Yearning for Sun Certified Java 2 Programmer

Hello all Java ppl out there.
I have been programming in Java for about 3 years now. A few months back I sat for this exam but failed by 2 points. Hence I was very disheartened and told myself not to get myself certified again. Recently I've been thinking about this certification and was thinking if I should re-sit again because I would very much want to be certified. Its a kind of achievement in my life. But how do you think I can improve my programming skills? The way the exam test is like I have to think like the Java interpreter!!!! Most of the time I rely on the compiler to tell me my mistakes!!!!
Those who sat for the exam, can you tell me how I can improve or what good materials I can read? I'm more of a hands-on kind of person and is weakest in I/O operations and GUI.

It gives you a quite good understanding about the java language. Even though you have years of experience, you would still learn something new by reading that book, unless you have really studied the Java Language Specification.
It's not something you would normally think about because you just let the compiler check if your code can compile, and then you test your program to see if it works as expected. A lot of the questions are like that as you have already seen. :)

  • Verify A Contractor Is A Sun-Certified Java Programmer

    Hi,
Is there any place on the Sun website -- or any other way -- that I can verify that someone is in fact a Sun-Certified Java Programmer?
    Thanks,
    hotquietday

Professional student, indeed. 2/3 of the people I work with have the cert - one of them is my manager (he used to push bytes, so that's not as odd as it may seem). Did their performance increase after studying for it? You betcha - because before the studying they were just using Java, not "grokking" it.
On the other hand, I've interviewed candidates with the usual alphabet - and they could not write a single line of code on a whiteboard because it wasn't an IDE! They could parrot, from the books, exactly what the GC does, but did not understand it.
The solution to the OP's question is - take it at face value. But you must also certify, for your own self, that the person does know what they're doing. If they can prove that they are capable, then the cert is probably "worth" something. If not... <shrug>

  • Missing assignment objectives for Sun Certified Java CAPS Integrator

    Hi everyone
I'm going to propose myself to take the exam for this certification, but the page that describes it does not provide any details about the objectives. The page I'm talking about is located at http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-502.xml . Can someone give me a hint which are the details ?
    Best regards,
    Samuel

He quoted the Javadoc which says you have to have the source code available for the Javadoc you are trying to inherit. All I am doing here is restating that, which really is pointless and valueless. It needs the source so that it can copy the documentation you want to copy, which I would have thought was obvious in the first place >
ejp, there is no need to be such an arrogant jerk responding. It is not my fault if you are having a bad day.
    I wrote above:

I am not here to get a smart ass response with such an arrogance and attitude.

    Hi Muasif,
The following is just my personal opinion regarding your question. Other people can have other opinions.
    1. Does Sun employs Java Certified Professionals, if
yes what are the procedures?I am not a Sun employee, however I do not believe Sun only employees Java Programmers, or Certified Professionals. Certification is very important however, it shows to your potential employer what you can do. However you must also put in the mix your attitude towards work, and how good you work in a team. It is a good think that you aim to work directly with Sun (From what I understand) however I believe that could be hard.
    2. Does any know particular job sites or particular
job companies hiring Java Certified Professionals.
    3. I am Sun Certified Java Programmer 5, I seek job
in USA. Can anyone tell me about job sources in the
USA where I can apply and get job. Currently I am not
in USA.Basically you should not be searching for companies hiring Java Certified Professionals, but only for companies searching for Java Programmers. I know in the UK there is a site called monster.com that specializes in finding jobs for people. In the US I never worked and thus I do not know. What I would sugest is to first see where you would like to go in the US. Remeber that over there you will do more then Just Work! after see what job opportunities are there in that area.
Again I am sorry if my post does not satidfy you. I wish you all the luck to find work in the US :) Remember Europe is not such an ugly place either :)

  • I am planing for Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services (CX-310-220)

    Hi,
I am planing for Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services (CX-310-220) certification. Can anyone please provide me the resources for preparation?
Can anyone suggest me which books/author/publications best helps me to get good results in exam? Any books/author/publications available over internet to download and prepare?
    regards
    gaveesha

yes, that's the only decent book covering most of the exam curiculum (but NOT all of it, check the exam specs versus the book content to know what you are missing).
I'm working on the same material, and boy is it a lot...
Dry, boring stuff most of it.

  • Using Linux/Red Hat/Intel for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server

Anybody have any experience of this? We're looking to get off AIX, and Total Cost of Ownership for using Solaris/Sparc versus Linux/Intel is very similar.
The decider will be if no-one is using Linux as a platform for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server....
    Any feedback would be appreciated....

We run Directory 5.1 in production on Solaris/Sparc, but I've tried it with sucess on Red Hat 7.2 on Intel. We have not been able to get it to work on Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 or 3.0. The main problem has been that the administration server fails on startup. Obvious the lack of support for the latest enterprise class Linux is a huge drawback. At this point I've decided to stay on Solaris/Sparc until Red Hat comes out with its own release of Netscape's Directory. When that happens we're going to evaluate whether to move the whole environment to Red Hat. The Sun and Netscape servers are almost identical in terms of features and performance, but having an open source version that can run on less expensive hardware would be a terrific win for us.

  • How can I get a certified java programmer ???

Hello to all Java Programmer out there!!
Can somebody tell my what I must do to get a certified java programmer?
You can send me an email to the adress [email protected]
    Thank you!

Wow, 5 responses, only one of them valid! Then again, a statement like that begs to be picked on! Anyway, another good site would be www.jchq.net. Lots of good resources, but I also suggest going to B&N (or some other big book-seller), and get a certification book. My general rule of thumb is, the bigger the book, the better. That's not always true, but it's good to go on. I'm picking one up this weekend, hopefully. Study, study, study!!!

  • For becoming a Sun Microsystems certified java programmer...

Is that enough reading this book:"The Complete Java Certification Succes Guide" without having a cours from Sun?
i'm not a programmer from beginner level. and which one is better for you: becoming a PROGRAMMER or a DEVELLOPPER?? what is the difference ebtween these choice?
    Thanks,

You can pass the Programmer exam without a course. Read books and take as many mock exams as you can (start with www.javaranch.com) until you feel you have mastered the material.
Programmer certification comes first - you cannot take the Developer cert without passing the Programmer first.
The Programmer cert is an exam only and focuses on Java syntax - you learn to be a "human compiler".
Developer cert is an assignment and a follow-up exam. It takes a significant amount of work and you need to show competency in design, coding, networking, Swing, and file i/o.
The Web Component Developer cert is exam only and requires knowledge of Servlets and JSPs.
