XI Instance Strategy - relationship to R/3

I am told that as soon as we start to use ABAP proxies between R/3 and XI, we can only have a single XI instance talking with that R/3.  Can someone confirm this and explain why?  My concern is that we have a number of potential systems that have a long-lived process relationship with R/3 and I do not want to have them drive my message storage on XI.
Also, what are the issues we need to consider when interfacing across many R/3 environments, as well as non-SAP ones, as far as number of instances of XI to have?

I'll only reply to your first question as I am not entirely sure what you mean with the others (feel free to elaborate).
Yes, an R/3 system (client) can only communicate with a single XI instance using proxies. I won't attempt to guess the reasoning behind this, but it is caused by the way things are configured in the SLD. Any given business system is associated in the SLD with exactly one XI instance (through the "related integration server" field). This information is used by the proxy framework <i>at runtime</i> to determine which XI server to send messages to.

Thorsten

  • Return value of inferred entity instance from relationship in SOAP Determinations

    Hey,
    I had an original thread open which indicates the problem I was trying to solve (Multiple Conclusion based on input values ). My rule base now behaves as expected and I can test it in the debugger as expected, only now I can't get the actual identifying values back I want using the determinations web service.
    I get a whole bunch of inferred entity instances back from an inferred relationship the same as the situation/screen shot at the bottom of the "Investigate an inferred relationship" page on the Oracle Policy Automation Cloud Service User Guide, but in my SOAP response I only get the instances with hashed IDs. I want the actual identifying value of the entity.
    e.g. Currently get this:

  • Siebel Instance Strategy – Single Instance or Multiple Instances – Advantag

    Folks,
    We are looking for any white papers on Siebel Instance Strategies. We currently have 5 Siebel individual instances deployed over last 10 years for different business.
    Is it a good idea to merge all these instances into one?
    May be merge to say 3 instances depending on the objects we are using?
    What are the challenges, organization structure, field extensions, column extensions, workflows, what should be looking at?
    To answer these questions are there any white papers? Any documentation on how to merge two or more production instances?
    Any input / pointers would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

For this, you can check the value of the parameter cluster_database is true or not? If its true, your db is RAC eabled and can use multiple instances. If false, you would have a 1:1 mapping of database and instance.

  • Understanding Symbol/Instance hierarchy relationships

    Hello
    I am looking for some insight into the symbol/instance
    hierarchy.
    First off what I have done simple enough is create a dynamic
    text field and convert it to a symbol.
    This symbol has an instance name of "symHeader".
    I then dragged an instance of that symbol to the stage and
    gave it an instance name of "instHeader".
    I was having problems populating it with what seemed like a
    logical approach:
    symHeader.instHeader.text = "blabla";
    with no luck.
    In looking at the object list in debug, it occurred to me
    that it should be:
    instHeader.symHeader.text = "blabla".
    This seems sort of backwards in the hierarchy of things.
    I figured since instHeader was and instance of symHeader,
    symHeader would be the first item listed, then drill down to
    instHeader.
    Can someone familiar with the symbol/instance hierarchy
    explain why this is this way, maybe I need to look at this in a
    different way.
    Thanks
    Scotty

    >> I then dragged an instance of that symbol to the
    stage and gave it an
    >> instance
    name of "instHeader".
    Then you just want to do: instHeader.text = "blabla";
    The first name you gave it - symHeader is just the clips name
    in the
    library. When you actually take the clip from the library and
    place it on
    the stage - then you are creating an instance of that clip.

  • App. Module and Instances, relationship, need help.

    Hi,
    Let me explain my situation. I created two instances, one from "APasesDati" VO and another from "LVAIKolekcijaDati" VO. Each of these instances have subinstances. So. One day needed to connect these instances with relationship, one to one, so that I can navigate between these instances in my jspx pages. For example, I see one instances third record, and when I navigate to another page, I need to see second instances third record. So I created ViewLink "APasesDati via LVAIKolekcijaDati_APasesDati". My task You, can see in the following picture, it is better to illustrate my situation, pleas see:

    If something is not clear, please let me know and I will explain You.
    Hope for Your help. Best regards, Debuger!

