Xorg radeon glxinfo question

Since fglrx desupported my card I'm using the Xorg driver. glxinfo reports
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 6.5.1
If I am not mistaken this is software OpenGL and not hardware. Is it possible to have hardware OpenGL with the Xorg radeon driver?

OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20060602 AGP 4x x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 6.5.1
The driver is shipped with mesa 6.5.1.
BTW:
direct rendering: No
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20060602 AGP 4x x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.3 Mesa 6.5.1)
Though it says direct rendering: no, it is accelerated: AIGLX is used in this case.

  • Xorg/radeon/i3 lagging when moving between monitors

Hello, I just did a fresh install of Arch on my desktop, and I'm trying to get triple monitors working. My setup is:
    1 x DVI-D on R9 280X (primary display = DVI-1)
    2 x DVI-D on HD 5770 (left display = DVI-1-2, right display = DVI-1-1)
All monitors are identical 2560x1440 (QNIX QX2710) monitors. I'm using the open source drivers (radeon) drivers, and testing this on i3 (the WM i plan to use). I tried doing this with cinnamon, however I could only get 2 screens going at once, primary and another on the 5770.
in order to get all the monitors enabled, once i3 starts up i open a terminal and run:
    xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0 && xrandr --output DVI-1-2 --preferred --left-of DVI-1 --output DVI-1-1 --preferred --right-of DVI-1
This line enables all monitors, which I thought meant it was good. However, it lags. Specifically, it lags when moving mouse from center screen to either of the side ones. It completely locks up for 3-5 seconds, but then it catches up. However, it doesn't seem to lag when I move from one of the side displays to the center.
xrandr doesn't see the monitors until i run --setprovideroutputsource, and it seems to crash my xorg if I setup right screen, then the left screen.
I read online that trying to force accelmethod to exa in xorg.conf.d/ might fix it, however that didn't work. Otherwise, I've read again online that glamor is the cause of this issue. What should I do if that's the case?

    Hi ,
I am having the same issue as your reported, but I am on different hardware, so I suspect it is an issue with something else.  I think these posts are similar so watch them:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=139193
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=140572
The system I am having an issue with was built via a derivative of ArchISO scripts and installed onto a machine.  I don't believe that alone is the issue, but initially I did think it was something wrong with my scripts / configuration.  I merged my /etc of a working system with the one in question and it still does not work.
I looked very briefly at the Xorg logs and noticed that it wants to autodetect input devices, perhaps that could be an issue.  The other oddity I noticed is that I still cannot use slim / xfce.  Initially I built the system to primarily use that window manager to save resources, but even after unplugging devices and logging in, I would get booted back out.
I will look into Xorg to see if there were any changes with auto-detection as well as udev.  Perhaps one of those things is causing an issue.

  • Xorg + radeon crashing

    Hello people.
I have an updated Arch Linux i686 install on an slightly old computer i built a while ago. Everything seems to be working, but after some time after logging in the screen and keyboad freezes and can't switch to any tty or do anything. I was able to ssh to it and this is the Xorg.0.log http://pastebin.com/rRpZ5egk
I've tried disabling KMS with radeon.modeset=0, but no luck.

It says "Option "AGPMode" is not used" even though I set it to 1. Will try increasing this value.
Edit: Also, I noticed that lspci -vv said my card is using AGP v. 3.0, so values 4, 8 are the only valid options I guess, as man radeon says. Also, could it be that 1GB RAM installed on the system is insuffcient? Just an idea.

  • Cannot get xv + xorg/radeon working

glxinfo tells me direct rending is on.
xvinfo spits out a whole bunch of information (so i'm assuming it's on)
my xorg.conf only as "ati" in there, no special options.
when i use mplayer or xine and select xv, it plays, but the window is black.  i can only get xshm working to play videos.  any ideas?  thanks.

  • Radeon Graphics Question!

I have acquired (bought) a nice Radeon 7000 graphics card, on eBay several months ago. Though, I am not having problems with it, I am wondering, if this is an actual Mac card, or if it is a "Flashed" PC card, or if it's just compatible with both? (Which I doubt!??!)
Could somebody enlighten me, and tell me what I have?
The specs on the card, are as follows:
    Card # - 109-85500-00
    Card Model - ATY,RV100
    Vendor ID: - $1002 (4098)
    ROM Name: - ATY,RV100ad_A
    ROM # - 113-85501-226
    FCode Version - 1.94
    NDRV Version - 1.1.0f53
    VRAM Size - 64 MB
It did not come in the original box, just the card alone.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Powermac G3 MT 333   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Overclckd @ 375 Mhz w/75 Mhz SystmBs w/Fan, 80 GB WesternDGTL HD, 512 RAM, Radeon 7000 64MB, OrangeMicro Firewire/USB card
    Powermac G3 MT 375 o'clocked   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thank you for confirming this baffling question I've had for a while.
Now, was this card also known as Radeon 7000 VE? Research from the ATI site points to this.
Another confirmation would be appreciated, but not totally important.
    Thank you for your time!!!

