Xgrid problem

Was using xgrid with a xgrid aware app, and eventually something must have gotton corrupted, even though I set no password, and try and connect within xgrid admin, it pops up a dialog wanting single signon or a password, and if I enter a password, it fails to connect.
Is there a way to reset this back to default? Just turning the xgrid service off and on does nothing and reboots do not do anything either. Don't want to have to re-install just to fix this, that would be a pain.. any ideas??

Hi, Norm.
I suggest you search or post your question on the Xgrid Computational Service Discussion.
I don't mean to send you somewhere else, but that's where Xgrid questions are answered and the Xgrid gurus are found.
Good luck!

  • Clearing PcP jobs and PcP to Xgrid problem

Does anyone know how to clear PcP jobs that have NOT been sent to XGrid. I'm having a problem with my installation. It had been working flawlessly (Bound to AD, joined to our Kerberos Realm, I could authenticate Podcast Capture using AD credentials, the job would complete and send the logged in user an email with the URL of the finished file.) All of a sudden, something broke (I was working on a new Workflow so I don't think I did anything.) Authentication broke as did Kerberos and now the jobs aren't making it to Xgrid for some reason (PcP and Xgrid are running on the same machine.) I've got it back to where you can authenticate and send a job to PcP from the client app, but it seems to be stuck there. PcP keeps trying to start an old job (and failing) and I can't figure out how to get it to forget that one and process the new one I just sent it. I want to clear out the old one in the hopes that will fix the issues I'm having. I think Kerberos is working as I can launch Xgrid Admin and authenticate with a Kerberos account to the controller. So I'm hoping things just look broken because of this old job. As I said, the job never made it to Xgrid, it's stuck in PcP and I can't seem to find a way to clear that process of its jobs. Help!?

That was my problem - the job never made it from PcP to XGrid. I'm having a larger issue though as for some reason my XGrid authentication is now failing. It doesn't appear the controller is visible to PcP (even though it is on the same machine) and therefore the jobs never kick off. I had everything working perfectly but then - poof - this problem popped up and I'm at a loss for how to fix it other than wiping and reinstalling the OS.

  • PCast Prod 2 and Xgrid problem

I've got a brand new mini server & I'm trying to get PodCast Producer to work (it did work for a while and then stopped). Both PodCast Producer and XGrid seem to start fine. PCast startup log indicates that all startup tests pass. The Server log shows "Xgrid is not available, watcher cannot perform Xgrid operations".
In Xgrid, the agent log indicates that it is connected to the controller, the controller is accepting connections from the agent.
I've verified the podcastxgrid user password is entered correctly in the Podcast producer settings. I'm kind of at a loss of what next. So far Google has just turned up a bunch of posts of people with similar problems, but no conclusive answers.

I first tried just running a job even though Pcast says it is unavailable. The job did not process. I created a new user with admin privileges and then entering that for the Xgrid user Name in podcast producer. The job I had submitted earlier then processed successfully!

  • Problems with Lion Software Update service

I just recently upgraded our Xserve to Lion server so we could start deploying Lion clients.  The upgrade seemed to go fine, but the Software Update service may end up being a deal breaker.  I can get Lion clients to connect to the server for updates, that is not a problem.  The problem is when Lion client says it needs to download additional software to run a program, in our case a Java runtime environment.  When it looks on the software update server it says "The software is currently unavailable, please try again later."  If I point it back to Apple it works just fine.  We need to have our clients recieving updates locally for bamdwisth reasons, but if they cant get the software that they need then it makes having a local SU server useless.  Anyone know how to fix that?  And on a side note the new Server app that is supplied with Lion doesn't list SU as a service, and I can't figure out how to add or remove the services.  Am I missing something?  Thanks.

To access many of the Server Tools in Lion Server you'll have to go to apple's website and download the Server Admin for 10.7 Server. This is the familar to 10.6.x server admin tool that apple does not include as the standard set of tools. Once you download it you'll have access to these additional services via the GUI:
    DHCP
    DNS
    Firewall
    Mail
    NAT
    NetBoot
    Open Directory
    Podcast Producer
    RADIUS
    Software Update Xgrid
    LJS

  • System Admin and Admin Problem...