    In principle, there are only one way to do my task!? I can add LVAIKolekcijaDati via APasesDati as instance and move APasesDati child elements under that. Am I right? And if my jspx page is created from APasesDati instance and now I want to use my new - LVAIKolekcijaDati via APasesDati then I need to reecreate my jspx page from begining, or I can change something in my jspx page or somewhere else something that way I do not to recreate my jspx page and use LVAIKolekcijaDati via APasesDati in my page?

  • Dynamic creation of entity instances

    Hi,
    I create a custom function which dynamic create some entity instances and relationships.
    The base attributes of the entity intstances are filled with values. Running in debug mode
    with screens everything looks ok.
    Unfortunately the rules which operate on the entity instances are not triggered.
    Please help,
    Johan van der Graaf

    Hi Johan,
    as Davin mentioned it is really not advised to use custom functions to try to do this. What is the technical/business driver for doing this via a custom function rather than any of the other options that Davin suggests?
    The rules will be evaluated if there is enough information for it to be evaluated - the problem when you try to mess with the data set outside the inference cycle (which is what you're doing with a custom function to creeate entity instances) is that it doesn't know it knows the infromation - all it knows is the result returned from the custom function.
    At a high level: it's particularly awkward because you are asking it to set values behind the scenes - creating entity instances, properly setting up the relationships between those entity instances and then (I'd imagine) also populating the entity instances with their relevant values. You need to check that you are actually setting up all of those things properly.
    As I suggested before, you can see if it's a problem with the custom function not setting the values correctly or if it's a question of that need to make the engine know that you've added these values by going to the conclusion that you think should be evaulating in the debugger and specifically investigating it (right-click "Investigate") - you'll then be taken to the "decision" tab from where you can see what extra information the conclusion thinks it needs.
    If all of the data needed is actually already known then you'll get a result when you do this. If not then it will tell you what the extra information you need is and you can judge whether that's reasonable or because the custom function isn't actually setting up everything properly.
    If your custom function is setting everything outside the inference cycle then there are techniques you can use (basically relying on the result value for the custom function) to try to get the rule to evaluate, however these makes for some quite complex, non-intuitive rules which are awkard to maintain and the implementation of which often leads to people creating logical loops in their rules. It really would be best to look and see if there are other options availabel to achieve the same functional end.
    Have you investigated using the other options Davin has suggested? If so, we'd really appreciate knowing why you decided they weren't suitable as this will help us move the product forward in the future.
    Cheers,
    Sean.

  • Notification based on parent work item's status

    Good afternoon all.
    Would anyone know how it will be possible to send a notification for a manual activity reassignment but only when the parent work item (service request for example) is 'In Progress'? I know this is not going to be possible in the console so has anyone managed
    to achieve this within XML?
    Any pointers would be great!
    Thanks, Joe

    Unfortunately, what you're asking for can't be done out-of-the-box, even with direct management pack manipulation.
    There are basically two types of subscriptions: instance and relationship subscriptions. They can't be mixed.
    It is still possible to accomplish what you want, but it would require some development effort if you want to build it yourself.
    There are some 3rd party options out there since this has been asked for a number of times in the past.
    For example from a quick search, both
    http://www.carbon60.com/send-email-notification-custom-activity-for-service-manager/ and
    https://andrewsprivatecloud.wordpress.com/2012/07/02/assignmentre-assignment-notifications-using-sco/ use Orchestrator.
    It could also be done with a powershell-based service manager workflow if you don't want to use Orchestrator.

