XSL and Oracle Objects

I am creating a stylesheet to transform an XML document into the proper format to put it in an Oracle table. However, the table was created using several objects. How do I reference the tags for those in the the stylesheet so that they will insert properly?
For instance I have the following types:
create type EPOCHDTG_TY as object
(EpochYear NUMBER(4)
EpochJDay NUMBER(3),
EpochDayMonth VARCHAR2(6),
EpochTime DATE);
create type HEADER_TY as object
(MessageDTG EPOCHDTG_TY,
MessageVersion VARCHAR2(4),
Sourcecenter VARCHAR2(4),
RTE VARCHAR2(4));
I'm guessing the tag for the EpochYear would be <Header.MessageDTG.EpochYear>. Is this correct?
BTW, I've ordered your Oracle & XML book, Steve. Can't wait for it to get here as I'm sure it'll be a big help.
Thank you for your help.

The easiest way to know what the right format is for insert is to select a single row of data out of the table using the XML SQL Utility (or XSQL Page, which uses XSU under the covers) with a page like:
<xsql:query max-rows="1" connection="demo" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
select * from yourtable
</xsql:query>
This will give you straight away the "canonical" format that the insert is expecting to see.

  • Concurrency and Oracle Object Types

    Hi All,
    I have a question regarding Concurrent usage of an Object type in Oracle.
    I have a java program which calls an Oracle stored proc with the object's table type as IN parameter. In my stored proc, I am populating an Oracle Object with data received from java and retrieving some data based on that.
    My java program can be invoked concurrently by 500 users at the same time - the application is built to handle that request load.
    Now in Oracle, if a bunch of requests are received at the same, would Oracle create multiple instances of this object type that would be usage to the multiple stored proc invocations? Or would there be a prob of concurrency?
    If multiple instance creation is not supported, is there some alternative I can use?
    My code roughly resembles:
    Object:
    contains two columns - name, age
    Stored proc - logic to retrieve and return data from a table based on the name, age received.
    When a bunch of requests access the stored proc simultaneously, will a bunch of instnaces of the object type get created? Or would there be a scenario where the object is common to all requests and hence data from one request would be conflicted due to data from another request?

    Hi Wiiliam
    Sorry for the late acknowledgement (i dozed off!).. Thanks for the response. So the private instance specific to a session ensure that theres no conflict between multiple requests to the same stored proc and hence no conflict of data... Great

  • ERD and oracle object types

    Is there a good way to model oracle object types using ERD's in designer 6i. I can only figure out how to map to tables with columns of predefined datatypes (varchar2, number, date, long). I'd like to use designer to create new datatypes. Is this possible? Thanks.

  • JDBC 8.1.6 Connection Pooling and Oracle Objects

    I managed to make OracleConnectionCacheImpl class work and I noticed one very strange thing:
    when I use simple SQL, connection cache works as good as single permanently opened connection but when I return Oracle objects with nested datasets in my result set performance degrades 10 times to compare to the same sql in case I am using single permanently opened connection.
    I am using custom classess generated by JPublisher to access the objects
    Example:
    Single permanently opened connection
    Simple SQL - 0.1 sec
    Objects with nested datasets - 0.5 sec
    Pooled connection
    Simple SQL - 0.15 sec
    Objects with nested datasets - 5 sec

    That's all fine and dandy until you try to use JNDI with it. If you create the instance and setMinLimit() when a client tries to get a connection from a JNDI lookup it throws an error saying something like: " user credentials don't match"

  • Require help on Array of Nested tables and Oracle Object type

    Hi All,
    I have a scenario where I have some millions of records received from a flat file and the record is stored in Table as below:
    Tablename: FILE_RECORD
    Rows:
    FILE_REG_ID = 1
    RECORD_NBR = 1
    PROCESSED_IND = U
    RECORD= 00120130326006A
    FILE_REG_ID = 1
    RECORD_NBR = 2
    PROCESSED_IND = U
    RECORD= 00120130326003
    1) I have to read these records at once and
    a) Split the RECORD column to get various other data Eg: Fld1=001, Fld2=20130326, Fld3 = 003
    b) send as an Array to Java.
    2) Java will format this into XML and sent to other application.
    3) The other application returns a response as Successful or Failure to Java in XML
    4) Java will send RECORD_NBR and the corresponding response as Success or Failure back to PLSQL
    5) PLSQL should match the RECORD_NBR and update the PROCESSED_IND = P.
    I 'm able to achieve this using SQL Table type by creating a TYPE for Each of the fields (Flds) however the problem is Java cannot Access the parameters as the TYPE are of COLUMN Types
    Eg: For RECORD_NBR
    SUBTYPE t_record_nbr IS FILE_RECORD.T010_RECORD_NBR%TYPE;
    Can you please let me know how I can achieve this to support Java, I know one way that is by creating an OBJECT TYPE and a TABLE of the OBJECT TYPE.
    Eg: T_FILE_RECORD_REC IS OBJECT
    FILE_REG_ID number(8), RECORD_NBR number (10), PROCESSED_IND varchar2(1), RECORD varchar(20)
    Create type T_FILE_RECORD_TAB IS TABLE OF T_FILE_RECORD_REC
    However I'm facing a problem to populate an Array of records, I know I'm missing something important. Hence please help.
    It would be helpful to provide some guidelines and suggestions or Pseudo or a Code to achieve this. Rest all I can take up further.
    Thanks in advance,

    I know once way that is creating a OBJECT TYPE and a TABLE of OBJECT TYPE, howeve I feel I'm missing something to achieve this.You're right, you need SQL object types created at the database level. Java doesn't know about locally defined PL/SQL types
    However you can do without all this by creating the XML directly in PL/SQL (steps 1+2) and passing the document to Java as XMLType or CLOB.
    Are you processing the records one at a time?

