XML File download through an iview

Hi All,
I've written an iview that builds up the data for an xml file and tableview report. The should be able to click a link on the iview and a window pops up and they can save the XML data to a local file.
I have two problems, the first is I am unsure how to pass the large amount of data from the first iview to the second "Download" iview. It is too big to fit as a form parameter. I'm hoping to add it to the component session. Do you think this will work?
The second problem is the download itself. I've created a basic component with a doContent method. I've tried setting the content type to "Application/octet-stream" by using the following code :
public class ecDownloadComponent extends AbstractPortalComponent
    public void doContent(IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
          PortalComponentContentType pct = new PortalComponentContentType("APPLICATION/OCTET-STREAM");
          response.setContentType(pct);
          response.write("<xml>hello</xml>");
All I get is an HTML page with the data in.
Any ideas how I force the download?
Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard,
1.) If the complete data which should be downloadable is built in the first iView, it is no problem to add it to the component session. "Size doesn't matter"
What happens "physically" if you add something to a session? In fact, a <i>reference</i> to your (small or incredible fat) object is added into a hashtable or something similar.
(Excurs: That's why objects in sessions are called "live", because if you get a reference to an object of a session and manipulate this object with it's methods, the object in the session is manipulated, because it's the same object; that's the reason why you don't have to "update" such an object into the session).
So you don't have to worry about using the double amount of memory, because you are not.
2.) For iViews to be something different than HTML, put all the stuff into the overridden method <i>protected void doOnNodeReady(IPortalComponentRequest request, IEvent event)</i>, retrieve the original HttpServletResponse via <i>HttpServletResponse response= request.getServletResponse(true);</i> and set the ContentType on this.
The trick is to be "early enough" in the sense that the content type must not have been set before.
With this, just implement an empty <i>doContent</i> method and put the rest of your download logic in the method stated above.
Just one more info, not needed here, but maybe interesting in this context: If you want do produce PDF's in this way, you have to be sure to put the PDF data "fast enough" into the output stream, otherwise the PDF-Reader could get stuck. This means <i>first</i> setting all data into a memory buffer and then sending this into the outputstream (and not calculating the data "while sending").
Hope it helps

    In transaction SM69 external operating system commands can be set up and then these can be executed using function SXPG_CALL_SYSTEM from ABAP or using SM49 transaction.
    See documentation in the function module and application help in the SM69 / SM49 transactions.
    You could set up commands for copy, move, delete for the relevant directories.  Be careful to limit the directories and set security appropriately.

  • How to export table contents in xml file format through SQL queries

    hi,
    i need to export the table data in to xml file format. i got it through the GUI what they given.
    i'm using Oracle 10g XE.
    but i need to send the table name from Java programs. so, how to call the export commands from programming languages through. is there any sql commands to export the table contents in xml format.
    and one more problem is i created each transaction in two tables. for example if we have a transaction 'sales' , that will be saved in db as
    sales1 table and sales2 table. here i maintained and ID field in sales1 as PK. and id as FK in sales2.
    i get the combined data with this query,
    select * from sales1 s1, sales2 s2 where s1.id=s2.id order by s1.id;
    it given all the records, but i'm getting two ID fields (one from each table). how to avoid this. here i dont know how many fields will be there in each table. that will be known at runtime only.
    the static information is sales1 have one ID field with PK and sales2 will have one ID filed with FK.
    i need ur valuable suggestions.
    regards
    pavan.

    You can use DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML('your Query') for generating data in tables to XML format and you can use DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWSETTAG to change the parent element name other wise it will give rowset as well as DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWTAG for row name.
    Check this otherwise XMLELEMENT and XMLFOREST function are also there to convert data in XML format.

    Hello,
    For processing XMLs always try to make use of the class CL_XML_DOCUMENT.
    You can download the XML stream to a local file using the method of EXPORT_TO_FILE class CL_XML_DOCUMENT.

