XML Database Development with JDeveloper?

Hello, folks:
I am trying to create XML database through JDeveloper.
Database: Oracle 10g
IDE: JDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0
JDBC Driver: Oracle ojdbc6.jar
I connect successfully to the database through JDeveloper. There I see many folders listed, e.g. Tables, Views, Indexes, XML Schemas, XML DB Repository, and others. My problem is that when I try to save a large schema file (that I already validated on my local machine) that is roughly more than 300 lines, then JDeveloper is unable to save the file. It saves only very small files that are about 100 lines or less. The error message simply is: "Unable to save XML Schema blah.filename@local (Error saving XML Schema).
I tried to do it in Oracle SQL Developer too, but got the same error. Can someone please help me understand this problem and how to fix it? Do I need to specify some settings in JDeveloper or SQL Developer? Thanks a lot in advance.

    My intention of performing FOD schema installation was to follow the tutorial "Database Development with JDeveloper" at http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/databasedevelopment/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm. But I stopped at the last topic "Creating and Debugging PL/SQL Objects in the Database" ->"Running a SQL Script to Create an Object Type" when trying to create a object using script on the page.
    This is the script:
    ------------------------------------------------start
    REM
    REM Create object ORDER_ITEMS_REC
    REM
    CREATE or REPLACE type ORDER_ITEMS_REC as object
    ORDER_ID NUMBER(15),
    LINE_ITEM_ID NUMBER(3),
    PRODUCT_ID NUMBER(15),
    QUANTITY NUMBER(6),
    UNIT_PRICE NUMBER(8,2),
    CREATED_BY VARCHAR2(60),
    CREATION_DATE DATE,
    LAST_UPDATED_BY VARCHAR2(60),
    LAST_UPDATE_DATE DATE,
    OBJECT_VERSION_ID NUMBER(15)
    show errors;
    --------------------------------------------------end
    and the error message I got was
    ------------------------------------------------start
    Error report:
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    01031. 00000 - "insufficient privileges"
    ------------------------------------------------end
    I was wandering whether the error of FOD installation could cause the error of the tutorial?
    Any response will be appreciated.

    1. you dont have to insall Oracle database at the BO machine side, you just need any database to hold the BO repository.
    2. you cant connect directly using BO, only Crystal reports can connect directly to R3 database, you need to have a BW in between.
    extract your data into the BW, and let BO connect to BW using the BO integration kit for SAP solutions.
    3. no you dont have to have 3 different machines, using one BO machine you connect to them all, but you may need build a  BO environment, (Development, Production servers)
    good luck

    The XML database engine used in JDev is in fact from SQL Developer. In other words the SQL Developer code base is used by JDev though typically it is an older version than the latest SQL Developer. As such best post this question to the SQL Developer forum and ensure to state which standalone SQL Developer version you're using.

  • PL/SQL development with JDeveloper

    We are using Toad and JDeveloper to maintain our legacy IS that count thousands of PL/SQL code object (Packages, Package Bodies, Triggers).
    I'm using JDeveloper and SQL Developer in the perspective to verify if it is possible and effective to use only Oracle tools in the project.
    I like to work with JDeveloper to edit pl/sql code and i like to have my code in database offline object maintained into subversion.
    I'm able to compile these sources in my different platform (development system, test alpha, test beta and final testing instance directly from JDeveloper.
    That's fine except JDeveloper didn't return a compile status or a list of compile errrors like in SqlDeveloper. So I need to use SqlDeveloper in parallel of JDeveloper.
    This is the beginning of my problems.
    SqlDeveloper may have some editor open with source code into I updated into JDeveloper (depends on the change to do, some changes a done in SqlDeveloper to correct some errors and the code is refreshed from the instance into JDeveloper, and more important changes are done in JDeveloper and compiled (loaded) in the instance) and loaded (compiled) into my instance.
    When the packages tree is already displayed in SqlDeveloper, the status of the package (valid, invalid) didn't change immediately. That is normal because SqlDeveloper don't know i change it from JDeveloper. I think it check it when i click on the package or the body node. The problem is that the code is not reloaded into the editor if it is opened and i you recompile your package without refreshing all the packages list you will recompile the older version and search sometimes a long time why your package didn't compile after the changes you done in JDeveloper (mainly after 6pm and a day of developing and compiling ) !!!!
    The only reason to use both JDeveloper and SqlDeveloper in this phase is the fact that JDeveloper didn't return compile status and a compile error list.
    With theses features I will no more use SqlDeveloper for such developing purposes (still using it to debug, obtain object definition, customize database object for some physical properties, etc) and avoid those bad manipulations.

    micwic --
    I logged bug6508875 for this.
    One suggestion in the meantime until we can get compile errors directed to the log window for offline objects...
    You can open the Database Navigator to point to the same db connection. After generating the offline PL/SQL to the db, refresh the connection in the DB navigator. You will see any invalid objects flagged with an error icon. Then you can right-click on the PL/SQL with the error, and "Make" it. This will display the errors in the log window, similar to SQL Developer.

