Yoga Tablet 2 With Windows 8.1 as a Point of Sale Device and Clerking an Auction

First of all, the touch response within Windows 8.1 is excellent.  I do physical labor and my hands have a lot of calluses and scars on them and I've always had problems using touchscreens.  It's thus a joy to use this tablet with Windows, as I must say that the touch response is excellent.
Clerking an auction in the company I am with using  Android and Windows are pretty much similar. However, the differences come at the end of the auction during checkout.  Using Android, the bidders still have to queue up at the checkout counter to have their credit cards scanned and their pick tickets and receipts printed.  With the Yoga 2 with Windows, I can scan their cards with a Windows app and the camera and print their receipts wirelessly through our wireless printer.
We recently opened a store in the auction facility and decided to use the auction program as a Point of Sale application.  We figured we could use tablets and the program would give us a good accounting of sales and expenses and inventory control.  It worked!!  We've been using tablets for awhile now and was able to do away with all the paper except for the pick tickets and receipts.
To start with, we have to enter the inventory in the system.  It's time consuming with pen and paper, it all has to be counted and then transferred into the computer.  Using the tablet, it's counted and entered into the system all at once and there's even the ability to take a picture of the item being counted and entered also.  Each item is assigned an item number which is labeled on that item. We also take consignments, we have the ability to list the products by consignors and generate a report so we know what we need to pay the consignor at any given time.
(The Yoga Tablet 2 with the dashboard open.  The Yoga Tablet 2 is on the left.)
Anybody who wants to purchase an item in the store or bid on an item at one of our auctions has to register and be issued a buyers number or a bidder number.  We can enter their email address on this form and send them coupons or sale notices.  A buyer or bidder can opt out of this if they so desire.
Once a buyer is registered, they are now free to purchase an item in the store or bid on an item in an auction. For the most part, this is the window that a clerk will see.
Once the items are sold to the buyer, then it is time to check out.  Enter the buyer number in the box and options will come up to pay, either by cash, check, credit card or Paypal and this is where a tablet with Windows comes in handy because Windows will recognize a credit card scanner and will print receipts wirelessly to an online printer.  Android will also scan a credit card, but I haven't been able to get Android to print from an online printer yet.
The Yoga 2   makes an excellent Point of Sale device, it is light, fast, small, and it runs cool.  There is a video below that shows the hands on experience.
Thank you Lenovo for giving me the opportunity to try this out.

  • Autodesk Revit on Yoga 3 Pro with Windows 8.1 not working

I have just started working with my new Yoga 3 PRO with Windows 8.1, and have found that it has compatibility problems with Autodesk Revit (2014 & 2015).  This is perhaps a graphic driver issue.
Does anyone know of any solutions/updates that will resolve this? Or a way to communcate this back to Lenovo?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have been running Revit 2014 very successfully for months now - There is
probably a limit to the size of projects that will run efficiently on 8GB
of RAM, but most small/medium size project will be fine.
    I love it!

  • Yoga Tablet 2 10'' Windows fährt nicht mehr hoch

    Hallo,

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive.   I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes.   With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE.  In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files.   When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive.  I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive.   Can anyone help?    I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world.   Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me!  Help !

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

  • Yoga tablet 2 8" (Windows 8.1) (black)

This is the tablet I am interested in. I have seen the 10" version (with keyboard) @Bestbuy.  Immediately see the value of the build-in kickstand. Love the build quality (the look and feel), the overall design aesthetics (with elegantly angled profile), the black color scheme (the black screen naturally meshes with the rest of the body; dislike the silver color scheme for the Andriod version), the sound quality of the front-facing speakers, and the form factor. The smaller 8" version should be even better for me.  8" seems to be the smallest Windows tablet (with FHD, 1920x1200; 283 ppi ) that can be effectively used, and the largest tablet that can be easily carried around.  I will use it primarily as a tablet for media consumption.
Has anyone had any first-hand experience with this tablet?

No keyboard, meaning you need a third party keyboard to make it work. In general, it's extremely portable, and if you'll believe me, it follows me to to bathtub. Touchscreen is rather imprecise when scaled to 100%, but there's an app out there that turns part of the tablet into a virtual touchpad for more precise clicks.
Expect to use it mostly in the portrait mode, so a taskbar on top is a pretty good idea, since the touchscreen becomes a bit imprecise towards the edges.
regarding headphone placement; it can be somewhat inconvenient to have the headphone out on the lower left bottom, but it's even more inconvenient to have the power button in that location, because if you press it by accident, you'll suspend the laptop.
It also feels like the battery is a little short in comparison to its 10 inch cousin, but it has a smaller battery, and the innards are the same except for the smaller screen.
In all, a good screen, a good weight, a good form factor. Main negative is the lack of corresponding keyboard. Could have a few bugs fixed, and the processor could be a bit better, but then battery life would suffer.

  • Proper user manual for yoga 11 s with windows 8

    Hi,
I wanted to use the camera on my yoga and first of all the quality of the picture is awful but that is not the main issue here. How can i save the picture (it offers delet or cropp only), and i do not know anything at all about making video with this product. The user guide for this is simply a guide but not a proper manual. Apart from the user manual and harddisk maintainance manual i cold not find a decent one for covering issues that a real user manual usually does. Not on the web, not on lenovo`s sites, nowhere. Any idea about this? Thank you

Yes, the license allows 2 installs for the owner's personal use. You can check this in the license agreement if you wish.

  • For those who run Windows 8 with bootcamp: Do you update windows 8, with windows update? I have the latest bootcamp drivers, and never checked for updates on windows. Do you normally update windows 8?

Windows 8 has been running very well after installing it with bootcamp and its latest drivers.
I just have never updated Windows 8 itself, (windows has never checked for updates), and just has been
using it bare. Do you update windows 8 to the latest updates with windows 8, and have any problems
with the updates? Just curious before I start updating it for once.

You have to update Windows to the latest version with Windows Update and keep it updated, because this is a matter of security. Microsoft provides a lot of security updates and you have to install them even if you have got an antivirus. Then you can find other updates, and if you want to install Windows 8.1, just install all updates with Windows Update, and then go to the Windows Store and download Windows 8.1.
Apple says that Windows 8.1 is not supported by Boot Camp, but people say it works without any problem with the most recent drivers, so I do not find any risk after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

  • F4280 wireless printing windows 7 64-bit, not showing printer in "devices and printers"

    Hi,
I am a little confused. Today I installed windows 7 64-bit on my acer 9423wsmi notebook. I installed my hp f4280 via a usb cable. It prints and scans. Now I try to install my wireless kit (came with the printer) which worked fine an vista 32-bit sp1. I looked up every driver etc. on hp.com and found the install guide for windows 7. Everything went as described and printing works even without the pc adapter. You might say what is the problem. Well I noticed the wireless (copy) isn't listed under "devices and printers". I found this a bit strange. I tried to install a printer via the windows wizard. But using the network option gives me the shared copy. And using a the usb02 virtual port to which the printer is connect yields the same result: a fully working printer but nowhere to be found in "devices and printers". I searched the internet for a solution but my search results get cluttered with support for the installation.
    My questions:
Is this normal on this system with these settings?
Is there a way to let the printer appear in "devices and printers"?
    Kind Regards
    Carnelain

    Hi Flash,
I still haven't fixed the problem. I assume you found this installation guide. If I follow this I still can't see the printer in "device and printers". But when I open a document (notepad, word) I can see the printer listed in the printer dialog. So I am able to print. Printer properties are a bit hard to reach but it works. I am still hoping some wizz kid from hp to come up with a solution . Keep me posted if you know something more.