  • Reading XML file generated through XMLGEN

    Hi,
    I have the following problem and I hope someone can give me an advise.
    I generated a simple XML document through the packages XMLGEN.
    This document is stored in a table in CLOB column.
    After this document has been processed (changed) from the web server's ASP pages, I want to read this (changed) XML document (again in the a table in a CLOB)
    to compare it against relational data.
    There is not external DTD or schema of this XML.
    I was thinking to read the elements from the XML/CLOB one-by-one and process them as needed.
    I'm reading already over one week the Oracle manuals, but I can't find any good samples that would help me.
    Does anyone know a nice PL/SQL sample to solve this problem?
    Here is a sample of the XML data:

  • Options for large XML file - downloading from the app hangs browser

    I am using 5.6.3 in EBS.
    My users want to create files that can be uploaded into another system. The system will take XML files so my original idea was to create a data definition and have the user simply save the xml output (using View XML option). A .rtf template is also required for a pdf output - a summary of what was sent in the extract. This idea worked fine until I got a large file (37+ MB) and the View XML crashed my browser. Other than moving the files to a directory on the server that my user has access to, is there any other way to get at that raw XML?
    Updated:
    I have been doing some more reading and I am wondering if both an etext template and a pdf template would have been the better solution. This way I could submit once with the etext template and republish same data with the pdf template. Has anyone tried this successfully? I am not sure though that this would eliminate my problem with the large files (100,000+ records) crashing the browser. When you use an etext template, how do you get at that file? Is it using the 'View Output' button on Request Form or do I have the option to send it somewhere directly (i.e. server or email)?
    Any tips would be appreciated.
    Edited by: Tam_11 on Jan 14, 2011 1:38 PM

    Hi,
    using etext, the text output will still be in the usual directory at $APPLCSF/$APPLOUT.
    The text output will be smaller than the XML output so I'd be surprised if it still crashes your browser so you shouldn't need to get the XML.
    What format is needed for the target system?
    Cheers

  • Problem with file download through JSP under WLS6.1 SP3

    Hello,
    We're in the process of trying to migrate from WLS 6.1 SP1 to SP3, and we're encountering
    some difficulties with this migration.
    I'm attaching a very simple JSP here - it's a snippet from a larger more dynamic
    JSP, that I managed to narrow down to a pretty simple case which still doesn't
    work.
    This JSP opens a file residing at "c:\\BDELog.txt" (it's hardcoded - so change
    it to any textual local file on your machine in order to test it), and writes
    it to the output stream as a txt attachment.
    This JSP works perfectly well on SP1, however, on SP3, it fails only during the
    first hit. If you call this JSP again from the same browser window - it'll work.
    Needless to say - this isn't an acceptable behavior for a website.
    Hope you can help.
    Appreciate any response.

    Is there a way to work around this problem - for example - write

    so that the problematic header will be overriden or simply get a

    This is a known issue and has been fixed.
    The fix is in SP4. This has to do with a bug that IE has with respect
    to a
    header:
    Cache-Control: no-cache="set-cookie"
    We introduced that as the default header to be returned on all
    responses.
    As of SP4(due out very soon), the default behaviour will be notto send
    this
    header back with each response.

  • File download in CRM WEB UI

    Hi ,
    I am using web ui .
    I have a requirement of converting an internal table to xml file & download it to application server .
    I have converted the file to xml but not able to save the file to application server  .I am currently using CL_CRM_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>GUI_DOWNLOAD method to download on application server  , but it is throwing an exception of "flush" but at the same time if i am calling this method from a report through SE38, it is working fine .
    Is there any other method that is to be used for CRM WEB UI to download a file on desktop / application server .
    Manish

