XI Implementation documentation

Hi All,
Before getting my team members into an XI implementation project, we would like to browse through some XI implementation documents.
where can we find related documentation, that we can use as basis during the project.
Our team consists of ppl from java background who got trained and xi certified from SAP.
Thanks,
Ganesh

Hi,
XI Implementation Methodology Worksheet
The steps (1) through (4) can be viewed as prerequisites. They can be completed before the XI system is even installed onsite. This will greatly reduce the implementation time. Typically these are also the most time-consuming steps of the project. Multiple tasks can be done in parallel. This should be reflected in the project plan.
1. Scenario Analysis
Description of the business scenario to be implemented.
What types of backend systems are involved (mainframe, SAP, etc.)?
Is this a new development or a replacement for an existing interface?
Deliverables
High-level scenario description.
Description of existing scenario implementation, if applicable.
Description of XI-based scenario.
Resources
Technical architect
Functional architect
XI product expert
Corresponding XI Activities
Create entries in System Landscape Directory, as appropriate.
2. Interface Analysis
Is the interface synchronous or asynchronous?
Does the interface require a technical or application acknowledgement?
For each interface, identify the outbound and inbound messages.
Determine data structures for each message type, as applicable.
Determine flat file format or database structure.
Determine IDoc / RFC / BAPI structure.
Determine XML data structures.
Provide data samples for each message type.
Deliverables
Inbound/outbound message structure definition
Data samples for each message
Resources
Technical and functional analysts for each system to be connected
Corresponding XI Activities
Create interface objects in Integration Repository.
3. Mapping Definition
Based on deliverables from Step 2, identify mapping rules between each pair of interfaces. This activity typically requires the involvement of business analysts who have knowledge of the business semantics of each interface.
Deliverables
Mapping specification including source fields, target fields, and transformation rules. Typically this is delivered in the form of a spreadsheet.
Resources
Functional analysts for each system to be connected
Corresponding XI Activities
Choose implementation technology for mappings (graphical tool, XSLT, Java).
Implement mapping based on business rules defined in Step 3 and interface samples and metadata defined in Step 2.
4. Preparation of the Environment
A test environment must be defined. If B2B integration (across the firewall) is involved, then network connectivity issues need to be addressed. This may include the configuration of proxies, reverse proxies, or other devices located in the DMZ.
Preparation of the test environment includes, of course, the installation and basic post-installation steps of the XI system.
If the scenario is to become productive, then a promote-to-production strategy must be defined and the XI environment must be replicated accordingly (i.e., DEV, QA, PRD).
Deliverables
XI system is installed.
Test environment is ready.
Network connectivity is established between XI and all participating systems.
5. Configuration
There are two parts to the configuration step: backend system configuration and XI configuration.
Prepare backend applications for message exchange. The backend systems need to be configured to send and receive messages to/from XI. This configuration must be such that the application can produce or receive data samples such as the ones delivered in Step 2.
Based on deliverables from Steps 1, 2, 3, configure XI objects in Integration Directory.
Deliverables
Backend systems are ready to produce and consume messages as defined in XI scenario.
XI system (Integration Directory) is configured.
Resources
Technical specialists for each system to be connected
XI specialist
6. Testing
The end-to-end scenario can be tested with different data sets. The testing environment has been prepared beforehand and network connectivity issues have been resolved.
Deliverables
Sign off on scenario.
Resources
Technical and functional analysts
XI specialist

  • Regarding SCM Implementation Documentation

    Dear
Presently i am woking on SCM moudles,
This is the first project in SCM...
Can any one help me the regarding documents on this flow....
currently on desigin phase of manufacturing and job orders.
which docs have to be made such as BR100 in financials.
    and
    We are using 11.5.10
    and process is discrete manufacturing....
Pls if any one has send me on [email protected]
it will be usefull for me to have good deliverables.
    Thanks
    Mujeeb
    Ksa.

    Hello
This question is very generic, if you pin point to specific phase of implementation, specific module you want to implement, than it would be easy for forum to put on some details for you
If you extract AIM Tool, you may get templates for various phases of lifecycle.
    Remember, THESE are TEMPLATES..
All you can do is standardise your documentation, however, content varies from project to project and business area to different business area,
If you need specific help, do not hesitate to get in touch with me on [email protected] and i will see if I can be of some help to you

