XML Standard for Comments on Tables, Columns?

We are creating a new application and plan to store comments inside Oracle using the comment on table / column commands, but would like to store them in a manner that XML tools could understand. Is there some standard naming convention for things like Name, purpose, creator, etc? I know several metadata standards like FGDC have this, but I would like a more generic one if it exists.

i looked, and noone is answering the question in the xml db forum. That is where I expected help to come from.

  • XML Query filtering by child table column

    Hello,
    If anyone can help with this one... it would be nice. I need to make the output of an query to be in the format of XML, but the problem is that the initial filtering needs to be done in the child table.
    Example:
    CREATE TABLE PRIMARY(
    ID NUMBER(19,0),
    CODE_PRIMARY VARCHAR2(32));
    CREATE TABLE SECONDARY(
    ID NUMBER(19,0),
    IDPRIMARY(19,0),
    CODE_SECONDARY VARCHAR2(32));
    INSERT INTO PRIMARY(ID,CODE_PRIMARY)
    VALUES (1,'A');
    INSERT INTO PRIMARY(ID,CODE_PRIMARY)
    VALUES (2,'B');
    INSERT INTO SECONDARY(ID,IDPRIMARY,CODE_SECONDARY)
    VALUES (1,1,'C');
    INSERT INTO SECONDARY(ID,IDPRIMARY,CODE_SECONDARY)
    VALUES (2,1,'D');
    INSERT INTO SECONDARY(ID,IDPRIMARY,CODE_SECONDARY)
    VALUES (3,2,'E');
    Now what we need is to build an XML tree like the following, INNER JOINING PRIMARY and SECONDARY tables with this condition in the where clause -> WHERE SECONDARY.CODE IN ('C','D')
    <result>
    <record>
    <id>1</id>
    <code>A</code>
    <childs>
    <child>
    <id>1</id>
    <idprimary>1</idprimary>
    <codesecondary>C</codesecondary>
    </child>
    <child>
    <id>2</id>
    <idprimary>1</idprimary>
    <codesecondary>D</codesecondary>
    </child>
    </childs>
    </record>
    </result>
    In this example only one record is returned since we only have one record in PRIMARY table that has a child having codesecondary=C or D. The ideia is to get many records... but I think that this is enough for the sake of the example. And the solution is the same.
    Thanks in advance!

    Found the answer. Used distinct keyword instead of grouping the output table columns. This way XMLAgg didn't broke up the result:
    SELECT
    XMLElement("Processos",
    XmlAgg(XMLElement("Processo",
    XMLForest(T.ID as "Id",T.CODIGO as "Codigo",T.DESCRICAO as "Descricao"),
    XMLElement("Funcionalidades",
    SELECT
    XMLAgg(
    XMLElement("Funcionalidade",F2.ID)
    FROM TWBASEDB.LISTA_UNICA_FUNCIONALIDADE F2
    WHERE F2.ID_processo=T.ID
    and f2.ACTIVIDADE IN ('1_ACTC1','1_ACTC2','1_ACTC3','2_ACTC1')
    from
    select distinct P.ID,P.CODIGO,p.DESCRICAO
    FROM TWBASEDB.LISTA_UNICA_PROCESSOS P
    INNER JOIN TWBASEDB.LISTA_UNICA_FUNCIONALIDADE F ON P.ID=F.ID_PROCESSO
    WHERE ACTIVIDADE IN ('1_ACTC1','1_ACTC2','1_ACTC3','2_ACTC1')
    order by p.id

