XMLSocket problem for GPS gateway in VB

I am a student at the University of Staffordshire in the
United Kingdom.
For my final year project I am creating a walking tour of the
university using GPS and Flash on a Smart phone running Windows
mobile 5 with flash lite 2.1.
Now I created a application in VB.net witch receives the GPS
information (it checks all com ports and baud rates) and sends this
to flash via a socket.
All the components work on the desktop. The GPS can even
write away to a txt file or XML with no problem on the device.
I have the following problem.
The connection between flash and visual basic.net on the
mobile device won’t let me send any information. Flash will
return that a connection is made but will not receive any
information. On the desktop this worked fine and I could also see
the client connect to the VB application. How ever this is also not
the case on the Mobile device.
I’m using the following to send the data to the
connected user in the working desktop version:
quote:
Dim myMsg As Byte() =
System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(msg)
myStream = myClient.Client.GetStream()
myStream.Write(myMsg, 0, myMsg.Length)
myStream.WriteByte(0)
myStream.Flush()
The following code is the listener function with handles new
connections:
quote:
Dim client As TcpClient = serverHnd.AcceptTcpClient()
Dim obj As New ClientObj(client)
clients.Add(obj.Key, obj)
I am receiving the information in flash with the following
(simple testing code)
quote:
myXML.onXML = handleXML;
function handleXML(xmlObject) {
msgbox1.text += xmlObject+"\n";
I hope someone can help me out of this problem because I have
very little programming know how in visual basic but as far as I
can see the code looks fine (and works).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for you time

    We were not aware that if an Applicant left their web browser session up past 20 minutes without any activity, the session would expire and redirect an Applicant to the actual PeopleSoft Signon Page, which at point the external applicant would be confused as what to do.
    We need to have the Page Redirected back to the Careers Candidate Gateway Registration Page.
    We tried to change the signon.html to include the CG URL and change the Web Profile Logout Page Value to the signon.html. This caused the session expiration to be redirected to the "Errors Has Occurred" html Page, which we didn't know which html page represented the" Error Has Occurred". Therefore, as a test we changed the entire section for Errors Pages html values to the signon.html and moved the signon.html file up under psftdocs. This change worked; however, what concerns me is changing all the Error Pages html values to the signon.html.
    I don't know if this is really a problem for Candidate Gateway or not because the signin.html is not needed for external applicants, actually there isn't even a logout display on the page for an Applicant to logout gracefully.
    Please advise if you thing the change to the Error Pages html values could represent an issue. We are trying to eliminate anything that would be confusing to an Applicant because actually if they did receive an error more than likely that individual applying for a job wouldn't know how to address it or who to contact for the error. So, we thought it was best to just redirect them back to the Careers Registration Page, which is the signon.html that we changed for all values representing the Error Pages in the Web Profile.
    Does anyone know the correct way or have an example to configure the Web Profile Look & Feel Tab correctly?

    thnx.

    Do you have the local Map data installed on your handset ? Having the data pre-installed on the handset does allow navigation without a data connection, but when only using gps, it can take a while for the initial 'lock' to the satelites (up to 20 minute with a clear view) then after the initial lock it should locate uoi more quickley. The whole system works better with assisted gps and uses very little data, but if you have the latest verion of maps with the pre-installed map data it should work offline !

  • Nokia E6 Searching for position / Waiting for GPS ...

    I have a new nokia E6-00 with Symbian Anna (1 month old). I am very frustrated with the in-built GPS (Ovi Maps). It is working fine when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network, but when in OFFLINE mode it can not locate any satellites. It keeps displaying "searching for position" and "waiting for GPS". What should I do?
    Note: I have only checked Assisted GPS and Integrated GPS as positioning methods because I do NOT want any internet traffic caused by Ovi Maps.