Can any one tells me the different between system admin and admin?
It seems like system admin is messing up my file permissions, and it seems like system admin has more control than the admin (me)...
I had this experience today: everytime when I create a folder, the permission's gone under "system", I was not able to have any folder action nor create a new folder under it.
I search the forum with solutions and I think I've fixed it and it works fine now, but the permission is still not under my account name; it goes under "root" (system Admin).
Any one has a solution for this?
And how can I delete the system admin account?
    Thanks,
    Arnold

I input dscacheutil -q user in terminal, and I got this:
Would it help to solve my problem? :P I'm wondering if anyone has the same problem too?

  • Problem moving through CardLayout

    Hi,
I have been unable to find any solid examples of CardLayout, so I have been using some code I found in this forum. I'm getting hung up on how to move forward or backwards through the cards. I know it is myCard.next but for some reason I'm getting hung up on which card I should be referencing and how to associate that card with the code. Perhaps someone could spot the error...
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Problem in layout when scaling/resizing

    Hi,
Does anyone knows how I can solve present on the image?
    Here goes the detailed info:
    - What you see in the little window is a 3x3 XGrid (JFXtras), where I placed 4 black resizable rectangles that fill the cells where they are located;
    - The gauge that you can see in the center is from the MemeFX library ( [http://code.google.com/p/memefx/] ). If you don't know the library, the gauges were created in inkscape or illustrator and were exported to fxz files. In this example, the gauge suffered a scaling to 0.5 either in width and height using scaleX and scaleY vars;
    - In the command line, you can see the 3 bound types from the gauge;
    - In the javaFX code I tried to override the layoutInfo variable to see if the gauge layoutbounds changed, but my attempt was unsuccessfull.
The problem is that the gauge layoutBounds and BoundsinLocal are not being updated, causing the visible white space around the gauge, since the layout manager (XGrid) thinks that the gauge still has 280x200.84 px.

I already reduced the white space a bit by placing the gauge in a group, but the best solution was to eliminate the white space at all...

  • Problems Sharing Files Between iMac's

I've created a network between my to iMac's, and I'm using one of them as a server-
I've created a folder, inside "Public" folder and I've turn "File Sharing" on and done all that it said.
    Selected the folder, and everything.
When I go to my other iMac, I connect to the network with no problem, I see the folder but can modify anything from the iMac that is NOT the "Server".
I've check everything about the "read & write" at the bottom of the folder, and still doesn't work.
Can anybody help me ? I really need this working ASAP.
Thanks to all, and happy new year !!!
    Esmeralda
PS: It's better if I buy a external drive and use it attached to one of the iMac's ? Thanks.

If I understand this correctly. You are using file sharing to do this. And going to connect to server to get access. In file sharing while connected to your home computer they only have read only access. They can drag you apps. to their desktop and copy or modify it, but not on your computer. They can listen to your music . whatch your videos read your mail and use your printer or dvd drive. If you give permission to all. In file sharing there is an xgrid check off which allows users to work together on apps. If you check the xgrid and then the ? in file sharing it tells how to do this.

  • Podcast Producer and Xgrid setup - Jobs don't run

I've successfully setup an xserve here to be part of an OD setup, setup xgrid which is running successfully, and have Podcast Producer up and running and successfully running on the xgrid. However, when i open up podcast producer and go through the workflow process and submit, nothing happens except for temp folders stacking up in the podcast recording directory.
Only thing I could find was this error in the podcast producer logs:
Sat Nov 03 00:07:37 -0400 2007 -- Unknown exception while kicking off xgrid jobs: Fail to set key base: Base directory in /Volumes/Puma/Publisher/Podcast/Recordings/32E631A1-0B26-495B-B363-66FDDDDB233B /properties.plist

Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I was having the same problem until I looked at the specs for XGrid, it has to run on an Intel Mac. This is where you can get the specs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306737
Here is what is in the doc:
    Podcast Capture requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iSight camera (built-in or external) or FireWire DV camcorder
    Podcast Producer Server requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering requirements
Any Intel-based Macintosh Server or Intel-based desktop Mac (a Mac Pro, for example)
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) plus 512 MB of additional RAM per processor core
At least 50 GB of available disk space
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Quartz Extreme-enabled video chipset
Note: Quartz Extreme support can be verified in the Graphics section of Apple System Profiler.
Note: If a system is providing multiple Podcast services (for example, Podcast Producer and Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering), the system needs to meet both requirements.