  • BUG: Export DDL and Data fails for mixed case table/column names

    Hi there,
    I have found a bug in SQL Developer. See details below.
    Description:
    When "Export DDL and Data) function is used on a table/columns not named in UPPERCASE, sql generated by SQL Developer is invalid.
    Steps to reproduce:
    - open SQL Developer, connect to DB
    - make a table named "lowerCase" (in double quotes, so it won't be automatically changed to capital letters)
    - you may also add some columns, for example "lowerCol1", "UpCol2", ALLUPCOL3
    - add some data rows to the table
    - choose Tools -> Export DDL and Data
    - check exporting of tables and data, on "filter" tabs choose your "lowerCase" table
    - press "Apply"
    Error:
    Generated SQL contains invalid INSERTs: mixed-case table and columns are referenced without obligatory double quotes, which yields an error when generated script is executed (see below, relevant line is underlined)
    -- DDL for Table lowerCase
    CREATE TABLE "DBO_HT"."lowerCase"
    (     "lowerCol1" VARCHAR2(100),
         "UpCol2" VARCHAR2(100),
         "ALLUPCOL3" VARCHAR2(100)
    -- DATA FOR TABLE lowerCase
    -- FILTER = none used
    -- INSERTING into lowerCase
    Insert into lowerCase (lowerCol1,UpCol2,ALLUPCOL3) values ('lc','uc','auc');
    -- END DATA FOR TABLE lowerCase
    Remarks
    SQL Developer: version 1.2.1, build MAIN-32.13
    Oracle DBs: 9.2 & Express
    OS: Windows 2000 Professional
    If you need any more details/testing, let me know. I'd really appreciate a quick patch for this issue...
    Alternatively, do you know of any other simple way of copying a single database (it's called a schema in Oracle, right?) from one computer to another? Possibly something so simple like detaching->copying->reattaching mdf (data) files in SQL Server... I thought that this "Export DDL&Data" function will do, but as you can see I couldn't use it.
    I just need a simple solution that works - one operation on source to stuff, get the resulting files to other computer and one operation to have it running there... I think that such scenario is very basic, yet I just can't achieve it and I am simply not allowed to spend more time on it (read: our test project fails, my company rejects my "lobbying" and stays with MSSQL :/ )
    Thanks a lot & bye

    Thanks for your reply.

    You're right. I just wanted to give some very short feedback on my experiences with SQL Developer, so I didn't think starting new threads would be necessary, but as I was writing it became much bigger than I initially planned - sorry about that. I will make proper threads as soon as possible. Having "Edit post" button on this forum would also be useful.
    ad. 2)
    Generally, you're right - in most cases it's true that "switching DBMS is a major commitment" and "you will produce terrible code" if you don't learn the new one.
    However, I think that you miss one part of market here - the market that I think Express is also targeted on. I'd call it a "fire&forget databases" market; MySQL comes to mind as possibly most common solution here. It's the rather small systems, possibly web-accessed, whose data-throughput requirements are rather modest; the point is to store data at all, and not necesarily in fastest way, because given the amount of data that is used, even on low-end hardware it will work well enough. What's important here is its general ease of use - how easy is to set up such system, connect and access data, develop a software using it, how much maintenance is needed, how easy this maintenance is, how easy are the most common development tasks as creating a DB, moving a DB from test to production server etc. There, "how easy" directly translates to "how much time we need to set it up", which translates to "how much will the development will cost".
    Considering the current technology, switching the DBMS in such systems is not necesarily a major commitment and believe me that you will not produce terrible code. In many cases it's as simple as changing a switch in your ORM toolkit: hibernate.dialect = Hibernate.Dialect.OracleDialect vs MySQLDialect vs MsSql2005Dialect
    Therefore, in some part of market it's easy to switch DBMS, even on project-by-project basis. The reason to switch will appear when other DBMS makes life easier => development faster. From that point of view, I can understand my colleagues giving me an embarassing look and saying "come on, I won't read all these docs just to have db copied to test server". And it doesn't mean "they are not willing to learn anything new", it's just that they feel such basic task should have self-explaining solution that doesn't require mastering any special knowledge. And if they get such simple solutions somewhere else, it costs them nothing to change the hibernate dialect.
    I think Oracle did the great job with introducing the Express to this "fire&forget" market. The installation is a snap, it just works out of the box, nothing serious to configure, opposite to what I remember from installing and working on Oracle 9 a few years ago. In some places it's still "you need to start SQL*Plus and enter this script", but it's definitely less than before. I also find the SQL Developer a great tool, it can do most of what we need to do with the DB, it's also much better and pleasant to use over Oracle 9 tools. Still, a few basic things still require too much hassle, and I'd say taking your schema to another machine is one of them. So I think that, if you do it well, the "schema copy wizard" you mentioned might be very helpful. If I was to give any general advice for Express line of DB/tools, I'd say "make things simple" - make it "a DB you can't see".
    That's, IMHO, the way to attract more Express users.