  • Business Services development with jDeveloper

    We are making use of the Business Services feature in JDE to expose business functions as web services, that's great and working.
    we have one problem with jDeveloper during development.
    we can create a new business service from OMW in JDE and invoke jDev from there, that's fine.
    then we can put codes in the project in jDev, that's fine.
    then we can publish the code as J2EE web service, that works as well.
    then if we restart jDeveloper after that, the J2EE web service doesn't work in the jDev embeded web server any more.
    we always have to delete the web service in the project and go through the same wizard steps to generate the web service again.
    it's very annoying when you have more than a handful of web services you want to expose.
    and if you use the WSDL in a client project to call this web service, you have to remember to give the web service the same name when re-generating otherwise you have to reimport the WSDL again on client side, it can be another huge pain if the client is Oracle BPEL.
    so my question is, why is this happening? is it some settings in jDev that we didn't set right? or is it a bug in jDEv and is there a work around?
    thanks in advanced!

    What error did you get?

  • Best practice: team based development with JDeveloper and CVS?

    Hi all!
    I was wondering of what is the best way to work with Jdev 9i and cvs on a same project with 5 developers whereas
    all developers use the same JPRs and JWS?
    Which of the files should be checked in to the central CVS repository, which should be remained on the local machine of each developer?
    I assume, all java and xml files might be stored in the cvs repository. But how can we make sure that new files written by a member of the team will be added to my project?
    If we also check in the JPR and CFG files the merge of concurrent JPRs will fail and our project will be shreddered ;-)
    My question: what is your best experience with simultanous development on same projects?
    Any idea?
    Many thanks,
    Stefan

    1. Put everything that your project needs under CVS control:
    - buildscripts
    - BC4J jarfiles
    - BC4J generated files (java, xml, xcfg, jpx, cpx)
    - .properties, package.html, gif, ...
    - docu
    - install scripts
    - starter batch or exec, ...
    2. Each developer should have a own JPR and JWS file. In a seperate location those files could be checked in frequently to easy allow the setup of a new Developer workstation
    3. Use a sourcecode formatter (e.g. jalopy) on the BC4J generated java files to reduce merge conflicts because of empty lines generated by JDev dialogs
    4. Adding new files is no problem:
    - if you add new BC4J objects (AM, VO, ASC, EO, VL) also checkin the bc4j package XML so new files will be added.
    - set in project settings common / input paths - "Scan source path ..."
    5. Deleting BC4J files is a problem, because JDev does not automatically remove them from the project. So if someone deletes BC4J objects, you should close the project and delete it manually from the jpr file
    6. Close the project before making a CVS update wih external tool like Tortoise because of JDev caches

  • Applet development with JDeveloper

    Hi,
    After many years of not being on the Java bandwagon, I am now faced with having to learn Java for some small projects that I will be working on later this year.
    I have been working through the newest Core Java book. I am currently at chapter x, Applets.
    My question is, How do I run applets from within JDeveloper?
    For example, given the following code:
    package myapplet;
    <applet code="MyApplet.class" width="300" height="300">
    </applet>
    import javax.swing.*;
    public classMyApplet extends JApplet
    public void init()
    JLabel label = new JLabel("Not a \"Hello, world\" applet", SwingConstants.CENTER);
    add(label);
    How can I run it from within JDev or how can I run it in a applet viewer or regular web browser? I tried to execute it in a Firefox browser, but it does not work.
    Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Ron Reidy

    Try this:
    In JDeveloper from the new->web tier->applet create a new applet (check the "can run stand alone").
    Add your 2 lines of code to the jbinit method.
    Then you can just run the applet directly.
    The other option is if you don't check the "run stand alone", you'll go into the new->web tier->applet and create an Applet HTML. The wizard will guide you to selecting your applet. then you run the HTML page.

  • Is there any tutorial for jms development with jdeveloper out there ?

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    is there any tutorial which show us how to use jdeveloper +oc4j for JMS stuff ?

  • Missing data-sources.xml deploying war with jdeveloper 9i RC

    When deploying a war file to an OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 server and error reports during the deployment that data-sources.xml is missing in the application-deployments/xxxx directory. Only the orion-application.xml file is present - which references a data-sources.xml file in the same directory. The problem is : it isn't there.

  • XML publisher with jdeveloper

    Hi all,
    I'm wondering if there is an API of XML Publisher for using with jdeveloper for development a reporting system. After I have run queries in database, I want to present tuples in a formatted fashion in PDF, RTF document etc. There are open source facilities like jasper reports etc, if XML publisher facilitates my reporting part of my system, I want to plan reporting development via XML Publisher!
    So, How I can integrate XML Publisher with jdeveloper? Is there any API documentation?
    best regards...
    --barisk

    XML Publisher ships with 2 XDK parsers a 9i version for backward compatibility and 10g version - you can switch at runtim using the properties. However, you have to make sure that the XML Publisher versions of the libraries are used and not the ones coming with i.e. jdeveloper version or oc4j version that you are using. You should use the version shipped with XML Publisher, because these versions are thoroughly tested with XML Publisher.
    See the deployment notes in the install document:
    Oracle OC4J Deployment Notes
    The version of the XML Parser shipped with Oracle OC4J is incompatible with XML Publisher. When you create an XML Publisher application for OC4J you need to configure the system to use the XML Publisher version of the XML Parser. This can be accomplished by setting an orion-web.xml configuration file with the following content:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <orion-web-app>
    <web-app-class-loader search-local-classes-first="true" />
    </orion-web-app>
