Xfce panel not reponding

Hi, I'm trying to use Xfce. When I start Xfce everything seems to by OK, but after a while panel suddenly stops responding. When I click on some task, the window does not appear or when I change workspace the panel does not reflect the change. Now I have to restart Xfce to fix that (but only temporary for a short time). Please help.
Thanks Uiii

You don't have to restart all of xfce, just the panel.
killall -v xfce4-panel
then restart it in a terminal to catch any errors
xfce4-panel
If you're lucky there'll be errors in the terminal when the panel becomes unresponsive and you can chase them down.

  • How to compile xfce panel with gtk3 support ?

    Hi,
    I checked in xfce panel git and it seems gtk3 support has been added but I am not able to install it with GTK 3 support.
    I tried passing --enable-gtk3 paramater in the autogen.sh file also.
    I am using xfce4-panel-git package after modifying PKGBUILD
    Am I missing anthing ?

    You can't solve problems when you're drunk Go ask your mom for a hug
    That's what you think.  I have a lot of brain storms when I've had a few (not all 12).
    And my parents are passed.  So I guess I need to ask my wife for a hug (however, she is at work).
    I want a hug now, not after 6pm.
    Anyway, I think, that you can move the panel if you uncheck the "lock panel" option. I just accidentally figured that out. Should have known the answer was something simple
    I did un-check the 'lock panel' box, and couldn't move that top bar (upon using the default).
    So as a I said, I removed both of the newly created panels, and redid them from scratch.

  • Huge icons in xfce panel system tray

    Hi,
    i have huge icons in xfce panel system tray for pidgin and transmission... Any idea how to fix it?

    Are you using xfce4-power-manager in xfce4?  I can see that it appears that you are using the xfce4 panel, but it is not clear that you are using the rest of it.  If you are, isn't it started by the .desktop file?  In those files you can specify the icon used, so you might be able to simply change it to something more common to most icon sets.
    Personally, I don't use icons or .desktop files, so I'm not sure that this is actually good advice.  But it is the first thing that came to mind.

  • Stopping xfce panel autostarting in xfce session...

    OK, I've looked OVER ALL THE INTERWEBZ for this one and I've found nothing, not even in this forum, unless I'm doing it wrong.
    I prefer to use pypanel over the xfce4-panel. I have pypanel autostarting when I log into my xfce session. Problem is is that the xfce4-panel also autostarts, and I don't want it to. The xfce4-panel doesn't appear in my "Autostarted Applications" list neither.
    How do I resolve this?

    Hi! When the xfce panel is running, I open up the panel manager, try to remove teh panel and get "You can't remove the last panel. Quit program?" So I do. But still the panel still boots on startup.

  • Organize XFCE panel !

    Hi,
    It seems very stupid but I really can't organize my XFCE panel how I want to... My top panel takes all the width of my screen and all the elements are stuck on the left whereas I would like only launchers on the left with XFCE menu and the time with systray on the right.
    But when I try to move the elements to the right, they immediately come back to the left (they are not locked) !
    I hope my explanation is clear ... If you could help me...

    Right-click the panel and add a new object. Choose a spacer (I hope that's the right term, my Xfce is German), let it expand and place systray and clock right to it.

  • [SOLVED] xfce-panel causing problems with mouse/touchpad

    Since upgrading the packages below  I mouseclicks occasionally do not work.  Also scrolling using the scrollwheel and touchpad doesn't start sometimes. I determined it is not a problem with the mouse or touchpad because 'xev' shows the correct events firing. Also  I see the icon change from arrow to hand when clicking.
    <edit>
    It appears that "xfce4-panel" is the cause. I use tint2 instead of  xfce-panel, but the process running an empty panel is started by default and  somehow interfered with mouse and touchpad events. solved it by removing it from the session, and comment it out in /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml

  • Xfce panels defaulting at boot

    Everytime I go into Xfce, there is a prompt asking if I want to use the default panels on the desktop or none at all. The prompt assumes that this is the first time I have started Xfce in my entire life. I have fully customized my panels everytime I get in just on the off chance that they save that time. For those wondering, I start SLiM with the rest of daemons and have it use Xfce from there. I am not quite sure where the config file responsible would be or even if there is one to blame. My ~/.xinitrc file says:
    exec startxfce4
    and I have removed the last bits of gnome3 (gross) which were causing previous, but now fixed, issues. All of my other applications are remembering their prefs except for whatever controls the xfce panels. What I find odd isn't that xfce can't remember my panel layout (or any other theme prefrences) but that it is starting from scratch at every boot. I was looking for solutions earlier and did find that there was a bug back in 4.2.something that would cause panels not to save but I have the newest 4.8. I did see something else about file permissions for ~/.config (apparently an xfce4-panel file). Just for giggles, I set it at 777 to see if that would do anything but alas, nothing. I can post my config files, just tell me which ones. The default panel layout and theme wouldn't be so bad except there is some awful looking dock at the bottom of my screen and the color scheme annoys me.

    ConnorBehan wrote:
    Something I tell all xfce users to do if they have session related problems is to clear out ~/.cache/xfce4 and ~/.cache/sessions. There is a checkbox besides the one on the logout prompt. It's in the "Sessions and Startup" settings dialog. There is also a tab in there that lets you manually save the session so you can see if any errors are thrown during a terminal instance of "xfce4-session-settings". Hell, while you're at it, see if any autostarted application could be screwing it up.
    I would say the relevant config files are ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml and ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml. As a hack if nothing else works, you could change the default to something more desirable by editing /etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/default.xml.
    Alright, I began with removing the ~/.cache/xfce4 and ~/.cache/sessions. I moved a panel and then logged out. Logged back in and first run dialog was back. I went to the "Sessions and Startup" box ( I don't know how I missed this earlier) and checked the autosave box. I also looked at the other tabs just incase but I didn't want to flip switches too much otherwise I wouldn't know what to do next time it happens. I logged out then in and still the first run dialog box. I went back to the "Sessions and Startup" box and forced a save on the session tab. A dialog box came up and closed pretty quickly, something about saving session. I removed a panel, logged out and then in, and that panel was still gone. Turns out I had to force a save for the stupid thing to catch on. Thank you.

  • Anchor links to accordion panels not working properly across browsers

    Hi everyone,
    I need some help to figure out why my anchor links  to specific accordion panels on another page are not working properly  across browsers.
    I have a Map page which has tooltips on  mouseover on the site markers. 15 of the tooltips have "Click here for  information" anchor links (although only 14 are currently linked) which,  in theory, would take you to the Nurseries page where the specified  accordion panel would be opened with the nursery entry appearing at the  top of the new browser window.
    Here are the links to the Map page and Nurseries page, respectively:
    www.alegriadesignstudio.com/RFRI/map_v6.html
    www.alegriadesignstudio.com/RFRI/nurseries_v6.html
    I've  tested the anchor links on IE, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari, and  have received varying results. In most cases, the anchor links worked  perfectly on two of the browsers, while on the other browsers, the  correct accordion panel is opened but the nursery entry does not appear  at the top of the new browser window. Anchor links using Safari and  Google Chrome fared better (10 out of 14 links worked properly, and  8/14, respectively), whereas when using Firefox and IE, only 3 anchor  links worked properly. The target audience for this website will be  using IE and Firefox, so I  would appreciate any help to figure out how to tweak the code so that  the most, if not all, anchor links work properly on these two browsers  in particular.
    Here's an anchor link which worked perfectly in  IE, GC, and Safari, but in FF, the entry did not appear at the top of  the new browser window.

