XFCE - Taskbar / Clock / "Window Buttons" plugin rotated by 90 degrees

Hello all,
Back then I solved somehow on XFCE 4.10 that Window buttons were showed properly, not rotated by 90 degrees on XFCE when I put the panel on the right side. Now I can't find it how did I do it and also can't find anything on Google. Any ideas?
As now my panel is on the right side, but the window swticher shows text rotated by 90 degrees.
Thanks in advance!

Change the Panel Mode to "Deskbar". Setting is located at Panel Preferences >> Display tab.

    If you use compiz fusion as your window manager, then yes. It has a realtime preview function (and has had for years prior to win7). xfwm doesn't.

  • Safari window just randomly rotated

    Hi
    My Safari window has just rotated through 360 degrees for no apparent reason as far as I can tell. I'm using a late 2011 MBP.
    Does anyone know why this may have happened? And, importantly, is this something I should be concerned about?
    Thanks in advance for any responses.

    ...would a web page be able to do this even if I wasn't looking at it at the time?
    If it was loaded in another tab, maybe. I'm not sure.
    Could there be something more sinister afoot?
    You can't get a virus merely by opening a web page, if that's what you're worried about. I can't be sure that you haven't installed some kind of trojan, but this seems to me a very unlikely thing for a trojan to do, since it merely alerts you that something is amiss without benefitting the attacker in any way.

  • Can't use mouse cursor to select windows buttons from XFCE panel

    The problem is weird but the behaviour is as follow: let say I have sultiple copies of the same software (Firefox, for instance) or when the software has multiple windows (for example Pidgin main windows and its other chat windows). Wwhen I try to click on the windows button on the panel in order to navigate to the window of such software, it won't work. nothing would happen. On the other hand, Alt+Tab works for switching to the desired windows. However, if the software only has one window running (for example, only one Firefox window) then the mouse click would work.
    It's a strange behaviour and I got this on both my PC which runs Arch 64 bit and my laptops with Arch.
    Anyone has the same problem?

    Inxsible wrote:Do you have conky running -- maybe that's covering the panel and eating up the mouse click events. Try killing conky and see if it works.
    Nope, thx Inxsible but conky's not running here.
    Right-click menu (minimize, maximize, etc...) works for each of the multiple entries, though.
    I just tried recompiling xfce4-panel 4.8.2-1 with no apparent error message or any change in behaviour... hm...
    [Edit] It seems like a bug's already been filed: http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7383

  • XFCE window buttons (tasklist) and multiple monitors

    I have dual monitors and each has their own xfce panel with its own set of window buttons. The window buttons have an option to display windows from all monitors, which I don't want, so I deselected it. The only problem is both of the window buttons display the window buttons from the first monitor and not the second. How can I rectify this.

    Hi, Rob, Andrew Wolfe here, now working at Interactive Data Corporation in Bedford MA.
    I filed some bugs or ERs on this some months ago from Oracle. With very large or multiple monitors, there is a fundamental UI problem with the Microsoft-originated "Multiple-Document Interface" model in which an application's document windows are all enclosed within a main backdrop window.
    As a longtime Mac user I have always been amazed that most Windows users work with a single document maximized in a single application window that is maximized over the whole screen. That is, Windows users actually don't use windowing; they use something more like screen swapping. JDeveloper (who knows maybe it's Swing too) buys into this big time by orienting the entire UI around the main JDeveloper window. The tabs and tab groups don't help this at all -- especially given that they always try to dock on you and maximize.
    Now Windows UIs have alway squandered screen space -- I'm sorry, does everything really have to have three levels of bulky tool bars? -- and so when displays were smaller (800x600 or less) this way of working made sense. In fact, Windows wastes enough space to exhaust a 1024x768 monitor on a single window.
    But when you get any larger than 1024x768, or when you add an additional monitor, that background MDI window is a complete waste, and document windows/tab groups docking and maximizing does not good whatever.
    PLEASE allow JDeveloper to run without this backdrop window. Let users move and size tab groups however they like. Preferably this would be a user preference, so I don't have to be CTRL-dragging all the time.
    Best,
    Andrew

    I found this from source code:
    tmp = netk_window_get_icon(win);
    if (tmp) {
    gint w, h;
    w = gdk_pixbuf_get_width(tmp);
    h = gdk_pixbuf_get_height(tmp);
    if (w != 22 || h != 22) {
    icon = gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple(tmp, 24, 24, GDK_INTERP_BILINEAR);
    *unref_needed = g_list_prepend(*unref_needed, icon);
    } else {
    icon = tmp;
    but i didn't understand! seems like it's scaling some icon. but I don't know what icon.