  • ATI Radeon 9650 question

I have an ATI Radeon 9650 taken out of my dual 2.7 G5, will this card work in my G4 Dual MDD 1.25? (not FW800)

    Hi
To use an 8x AGP card in a G4 that supports Apple's ADC connector (like your MDD), you have to tape over a couple of pins on the card.
The following link contains more information:
    http://strangedogs.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=experiments&action=display&th read=1123896576&page=1
    It won't boot up otherwise.

  • K7t266 pro2 radeon 9700 question

    hey
i just recently purchased an ati radeon 9700 pro, i am impressed, but not THAT impressed with it. im reading on anandtech how they get like 100+fps in ut2k3, and hell im lucky to get about 35-40fps in some levels. my 3dmarks2001se score is about 11200ish average, which i guess isnt much to complain about. but just comparing to other people who have the radeon 9700, they can get like 13900 3dmark2001se points. i will list the specs of my system, as i believe my mobo/cpu may have something to do with my performance.
    amd athlon xp 1600+
    msi k7t266 pro2 via kt266a chipset
    ati radeon 9700 pro
    512MB pc2100 (the cheaper stuff)
    1x30GB 7200RPM
    1x80GB 7200RPM
    12x8x32x CDRW
    enermax 350w psu
usb nic etc etc, i dont think the rest is relevant
i realize my cpu is not the greatest out lately, but really is it that much of a bottleneck? and do i honestly need crucial ram as opposed to the cheaper stuff to see such a performance increase? im running high performance bios defaults btw with latest bios, with agp fast write enabled (although in the ati control panel it displays it as off, and it wont let me change it)
    thanks,
    phrowzen

    hey
my number to the left of the cpu socket is 16380-20C and between my pci slots i see "K7T266 Pro2 VER: 2.0"
are the requirements met by my numbers to do the mod?  and also I was looking for that C37 piece, i saw it, but god it is so small, its just a tiny bit to the right of the wording "C37", correct?  I will ask a friend for help on removing this, should my numbers work for the requirements.

  • [Radeon] Identity Question

Is there any way to identify the difference between the RX850XT and the RX850XT PE apart from the clock speeds please?
The reason I ask is that have a RX850XT and the lable on the box says its the Platinum edition ,which is what I ordered ,but after I downloaded the ATI 5.6 drivers the utility in that says its running at standard 850XT speeds ??

    Speedfellow,
If they do not take it back, contact your credit card company and dispute the charge, since you did not get what you paid for.
Now this label looks like an internal one for savastore (Since it is not an MSI Part Number):
and when you couple it with the actual MSI Number on the box:
Savestore should admit that they mislabeled the box and swap the hardware out for you.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • Radeon HD 7730 graphical artifacts (open source driver)

    Hi,
I'm not very familiar with AMD video cards, so I hope there's someone with more knowledge on this topic, who can help me with this issue.
With no xorg configuration I get this artifacts after X starts (same in KDM):
With custom 20-radeon.conf (provided down below) I'm able to get rid of the artifacts but OpenGL compositing in KDE doesn't work:

    Rexilion,
I switched to this config, but it still looks the same as glamor with no accel:
    #Section "Module"
    # Load "dri2"
    # Load "glamoregl"
    #EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Radeon HD 7730/8730"
    Driver "radeon"
    # default value:
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" # glamor or EXA
    Option "SWcursor" "off" # off
    Option "NoAccel" "off" # off
    # Option "ZaphodHeads" "DVI-0" # "LVDS,VGA-0"
    Option "ColorTiling" "on" # on
    Option "ColorTiling2D" "on" # on
    Option "EnablePageFlip" "on" # on
    # Option "AccelDFS" "off" # wiki fix for artifacts upon logging in (desn't work)
    # EXA specific:
    Option "EXAVSync" "on" # off
Option "EXAPixmaps" "on" # on with > 32MB VRAM
    Option "SwapbuffersWait" "on" # on
    EndSection
1: glamor with  Option "NoAccel" "off" - artifacts
2: glamor with  Option "NoAccel" "on" - no artifacts
3: EXA with  Option "NoAccel" "on/off" - no artifacts
But with 2 and 3 OpenGL compositing in KDE doesn't work (resets itself to XRender), and graphics in supertuxkart looks like this.

  • Problems with ati radeon powersaving and vboxdrv

    Hi
I use an old Laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility x300:
    $ lspci | grep -i vga
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Mobility Radeon X300]
, Kernel 2.6.36.1 and the latest xorg/radeon packages.
To use the powersaving features, I have
    echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile
in /etc/rc.local. This works as expected, but when I load the vbox-modules on startup, I get the following errors:
vboxdrv: Trying to deactivate the NMI watchdog permanently...
vboxdrv: Warning: 2.6.31+ kernel detected. Most likely the hardware performance
vboxdrv: counter framework which can generate NMIs is active. You have to prevent
vboxdrv: the usage of hardware performance counters by
    vboxdrv: echo 2 > /proc/sys/kernel/perf_counter_paranoid
    vboxdrv: Found 1 processor cores.
vboxdrv: TSC mode is 'synchronous', kernel timer mode is 'normal'.
vboxdrv: Successfully loaded version 3.2.10 (interface 0x00140001).
AND when after that, when /etc/rc.local is executed:
Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason a0 on CPU 0. You have some hardware problem, likely on the PCI bus. Dazed and confused, but trying to continue
If I disable these modules on startup, everything is OK, so it seems that the vbox-driver has something to do with it.
Do I have to worry about this and is there a fix for this problem?
    Regards,

The panicks i get are quite rare . I checked the memory recently (memtest) and was ok. My motherboard has a firmware problem where it misroutes irqs. Could this be the root to my problems?? And if its not the motherboard FW related to this how can i determine which HW part fails.