  • Xgrid admin not recognising controller

    Hi guys
I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard (client not server, but thought best to post here anyway) and installed the updated server admin tools since the Leopard Xgrid admin I had was removed by the Snow Leopard installer. The new xgrid admin allows me to add the xgrid controller and password (and even gives an authentication failed message if I put the password in wrong) but shows the number of agents as 0 and lists no jobs. However, the command line xgrid stuff works perfectly - I can submit and retrieve jobs and use xgrid -job list as before. I didn't encounter any problems using the old version of xgrid admin. Anyone got any ideas for how to fix it?
Thanks a lot for any help,
    Matthew Denwood

    Oh no!
I think I have the very same problem.
I have a Dual G5 with 10.5.8 I'm using as my controller with XGrid Admin.
I'm able to add the G5 itself as an agent to its own controller.
I also have a Macbook Air (original) running SL 10.6.1.
I opened port 4111 on the controller.
When I run "xgridagentd" on the Macbook Air agent, it spits out a list of commands indicated that it has connected to the controller successfully. "xgrid a status" gives "running/enabled".
But alas, on the G5, in Xgrid Admin, I don't see the new agent.
Am I out of luck for now? Good shot of having this work if I go back to Leopard on the Air?
    THanks!

  • Many iChat Problems

I am trying to screen share with a friend, so I can help him trouble shoot some things. We went on iChat, and i invited him. We got error 22 I believe. I told him to go on sharing, then screen sharing, and allow it, and give me his information about it. He had vnc://Macintosh . I realize that this is not a valid adress, so I told him to go on terminal, and type ipconfig . I recieved his IP, but when doing command k, and trying to connect, it did not work. I asked him to go on Network Utility, and do a port scan.
All that he had open were:
    Open TCP Port: 88 kerberos
    Open TCP Port: 548 afpovertcp
    Open TCP Port: 5900 vnc-server
    Since I had:
    Open TCP Port: 22 ssh
    Open TCP Port: 80 http
    Open TCP Port: 88 kerberos
    Open TCP Port: 139 netbios-ssn
    Open TCP Port: 311 asip-webadmin
    Open TCP Port: 445 microsoft-ds
    Open TCP Port: 515 printer
    Open TCP Port: 548 afpovertcp
    Open TCP Port: 631 ipp
    Open TCP Port: 3031 eppc
    Open TCP Port: 3689 daap
    Open TCP Port: 4111 xgrid
    Open TCP Port: 5900 vnc-server
I knew something was wrong. I tried connecting with different AIM accounts for iChat screen share, I changed quicktime settings for optimal bandwidth, I unblocked all ports, and made sure he had too. I connected through afp, vnc, and his IP adress. It has never worked. He has been able to chat before, and so have I. We have updated our systems to 10.5.6, all software updates. He gets 1 MB per second, and I get 3 MB per second. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having many problems as well...here is my error code..what can I do to fix it?

  • XGrid and DVD Studio Pro

    Greetings all,
I've searched the net for an answer to this and couldn't find one, although I'm sure this question has been asked hundreds of times before. I just finished sorting through this forum as well and couldn't find a similar question. It doesn't seem like this forum is too active, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
I use Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) and DVD Studio Pro 3 rather heavily. We have four systems and may have a new addition soon. I'd really love to be able to speed up render times in DSP at the very least.
So far I've set up the grid. I used XgridLite to make one of the computers the controller. Through Apple Preferences I enabled Xgrid on the agent systems (including the controller) and pointed them to the controller system. The grid is password-protected, and all agents are set to receive tasks regardless of whether they are idle or not. With the exception of one system (the slowest one), all systems successfully joined the grid and are in "Available" status when viewed with Xgrid Admin.
I presume the grid is properly set up so far. When I try to encode with DVD Studio Pro, however, the admninistrator utility doesn't show any of the systems becoming active. Note that the primary encoding system was the same as the controller system - was that the problem, perhaps?
All systems are currently linked through a 100 mbps network. We'll soon be moving them to a 1 gbps network. I was hoping that the 100 mbps network would at least let me see that it worked, even slightly. I looked through DSP's preferences but I can't find any options about network encoding or tying into Xgrid. I presume that acting as a client to the Xgrid network is a function built into Xgrid-enabled programs (or scripts you'd write yourself).
Any advice? If anyone can say for certain that DSP 3 won't do it but that newer versions of DSP will, I can request an upgrade and probably get it. I'd rather not do that unless this will for sure work with Xgrid, and only if Xgrid will provide a reasonable performance boost.
    Thanks in advance!
    David

