release. It's a beta. That's what happens with beta's. That's why you sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), stating that under no conditions will you discuss the SDK with anyone, and that you agree that things may change without prior notice or even break down completely.
Basically shutting down all of my development efforts.
    Errrr.... hello again?

  • Apps query 10.7

    I hv a query in Oracle Applications (10.7 SC) GL if u can contact somebody to get it clarified ;
The COA has 4 segments Company.Account.Center.SubLeg, as u know while defining a New Account in GL u have to define the segment qualifier i.e. an "account type" whether it is a Asset/ Liability/ Operating/ Revenue account. Once it is defined and saved the Account type segment qualifier can not be altered.
After a deep homework we found that the same could be altered if u unfreeze the FlexField defination and change the segment qualifier.
If u do so the changes can be seen there but it is not affected in Account Code Combinations table. But we tried this change to be affected there in CUI mode and it worked. Remember that there is no transactions entered so far for that account.
My Query is that if the method we adopted above is correct or not...? If it is correct then what is the other impact of freezing / unfreezing flexfield definations specially in a live system..?
If it is not correct than what is the correct method for doing this..?
Can we make these changes directly into the table using a script..?
I will appreciate yr response ASAP.
    Thanks
    null

Sure.  Download an old version of Xcode.
You won't be able to submit to the iTunes App Store unless you use the latest version of Xcode.

Try to copy a "Makefile" in Finder. It won't work.
Try to edit a "Makefile" with Xcode. It won't save the data on disk, instead somewhere in it's buffers.

    Any ideas?

It's true only for one specific directory. If I copy the Makefile to a different dir, everything is normal.
    Hmmh, no idea

Telnet is obsolete and insecure. Use ssh instead.