  • XML Standard for B2B Integration

    Hi B2B Gurus-
    One of our client is looking at implementing a B2B solution using Oracle B2B to send and receive business documents with its Trading Partners (Suppliers and Banks).
    The typical transactions as of now would be:
    1. Purchase Order Outbound to Trading Partners
    2. Advances Shipment Notice and Invoice Inbound from Trading Partners
    3. Payment Files Outbound to the banks
    The client will not be using EDI or Rosettanet standards. They are looking for XML standards ONLY.
    I understand that Oracle B2B supports cXML, xCBL, ebXML, OAGIS etc
    Can anybody please suggest which XML standard is the best for the above mentioned B2B transactions.
    Please note that the back-end ERP system in our case is Oracle E-Business Suite R12.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Dibya

    Hello Dibya,
    RoesttaNet is a XML based standard but if I am right then your client does not want to use it.
    Deciding a document protocol in B2B communication is mutual agreement based process between the trading partners, so I think your client should first check with it's TP's that which document protocol they would prefer.
    Still if I have to give personal opinion, then I would go for ebMS because it has support for SOAP standard using which you may even connect with web-services of your TP (if they do not have a B2B product). Moreover, I can define my own message structure in ebMS (obviously with my TP's ack) and have CPP/CPA import functionality. There is also a PING-PONG message facility in ebMS to test connectivity between TP's. Apart from this there is also ActionName based agreement identification support for ebMS.
    I would suggest you to ask your client to discuss it with their TP's and then take a decision.

  • Setting new cell variant for an alv table column

    Hi,
    I want to set a new cell variant for a column. Therefore I did the following steps:
    1. Create an object of CL_SALV_WD_CV_STANDARD
    2. SET_KEY( 'CELLVAR1 )
    3. set_cell_design([..]-goodvalue_medium )
    4. SET_EDITOR( lr_alv_input_field )
    After that I added the cell variant to the column by using the method "add_cell_variant".
    The last step is to call method SET_SELECTED_CELL_VARIANT.
    I checked my program by using get_selected_cell_variant( ) and the return string was okay.
    But when the table is displayed, the new cell variant isn't working. I defined an input field as the cell editor for my new cell variant but when the table is shown, it is just text - no input possible. In addition to that the selected cell design (goodvalue_medium , step 3) isn't working. So I think the cell variant is not used.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Hendrik

    Hi
    I wonder if you can help me please, I too am having issues implementing ALV cell changes in WDA?
    I am basically trying to dynamically change the individual color of a cell (not the entire column or row) dependant on certain criteria. I apologies but find that you are the closest resource for any potential information. Please see screen shot below.
    Currently my code is as follows:
    see: www.picasaweb.google.co.uk/dave.alexander69/Pictures#5244416971466907938
    data: lr_cv TYPE REF TO cl_salv_wd_cv_standard.
    loop at table 1 row data
            loop at table columns
              for the date columns only...
              IF <fs_column>-id(4) = 'CELL'.
               get and set column header dates from select option user input - done
                loop at table 2 row data (table 2 contains date ranges for row concerned)
                  MOVE: ls_zdata-variance TO lv_variance.
                  method 1 - as in sap press WD4A -:
                  lr_cv = cl_wd_table_standard_cell=>new_table_standard_cell(
                                                     view        = view
                                                    variant_key = lv_variance ).
                 as mentioned...
                  CREATE OBJECT lr_cv.
                  lr_cv->set_key( 'VARIANCE' ).
                  lr_cv->set_cell_design( '09' ).
                  lr_cv->set_editor( lr_input_field ).
                  lr_column->add_cell_variant( lr_cv ).
                  lr_column->set_cell_editor( lr_input_field ).
                  lr_column->set_sel_cell_variant_fieldname( 'VARIANCE' ).
                  lr_column->set_cell_design_fieldname( value = 'COLOR_CELL' ).
                  lr_field = lr_table->if_salv_wd_field_settings~get_field( <fs_column>-id ).
                  lr_field->if_salv_wd_sort~set_sort_allowed( abap_false ).
                  the only way I get cell coloring to work - but this is for entire column?
                  ls_zdata-color_cell = cl_wd_table_standard_cell=>e_cell_design-one.
                  MODIFY lt_zdata FROM ls_zdata..
                ENDLOOP.
              ENDIF.
              IF <fs_column>-id = 'COLOR_CELL'.
                CALL METHOD lr_column->set_visible( EXPORTING value = '00' ).
              ENDIF.
            ENDLOOP
          ENDLOOP.
    As you see I am in the dark a bit regarding cell variants and wonder if you can point me in a better direction.
    Many thanks for any help,
    Dave Alexander