  • Restore hp pavilion dv6 with disk

I need to restore my laptop. It keeps asking for the disk, but I never made any.  Is there any way I can find a download?

    Hi,
    There are two options available.
    1.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - these will reinstall the operating system, all required drivers and nearly all of the original software ( the exception often being trials of MS Office ).  They will also re-create all the original partitions, including the Recovery Partition.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
    2.  Another option you could consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn ( Note: You may want to de-select the additional software offerings during the installation of ImgBurn ) to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  The Windows Image source is Digital River.
    Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

  • Solaris x86 Inquiry

    I want to run Solaris 10 11/06 on a:
    Celeron 2.7Ghz
    256 MB RAM PC2100
Intel i810 Integrated Graphics - PCI (Disabled in BIOS)
    ATI Radeon 9200 SE - 128MB AGP 8x
    80GB HD
Only want to use it for E-Mail/Newsroups/Web Surfing, Development and maybe Light Web Hosting.
The main concern I have is the video card. Will it work with a Radeon 9200 SE?
If the System will work then I can see myself spending some cash to up the RAM to 512 or maybe adding a 1GB stick (and thus 1 1/4 GB), but Linux is OpenSUSE 10.2 Linux is running quick enough for my needs so if Solaris/JDS can be as responsive as it I can definitely see myself switching.
There are things about Solaris that make it a more attractive venue than Linux; most notably less package bloat and Sun's ability to produce fine quality developer tools and server applications (Web/App/etc.) for the platform (things work better when everything is from one vendor, plus I can see myself buying a support contract if I can run it with only a RAM upgrade).
Any thoughts/responses appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    - Nate.

Since I don't have the ATI Radeon 9200 SE video card here, not 100% sure.
But, it seems be supported by the Xorg/radeon driver.

  • [SOLVED]: xserver crash on logout.

Note: This problem is solved. The video setting in BIOS is generally set to "Auto" which takes away 72 MB RAM and only 312 MB is available for the OS. When I checked new Ubuntu 9.04 Beta Live CD I changed the BIOS setting to minimum to maximise the available memory for the Live CD. The same setting (inadvertently) continued for the installed Linuxes. I changed the BIOS setting once again to "Auto" and crash has disappeared.
I am using Archlinux since Oct 08. I have multiple WMs and GDM for logout/login. I am unable to logout and re-login to another WM since about a month (or may be more). I have latest stable packages of Arch.
My graphic card is ATI Radeon IGP 345M which works on Xorg radeon driver.
In order to sort out this problem I disabled GDM in /etc/rc.conf and used startx. After killing X either through logout or Ctrl+Alt+Bksp I could not start X once again but got this error:
    error setting MTRR (base = 0xdc000000, size = ...... type=1) Invalid arguement.

    $ dmesg | grep mtrr
    mtrr: no more MTRRs available
Please note that last line 'reg07' is getting added after startx. I think if I can somehow delete this last line may be I can start xserver once again.

I added 'nopat enable_mtrr_cleanup' to grub line but my xserver still crashes on re-start. Perhaps the crash is not related to MTRR.
Adding that line, however, reduces the no of entries in /proc/mtrr:

  • Instead of background image I see portions of my desktop

I have a new video card (ASUS Estreme AX300) (ATI Radeon 300 chipset). Now web pages with background images (e.g. http://slackbuilds.org) are clobbered with other parts of my desktop.
I suppose the Xorg radeon driver is the problem. Yet Seamonkey 1.1.18 does not have this problem.
Do you have any hints other than installing the proprietary ATI driver (I tried, but Slackware is not offered)?

Thank you for your patience X423424X.  Hense my handle as “I don’t have a clue” other than to do much more than to turn my Mac on or off.
Obviously, I didn’t know how to use the Go to Folder in the Go Menu until now, so that helps a great deal.
I had previously opened the Library folder and scrolled down to the folders you suggested  and did it several times so I’m a bit flustered because there were tons of plists in the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders.  HOWEVER, they are no longer there so I’m even more frustrated now.
Now there are no items in either the /Library/LaunchAgents or the /Library/LaunchDaemons folders and the only thing in the /Library/StartupItems is the NortonPersonalFirewall folder which includes NortonPersonalFirewall, a Resources Folder that includes an English.lproj folder with Localizable.strings and a StartupParameters.plist
When I opened the Login Items in my System Preferences there are no items listed.
    Thanks again for your patience,
