XMII & SAP Related

Hi All,
When I execute a transaction in SAP, the system shows several information and warning messages (some on the menu bar at the bottom and some through pop-up windows) before finally executing the transaction. On the other hand, when I execute the same transaction using xMII through a BAPI call, I do not get any information or warning messages. I get the final output message. Can somebody explain how to go about this? Thanks.
Regards,
V M.

Venki,
The key input to that BAPI is not necessarily the Confirmation #.  The confirmation # is set in SAP and tied to the order number and operation step (in most cases).  You can leave the confirmation number blank and use the Order number and Operation number as the inputs.  SAP will figure out what the confirmation number is from that information.  When you have executed the BAPI successfully, it will return the confirmation number and counter (to account for multiple partial confirmations).
A custom BAPI is not required, just better knowledge of how the standard ones behave.  Spend some time with the BAPI or SE37 transaction in SAP seeing how they work before building anything in MII.  Once you have it working there, then build the transaction.  But remember that both the BAPI and SE37 forms take care of pre-pending zeroes to the front of Order numbers (and batch, material, etc.).
A custom BAPI is not a bad idea in general.  They usually are simpler, smaller, and a little faster.  But make sure you really need it before spending the time building it.
Good luck,
Mike

  • Hi friends,  IDOC and RFC are sap related.but idoc is in abap stack rfc is

1)IDOC and RFC are sap related.but idoc is in abap stack rfc is in java stack.what is difference between two.?

    hi ganga,
The IDoc adapter is used by SAP systems to connect to a centrally configured Integration Engine using IDocs
which is properitory to SAP integration
so it doesn't need the Adapter engine.
    refer:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ab/bdb13b00ae793be10000000a11402f/content.htm
The Adapter engine is working on the J2EE Engine.
RFC Adapter is provided by the AdapterEngine.
So RFC needs Java Runtime where IDoc doesn't.

  • SAP related funny incidents in real life

    Hello all,
I have heard a story about  two gentlemen who were some sort of Functional consultants travelling from the US to Germany.
Just to pick up a conversation , they have started discussing about the Bills of materials and stufff related to that.
In the process what they did not realize is that they were abbreviating it as BOM, which sounded pretty close to a BOMB.
One of those ultra cautious post-9-11 syndrome stuck Air Crew, found something fishy about the term and these two gentlemen and they have detained them from the flight and took them for a grilling session.
They have let them free only after confirmation from a SAP Expert that there indeed was a concept called BOM in SAP and was no way related to anything explosive...(Although we tend to say "Explode the BOM"..:)
Share if you have any such SAP related fun incidents..:)

I found it funny. I'm probably not the only one. So that's how it can be a funny incident.
What i don't find funny - only worrying - is your response. What is mad in today's world is the response to the 'terrorist' threats. One man's terrorist has always been the other man's freedom fighter, and sometimes the opinion changes over time. When USA supported Taliban and gave them Stinger rockets to take out Russian helicopters the Taliban were freedom fighters. Some years later they were suddenly terrorists because it was no longer Russian helicopters they were shooting at. Confusing, isn't it?
What is frightening is how half the world let themselves fool into believing that dropping a huge bomb from 10 000 metres above someone's head, killing 200 civilians, is less of a terrorist act than using a small bomb in a car which kills 35 civilians. That's scary and shows how easy it is to manipulate the people. A certain German ridiculed in a movie called [The Great Dictator|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Dictator] did that with a lot of success. Politicians today do it as well - apparently also with a lot of success.

Reading this again, I now see that perhaps Ravi was not so much saying that one can not make jokes about terrorism as saying that it can't be much fun being detained at the airport. I agree with the latter.

  • Search Page to All SAP-related Sites

    General point:
I have created a web page that searches relevent SAP-related sites on the net.
    <a href="http://www.allthingssap.com">www.allthingssap.com</a>
It's a nice way to narrow your search from the start and not get a bunch of junk in the results. The sites it searches are listed on the entry page. If anyone would like another site added email me (from the contact us link on that page) and I'll put it on the list.

