Xml in datagrid instead of a proper result

Hi
I'm new to FDS and I have a problem to show my data in my
data grid. As you can see below I have a datagrid and a button.When
I click on the button I search for every item which contains 'BA'
but instead of giving me all the items of my search results, the
data grid gives me my search result in a xml-format:
<articles>
<number>262</number>
BALPEN
BIC M10 BLAUW

Has anybody have had a similar problem and found a solution?
Thanks!

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
backgroundColor="#FFFFFF" viewSourceURL="srcview/index.html">
<mx:WebService id="srv" wsdl="
http://localhost:8080/axis/ArticleService.jws?wsdl"
showBusyCursor="true"/>
<mx:DataGrid dataProvider="{srv.getArticles.lastResult}"
width="100%" height="100%">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="article.number"
headerText="Article Number"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="article.description"
headerText="Description"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
<mx:Button label="Get Data"
click="srv.getArticles('BA')"/>
</mx:Application>

Note that this issue would be technically unrelated to FDS
(now known as
LCDS - the latest version being LCDS 2.5.1), but rather it
concerns WebServices
and the decoding SOAP into ActionScript objects. That is, FDS
is not required
to use WebServices in Flex (unless you need the proxy
service) and FDS does
not decode the SOAP responses - that is something that the
rpc.swc client
library does from the Flex SDK.
Depending on the version of Flex that you're using, it may be
a bug in the
<mx:WebService> implementation in the Flex SDK?
A new <mx:WebService> implementation was provided in
the Flex SDK which was
first made available in LCDS 2.5 which co-incided with Flex
SDK 2.0.1 Hotfix
2, and will be more widely exposed in Flex 3 (which is
currently in Beta).
The latest nightly builds for the Flex SDK 2.0.1 can be found
here:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flex/sdk/flex2sdk.html
The latest nightly builds for the Flex SDK 3 Beta can be
found here:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flex/sdk/flex3sdk.html
If you find a problem with WebServices, please log a bug
against the Flex
SDK at the public bug repository:
http://bugs.adobe.com/flex/
You can log the bug under the "RPC: WebService" component.
When logging a WebService bug, it's best to provide the WSDL,
any XML Schema
imports, a snippet of MXML or AS3 code that you used to call
an operation
and process the result (as you did in your post), and ideally
a capture of
the SOAP response as XML.

Pete

• Spotlight is gray instead of blue and won't return proper results

Hello,
I have been having difficulty with Spotlight for 2 months now. One day, it just stopped returning any results. So I reindexed the entire hard drive, checked via Terminal to make sure indexing was on and followed a bevy of other tricks found in discussions. None of them has worked. At the moment, Spotlight will return some results such as applications, but skips most of the documents that should turn up easily.
Also affected is the search in the Mail application. It will return proper results if I search via the FROM or TO or SUBJECT fields, but it will not return ANY results if I choose the ENTIRE MESSAGE search choice. Subsequently, mail messages do not appear in the Spotlight search either (even though it is checked in the Preferences.
Also, I know that the spotlight menu will be colored blue when the drive is indexed properly. Mine is gray, even though it took it's 2 hours to index and said it successfully completed.
I've yet to find a solution that works and am looking for any advice, tips, or solution trials.
Thanks,
jc

You need to specify the full URL. I would also suggest using
a result handler to assign the xml to your DataGrid dataProvider.
Below is a sample. I set the resultFormat to e4x, which is XML.

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute" creationComplete="srv.send()">
<mx:HTTPService id="srv"
url="
http://lab-cs3.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/~aa322/mytube.xml"
result="videoListLoaded(event)"
resultFormat="e4x"/>
<mx:Script>

import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
[Bindable] private var videoList:XML;
private function videoListLoaded(evt:ResultEvent):void {
videoList = evt.result as XML;

</mx:Script>
<mx:DataGrid x="10" y="10" id="videos_dg"
dataProvider="{videoList.video}">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn width="200" headerText="label"
dataField="label"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn width="300" headerText="URL"
dataField="url"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn width="50" headerText="views"
dataField="views"/>

• Not getting proper result for TIMESTAMP

While trying to run below query
SELECT GREATEST(TO_TIMESTAMP_TZ(CAST(NEW_TIME(TO_DATE('05/09/08
13:50','MM/DD/YY HH24:MI'),'CDT','GMT') AS TIMESTAMP)) ,
TO_TIMESTAMP_TZ(CAST(NEW_TIME(TO_DATE('06/09/08 13:50','MM/DD/YY
HH24:MI'),'CDT','GMT') AS TIMESTAMP)) )"DATE" FROM DUAL;
got the result as
"oracle.sql.TIMESTAMPTZ@8eaec8"
Where as should get some proper result.
I am using eclipse 3.2 . Do I need to do any more setup?

Your problem is almost definately how you retreive the timestamp from the ResultSet and then display it, not in the way the query returns it.