  • How to use Oracle objects in java code

    Hi all!
    I'm reading an xls and i need to fill me oracle objects with java code:
    OBJECT_NAME OBJECT_TYPE
    LETTURA_OBJ TYPE
    LETTURA_OBJ TYPE BODY
    In the past weeks i've been using both java code into oracle and oracle objects, but new i need to write those objects with data i read with java, anybody can help me?
    I know that the easiest work around would be to put the data i read from the excel file into a table and then fill the oracle objects, but now i want to learn how to write directly those objects with a command like the following one:
    a sample of the code i'm tryng to write:
    CREATE OR REPLACE AND RESOLVE JAVA SOURCE NAMED REPORT."Manage_Excel_ASMBS" AS
    import java.io.*;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import jxl.*;
    public cass ....
    #sql{  variabili_globali.var_ER_F3.Tipo_Lettura := 5}

  • Need Expert Advice regarding oracle and java objects

    In our project, we are submitting data for many screens at a time. Some screens will have a list of records to be submitted. There is also some hierarchy among the data up to 4 levels.
    In such a scenario, we need to know the best way to exchange data between Oracle and Java. Currently java holds the data as objects, where each object may contain an array of next level of objects in it.
    Is it best approach to pass the entire data with hierarchy to Oracle using nested table approach and internally oracle handling the data? Is there any other way to do this?
    Also in some scenarios we need to pass the entire information for all the screens in one shot with the hierarchy. So we need to know a solution for that also. Could you please help us in this regard?

  • Differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI and Question BAM  Data Objects

    Hi,
    I have two questions.
    1. Can someone tell me differences between Oracle BAM and Oracle BI?
    My understanding about Oracle BAM is, we use BAM to build Dashboards or Reports.
    We can also build DashBoards or reports using Oracle BI.
    I am not able to understand why Oracle has two tools for same purpose?
    Which tool is more powerful and user friendly(Oracle BI or Oracle BAM)?
    2. Every time we plan to develop Dashboard or report in BAM, we need to create BAM ADC Data Object to store Data (i.e first step is to get data from external database or application and second step is to store data in BAM ADC data object).
    My understanding is we have an extra step(i.e creating Data Object) in Oracle BAM to develop a report or DashBoard
    I am wrong pl correct me?

  • Oracle object cols and inserts

    hi,
    i have a type defined as follows
    create type foo
    a number(10),
    b number(10),
    c date, d date);
    now i use this in a table as follows
    create table test
    foo_obj foo default foo(-1, -1, sysdate, sysdate) not null,
    foo_name varchar2(100) not null
    now what im really interested in is when i do
    an insert id like to specify only some of
    the values for a given obj
    aka
    insert into test(foo_obj, foo_name)
    values (foo_obj.a(10), 'test')
    so the rest of the values for that obj
    come from the defaults specified..
    ive been unable to find examples for the above method in the 8i docs & any help here
    on the correct syntax with an example would
    help enormously

    Also note that object relational database design is often less performant and scalable than relational. It is not very often used in production environments.
    However, the object orientated programming feature that is provided with Oracle object feature set are used and can make development and interfaces a lot easier.
    So in a nutshell. Say no to ref and nested table columns. Say yes to most of the other object features. IMO of course...

    I managed to find answer for question 1, yet to find answer for 2 and 3.
    Answer for question 1 --
    Data objects : store and access business data (tables, indexes, sequences, index-organized tables, etc);
    Code objects : process data objects but them don't contains business data (functions, procedures, packages, views, synonyms);
    Now, here i have a question - under which objects queues are considered ?

  • Oracle and business object!

    hi!
    we have oracle 10g on rhel4.
    we do have business object XI
    even if i have restricted the permissions for the users, why do i see all the schemas and there objects like CTXSYSM, DBSNMP, SYS when i connect throught the universe of BUSINESS OBJECT XI.
    may be it is because by default all users have the privileges which the pseudo role PUBLIC has and when we install oracle, there are so many privileges like insert, update,delete, select on many objects in the schemas which are given to public by default.
    can i seperate a user from the public privileges?
    kind of ... revoking public (role) from the user???
    thanks

    since public pseudo role has a lot of privileges (select, insert, execute, delete) on many of the objects in CTXSYS, SYS, DBSNMP schemas. Also a user can run a select on ALL_ and USER_ tables and views from the dictionary.
    can i restrict a user to view the ALL_ and the USER_ views from the dictionary and should see only the objects which i give explicit priviliges.
    also can i revoke the privileges which are defaultly given to PUBLIC from a user???
    (all users have the privileges which are there with PUBLIC, and defaultly PUBLIC has a lot of privileges at database creation time)
    please help me to resolve the security threat!
    thanks

    My question is i m transferring this XML to a third party webservice and it does inserting into a third party application.
    The problem is if you look under EnquiryAttribute tag ENQATTRIBSTRINGVALUE and ENQATTRIBTYPECODE i need this to be in lowercase.
    As the xml is getting automatically generated how do i achieve this. I feel them in the uppercase is causing problems at the other end.
    Any help appreciated

    Use "..." delimiters in the CREATE TYPE (and in all your code that references the type).
