I have found who different jars, one is called xercesimpl.jar and the other is xerces.jar.
I was building some code around xerces.jar and then when I went to integrate it into the main program, I found it was using this xercesimpl.jar.
So I was wondering, what is this? What is it in relation to xerces.jar?

I would be grateful is someone could help me with this.
I wanted to know if there is a equivalent of the method setReaderFactory() (which is present in class org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser ) in xercesImpl.jar or its other associated jar files.
The problem is that initially I only had to use xerces.jar and my code compiled fine. Now due to some additions I also need to set xercesImpl.jar in my classpath. Due to this I get a compilation error.

In my classpath settings xercesImpl.jar is before xerces.jar and I need to keep that order itself. As far as xercesImpl.jar having all the xerces.jar's contents in it.. well I dont think it does.. actually I think I will need to make changes to my code itself mainly the functionality of
setReaderFactory(new StreamingCharFactory)
will need to be replaced by some other suitable methods but right now I am in a real fix as to what needs to be done. Any help with this will be highly appreciated.

Error Loading xerces.jar file

I am getting the following errors while loading the Apache xercesImpl.jar file.

Hi,
Check whether the file is open? close the file and try to pull once again.
Fields are matching with the data source? check it once. it should be in sync with MData fields.
and may be the problem with data...I think some Extra permitted chars / lower case is there in flat file. this can be solved by RSKC

Strange problem with jars in Java Mapping

Hi All,
I'm trying to implement a Java Mapping that uses Xerces. I'm using xercesImpl.jar.
I put the xercesImpl.jar file in the folder containing the .class file (the Java Mapping program), and zipped the folder.I imported the zip file as an archive and used it in the Interface Mapping.
My code uses the org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser class.
However, while trying to execute the Interface Mapping, it gives error: Unable to find resource:'org/apache/xerces/parsers/SAXParser.class'.
The same method works when I'm using xerces.jar and using classes javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder and
javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory.
I can't figure out what the problem is.
Any ideas?

I tried all the methods suggested. Mow my problem is that I get the following error, when I try to instantiate the SAXParser class:
Unable to find resource:
META-INF/services/org.apache.xerces.xni.parser.XMLParserConfiguration
The XMLParserConfiguration class is actually in org.apache.xerces.xni.parser. Why does XI try to find it in the wrong sub-directory?
My code works just fine on standalone.

How to use 3rd party jar files for xml transform

Hi all,
Am using OAS9.0.4 and I deployed my .ear successfully.
In my application am using 4 jar files for xml transformation. (xerces.jar, xalan.jar, xml-apis.jar,xercesImpl.jar)
OAS has its own xmlparserv2.jar file. Its using this jar file for transforming xml data and not even looking for above mentioned 4 jar files.
In opmn.xml, I provided these 4 jar files in to class path. Then also it didn't effect my output.
I also tried as put these 4 jar files into j2ee\home\applib directory, but o result.
Can anybody tell me where should I keep these 4 jar files in OAS and OAS should use these 4 jar files instead of its own xmlparserv2.jar for transforming data.

Add the Xbootclasspath variable in the java-options field. It will somewhat look like the following in your opmn.xml file

Ensure to use th ^/a (append) signature

Java Studio Enterprise 8 and mail.jar

I have a problem with the mail.jar file being locked after a method is instantiated that actually sends a message (and invokes the mail.jar, activiation.jar, etc.) This is problematic because I can't redepoy an application from the Java Studio Enterprise 8 IDE to the application server without shutting down and restarting the application server. I have the latest versions as of today (7/26/2006) of the mail.jar and activation.jar archives. I've done everything I can think of to ensure that all references to java objects created as part of the mail send process are nullified and even called the System.gc() method to ask the JVM to clean things up. Still, the mail.jar is locked upon redeploy (I can tell because all other files, classes, web component, etc. are gone from the deploy directory except the mail.jar file, which is locked even from Operating System access.)

Huhm. Good question. I have done the following to get a good log file trace in case something is there:
1) Stopped the server.
2) Cleared out the server.log file (deleted it).
3) Started the server.
4) Deployed the application.
5) Ran the application code such that it sends an e-mail using the Transport.send(message) code.
6) Tried to redeploy the application (which won't because the mail.jar file is locked up).

my application is running. But when I run the jar file I get this error:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/transform/TransformerFactory
at de.cas.mercatorintegration.MappingTransform.mappingTransform(MappingTransform.java:66)
I think this is a classpath problem but I don't know how to solve.
I want that the needed jars like e.g. xml-apis.jar are also in the jar-file so I can deliver it as a whole to the customer.
All data files are in the directory 'de/cas/mi'
The libs are in the directory 'lib'
The manifest file looks like this:
Main-Class: de.cas.mi.Main
Class-Path: lib.js.jar lib.bsf.jar lib.xml-apis.jar lib.xercesImpl.jar lib.xmlParserAPIs.jar lib/xalan.jar lib/xerces.jar
The first part of the application works and the user interface starts. But when the first time a jar from the lib-directory is used then the error occurs.
I used this command:
java -jar Jarfilename.jar
Has somebody an idea to solve the problem?

Extra JAR's for Apache Soap w/ JDK 1.4.1

Hi Folks,
I've seen all kinds of confusing info about what additional packages you need to have available for the Soap JAR from apache.org to work with various JDK's.
Does anyone know what's required beyond the basic JDK JAR's that are part of 1.4.1? Presumably, I need pieces of the WSDP, but if anyone knows what, I'd appreciate hearing it.
Do you have to adjust the classloader so that Tomcat gets the right XML parser loaded (as I've seen mentioned in various places for earlier versions of the JDK)?