• Removing ?xml version="1.0"? from the result

Hi Friends
How do we remove from the result if we have ran two query in one resultset
e.g
qryCtx := DBMS_XMLGEN.newContext('select ename, job from emp where empno > 7900');
DBMS_XMLGEN.setRowSetTag(qryCtx,'employeedata');
DBMS_XMLGEN.setRowTag(qryCtx,'emp');
result := DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML(qryCtx);
insert into temp_clob_tab values(result);
DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext(qryCtx);
qryCtx := DBMS_XMLGEN.newContext('select * from dept');
DBMS_XMLGEN.setRowSetTag(qryCtx,'departments');
DBMS_XMLGEN.setRowTag(qryCtx,'dept');
result := DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML(qryCtx);
insert into temp_clob_tab values(result);
DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext(qryCtx);
RESULT

<employeedata>
<emp>
<ENAME>FORD</ENAME>
<JOB>ANALYST</JOB>
</emp>
<emp>

<dept>
<DEPTNO>20</DEPTNO>
<DNAME>RESEARCH</DNAME>
<LOC>DALLAS</L[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

Why do you want to get rid of the XML header ? If you want to concatenate the two values to produce a single XML document, I would recommend using XMLConcat or XMLAgg SQL functions.

Hi,
I found a web service I'd love to use on my web site at this

Liceth,
For both the Quick Search and the Advanced Search, a call is made to JhsApplicationModule.advancedSearch(), as described in the JHeadstart Developer's Guide, chapter 5.
You can change the way the where clause is constructed by creating your own subclass of JhsApplicationModuleImpl, making sure that your own Application Module(s) extend the new class, and overriding JHeadstart's advancedSearch(String, ArrayList, Boolean) method. You can start by copying the source code from JhsApplicationModuleImpl, and then make some changes to use bind variables.
One word of warning: if the search is applied to a child group (like in your example the employees of a certain department), ADF BC will already use :1 for the ViewLink where clause.
Hope this helps,

• How to exclude the XML declaration from each row of the result set?

Hi,
I have a table with an XMLTYPE column and would like to SELECT a set of rows. How can I exclude the XML declaration from each row in the result set? My query currently looks like this, I'm executing it through Spring JDBC:
SELECT XMLSerialize(CONTENT t1.xmltext) FROM myschema.event t1 WHERE XMLEXISTS('$e/Event' PASSING XMLTEXT AS "e") ORDER BY t1.time DESC
After selecting, in my application I convert each row into a String and concatenate all rows into one big string in order to parse it into a DOM model. I get a parser exception (org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed) because there are multiple XML declarations in my big string. Of course, I could manually check the String of each row whether it starts with the XML declaration, but it would be nicer if I could instruct the DB not to add it in the first place. Is there a way?
Thanks!

Hi,
A couple of options I can think of :
SELECT XMLSerialize(CONTENT
XMLtransform(t1.xmltext,
xmltype('<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes"/>
<xsl:template match="/"><xsl:copy-of select="*"/></xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>')
FROM myschema.event t1
WHERE XMLEXISTS('$e/Event' PASSING XMLTEXT AS "e")
ORDER BY t1.time DESC
;or simply,
SELECT XMLSerialize(CONTENT
extract(t1.xmltext,'/')
FROM myschema.event t1
WHERE XMLEXISTS('$e/Event' PASSING XMLTEXT AS "e")
ORDER BY t1.time DESC
;

• Display xml in Datagrid

Hi All,
After fiddling this for almost a week, I finally come in seek
of assistance and advice. let me explain my requirement as clearly
as I possibly can. before you even proceed further, please make
sure you a aware of the following:
importing xml into flash
usnig the XPathApi
using datasets and Datagrids
Summary
I have a complex XML file (refer link below) that is
generated from a database. my client wants these generated data to
be displayed in a presentable format so that any visitor using this
application can instantly get the data by querying into the XML
File.
I tried doing this with XML and XSLT i was able to display
the data in a presentable format. but I faced an issue. I was
unable to place a form text field and a submit button, so that the
user gets the freedom to filter the data that he needs.
So I seeked some advice on this topic at US and I was
suggested to use XPathApi, after reading the documentation and some
fiddling, I found a way to extract the data that i was supposed to
retrieve. but now I face a new problem. since the XML is a bit
complicating (for me at least). I found difficulties in displaying
the extracted data to the data grid.
I have attached the flash source file (v8) and (some what
similar) the XML files for your reference. would appreciate if
someone could help me achieve the objective. if you think there is
another alternative to XPathApi, I willing to try it out.
Try-out
Currently the retrieval of the data is working perfectly, for
example you can perform a query to list all the books that were
published by 'Wrox' by entering the query in the text field, you
will see the results in the "Trace" window.