  • The window buttons (minimize, restore, close) don't operate, i have to minimize/restore from the taskbar for them to restore operation

    I explained the behaviour in the headline question. There is a thread about this, but it doesn't have the solution, and has been reported for FF13.
    This is FireFox 19, so it's been buggy, this is the 3rd support question I'm posting in the last two days. I've never done this before, but once, so it's not like I'm Mozilla Support fanboy, it's just that there are UI bugs that I have to deal each day, and there weren't these bugs before in earlier versions of FireFox.
    There's something wrong going on, I hope you fix this and offer a quick update, because however much love I have for the FireFox it's just not working. I'm not gonna switch browsers soon, but with these UI bugs I'm bound to do it, if it doesn't get fixed.

    I don't have ANY addons/extensions installed.
    I see that I will have to completely reinstall Firefox from the ground up, but I'll have to reconsider updating policy, maybe not allow automatic updates.
    This is not the first time an update has caused FireFox to stop functioning properly. And these UI bugs are really annoying, I mean window buttons not working? Lauch application dialog behaving as if it's in the background? And i didn't even mention that scrolling in the drop down lists isnt working also, cos I see there is no help for these bugs on this support forum, no matter how hard ppl are trying.
    Thanks for all the advices though, at least you took your time and tried to help. I think there's no cure but reinstalling completely and I hate when I have to do it, with no error on my part.

  • "X" window button does not quit Skype

    Hi all!
    There seems to be some minor malfunction in the way the window buttons on the upper right corner works: instead of quitting the program, it merely closes the window. This could be interesting, were it not for the fact that there is another button, traditionally used for minimising windows (the "_" button).
    Also, it seems that "close" from the menu also fails to quit the program.
    I'm sure that this mistake will be fixed shortly. If you need, we can probably help you to find the faulty link (it's most certainly a faulty reference, where "quit" has been erroneously spelled "minimise").
    Best regards, JJEE
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    This issue has been discussed several hundred times on this Forum. This feature is by design. The Close button doesn't shut Skype down but only sets Skype in the background. The only way to shut Skype down is by right-click on the taskbar or tray icon and select Quit.

  • [SOLVED] xfce4-panel: Window buttons w/ Compiz

    Hi, I've successfully done the seemingly daunting task of getting Compiz to work with XFCE. Everything appears to be set up, got my keyboard shortcuts in order, etc., however I don't like how the xfce4-panel's Window Buttons behave when running with Compiz. I have specifically set it to show only windows visible on the current desktop (or as Compiz calls it, viewports), but it looks like it still shows all windows from all viewports, as if like it treats all of them as one big desktop. I know this is a problem with xfce4-panel still thinking that it's communicating with xfwm, but I do like to resolve this annoying pet peeve. Are there any workarounds/fixes/patches for this that could help? Thanks in advance.
    Last edited by qtcaroline22 (2012-05-17 01:53:05)

    I made Compiz autostart with XFCE using the first method with the Fusion icon as described in Compiz's Arch Wiki article. Perhaps it is related to Xfwm and Compiz running together? I'll try the other methods and see if the problem persists.
    EDIT: I fixed it, I just followed the solution on this thread and everything works perfectly now. Seems like Googling with the right keywords will almost always point me to the solution.

  • After upgrading to windows 10 Auto-rotate and touchpad gestures does not work

Please find a solution for me.