This post has received a number of views but no comments back, so I thought I'd give a brief update on my findings. Even though I've seen Xgrid as being marketed as something that could be used for media, it is the wrong tool for the job when it comes to Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and likely other media applications. What should be used instead is a program called Qmaster. If you have DVD Studio Pro 4, Qmaster is included in the "Extras" content on the disc. Qmaster allows for distributed work to occur through Compressor, which Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro rely on.
I have requested that my department upgrade to DVD Studio Pro 4, and may update with how successful it is. Otherwise, if you were like me and were looking around the internet for how to get this stuff working with Xgrid, stop and begin looking into Qmaster.

  • Xgrid: How to retrieve results before the job ends?

    Hello everybody,
I am using Xgrid and I would like to know how to retrieve the output files before the job ends (this is really important for my activity).
Indeed, from my own experience and from what I have read in the tutos (http://www.macresearch.org/thexgrid_tutorials_part_i_xgridbasics), it seems that the job must be done to get the output files. To "solve" the problem, I currently write to the standard output, which can be retrieved while the job is running by using the option "-job results". But of course, this is far from convenient...
    Any hint?
    Thanks.

    Dear Pavan,
thank you so much for your reply. I have further questions.
Most of the mentioned reports and transactions do not produce a table as a result, but some other result like a old fashioned list output. Just call reports RSTPTEST or SDCCHECK, or transaction ST02 to check this. Can you tell how to retrieve such results?
Regarding the Web Service, since we need this in some 4000 systems with different NW levels from 4.6C through 7.40, we need some functionality which is already existing in the systems. Is there anything like this available?
    Regards,
    Joachim

  • Macbook+iMac Xgrid Netowrks

    Hi there,
I'm thinking about getting an iMac and I currently own a Macbook. Would it be possible to create a network so that the iMac utilizes the Macbooks resources and even uses its display as an extension, like how is down with an extra monitor?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Xgrid does not require Server, any install of OS X can be setup to be the controller or an agent. The problem is you have to have programs that take advantage of XGrid, most do not. I use Visualhub and have used the XGrid capabilities between my MBP, my MB, and my iMac and it worked great but only when you have multiple files (it won't break files apart, it'll just send whole files to be processed). It doesn't just use the other systems resources for everyday stuff, unfortunately.

  • Xgrid admin error

I have been running xgrid to use a utility that aids in video conversion. It seemed to be working ok, but while trying to figure out why it seemed to never use all the processors available and jobs would be pending, something happened.
On my PowerMac G5, the service seems to startup OK in sharing, however when I startup Xgrid Admin, and add the controller, I get a dialog for single signon or password. I don't have the service setup to use a password, and then it it errors out because it cannot authenticate either way.
Is there a way to resolve this problem, some configuration files somewhere that can be cleared that will stop Xgrid Admin from trying to ask for authentication it should not need when adding a controller
Also, in relation to the problem that got things broken it seems, I was trying to use xgrid with a PowerMac G5 and A Mini with Dual Core. Does xgrid care when it does processor sharing to batch the jobs whether the CPU's are the same type, ie G5 to G5, or Intel to Intel, as opposed to my setup G5 to Intel.
    thanks for any feedback...

Might be the order of operations you're doing. I'd try dragging out the com.apple.xgrid.<whatever> property lists and working on both machines from scratch.
The processor types issue over a network depends on what you are trying to do. If you're running client applications on xgrid and they function w/o xgrid or are specific to that architecture then it shouldn't matter at all. What I mean by they function w/o xgrid is, are you dispatching to machines where there is an application that does the processing running capable of running w/o xgrid. The best way to tweak your setup is to read the manual for the product you are using .
    good luck,
    -j