  • ASR and OTV implementation/documentation

i am testing the implementation of otv using the asr's not the 7k's, the code just came out to support it. The config is different on the asr compared to the 7k's and i can not find any doc's worth while on the asr's, i have read the white papers which all refer to the 7k's but need some good doc's on the asr implementation. we are looking at using this to do the dr from one dc to the other, get away from sunguard etc......   the dc's are long distance, like US to Europe, can this operate in this environment, we are a global corp and i do have other dc's here in the US but would rather do it between our 2 biggest dc's, if there is a distance limitation please specify, i have dedicated oc3's between.  also i have read all the issues that others seem to be having with multi-cast or unicast over the wan, we are running on our own mpls wan which is not multicast currently, i have read about the aed function with the 7k's and assume this is the way to implement with asr's.....   one good drawing with correct config's would be greatly appreciated, have searched ccie sites on web, your site, etc.....    can't find anything really even worth reading, i assume i'm missing them somewhere......
thanks in advance for any help,
    jim

James, here's the current config guide for the OTV feature on the ASR1000 for IOS XE 3.5S
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios-xml/ios/wan_otv/configuration/xe-3s/wan-otv-confg.html
To run OTV on the ASR1000 today, you need a multicast enabled WAN for OTV Edge Devices to discover neighbors.   The alternative method of deploying on a non-multicast enabled WAN is known as Adjacency Server, and this is not supported in this initial release.
Regarding the question about distance limitations, OTV doesn't have such a limitation.   However, considerations for application/protocol performance over such long distances need to be taken (one way and round trip latency).
    I hope this helps,
    Ryan

  • Project documentation with ChaRM

We have a lot of project documentation from our implementation - this includes functional and technical specificatons.
When we enter our maintenance cycle I want to make sure that this documentation is kept up to date.
If, for example, there is a change request for an alteration to a report.  I would like that the original functional and technical specifications could be linked to that change request for them to be updated.  So that the change manager can see that there is documentation completed before confirming the change request & also that our implementation documentation is kept up to date.
    Is this a possibility?

I think I have now found the answer to my own question.
From Enterprise edition 7.0 the change manager can link directly to process information, such as implementation documentation, test case etc.
If you want to refer to documents within the CR you can use all documents already stored in the knowledge warehouse.
it seems that this is available through the "Customer Fields" tab in "transaction data" of a change request.

  • Partitioning Fact Tables -- experiences, notes, documentation

I have gone through section 3.8 of the OBIA Installation and Configuration Guide -- "Partitioning Guidelines for Large Fact Tables".
Frankly, I find that documentation inadequate and using a poor example.
I am looking at partitioning W_GL_BALANCE_F . In this table, BALANCE_DT_WID seems to be a Partitioning Key. With 24 months data and only Month-End balances I have only 24 distinct keys. Therefore, this would be a LIST PARTITIONING Key.
I can and have rebuilt the table as a partitioned table. And am proceeding with the DAC changes as per the documentation. However, I am looking for real world implementations, documentations, notes, experiences.

    Thanks.
Information like BUs, Companies, Ledgers etc from the source Financials systems are Dimensions when extracted. So they go into W_INT_ORG_D and W_LEDGER_D (for example) and the ROW_WIDs generated for the ORG_NAME and LEDGER_NAME is the join key to the Fact table (W_GL_BALANCE_F). So these might be partition keys but we'd have to identify the generated values (ROW_IDs becoming COMPANY_ORG_WID and LEDGER_WID) before defining the partition keys. That can be done only after the data is loaded ?.
How did you partition by BU ?

  • Implementing Shared Service Framework

    Hi,
We would like to implement Shared Services Framework offered by SAP. We would like to do all the configurations manually. Is there any best practice documentation available which can be used for configurations and running the process. We have already seen the best practice documentation of Rapid Deployment Solution. However, this involves best practice client installation. We do not want to install the best practice client.
Please suggest the link where documentation is available or suggest any other method to take this forward.
    Regards,
    Sanjay

    Hi,
Thanks for your valuable feedback. We are looking for implementation documentation in SSF-Accounting. In this area also there are no documents available other than RDS. Actually SAP is supposed to provide the relevant documentation for the new functionalities that they are introducing. Hence, we are finding out if anybody has got hold of any documents in this area.
    Thanks,

  • RE: Documentation with the help of ARIS or Solution manager ?

    Good day to all,
We have a documentation requirement from one of our client.
    The current situation is :
The client had implemented SAP about 5 years back but has no Documentation for the any of the Transactions, or any of the Zprogram that were created.
Now the requirement is to create documentations as well as need to relate it with a business Flow..
Currently their organization has ARIS as well as Solution manager.
How do we go about it ?. Any suggestions ?
Do they need XI to integrate it with ARIS ?
Please help me out on this one....
    Many thanks in advance

The first thing to find out if the SSM is connected to ARIS (ARIS4Netweaver). This enables you to have the processlogic in ARIS and the implementation documentation in the SSM. This data can be synchronized so that the documentation can be called upon in ARIS.
For the evaluation regarding the usage of transactions etc, this can be done via ARIS redocumentation. This gives a complete overview of all transaction used in relation to the existing (or sap reference) database in ARIS. it is not restricted to standard SAP transaction, but also custom build transactions/programs are taken into account.
SAP Xi is not necessarry forthe integration between ARIS and SSM.