    Senthil,
there is a fine manual you can read online (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_xmii115/helpdata/en/index.htm) which has a section called "SAP xMII Overview".
Even the most basic marketing materials will answer your question - take a look at the above or at www.sap.com.

  • Big number of files (physical + logical) opened by a SAP -related job

    Hello,
We are implementing SAP ECC 6.0 on IBM System i (iSeries) 9406-550, i5/OS V5R4.
SAP is implemented on sub-system R3_00, and the different SAP processes are served by OS/400 jobs : WP00, WP01, WP02,…etc.
The noticeable thing is that since the very beginning of the working day, the number of open files (Physical + Logical) opened by one job (e.g. WP00) is extremely big (900 – 1000 files), and it remains big during the whole day; i.e. it varies by a small extent.
The question is : is this a natural behavior of SAP, or is there something that we are missing that causes the un-necessary files to be closed after the relevant requirements are fulfilled.
The problem with the huge number of files opened by a job is that the big number of file  ODPs exhausts the memory extensively, the thing which causes the memory faults to be high, thus impacting negatively the system performance.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
    Best regards.

    Hi Reda,
that is exactly working as designed ....
Yes, the memory utilization is not too low because of that but on the other hand, it would be very expensive to close and open over and over again ...
So, you have to deal with this somehow.
The following is the default setting, that is active on your site as well: (You should be able to see these values in the dev_w0 etc ...)
    ODP Threshold:
    dbs/db4/odp_threshold     =          800
    ODP Commit Threshold:
    dbs/db4/odp_commit_threshold     =          810
    ODP Open Threshold:
    dbs/db4/odp_open_threshold     =          850
(This is true even when you experience 900-1200 - this is just a "mis-adding" more or less ...)
If you are really interested in: Try to change these parameters - but that is on your own risk, I do not have good experience with that ...

  • Auditors.......not SAP related

Hi all we have the auditors here at work at the moment and they are hassling me with security logs.
We use AIX 5.3 and MAXDB 7.6
    This is what they say:
Basic security logs need to be enabled like successful and failed logins etc. In addition business critical data needs to be identified and logs on those specific tables need to be enabled to ensure that any manipulation at the database level is addressed. Please bear in mind that we are only concerned with user accounts that are used by people to log directly onto the database.
So where are these logs kept, and keeping in mind that SAP has over 70 000 tables how am i going to identify the tables that need to be logged and how would i enable logging on those tables.
Can this even be done ?

    > What 3rd party tool can be used to monitor direct and log direct access to the database and if tables are changed directly
    > or
    > Can i use a trigger to write to a log if tables are modified
Sorry to tell you, but both  option are unfeasible.
There is afaik no 3rd party tool that provides this kind of information for MaxDB.
Honestly, also I do know quite a bit on MaxDBs inner workings, I don't see how a 3rd party tool should get this kind of information properly.
No, auditing has to be build into the database otherwise it's useless.
Concerning the trigger-approach think about it would be if you implemented this:
    1. You'll have at least one trigger per table - that's thousands of them which might make catalog accesses a bit slow.
    2. Since you want auditing, you would need to write to a log table for every change of data.
That means for every one row changed you'll have at least one row inserted to your logging table.
This will most definitively create severe performance issues.
    3. Selects wouldn't be logged as Selects don't fire triggers
    4. The only DB account that can access the SAP schema tables is the SAP<SID>.
Therefore everybody who would like to access those tables would logon as SAP<SID> and in your logs you'll find that SAP<SID> accessed your data.
Currently (in the current MaxDB releases) there's no way  to find out the os-user that logged on to the database. This is a functionality to come in later releases.
So, sorry to tell, but with MaxDB you've to secure the access to the database in a way that no unauthorized person can access it via SQL.
    regards,
    Lars

  • SAP GUI 7.2 Crashing after server selection

    Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with one of our users. It has been working fine before. Windows 7 32bit. Whenever she selects a server to log in to it just closes out SAPGUI. Any idea on why this is doing that? I would rather not reinstall the OS on the machine.