    Yes. I found the answer here:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/HP-Envy-x2-13-j020CA-Windows-10-Auto-Rotate-Autorotate-now/m-p/5212887#M115445I've tried replacing the driver on Sdo Sensor V2 device with the Simple Device Orientation Sensor and rotation works just like it did on 8.1.For the record - Sdo Sensor v2 reports the device orientation continiously, and Simple Device Orientation Sensor reports it only when the orientation changes. Must be a Windows bug then.

  • [SOLVED] XFCE 4.8 mail watch plugin problem

    Hi. It seems like xfce4-mailwatch-plugin doesn't save the settings between the reboots. I was looking around a bit and checked file permissions in ~/.config/xfce4/panel and it seems mailwatch-18.rc somehow got wrong permissions between reboots:
    -rw------- 1 root root 415 Aug 7 16:25 mailwatch-18.rc
    I set the right owner and am about to reboot to see if it will happen again. Does anyone have the same problem? Do you know what is causing it?
    If it's not something Arch related, I will post a bug report on the mainstream XFCE bugzilla, but have to be sure first.

    After changing the permissions, settings file got erased. But I entered the data again, tried rebooting, logging off and on, and it seems it's ok now.

  • Issue with length of file paths - Windows & C++ plugin

    Hello,
    I've got an issue that just popped up on my OCR plugin I've been working on that I suspect is related to the length of the filepath.
    I'm getting the following error that is being caught and logged when trying to open a file (filename changed for security purposes):
    Error Opening File: D:\aVeryLongFilePath.pdf
    Exception info: This file cannot be found.
    The entire string, including the D:\ part, is 266 characters long. I cut down the length of part of the path one by one and it was able to open and OCR the document when the length was 259 characters.
    I know there's a MAX_PATH variable in Windows and/or there's some kind of limitation for file length. Note that I can open the file in Acrobat using File->Open and run OCR on it individually using the built-in Recognize Text function, but if I try to Recognize Text for Multiple files and choose "Add Folders", the file in question doesn't show up in the list of files to be batch OCR'd (even though it is there). Interestingly, choosing "Add Files" from the Recognize Text->In Multiple Files does work. So Acrobat itself has at least some issues opening the file using some of it's features.
    Here's how I'm opening the document:
         string pn;               // assume this is initialized, I'm just putting this here to demonstrate what type it is
         pathName = pn;
         ASAtom pathType = ASAtomFromString("Cstring");
         asPathName = ASFileSysCreatePathName(ASGetDefaultFileSys(), pathType, pn.c_str(), NULL);
         pdDoc = PDDocOpen(asPathName, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, true);
    Is there a way around this problem?
    Thanks.

    Yes, you are hitting the MAX_PATH on certain versions of Windows.   The only workaround would be to see that the file is "a very long path" and then break up the pathname construction into multiple pieces (perhaps the containing directory and then the file itself).  The other option is don't use Cstring to construct, use the Unicode variant.

  • Creating a "Boot into Windows" button/shortcut

    Does anyone know if there is a way i can create a "boot into windows" button for linux.  I would like to put it on my linux desktop, so when i need to boot into windows, i can shutdown arch and boot right into windows, without having to go through grub and all that stuff.  I have read something about qemu, but dont really know if that will work.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    I hope you are using ext3 ...
    IMHO if you are using ext3 your problem is solved, create 2 menu.list one called menu.list.linux and the other menu.list.windows, put the default entry to the desired one and take the delay down to 0 along with hidemenu command ( boot into selected distribution instantly.. )
    On linux create the following script
    #!/bin/sh
    cp /boot/grub/menu.list.windows /boot/grub/menu.list
    [[ -f /boot/grub/menu.list ]] || exit 1
    shutdown -r now
    Now go to windows, install Ext2 FS ( http://www.fs-driver.org/ ) mount the boot partition and create a bat script
    copy E:bootgrubmenu.list.linux E:bootgrubmenu.list
    i dont remember if u can reboot from a bat script but that will do the trick...
    P.S: yea i know, it would be better to use one script and use sed/awk to patch it, but how will he patch it on windows ? personaly i don't know how :oops: so I took the idea of 2 menu.list(s)
    I am using EXT3 and i already have the Ext2fs installed, so i think those 2 scripts should do the trick!