  • Is it possible to use a secondary index in embedded persistent class

    Hi,
    I'm new to Berkely DB Java Edition and have just started playing with it.
    To express a relation between two entities Foo and Bar, I am trying with an assocation class FooBarAssociation that is not an entity but rather a @Persistent-annotated embedded class in Foo (Foo has a collection of FooBarAssociations). Now I'm looking for a way to find all Foos associated with a given Bar id by use of an index. Can this be done? Is the use of the SecondaryKey in the embedded class at all correct? If this is not the way to go, can it be done any other way (except from using three entities)?
    @Entity
    class Bar {
        @PrimaryKey
        private int id;
    @Persistent
    class FooBarAssocication {
        @SecondaryKey(relatedEntity=Bar.class, relate=Relationship.ONE_TO_ONE)
        private int barId;
    @Entity
    class Foo {
        @PrimaryKey
        private int id;
        private Set<FooBarAssocication> fooBarAssociations = new HashSet<FooBarAssocication>();
    }Any help much appreciated.
    /Martin Söderström

    Martin,
    So could this be done with the embedded persistent class like this, or should I give up and make the FooBarAssociation class an entity of its own?A separate relationship entity class will definitely work, as described in the SecondaryIndex javadoc.
    But SecondaryKey fields have to be at the top level of an entity class, so an embedded class that contains the secondary key (and other attributes) won't work.
    Logically, you have a one-to-many relationship from Foo-to-Bar, and the relationship has attributes.
    If you store the relationship in the Bar entity, then it's pretty easy because there is one Bar instance per relationship and other attributes can easily be stored there. I know you said you want to put it in the Foo class because it logically belongs there, but I'll show this alternative anyway for completeness:
    @Entity
    class Bar {
        @PrimaryKey
        private int id;
        @SecondaryKey(relatedEntity=Foo.class, relate=Relationship.MANY_TO_ONE)
        private int fooId;
        private Date createTime;
    @Entity
    class Foo {
        @PrimaryKey
        private int id;
    }If it's really important to put the relationship fields into the Foo class, then you can do something like the following. It's messy to attach relationship attributes, but it can be done with either a parallel list or map.
    Also, be sure to read the "Key Placement with Many-to-Many for Related Entities" section of the SecondaryIndex javadoc page.
    @Entity
    class Bar {
        @PrimaryKey
        private int id;
    @Entity
    class Foo {
        @PrimaryKey
        private int id;
        // Use one of the following, either this:
        @SecondaryKey(relatedEntity=Bar.class, relate=Relationship.ONE_TO_MANY)
        private List<Integer> barIds = new ArrayList<Integer>;
        private List<Date> barCreateTimes = new ArrayList<Date>;
        // Or this:
        @SecondaryKey(relatedEntity=Bar.class, relate=Relationship.ONE_TO_MANY)
        private Set<Integer> barIds = new HashSet<Integer>;
        private Map<Integer, Date> barCreateTimes = new HashMap<Integer, Date>;
    From reading the documentation I also get the feeling that I could use the Base API and set up a SecondaryDatabase to create a secondary index for a case like this (correct?).Yes, you could do that, but I would hate to see you move to the base API just for this issue. The DPL is much easier to use (and easier for us to support).
    Anyway, so far the BDBJE looks very promising to us. It may replace our current Hibernate solution.Great. We'd love to hear more about what you're doing, why JE works well for you, etc, either on the forum or privately if you prefer (mark.hayes at o.com). It helps us a lot to know what people are doing with JE.

  • SLA Notify Support Group on Breach

    Hi
    Has there been any further updates to the issues outlined in this article http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2012/02/07/notifying-before-sla-breaches.aspx as it is a fairly basic requirement to be able to notify support group managers
    when a work item breaches its SLA. Other posts which have suggested using the incident class on a notify periodically subscription when sla status = breached are not really appropriate as these fail when more than 1 SLA is applied to a work item (for example
    when first assigned and resolution time are used) and using orchestrator isn't really a suitable solution for this problem IMO.
    Considering some of the other issues that have been fixed so far I would have expected this to be fairly high on the list.
    Thanks

