XML file download to presentation server.

Hi Experts,
Here I have a question regarding file download to desktop.
I have a report which will generate xml file. Once it is generated i would like to download to desktop.
I tried with 'GUI_DOWNLOAD', but it is not working. It means the file is downlaoded to presentation server but when i opened it 'Page can't be displayed' message is comming.
Could you pleas help me to solve this issue.

Hello,
For processing XMLs always try to make use of the class CL_XML_DOCUMENT.
You can download the XML stream to a local file using the method of EXPORT_TO_FILE class CL_XML_DOCUMENT.

I am experiencing an issue downloading an XML File to the Application Server.
I'm using FM SAP_CONVERT_TO_XML_FORMAT to convert SAP data to XML Format.
After getting the XML data into XMLTAB, I'm using:

     LOOP AT xmltab INTO xmltab_w.
     TRANSFER xmltab_w TO pfile_fs.

The xml file is downloaded show an Error in 'XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
Invalid at the top level of the document. Error processing resource 'file:/shared/TEST/2009'
But when i download xml file using the FM WS_Download , the XML page has no errors .
I am unable to figure out what could be the issue, If this issue is due to some characters like Chinese or Japanese then .. is there any solution for this .

File download to presentation server in BACKGROUND

Hello,
i'm trying to download a simple list to the presentation server, but in a background process (part of an update rule for an infopackage). I´ve tried WS_Download and CALL METHOD o->gui_download etc but the job cancels with them since they seem only to run in frontend. Does anyone know of a more suitable function module?

Downloading .xml/.tx data to presentation server while running background.

Hi experts,
I have a requiremnt to downloading .xml/.txt data to presentation server while running background.
when i run the program in foreground with use of GUI_upload/ Gui_download its working fine but not working in background.
i can't use email/data download to database file and than get it option as data can be huge.
Can anybody help me out regarding this.

it'snt possible to download a file in background using gui_download.
You could try to create a Shell Command (transaction SM69) to transfer data in a shared directory.
You can execute Os Commands using function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE

File download from application server to presentation server

Hi,
We have requirment to upload a file to application server in .dbf format and then download it to presentation server. while downloading the file to presentation server some of the fields getting junk values. we are downloading file to excel sheet. some of the fields values are Russian texts. Those fields only getting junk values, all other fields are getting correct values.

Error while extracting XML file from the application server

Hi ,
I am writing a XML file into the application server, after which when i try to extract the file to the local server using the report - RFASLDPC ,
the file is extracted, but with a '#' symbol at the first position.
Because of which the XML File does not open. But after i open the file in notepad and manually delete the '#' symbol and then reopen the file, it works fine.
Is there any way to remove the '#' symbol while extracting itself ??

However, I still have troubles -> the downloaded xml file misses a space on several places. This causes errors too.

How to validate a Particular Directory or file path in Presentation server.

Hi SAP gurus,
I am having a requirement where I want to download a file into the Presentation server.
The file path to download will be provided in a parameter.
What I want to do is to throw a message to the user if He/She provides a wrong Directory or File path.
For example :
Say the user is providing the file download path as " E:\test.txt", but there is no "E" drive or such directory in the presentation. So in this case I should be able to check the wrong Directory provided by the user and throw some message to the user saying there is no such Directory present. Please give a proper directory or similar messages.
I have found a FM: PFL_CHECK_DIRECTORY but i am not able to use it properly.
So do you have any FM or any method and its explanation to fulfill my requirement .

I need to create xml file in r3 application server (AL11) using PI.Can we achieve this using file adapter or we need to proceed with proxy. As I tried with file adapter with FTP transport protocol. Its giving the error as "Unable to create new pooled resource:FTPEx:Login incorrect".

To generate file at AL11 file directory use File adapter. Proxy is not required for this

2. FTP User you use in communication channel must have 777 access to FTP location.

Using XML File as a Data Server

OK - here's my scenario:
- Have an XML file that I am holding parameters (i.e log file folder) in
- I have set the XML file as a data server (which test connects OK) and created physical and logical schemas in Topology Manager
- In Designer, have created a data model for this file
What I am trying to do is populate/refresh a global variable with a value from the XML file; however, when I make a change to the value in the XML file, the value does not get passed into the variable.
In the global variable, it is set to refresh from the xml data source and in a package I am using a variable step set to refresh but still the data does not update with the current values in the file.
Couple of other things - if I go to the data model and view the data, it sees the value that is in the xml file but the variable is not getting the same value - it seems to be using some kind of cached value. Also, if I close any open ODI apps (Designer, Operator, etc.) and re-open, the values (sometimes) seem to reflect what is in the file.
Crux of the post - am I missing something so obvious that I cannot see it or has anyone else experienced this kind of issue.

OK - I got this working but in order to do this I followed some info from another post and changed the structure of the XML.
Previously, it was structured as:

<name>Test1</name>
<value>Some Value</value>

<name>Test2</name>
<value>Some Value2</value>
</param>
</params>
Now I have changed it to:
<params>
<param name="Test1" value="Some Value" />
<param name="Test2" value="Some Value2" />
</params>
I also added the dod=true value into the JDCB url.
Now, one of these circumstances fixed my issue (of which I am very glad) but I don't know which one :-) .... and I currently don't have the time to find out.
I may investigate this further in the future (and post accordingly).

How to invoke a xml-file download ?

How can I manipulate XSQL/XSL that when the transition is done, the user downloads the result to his file system. And not only for XML File downloads but for txt or doc formats?

In transaction SM69 external operating system commands can be set up and then these can be executed using function SXPG_CALL_SYSTEM from ABAP or using SM49 transaction.
See documentation in the function module and application help in the SM69 / SM49 transactions.
You could set up commands for copy, move, delete for the relevant directories. Be careful to limit the directories and set security appropriately.

"Bad data format" when reading txt file from the presentation server

I have a piece of code which reads a txt file from the presentation server to an internal table like below:

When running this code, exception BAD_DATA_FORMAT is issued.
Is it because of the file encoding or delimiter or other reason?

Reading file from the presentation server in the background

Hi,
I am trying to read a .csv file from the presentation server into an internal table in the background. what should I do for it? In the foreground it works fine.
I have declared a selection parameter 'p_file' that has the path of the file. It wokrs fine in the foreground and how to set it up in the background?

I too got the same requirement, can you explain the process.
There is no way you can do it... The best method is to put the file on Appln server and then call it in the background mode.