  • Sync Project Documentation with General Documentation

    Hi Experts,
We are trying to utilize SolMan 7.1 for the documentation and configuration
We are following release approach for the implementation and as soon as Release 1 finish testing we will start Release 2. Now for this approach we decided below option in SolMan
    1) Create Template project for all processes and documentation
    2) Crate Implementation project for each release from Template Project. Copy all documents from  the General Documentation tab to Project Documentation. During the release-1 we are going to update the documents in Project documentation tab.
    a) Now question is how we going to sync all these updated document from Project Documentation to General Documentation?
    b) Is there any standard way to check what are the differences between the document in General Doc and Project Doc tab?
SA_PROJECT_UPDATE only checks what are new documents available in Project Documentation tab. It doesn't tell if the same document is updated in Project Tab.
Anyone has any other approach to handle this kind of situation please let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks in advance!
    Thanks,
    Shaun

I have done goods movement i,e Goods Issue  in CO11N.
But I  could not see Details in Doucmented goods movement.
I have done SPRO settings for the same in OPL8-Implementation-Documentation of Goods Movements.
Is there any thing else  to be done.

    Dear Raghu,
i think Backflush is not activated, just check in CO14, inputting the order number &

  • What additional OIM product documentation would you most like to see?

I first worked with with OIM when it was still Xellerate v7 about 7 years ago.
Despite attending the Thor training courses I found the product strangely impenetrable and often found myself in a position where I knew what I wanted to do but was unable to find any reference information or worked examples to tell me what the solution options were.
After several years working with the Sun and IBM IDM products I'm now back in the Oracle world and determined to master the beast this time. However I am still unable to find quality, solution-focussed documentation and am therefore dependent on (and very grateful to) the members of this forum who provide their support and help.
I'd like to ask therefore what additional documents would you really appreciate seeing in the OIM suite?
Whether you're a developer, technical or business analyst or customer representative please let me know. I will collate responses, post a summary and send feedback to Oracle for their consideration.
    Thanks,
    Bernie

The OIM documentation is uniformly awful. I think it's a cunning evil plan by Oracle to "encourage" companies to engage Oracle's consultants to do the work.
The writing style is really bad. There are paragraphs and paragraphs of really impenetrable text which you read six times and you still don't understand what they are trying to explain. Quite often all it would have taken to improve it was a picture or a concrete example. There are broken links in the docs, links to topics which the docs say will explain a term and it doesn't even mention it and references to documentation "books" that don't exist.
We're just starting the implementation process here and the biggest lack we're finding is a "Where do I start an implementation?" guide. This would be a "big picture" document containing a high-level view of what the options are for most of the common tasks that are needed when started out. It could cover things like what the options are for doing an initial load of users from an existing system and if you have to deal with multiple trusted sources are you better of using connectors to reconcile with each of them individually or could some magic be done with OVD that would simplify the process.
As a solution to the "where do I start?" question, I've seen suggestions in the forum that you should just get an installation up and running and then basically play about until you've worked out what you want to do. That's not a particularly scientific approach and makes it impossible to provide detailed implementation documentation and estimates up front for when the management wants to know when they are going to see some results from the product that they've spent a small fortune on.
The Oracle By Examples that I have looked at are pretty useful, but I could do with about 10 times as many of them. How about writing your own connectors in Java? How about to creating the organisation's structure as groups in OIM based on tables in a database?
A master index of all the books would be useful or at least the ability to search the complete documentation set. Having one place that had all the most recent documentation would also be a bonus.
There seems to be lots of basic configuration information missing from the documentation. For example, can anybody tell me where the documentation for configuring challenge questions for self-service password resets is? I've looked and looked and haven't found anything.

  • Sample Implementation Documents

    Hello everybody.
Please, do not get frastrated with this post. My appeal is the following. I need to develop a set of implementation documentation for Oracle UCM. Unfortunatelly I do not have any experience in writing documents for software implementation projects. I know, that implementation documentation usually can not be distributed to the third parties, but if you have any useful document samples for Oracle UCM projects, I think this can be useful for many of us.
As for the UCM I know the sequence of actions of what should be implemented and when, but somehow I am having a hard time in bringing it all together into one document and structuring it correspondingly.