    First Question: Why don't you think that Orchestrator is a suitable solution to the problem?  I think I could build an SCO runbook to do what you want relatively easily.
    That said, I think I've found a solution that works, with one caveat.
    Notification Template:
    Create your notification template targeting the Incident Class instead of the SLA instance information class. As part of that template, you can access the Work Item Has SLA Instance Information relationship, where you can add information about the SLAs to
    the email template, such as status and display name.  This is where the caveat shows up. If you have multiple SLAs applied to an incident, and you add SLA Display Name to the email, then it shows all the SLA names, separated by ";". So there is no good
    way to distinguish exactly which SLA went into a warning state.
    Notification Subscription:
    Lets assume you want to notify different managers for different support groups. We need to create a subscription for each support group. Create a notification subscription targeted at the incident class. Set it to periodically notify when objects meet a
    certain criteria. For the Criteria:
    Support Group equals <support group name>
    Work Item has Service Level Information Status = Warning
    Then specify the manager to notify.  I've tested this in my environment and it works.
    There are extra steps you could go to, to allow the user to know what SLA was in a warning state. Create an notification template for each SLA, and include the SLA name hardcoded in the template. Then add a third criteria to the notification subscription:
    Work Item has Service Level Instance Information Display Name equals <display name of SLA>
    and create a notification for each SLA.

    A purchase order 100001 is creates and a release strategy s1 is applied to it which is a 3 level relase statrgy having release code c1,c2,c3 which are uniquely assigned to user/employee of the company and no 2 users'employee can have the same release code.
    Now when c1 release the purchase order a work item should be created to for the user/employee who is assigned the c2 code.
    Currently this workflow is not implemented in our company adn the relase stategy is handeled by authorization oobjects and when ever a po user relase the po he calls up the other persona next in relase strategy to notify him about the work he has to do .
    I am need to know can we develop a relationship b/w the release code and sap user or employee

  • Adding a "In Relationship" install base instance to a Repair Order

    Hi,
    When we try to add an install base instance to a Repair Order in Depot Repair, I'm not able to add a line for a unit that has an usage of "In Relationship". I checked the SQL and Depot Repair is not able to add such units.
    We're able to return a unit that has an usage of "In Relationship" from Order Management as well as Service Request. Is there a way this can be done in Depot Repair.
    Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Madan

    I'm not sure the need is as obvious as you suspect.
    The first problem I come to is "which user?". If the Service Request has 10 activities steps, from 10 different users, which of them is the Service Request Completed user? The only way this would be informative would be the rare service requests that have
    no processes and must be handled manually, in which case the real fix is to create processes for these service requests so they don't need to be handled manually.
    As to setting this: there's two big options:
    the way this is set for Incidents is by the form controls. If you were to replicate that behavior, you'll probably want to add a custom control to the form that sets the completed user to the current console if the status has changed to completed during
    that session, which is a lot of real SDK development work.
    Alternatively, you could use a workflow that triggered on the status being changed from anything else to completed, and set this value based on the last user to edit this SR. I'd recommend doing this with a
    custom workflow in PowerShell, but you could use Orchestrator, C# workflows, patrol scripts, etc.

  • SCSM 2012 Relationship between Incident and Service Level Instance Time Information

    Hi,
    I am using a runbook similar to
    this one, but am getting many different Incident relationships.
    For testing, I want to initiate the runbook not with a Monitor Object looking at the Service Level Instance Time Information class, but manually with an Initialize Data action.
    Can someone advise how to do this? What 'GUID' does the Monitor Object look at and pass on to the runbook?
    Or perhaps a powershell snippet that shows how the relationship works...
    Thanks,
    Joe.