Y'all missed out on the Duke Dollars!
The full install of Tomcat 4.1.18 includes the following XML
Parser JAR:
jaxp-parser-impl.jar (found in $CATALINA_HOME/common/endorsed)
When I replaced this with the Xerces parser JAR from the Sun Web
Services Development Pack
jswdp-1_0_01/common/endorsed/xercesImpl.jar
The Soap server started up happily.
So, if you're using a recent version of Tomcat, that's all you need to replace.

Using 3rd Party packages when creating jar - program doesn't run

I am using the xerces and xom packages for xml etc in my program.
It works fine when run from a command prompt, but as soon as I package it into a jar I get the java.lang.NoClassDefFound error for the nu.xom.Builder class (one of the 3rd party classes.)
Reading through these forums has yielded several suggestions, none of which work.
I am probably making some massive stupid mistake, but cannot see it...
My manifest:

I too am reading forum messages to try to do just what you originally wanted to do. I have 3rd party JARs and I have always first extracted them and then turned around and JAR'ed them up into my single Remote.jar (actually I'm so new to Java that I don't yet change things that aren't broken and this was working when I got it)

jar cmf mainClassSpec Remote.jar *.class org/ net/ it/I am reading the forums for a way to NOT do this. My reason is because I want to make the application Java Web Start (JAWS) capable. By zipping all the JARs up into one I end up with a JAR over 6 MB! I am also adding internationalization and I really need to keep the ListResourceBundle classes in a separate JAR so I can keep adding languages and not cause the entire 6 MB file to be downloaded each time.
Using Java Web Start is the real motivating force here. I need to keep all JARs separate so that when there are code changes or new languages only one small JAR will be downloaded again by JAWS not the huge iReport.jar file at 4,218KB nor the somewhat smaller jasperreports...jar at 1,225KB (at 64KB jakarta-oro...jar is hardly worth mentioning) .
I will watch this thread to see if you or anyone else later comes up with the information to reference external JARs (while in a Java Web Start environment).
So to put it in a question format, can anyone provide some information about referencing external JARs in a normal environment and will it work in a JAWS environment (I do know the technique for specifing and downloading multiple JARs in a JNLP file)?

Jar Service Provider

I'm working on a project that uses Jakarta Commons DBCP. I would like to use Xerces as parser but somehow I always get the org.xml.sax.parser undefined error.
On http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/faq.html I found that I could use the Service Provider Mechanism to include other implementations.
1. The value of a system property like javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory if it exists and is accessible.
2. The contents of the file $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/jaxp.properties if it exists.
3. The Jar Service Provider discovery mechanism specified in the Jar File Specification. A jar file can have a resource (i.e. an embedded file) such as META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory containing the name of the concrete class to instantiate.
Does this also work with Xerces. I have the xercesImpl.jar on the classpath but it does not work.

I've been experiencing Java's version of good 'ole DLL Hell - the classpath.

I've got a proposed solution, but it'll have to come from the JVM vendors, and will require a standard, and like most retrofit solutions, it invloves a fair dose of upfront pain for us developers.
How would it be if ALL new versions of jar.exe enforced these rules:
1. Every jar-file packaged from now onward shall contain a jar.properties in the root directory of the jar-file
2. that jar.properties file shall contain at least these properties (with example values) jar.id=org.apache.xerces.2.9.0.006
product.id=org.apache.xerces

Hence and end to the ubuiqutios question "which one of these freeken 3rdParty.jar's (great name that numbnutts) do I need to add to get this version of com.clown.bobo.Foo.class AND that version of com.giligan.Bar.class?
And which of these three 3rdParty.jar's is the latest version anyway... A question which quickly devolves into
(a) google google google
(b) guess work and trial & error, and tools development (see previous thread)
(c) cursing ... lot's if this, it's good for the soul, at least it's better than autodefenestration.
(d) decompilers
(e) enlightenment; and finally
(f) Fix it you clowns!

at the end of the day, its the wrong CLASS file that you want to avoid.Yeah, another good point... so maybe it would better to get the compiler to build a date/time-stamp into each class, so you could compare two jar's actual content... it's not as user-friendly as a nice compact version file, but it can all be done "under the hood", without forcing developers to prepare yet another config file just to produce a freaken jar file.
And it's probably more machine friendly... I'm imagining a JVM with a classloader which could be instructed to use the latest available implementation whenever two (or more) implementations are present in the given classpath.. which I imagine would resolve about three quarters of classpath collisions automagically... and if the JVM is doing an exaustive classpath search anyways then I imagine it could print a MEANINGFUL error message something likeMethodNotFoundError: newDocument() is not defined in
d:\java\project\smis\lib\xerces2.0\xercesImpl.jar!org.apache.xerces.DOMParser.class.
Earlier implementations of this class where found in:
d:\java\project\smis\lib\xerces1.6\xercesImpl.jar
d:\java\servers\weblogic81\3rdParty.jarThat would have saved me the better part of 2 days!

After installing jdk 1.5 the problem is now resolved and after prefexing a few of the import statements with com.sun.
There are however some more classes as part of the Xerces 2.7.1 jar file as compared to the JWSDP 1.6 installed and this requires the xercesimpl.jar to be included in the classpath.

Need help finding jars to include

im developing an xml app -- i have my schema, ive used xjc.sh to create a bunch of binding, now Im trying to get my main test program to compile with all the xjc generated classes. At first I was getting about 100 errors so I figured my classpath was all messed up -- now Im getting about 42.
I have some output and my classpath below. My question is, having just created my bindings and only wanting to compile my small test program, which jars/dirs do I need on my classpath. Here it is now; apologies for its length:

You need to include the jar files from <JWSDP_HOME>/jwsdp-shared/lib as well.
If you own the machine, you can stick all of the JAXB and shared jars in <JAVA_HOME>/jre/lib/ext. I suspect that this is less "correct," but it sure does trim the length of the classpath.