  • XML Standard for UI Definition

    Hi!
    I have to implement an engine that will convert one (or more) XML files based on XSD into Java objects to display a (rather complex) user interface in an Java standalone application. Before I start, I would like to know if there are XML standards out there that already allow an easy description of (complex) UIs for Java standalone applications. So far I saw XUL, XAML, XForms and others but these are either to complex or not powerful enough and as far as I know none of them is a real standard yet meaning certified by ISO or W3C.
    To clarify what complex UI means here some examples:
    - I need to define UI elements that are replaced by others at runtime without compromising the UI strucuture (e.g. replacing an editbox with a combobox)
    - I need to define reusable UI elements (reused in the sense of "define a person data sheet as a part of the whole UI once, reuse it in different applications")
    - I need to define multilevel dialog structures where starting from the main window another (modal) dialog may be called
    - I need to implement a binding for the UI elements to flexible JAXB data object definitions
    Thanks for any helpful suggestion.
    Best regard Uli

    Since there seems no straight answer to my problem, I decided to go with XHTML which I might extend by own namespace elements/attributes.

    Please post a concise and complete example. Include table DDL and sample data INSERT statements.
    Cause the solution depends on your actual structure. Otherwise take a look at the
    nodes() method.
    E.g.

    ID INT IDENTITY ,
    Data XML
    INSERT INTO @Sample

  • Standards for creating fields & table names

    Hi All,
    I need to know if there are any SAP standards or standards from clients to be followed in creating new fields, tables & description.
    If there are any such data, please share with me.
    Urgent.
    Regards,
    Pramod

    Hi Pramod,
    mostly we're using a common Term for the field name. The field code is the field name in uppercase using MDM_ as prefix. As you have to replace blanks (a field code does not allow blanks) we use an _ instead. Note: if you want to distinguish between SAP created and custom fields, we recommend using a different prefix! Maybe you can start your Custom field codes with ZMDM or a prefix describing your customer? Currently we cannot enforce this in MDM as the MDM_ prefix is not yet protected. But if you follow our recommendation, it'll ease up your life and of course ours, too, as we can differentiate between SAP and customer fields in OSS messages.
    Edit: regarding descriptions
    If your field is somehow linked with a ERP field, you could reuse the description of ERP for example!
    Cheers
    Michael

    COMMENT ON TABLE TABLE_NAME IS ' FORMATED TEXT '
    thanks

    Yes I have seen the documentation it focuses on the syntex, not on the string restriction to be made as comments.

  • "Select" Physical table as LTS for a Fact table

    Hi,
    I am very new to OBIEE, still in the learning phase.
    Scenario 1:
    I have a "Select" Physical table which is joined (inner join) to a Fact table in the Physical layer. I have other dimensions joined to this fact table.
    In BMM, I created a logical table for the fact table with 2 Logical Table Sources (the fact table & the select physical table). No errors in the consistency check.
    When I create an analysis with columns from the fact table and the select table, I don't see any data for the select table column.
    Scenario 2:
    In this scenario, I created an inner join between "Select" physical table and a Dimension table instead of the Fact table.
    In BMM, I created a logical table for the dimension table with 2 Logical Table Sources (the dimension table & the select physical table). No errors in the consistency check.
    When I create an analysis with columns from the dimension table and the select table, I see data for all the columns.
    What am I missing here? Why is it not working in first scenario?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    SP

    Hi,
    If I understand your description correctly, then your materialized view skips some dimensions (infrequent ones). However, when you reference these skipped dimensions in filters, the queries are hitting the materialized view and failing as these values do not exist. In this case, you could resolve it as follows
    1. Create dimensional hierarchies for all dimensions.
    2. In the fact table's logical sources set the content tabs properly. (Yes, I think this is it).
    When you skipped some dimensions, the grain of the new fact source (the materialized view in this case) is changed. For example:
    Say a fact is available with the keys for Product, Customer, Promotion dimensions. The grain for this is Product * Customer * Promotion
    Say another fact is available with the keys for Product, Customer. The grain for this is Product * Customer (In fact, I would say it is Product * Customer * Promotion Total).
    So in the second case, the grain of the table is changed. So setting appropriate content levels for these sources would automatically switch the sources.
    So, I request you to try these settings and let me know if it works.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • How to increase width of the complex table column in Agentry?

    I am using Agentry 6.0.38.1 client and Smart service manager 3.0 and Agentry 6.0.32 plugin, developing for Android client
    I increased no of characters for that complex table column in Agentry editor still its width is same in Android device.
    How can I increase the displayed width so that values in that column will not truncate?