• Transforming xml and DataGrids

Hello
I am reading data from a large xml file. I read it in using
HTTPService and the result type is "E4X". It contains information
about items in a warehouse.
like this
<Inventory>
<warehouse name="Texas">
<chairs count="900"/>
<tables count="40"/>
<lamps count="200"/>
</warehouse>
<warehouse name="California">
<chairs count="20"/>
<tables count="200"/>
<lamps count="1"/>
</warehouse>
</Inventory>
So far I have been able to show a list of warehouses in a
mx:List control and then when I select a warehouse (texas in this
case) I would like to display the list of items and their counts in
an mx:DataGrid control.
I can see that I can use selectedItem of the mx:List to
return the Node for the Texas warehouse like this
<warehouse name="Texas">
<chairs count="900"/>
<tables count="40"/>
<lamps count="200"/>
</warehouse>
But how can I get the data to display in a data grid
ITEM COUNT
chairs 900
tables 40
lamps 200
Thanks
Todd

Not familiar with stxx, but it should allow you the use of the xsl:strip-space instruction or some equivalent, when the XSLT is applied to the XML for transformation...

Thanks!

I'm stuck on this as well. I've read through the above
samples and postings and am now feeling really retarded. I thought
throwing the contents of a simple XML doc into a DataGrid would be
easy, but I've been trying all morning and no love. Any help is

Hi,
We're generating invoices using BI Publisher as one large XML report, then routing them to customers using the concurrent bursting program to break up the xml by customer and faxing / emailing / printing as needed.

Here's the control file for the bursting program, based on the demo:

</xapi:requestset>
This part seems fine - the email goes out, but the expected PDF attachment of the invoice is not there, presumably because it wasn't generated.
Thanks for making it to the bottom of this!!!
Any suggestions?

• Urgent Help required! - Storing the XML as String instead as a file

Hi,
I need urgent help on this.
I have an XML file. I have used org.w3c.dom to build dom and manipulate the XML file.
I have updated the values for some of the nodes and I have deleted some of the unwanted nodes.
I am able to save the output of the DOM as another XML file using
either transform class or XMLSerializer with OutputFormatter class.
But my requirement is to save the output of the DOM into a String instead of a file.
When I save it in String, I need to have the following XML decalration and DOCTYPE declration also with it.

Can anyone pls help me in this??
Thanks in Advance. Expecting some inpputs pls....!

hi,
i think this is what u want
public static String getXmlString(Document d) {
StringWriter strResponse = null;
try {
OutputFormat format = new OutputFormat(d);
strResponse = new StringWriter();
XMLSerializer serial = new XMLSerializer( strResponse, format );
serial.asDOMSerializer();
serial.serialize(d.getDocumentElement());
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println(e.toString());
return strResponse.toString();
}HTH

• How to create XML string for an object matching the result of a marshal?

I'm trying to create a XML string representation of an object which exactly matches the XML which results from marshalling the object into a request. I'm almost there except that the XML string I come up with is missing the attribute "standalone=\"yes\"" in the topmost xml element, and this attribute is present in the marshalled XML. I'm using the XML string to create a payload signature which must match exactly with the XML payload of the request, so the two XML representations of the object really do need to be identical.
Here's what I'm doing to create the XML from the object:
private String myObjectToXmlString (final MyObject myObject)
throws Exception {
try {
DocumentBuilder documentBuilder = documentBuilderFactory.newDocumentBuilder();
Document document = documentBuilder.newDocument();
myObjectMarshaller.marshal(myObject, document);
Source source = new DOMSource(document);
StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter();
Result result = new StreamResult(stringWriter);
TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer transformer = factory.newTransformer();
transformer.transform(source, result);
return stringWriter.getBuffer().toString();
} catch (Exception ex) {
throw new Exception("Unable to convert a MyObject object to an XML String -- " + ex.toString(), ex);
}The XML which is produced looks like this:

<ns2:myObject xmlns:ns2=\"http://sunconnection.sun.com/xml\">
<myObjectId>0</myObjectId>
<objectType>1</objectType>

Test Object

</ns2:myObject>The payload object is marshalled to the request like so:
// marshall the MyObject to the output stream
OutputStream outputStream = myHttpUrlConnection.getOutputStream();
myObjectMarshaller.marshal(myObject, outputStream);
outputStream.flush();
outputStream.close();When I view the XML payload of the request it looks like this:

<ns2:myObject xmlns:ns2=\"http://sunconnection.sun.com/xml\">
<myObjectId>0</myObjectId>
<objectType>1</objectType>

Test Object

</ns2:myObject>As you can see the two XML representations of the object are identical except for the standalone attribute in the xml element.
It'd be a hack to make the assumption that the standalone attribute will always be there in the marshalled object and to just hard code it into the XML string returned by my object to XML method. Since I'm using the same Marshaller to create the XML string as I am to perform the marshalling to the request I assume that there's some way to make it give the same XML in both cases, and that I'm doing something wrong in my method which converts the object to an XML string. If anyone can see where I'm going wrong in that method (myObjectToXmlString() above), or can suggest a better way of doing this, then I'll certainly appreciate the insight.

It turns out that I was taking the wrong approach in my object to XML string method. A cleaner/better way to do it, which gives the correct result, is this:
private String myObjectToXmlString (final MyObject myObject)
throws Exception {
try {
ByteArrayOutputStream stream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
myObjectMarshaller.marshal(myObject, stream);
return stream.toString();
} catch (Exception ex) {
throw new Exception("Unable to convert a MyObject object to an XML String -- " + ex.toString(), ex);
}--James