    Hello there,
    I am writing because I am also having similar GPS difficulty with my E6-00.
    Here are the proper problem description and some background info:
    - for the past year, I had been using the C6-00. Its then Ovi Map was awesome, worked great in Asia, US, EU.
    - and before that, I also had the E71 for 2yrs. Again, Ovi Map served well.
    - Both phones only required their built-in GPS to navigate either walking or driving (with "offline" and "mobile data off")
    Now the problem with E6:
    - When "offline" or "mobile data" is off, the GPS simply wont function AT ALL. Like OP said, it gets disconnected soon afterwards. My question is, this is intended for E6? In comparison, the result in E6 seemed like a huge flaw.
    - Navigation / Positioning also seem "messed up". I am in Taiwan, Map version v0.2.43.11. I did a test: I launched both Nokia Map and Google Map on E6. Google map was accurate, showing exactly where I am, but Nokia Map was offset for 500 meters!! This made navigation IMPOSSIBLE!
    Map versions:
    - C6: 0.2.46.103
    - E6: 0.2.43.11 (cannot be further updated)
    Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Waiting for gps

    My nokia N8 Ovi maps neither shows my position  or drive navigation..keeps waiting for GPS but never connects.
    when connected to the WLAN it shows my position but around 1 km far off. i recently upgraded my old ovi maps by version 3.06. the old version 3.04 was fine with no problems.
    tried  nearly all the solutions available over here. CAN NY ONE HELP ???

    @victor_n8
    Welcome to the forum!
    During update process it says that the 00.01.25.114 mapping for v3.04 will be deleted and new mapping 00.02.42.122 for v3.06 will need to be downloaded.
    Try going to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods - temporarily disable all except "Integrated GPS" then go outside away from tall buildings for 20 - 30 minutes required for very first positional lock to be acquired.

  • 5230 GPS fix problem (have gps signal but no gps f...

    hi
    i have a nokia 5230
    software version V20.0.005 / 23-03-2010
    custom version 20.0.005.315.02 / 29-04-2010
    type RM-588
    not updated
    CODE 0597862 - Latest available software for your device Version 20.0.005
    GPS positioning methods:
    A-GPS = OFF (I dont have/dont want data traffic charge)
    IntGPS = ON
    BlueGPS = OFF
    Network Based = ON
    Positioning server use = disable
    Software used:
    Default nokia gps applications - GPS positioning (not the ovi map)
    Nokia sports tracker v3.50(0) (S60 3.1) 2-08-2010 (mostly for GPS logging)
    Garmin XT
    The problem - GPS fix is taking (sometimes) very long periods from 1 - 5 hours or in same cases it does not make a GPS fix. Other times (about 25% of tries) it calculates GPS fix in a few minutes (1-15min).
    I use the GPS only outdoors within open sky and hill/forest (not in urban, tall buildings). Usualy is clear sky or clouds, but not storms.
    The Satellite info page displays me the satelite signals, and usually I have about 6-11 satelites bars and from them about 4-7 with more then 75% signal.It is very frustrating to have gps satelite signal and not have a gps fix. This is obvios a software related problem not a weak gps signal.
    DOES anybody had this issue and know how to solve it? I suspect a firmware bug... but I dont really know.
    Thank you.

    My new 5230 takes ages to get a GPS fix. Nokia suggested the following. It seems to have given me route not found errors but I'm still testing. I reproduce Nokia's suggestion here it case it helps you...

  • Here Drive stuck on 'Looking for GPS"

    Running version 3.0.4087.0 on Samsung Ativ S (in Canada). Nokia Drive seems to find my location without any issues for a short period of time. Later when launching it just shows "Looking for GPS" in the status bar and cannot find my location at all.
    Location services are turned on for the phone and the app. All other mapping apps on the phone (including Here Maps) find my location very rapidly.
    Yesterday I tried uninstalling and re-installing Here Drive but the "Looking for GPS" error is back again today.

    Yup, me too. I love the Here Drive (on my Lumia 810), and it's been working perfectly well until last week. Now it's stuck on looking for GPS and showing as start location the place I was last week when I used it the last time.
    Please, need to get this fixed! Nokia MAPs work just fine but not HERE Drive.
    I have latest updates on both the phone and my Here drive. I uninstalled the app, and re-loaded it yesterday from the app store. Same thing again. Thought it may be due to being inside of the building, went out, changed locations, drove a bit and nope still not working. It's stuck. I've left it running for more than an hour and no luck what so ever.
    A colleague with Lumia 920 has the same problem.
    Not question of having a case covering the antennas either, his does not have a case, I took mine off the case, and the result is still the same, looking for GPS.
    Please get this fixed ASAP!