    Try this:
    SELECT dbo.MTV_System$SLA$Instance$TimeInformation.BaseManagedEntityId, dbo.MTV_System$SLA$Instance$TimeInformation.DisplayName,
    dbo.MTV_System$SLA$Instance$TimeInformation.StartDate_6F33A83B_41D9_A782_379E_A75CA15145F3,

    dbo.RelationshipView ON dbo.MTV_System$SLA$Instance$TimeInformation.BaseManagedEntityId = dbo.RelationshipView.TargetEntityId INNER JOIN
    dbo.MTV_System$WorkItem$Incident ON dbo.RelationshipView.SourceEntityId = dbo.MTV_System$WorkItem$Incident.BaseManagedEntityId INNER JOIN

    dbo.MTV_System$SLA$Instance$TimeInformation.Status_F632EA19_0367_CC81_BCB5_5E0387B1B5E3 = dbo.DisplayStringView.MPElementId
    WHERE (dbo.RelationshipView.IsDeleted = 0) AND (dbo.RelationshipView.RelationshipTypeId = 'ba08f9bb-85c7-20d8-05e3-0035938cddd5') AND
    (dbo.DisplayStringView.LanguageCode = 'ENU')

  • Instance number strategy

    I am interested in developing an instance numbering strategy and would appreciate feedback from anyone who has developed a tested numbering scheme.
    I work at a large installation with dozens of SAP instances including CI, app servers and Web Dispatchers.  Since most of the these systems are on separate servers or virtual containers, there has been no conflict with ports if the system numbers are the same.  Going forward, we are facing installation of additional DEV and QAS landscapes and I want to choose instance numbers wisely since they aren't easy to change.
    Also, Adaptive Computing provides the ability to move instances to different hosts easily but only if the the instance numbers are unique to prevent port conflicts.
    Are there any other technical considerations beside duplicate ports when choosing system numbers?
    I would appreciate any feedback about your number rules or polices.
    Keith

    I do not know how much of this will help you, but this is the strategy that we follow
    We have 150+ sap systems running on different servers without any virtualization, In come cases we have as many as 15 instances (dailog, CI etc) on same server, so the port numbers have to be different for all the systems to work
    This is what we follow
    1) Each SAP system will have a different number uniqiue.g 01, 02 , 03 etc ( All instances of the system like dialog, CI should use the same number) . In cases where SCS comes into picture two numbers get assgined to the system
    2) Production systems have a different number range (as they are on a seperate set of servers)
    3) One physical server will not  host more than more instance of the same system
    4) CI and dialog instances are always on seperate sets of servers
    5) Before installing a new system the system number has to be assigned from a common system number repository.
    6) When the system gets deleted the system number is cleared for re-assginment in the system nuber repository

  • Creation of relationship instances using Java

    Hi,
    I have the same problem as described in this thread: Creating a Relationship between 2 PublicObjects needs admin privilages
    Because nobody answered the original question, I post mine now:
    I am trying to create a custom relationship between two iFS documents. I follow exactly the procedure described in the developpers guide of Oracle 9iFS (9.0.1). It is nowhere mentioned that administrative rights are needed to instanciate relationships. However this is exacly the compaint iFS is sending back to me: I must switch to administrative mode before creating the relationship between two objects.
    I guess I am not the second people trying to instantiate relationships in iFS. Is it a policy, property or ACL problem ?
    Is there a workaround for this ? Unfortunately, I have no admin session available at the time of the relationships creation.
    Thanks,
    Tristan

    I finally managed to create relationships without switching to administrative mode.
    The clue is in the "<oracle.ifs.beans.PublicObject>.addRelationship" method.
    The code on page 6-52 of the Developer Reference of iFS 9.0.1.1.0 describes how to relate two objects po1 and po2 with a relationship.
    po1 is set as the left object and po2 is set as the right object.
    rdef is an object describing the to be created relationship.
    The last statement is:
    Relationship r =(Relationship) session.createSystemObject(rdef);
    This is what I used in my code and was not working. Now, I am using the method "addRelationship(rdef)" to create relationships (described in the JavaDoc), and that one is working as expected:
    po1.addRelationship(rdef);