    Hello Jun,
You may be lucky if it installs.  By the time Windows 7 came out SAP had de-supported SAP GUI 7.20.  The SAPSetup.exe release may not be able to recognize any recently updated Microsoft OS DLLs necessary for installation.
However, I would recommend you check the services file to ensure the necessary ports are correct and that either your local firewall or network firewall isn't blocking any of these ports.  This should clear up the error: "Cannot connect to message server".
I can also see there is a permission issue with open, write read with %sfile.  Can you ensure this has administrator permission's or permitted to do these activities.
    Cheers,
    Dan Mead

  • SAP* and DDIC password is not working in Cleint 000

    Hi,
I have Installed ECC 6.0 IDES Server on Windows 2k3 with Oracle database. First time i was able to login to 000 client with SAP* (default pwd) and did some post installation steps. Now the password is not working.
    I tried the following:
    Go to cmd prompt.
    Sqlplus /nolog
    conn /as sysdba
    sqlplus>UPDATE SAPSR3.usr02 set uflag=0 where mandt='000' and uflag=128;
All the SAP users were Unlocked.
    Then i tried delete command.
    sqlplus>DELETE SAPSR3.usr02 where mandt='000' and bname='SAP*';
    it says " 0 rows deleted "
    Parameter login/no_automatic_user_sapstar= 0 is set.
Then Restarted the SAP server and tried logging with password pass it says user and password incorrect.

    Hi,
As I have given in the earlier pls go through that link.
And also ...It is good practice to put back the automatic sapstar to 1 as this will not allow other to use same way as sap* /pass and log into the client.
The first thing is like create one more user in the 000 ,and also other super user incase if you have to use 000 with super user and have your own mechanism like have cutomised program and tcode with which you can activate 000 super user and use some thing like this...or it is only known to SAP BAsis Administrator.etc..
And also do not work on 000 for regular development or prd work make a copy of this client and start using them .
This has to be used only for Support pack other SAp related activities.
The first step after installation is to make a copy of these refrence clients. And start using them.
Secondly create the sap* usermaster in 000 and remove profiles .
And enable parameter login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to 1.
with this we are securing the super user from misuse.
Incase of emergency you need to delete the sap* user master from Oracle level then activate the prifile parameter and the loginto the 000 client using sap*/Pass.
    Hope this helps.
Get back if you need more information.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There is problem with SAP Business One date source.
I had faced same problem, I used OLEDB Data-source, and it worked fine for me.
    So, try to use OLEDB.

  • What is the best way to build a career path where I can evolve into an SAP role instead of one that is Customer Service based?