    GUI DOWNLOAD will not work in WebClient, as it is a completely different technology. You will have to use some kind of technology that uses HTTP. Just like in the Internet.
    When you have got your content ready, maybe it is an option for you to transform it to XSTRING. There are some function modules in FM Group SCMS_CONV. Once you have got the XSTRING you can set it on a response object of class CL_HTTP_RESPONSE. Create a new one.
    Now declare yourself an URL. In your viewcontroller you have got access to the variable RUNTIME.
    concatenate runtime->application_url '/234234234.xml' into lv_url'
    when you have both you can upload the content to the server cache:
    cl_http_server=>server_cache_upload( url = lv_url response = lr_response ).
    now you can access the content under the created URL lv_url.
    On the BSP page you could for instance do this using javascript:
    window.open( lv_url ).
    This should open a dialog for the user with save option.

  • Reading complex XML file in flex

    I have searched the web but found very primitive xml

    httpservice .
    The xml file is ultimately going to become dataProvider of a
    tree. But I have no idea how to traverse this xml file. mentioned
    under are the xml file and HTTPService tag.
    I want to traverse it in the resultHandler function.
    Thank you very much

    Yes, as Greg says, use e4x.
    To do this you must set the HTTPService resultFormat="e4x";
    In you handler, do:
    var xmlResult= XML(event.result);
    trace(xmlResult.toXMLString());
    and away you go.

  • Storing internal table from XML File into DDIC

    Hi everybody,
    im trying to store an internal table <b>without</b> knowing the content - means the structure (fields)- into th DDIC, but i failed. The code is:
    DATA xslt_error TYPE REF TO cx_xslt_exception.
    TRY .
    perform load_file  using 'D:/usr/YTGVF_asXML.xml'    changing itab_XMLResult.
          refresh itab_tableA.
          call transformation id
            source xml itab_XMLResult
            result GREATEST = itab_tableA.
    CATCH cx_xslt_exception INTO xslt_error.
      DATA: xslt_message type string .
      xslt_message = xslt_error->get_text( ).
      write xslt_message.
    ENDTRY.
    form load_file
      using    path type localfile
      changing tab type table.
      data:    s type string,
               filelength type i.
      s = path.
      refresh tab.
      call function 'GUI_UPLOAD'
        exporting  filename   = s
                   filetype   = 'BIN'
        importing  filelength = filelength
        tables     data_tab   = tab
        exceptions others     = 1.
    endform.                    "load_file
    So, how can i store itab_tableA, without knowing the content (fields) of the table? The XML-File is of type asXML - i guess there should be a solution.
    Thanks for all replies!
    BG, Jim

    Absolutely, I don't see why that would be a problem.
    After parsing through the schema or DTD, you would know what the structure of the XML file coming through would be. So it would be basically uploading the file to SAP and then parsing the schema or DTD file, you will come to know the structure of your XML.
    And once you know the structure, you can create your <a href="/people/subramanian.venkateswaran2/blog/2004/11/19/dynamic-internal-table internal table</a>, and put the values from the XML file in the same.
    Considering my limited knowledge in XML, I am not able to provide information regarding , if there are any function modules/classes which SAP supports to directly read an XML schema/DTD and create a table of that sort. But the above inputs should help you in your way...

  • Can't install executable files downloaded in Firefox

    I just got a new computer with Windows 7 (32 bit) and downloaded the most recent version of Firefox. I downloaded a couple of free applications to install (an FTP client and a printer driver). When I try to run the executable file, I get an error that says "Program to big to fit in memory". I have 4 gb of ram on this machine, so I am not sure that this error is representative of what is happening. Interestingly though, if I download the exact file in IE, the executable launches and installs without any problems. Any ideas as to what to do and why this is happening?

    I want to update what I originally wrote. We have now been able to isolate the problem to .exe or .zip files downloaded through Firefox onto the network server (which is 64 bit). If I download the file to my desktop (32 bit), I can launch the files. Since I work in a small office, I typically download a file to the server so that it can be installed on all of the workstations. This now doesn't work. But, if I download the same file through IE to the network server, the program launches fine.