    Here's a sample anchor link in which the entry did not appear at the  top of the new browser window in any of the 4 browsers:

Amabel, Bongolanon, Imamaling, & Manobisa; Magpet;        North Cotabato) and then  click on "Click here for information."]
    Here's a sample anchor  link in which the anchor link worked properly in GC and Safari, but the  entry didn't appear at the top of the browser window in IE and FF:
    www.alegriadesignstudio.com/RFRI/nurseries_v6.html?visayas=1#bilar
    http://http://www.alegriadesignstudio.com/RFRI/nurseries_v6.html?visayas=1#bilar [To access the anchor link on the Map page, go to the small island  north and a bit west of "Mindanao" which is called "Bohol" and mouseover  the fourth green  dot below the word "Mindanao" (Tooltip--LOCATION: Bilar; Bohol) and then   click on the first "Click here for information."]
    Many thanks in  advance for your assistance!

    Hi everyone,
    I'm still trying to figure out how to resolve the problem of anchor links to accordion panels not working properly across browsers (see original post for details). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve the problem.

    Are you talking about a custom workspace, or actual panels made with Configurator?  If the former, then go Preferences > Sync settings.  If the latter, then those Flash panels no longer work in CC 2014.  Check out any of the multiple threads about Extensions being greyed out.

    Het was mooi weer, maar vandaag regent het.
    Toch zijn hier in deze kamer veel zonnestralen, want het probleem is opgelost!
    I searched the whole evening for alternative but it did’t work with templates.
    With the js files the problem is solved.
    I don’t understand why the js file was not correct, because I just bought CS5.5
    Where do I have to put de file so the problem will not happen again when I make another site?
    Thanks a lot!

    Spry tabbed panel not displaying correctly in IE , in other browsers it is fine, what is the fix

    As an FYI: Adobe discontinued developing the Spry framework last year.  And Spry was removed from DW CC.  You can keep using Spry if you wish, but most of us have switched to other solutions that work better in IE10 and Touch Screens.

  • Spry Sliding Panels not working in IE

    I've been working for about 12 hours straight on getting this
    working correctly - my Sliding Panels just aren't working at all in
    IE. The panels load properly - for example, you can see only the
    first loaded panel, not all of them - but when I click a link to
    switch to the next, nothing happens. Firebug is reporting no
    errors, and neither is IE. Here is the relevant code:
    <head><script type="text/javascript"
    src="SpryAssets/SprySlidingPanels.js"></script>
    <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet"
    href="SpryAssets/SprySlidingPanels.css"></head>
    <div id="mainContent">
    <div id="panelwidget" class="SlidingPanels">
    <div class="SlidingPanelsContentGroup">
    <div class="SlidingPanelsContent" id="main">Main
    Content<br /><a href="images/news.png" rel="lytebox"
    title="Omgtest!"><img src="images/news.png"
    /></a><br /> <a href="javascript:void(0);"
    onclick="sp1.showPanel('series');">TEST</a></div>
    <div class="SlidingPanelsContent" id="series">Series
    and Models</div>
    <div class="SlidingPanelsContent" id="about">About and
    Bio</div>
    </div>
    </div>
    <script type="text/javascript">var sp1 = new
    Spry.Widget.SlidingPanels("panelwidget");</script>
    </div>
    The following might be somewhat related: I am using the
    Lytebox javascript library, which is a Lightbox clone (that doesn't
    use prototype), as well as a preloader for my mouseover nav bar,
    with this code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function init() {
    MM_preloadImages('images/menu/main_click-trans.png','images/menu/main_hover-trans.png','i mages/menu/series_click-trans.png',
    'images/menu/series_hover-trans.png','images/menu/about_click-trans.png','images/menu/abo ut_hover-trans.png');}
    </script>
    My nav bar links to the panels like this:
    onclick="MM_nbGroup('down','group1','Main','images/menu/main_click-trans.png',1);
    sp1.showPanel('main'); return false"
    However, a plaintext link inside of the first panel - "<a
    href="javascript:void(0);"
    onclick="sp1.showPanel('series');">TEST</a>" - does not
    work either.
    Just for fun I thought I would try adding min-height:0; zoom:
    1; to the CSS classes for slidingpanels.... no dice there as well.

    probably an amalgamation of many things, but it's resolved now.