    Hi Merten,
    I'm using Agentry Android client v6.1.4.179 (latest one). In Work Manager Add Component screen, Plant and Item ID fields's edit type is Complex table drop down and Complex table search respectively.
    Now we have requirement to fixed Column Width of this fields. Kindly let me know if there is any way to fix this. if than how?
    Thanks-

  • Data Model: Relational Tables/Columns Naming Options

    Hello,
    My design consists of several Relational models.
    1. Using Logical model properties, I defined Naming Options (Max. Name Length, Character Case, Valid Characters) applicable to all Entities, Attributes and Views.
    2. But for Relational models, Tables/Columns/Views Naming Options (Max. Name Length, Character Case, Valid Characters) can only be defined per Relational model and not for all the models.
    Question: Is it possible to define Tables/Columns/Views Naming Options (Max. Name Length, Character Case, Valid Characters) applicable to all Relational models? If yes, please inform me.
    Thanks
    Chiedu

    Andrey,
    When You select all the columns, you need to hold the Shift key to select all. Don't let it go to do the copy. So, still holding the shift key, right click for the context menu. The menu only has 2 items, Copy and Delete. Now Copy. Then you can go to the diagram and select paste, to paste them in each of the tables you want those columns to appear in.

    UPDATE tablesubtype
       SET SUBTYPES  = TRIM (SUBTYPES);Doing RTRIM alone will not suffice coz it'll only remove Right Spaces and NOT Left ones.
    I guess, in your case doing a TRIM will be more beneficial to be safe and prevent any left spaces in future.
    For intermediate spaces... try this.
    UPDATE tablesubtype
       SET SUBTYPES  = REGEXP_REPLACE (SUBTYPES, ' ', '');Hope this Helps,

  • Frame 9 solution for table column + side head does not work in Frame 10 and 11

    In Frame 9 structured (DITA) we could force Frame to record the actual widths of table columns in the DITA XML.  Frame 9 would respect the widths when opening the file.  This was particularly useful for forcing tables to be wide -- to go across the column and the side head -- and for the columns to never resize.
    In Frame 9 this was done by commenting out the line
    "writer use proportional widths;"
    like this
    "/* writer use proportional widths; */"
    in the topic.rules.text" file located in
    "...\FrameMaker9\Structure\xml\DITA\app\DITA-Topic-FM"
    This no longer works in Frame10 and Frame 11.  Even though the same line is commented out in all the "NAME.rules.txt" files in all the subdirectories of
        "...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app"
    and
        "...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA\app"
    and
        "...\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app"
    and
        "...\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA\app"  .
    Commenting out the line does force Frame 10 and 11 to record  the absolute column width (2.357" etc.) in the DITA XML.
    However, on Open,  Frame 10 and 11 force the table to fit in the column, not the column and sidehead. That is they behave as though they were still using proportional column widths.  It seems the original values (as inserted by Frame 10 and 11 before closing!) are recalculated on Open, thereby mimicking the default proportional width behavior.
    For example, this on Save then Close from Frame 10 or 11
    <table frame = "topbot" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1">
    <tgroup cols = "4" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1" outputclass = "FormatB">
    <colspec colnum = "1" colname = "1" colwidth = "1.796in" colsep = "0"/>
    <colspec colnum = "2" colname = "2" colwidth = "1.852in" colsep = "0"/>
    <colspec colnum = "3" colname = "3" colwidth = "1.179in" colsep = "0"/>
    <colspec colnum = "4" colname = "4" colwidth = "2.152in" colsep = "0"/>
    goes to this on Open then Save:
    <table frame = "topbot" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1">
    <tgroup cols = "4" colsep = "0" rowsep = "1" outputclass = "FormatB">
    <colspec colnum = "1" colname = "1" colwidth = "1.351in" colsep = "0"/>
    <colspec colnum = "2" colname = "2" colwidth = "1.393in" colsep = "0"/>
    <colspec colnum = "3" colname = "3" colwidth = "0.887in" colsep = "0"/>
    <colspec colnum = "4" colname = "4" colwidth = "1.618in" colsep = "0"/>
    Any help at all would be appreciated!
    We have 8,000 to 10,000 pages to PDF in the next few days and about 33% of those pages are messed up tables!

    Hi...
    Unfortunately, I don't have any insight into the default DITA table handling in FM10 or FM11 .. so can't give you the answer you're looking for. Since both FM10 and FM11 offer ExtendScript, you could write a script (or have one written) that processes all of your files to reset the table widths. Or, perhaps the best short term solution may be to reinstall FM9 to get the job done, then spend more time later to figure out a better solution.
    One alternative would be for you to use DITA-FMx, which supports the table/@pgwide attribute for controlling which tables span the page and which don't. Since your tables probably don't make use of this attribute, it won't help in the near term, but might make sense going forward.