  • X6 freezes on Waiting for GPS

    HI I have a Nokia X6, and the maps and voice navigation used to work really well, but for the last few weeks, when I try to use it, it freezes on the Waiting for GPS screen and never actually connects.  Have had the phone for nearly 2 years but never had this problem before, altho I don't use the GPS function much.  I believe I have updated all recent software, I did it this morning thru my computer using Nokia software updater.  Any ideas?

    Hey mssndependant, Welcome to the Nokia Forums!
    Have you made sure that
    -A-GPS is activated
    -That you are able to receive packet data
    -You have not maxed out your data plan allowance with your service provider?
    If you have checked all of these and they are all fine, it might be a hardware issue and you will need to take the device to your local Nokia Care point to get your device inspected by a technical expert.
    I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any further queries!

  • Still searching for GPS

    HTC Droid Eris Navigator - When I first got this phone almost two years ago, the navigation worked great.  This past summer it quit working and always said "searching for GPS".  The list of directions part of the program worked okay, and it knew where I was because the eta/miles left kept changing, but the voice assistance did not work.  I called VW and they helped me reset the phone to original factory settings.  This temporarily fixed the nav program as it worked great for about one week,  but then the same problem re-occurred.  I did NOT install any apps after the reset, so you cannot blame the problem on an app.  VW thought it might be a hardware failure, in case the reset didn't work.  Since it worked fine for a while, it seems more like a software problem.  I've been in the same car for the entire two years, so a different vehicle cannot explain it.  I found using this forum frustrating, and the silly "solved" posting about moving away from a building was not too helpful.  I suspect there are engineers at Verizon or HTC that know what is wrong, but their knowledge is not reaching this forum.

    Ann 154,
    thanks for your help.  I just ran GPS Test, the free version, and it was really cool.  Used 6 out of 8 satellites and I am INSIDE my house.  I then went to Nav and it worked fine.  I turned off the "Use wireless networks" in Settings/Location and only have Use GPS satellites checked.  I also turned off some things in Settings/Applications/Running Services.
     I always turn off Navigation by doing "Menu/Exit Navigation" when not using it, to save the battery.
    Regarding other questions by other replys, I do not have insurance on the phone because after my son's insured phone was stolen at the Boat House at Central Park, I learned there was a $50 deductible and and was able to replace his old LG phone for about that amount, so the insurance was worthless in this case.
    thanks to all who responded, i appreciate your help!!

  • Help needed setting up WebUI for Wireless Gateway

    I have a problem setting up a webUI for my demo project.
    I am just doing a simple WSN application measuring temperature on a WSN-3121 thermocouple node, and logging it on a wireless RT gateway NI 9792.
    Then I wanted to create a web UI for it, and display whats in the gateway's UI - see project.
    SO I'm coming up stuck with the web UI.  I've tried reading as much as I can but I still dont know what I'm doing wrong.
    As far as I can see, I need to create a web service in the build specs for my gateway, and place the gateway_main.vi as the vi to use.  Then build it, and deploy it.  Once that has happened and I run the vi on the gateway, I created a webUI as shown in the pic, where it imports the web service from the gateway using 192.168.0.16:8080 - that works fine.
    When I run the webUI, it just sits there and times out.
    I am using LAbview 2010.  Please help.

    Hello markza,
    Your approach to using Web UI Builder and understanding its use case is exactly right, the issue lies in the web service you have deployed. The VI you are building as a web service, i.e. gateway_main.vi, has while loops in it and hence cannot be used as a web service. The reason for the timeout is that your UI Builder app is calling the LV2010 web service and is getting stuck there waiting for the while loops to complete. Also, the cluster datatype is not supported in Web UI Builder so you would have to break up the Wireless Node Sampling Time input into two separate numeric inputs.
    I would recommend creating a subVI out of your code inside the inner while loop in gateway_main.vi. This subVI should have two numeric inputs to replace the cluster (as mentioned above) and not have either of the Start or Stop boolean inputs. Outputs would stay the same i.e. two doubles and a boolean.
    Let me know if that helps you and if you have any further questions.
    Thanks!

    Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click  on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?

    Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
    In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
    After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
    If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
    Reboot and try again.
    If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
    Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
    Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
    Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.