In October 2011, my previous employer converted to SAP, as the rest of the worldwide entities were already using SAP. At that time, I was an Order Coordinator, where my job role was to process all of the Inside/Outside Sales Representatives orders for the US. Because of my keen attention to detail, the speed in which I learn new roles and general IT knowledge, I was asked to be the SAP SuperUser for our Financial Operations team. I quickly began to learn the roles of Order-to-Cash, Customer Master Data, Pricing Conditions, Contracts, some Material Master Data, and even Customer/Material Pricing Audits. I also performed manual customer billing in SAP until the automatic modules were implemented. Knowledge of these roles created a need for me to become a trainer to my team, where the SAP Consultants left off. After only working in SAP for the few months after the conversion started, I evolved out of an Order Coordinator rights of access and was given a not-so-typical role as an "analyst". I had more than a firefighter role in SAP, as my normal log in credentials gave me full rights to all of these modules and even special reporting. Our parent global company realized necessity for my role and followed proper protocol to authorize the access changes to still meet the SOx regulations. Prior to using SAP, I never thought I'd fall in love with it and enjoy my job so much, but it happened! Despite my previous employer's less than perfect data that was copied into SAP, we managed to have an efficient ongoing process to clean it all up.  I became more of a liaison between Financial Operations and our IT Dept/SAP Consultants. I "translated" the technical steps that IT/SAP Consultants were trying to teach everyone and trained my Financial Operations team in a way they would understand. I truly enjoyed my job, even at our most difficult moments.
However, after all of the fun I was having while working in SAP and truly gaining a ton of useful experience and knowledge, "life" happened and I had an opportunity to move from Atlanta, GA to southern California. I've searched for months to find a new career here in California with a company that I could continue my learning experiences and become more proficient in SAP, but I'm a little lost. My search to find jobs have only given me possibilities in Customer Service positions or ones that are SAP sales/programming based. I'm floating in limbo and looking for help from the SAP community on where I can go from here to get back into a career path with SAP.
I'm 28 years old and I'm currently finishing my Associate degree in Business Administration. I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), certified with the Help-Desk Institute as a Support Center Analyst, and also completed my previous employer's Quality Advocate Certification which focused on Six Sigma and Lean concepts. Prior to leaving the company, I was being considered for a company sponsored training in the Six Sigma Green or Black Belt program. I've recently started working a contract position as a Customer Service Rep, processing orders, but the company will be completing an SAP conversion in May 2013; so only a few months away. The problem I have in this position is that I feel frustrated in learning their current software when their entire team seems to have their own personal ways of doing their job. I prefer to have structure and perform job duties the right way, then building on that to make the job more streamlined. I spoke with my recruiter but he feels I may be a bit premature on feelings about working in this contract position. I may be just feeling a little impatient in having to wait another 3 months to see if the company may even hire me on permanently and what role I would have with SAP, beyond Customer Service Rep. I'm hoping to get some direction from the SAP community on where I might focus my attention in learning SAP. My hope is to find a position working with SAP like the one I enjoyed so much back in GA. I'm even considering options to learn the programming side. I think SAP is a great software package once people understand how it's designed, or can be designed, to work.
    Please help!!
I'd be happy to provide my resume to anyone willing to review it and give me some pointers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I appreciate the length and detail of your post. I struggle answering questions from folks who give too little info. It's refreshing to have too much info for a change.
I'll summarize your post and give suggestions:
You have very strong end user experience, almost bordering on support level SD knowledge. You have experience with the way that at least one company implemented SAP SD but don't have many years of experience with different approaches, so you can't pitch yourself as someone who's "been-there, done-that" outside of the SD world and you can't bill yourself as having SD functional knowledge to the extend that you could be a consultant for SAP SD.  (See FAQ: Different Career Paths in SAP for descriptions of different traditional SAP career paths.)
You've moved to Southern California, which is chock full of companies using SAP, by the way, and you're having a hard time finding the right job. Your education is probably going to be problematic at this point. Most SAP related jobs require a Bachelor's Degree at a minimum. Definitely keep on going with your degree. I don't know where you're doing your associate's degree, but you might want to look in to Cal State Fullerton, which has an *excellent* SAP focused business degree program. (http://business.fullerton.edu/).
You've found work at a company but had to start over at a lower level of responsibility. Since the job you just landed will be transitioning to SAP in 3 months, you have an opportunity to repeat your previous rise by volunteering to be a super-user again. Alternatively, you could talk to the group within your company and express your desire to help out supporting the system from the back end. Traditionally, companies lose a few folks immediately following an implementation, so there's a good chance that if you make your desires and skills known, that you'll be able to move onto the support team once a position opens up.
All of the above assumes that you want to continue on the functional side of SD. You didn't mention any aptitude or preference for programming. It is certainly easier to get programming jobs than functional jobs (see How did you get your start in SAP?), but it seems like you really enjoyed the functional side of SAP. I do *not* recommend learning an SAP skill for which you have no desire simply to get a job, hoping that you can switch later. Use the skills you have to get the job you really want, doing something that really excites you. It's far to easy to fall into a job simply because it's there and get trapped and burned out.
    Hope this helps!

  • Universe based on SAP BW

    Hey everybody,
exepting that I've got problems to create Universes based on Multiproviders (an other thread: /community [original link is broken]) I have an other problem with that ones I'm able to create out of SAP Cubes.
When choosing a connection that refers on a SAP BW Cube it starts to import all containing tables.
Usually, when using a sample file, e.g., there is imported non at all and it's possible then to create an new universe (adding tables, create joins, etc.).
After creating the "SAP related" universe this is not possible anymore. But maybe it shouldn't? I dont't know.
Which step or point of the "chain" I don't understand? Or what I'm doing wrong?
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    take a look here:
