Yosemite Filesystem Issue

13' 2013 MBP
I've had yosemite installed for several weeks and working without any issues.  Today, it said it needed to restart to do an update.  I performed the update and then after rebooting and logging in the system hangs at 50%.
If I boot with the command + v option, we get a few notable errors:
Checking catalog file.
  Incorrect number of thread records
(4, 25886)
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking catalog hierarchy.
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 1294540 instead of 1294538)
Checking extended attribute file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
Repairing volume.
Rechecking volume.
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
The volume name is Macintosh HD
Checking extends overflow file.
Incorrect number of thread records
(4, 25886)
And it just kind of repeats.  I've tried rebooting into recovery console (command + r).  From here, if I run disk utility it doesn't report any errors.  If I fsck -yf again it doesn't report any errors.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

After attempting command + s and several other repair options, I'm now just having to do a complete wipe and re-install.  A bit of a pain, but hopefully this will work...

  • G DRIVE won't mount! is Yosemite the issue?

Hi all. So I'm trying to mount my 2TB thunderbolt g drive on my iMac 5k (OS X Yosemite), and it just won't mount. It doesn't even show up in disk utility.
I know the drive probably is not the issue, because I tried it out on my macbook pro (OS X Mavericks), and it mounted instantly. Is Yosemite the issue with this? Has anyone else run into these problems??

Do you have another Thunderbolt drive that you can use (or borrow) to make sure the Thunderbolt port on your iMac 5K works?

  • Another Yosemite speed issue

This is yet another Yosemite speed issue. I've done some reading around and read the FileVault can cause an issues, I took a look and I've always have FileVault disabled.  I installed EtreCheck and the results came up with a lot of RED and "FAILED". Unfortunately, I have no clue how to being to read this and was hoping someone could shed some light onto this for me.
Here are my results: (Just trying to right-click and paste this took almost a minute)
    Problem description:
Installed OS X Yosemite and now Macbook runs extremely slow. I have had FileVault disabled the entire time.

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

Were you able to resolve this issue? I have the same machine -- V245, Solaris 10 -- which is exhibiting the same behaviour.

  • Imac 24" - 2008 with yosemite - bluetooth issue?

    Hello everyone,
My computer was working fine after downloading yosemite, but all of the sudden (I haven't installed any software or hardware prior to this issue)
I have received this panic report a couple of times after attempting to run a diagnostic by holding "D" (it didn't work)
The reason why I tried running this diagnose is because my bluetooth is out of commission and my booting time is anywhere from 2.5 - 5 minutes.
I'm able to see the bluetooth icon, but i cannot turn it off or pair to anything. I have deleted the plist file and I also did the "pvram" (spelling) and another reset and didn't work.
could someone take a look at this report and Hopefully shed some light on the issue?

I have a different prolem - my Apple Wireless Keyboard will not connect.  This started after the latest update installation.  After "removing" the device (in Bluetooth Preferences), it will find the keyboard, but will not pair with it.
    Any suggestions, anyone???

  • OS X Yosemite RAM Issues - kernel_task

    Hello,
Looks like I have a memory leak somewhere.  I'm unable to pin it down.  My kernel_task is taking too much memory and it force yosemite to kill window manager, not a good thing
Can you help me out?  I'm really considering a roll back to maverick, but before doing this maybe there's hope to fix this for good..
I also removed cleanmymac as I was requested in other thread of people having same issue.

Hello greg, I uninstalled cleanmymac and forticlient( even if I need it).   Nosleep is very useful to prevent my mac to drop all my rdp connections.  Here's a new etrecheck output to confirm my clean up:

  • "exists in filesystem" issue while making PKGBUILD for a python module

    This is the package. http://packages.python.org/vcs/usage/vc … n-commands
Its already not in the AUR, so I decided of making the PKGBUILD http://sprunge.us/XVTA
Now, when I try to install it, I get this error
    shadyabhi@archlinux /tmp $ sudo pacman -U python2-vcs-0.2.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

    So, what should be done?

Added a note to the python packaging guidelines about not putting a directory named "tests" directly in "site-packages". Hope it helps avoiding this issue in the future.

  • Yosemite download issues related to cooling fan

I have spent over 10 hours on the phone with tech support, and 4 days attempting to resolve a download problem on my MBP.  After upgrading to Yosemite I attempted to update my primary software package for work and the download continues to stall during download.  Apple care told it was the Software's company's fault, the software company pointed me back to Apple.  Apple pointed me back to them and they pointed back to Apple - I just want what I have paid for to work as advertised.
Here is where I am at now:  I will begin the download and it will progress like normal, then the cooling fan comes on and the download with stop.  Several times the progress of the download, in percentage, actually shows to decrease - meaning it goes backwards somehow.  I cancel the download and restart the software the cooling fan stops, I restart the download and after a random amount of time the coolings fans start again and the download stalls.  I know that this sounds very unrelated but since I noticed this connection it has done it every time since and I have went through this process at least 12 times since first making the connection.
I have followed all of the steps from Apple's senior advisor in checking settings and troubleshooting.  She told me that it was the software's problem.  The software company tells me their servers are good and then shows me the mountain of reports from Yosemite users that are having similar issues.  Meanwhile I'm stuck with a $2500 dollar MBP and a $3000 software investment that I can't use for the purpose that I bought them.  When I told Apple care about the fan issue they inferred that I was crazy to think that the cooling fan could be connected - maybe I am.

It's not clear to me if this is an issue within the software package such as with a download feature within a particular software package or software distribution mechanism, or if this is something weird with OS X Yosemite that's causing a problem elsewhere that's effecting this download.
Who is the third-party vendor, and what is the package?  Is there a posting from the vendor pointing to the issue?
Has the third-party vendor plans to offer an alternative download path, which would seem reasonable for a case such as this with a "mountain of reports" involved?
Given your long discussion with the vendor and with Apple, have there been specific suggestions you've tried and found haven't worked?  Otherwise, we're just going to repeat some of those.
The cooling fan gets involved when something goes compute-bound or otherwise starts looping, either due to a design problem or due to a bug.  Adobe Flash Player tends to spool up the fans, for instance.

  • Yosemite NVIDIA issue on MacPro 5,1

I'm getting visual noise and screen rendering errors. It started when I upgraded this Mac Pro 5,1 with an SSD drive and fresh install of Yosemite 10.10. I had previously been using 10.8.5 on a conventional drive with no issues. The graphics card is an NVIDIA k5000 attached to two 27" Apple Displays via display port and a 50" Panasonic video monitor via HDMI.  A few dozen times each day I'll see interface noise (see example in attached image). This occurs in my most used apps, including Finder, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Safari. This problem only occurs on the Yosemite OS on the SSD drive.
I am using the latest drivers from NVIDIA; CUDA Driver Version: 6.5.18 and GPU Driver Version: 10.0.43 310.41.05f01. I downloaded the NVIDIA Driver Manager. Selecting and restarting using either the "NVIDIA Web Driver" or the "OS X Default Graphics Driver" does not resolve the problem. I've also tried enabling ECC which does not solve it. I then replaced the K5000 with the original ATI Radeon HD 5770. The ATI does not have this problem, only the K5000. I then thought the card was dying or becoming defective, which didn't make sense because everything is clean when using the boot drive with 10.8.5. Despite my reservations, I purchased a new PNY made NVIDIA K5000, the same as the first, and the problem persists. The K5000 cards are not defective as both of them always display a clean interface in 10.8.5. It is clearly an issue with the K5000 on a MacPro using 10.10 or 10.10.1.
Anyone else experiencing GPU issues like this on Yosemite? I've seen many postings about other GPU issues but mostly with laptops. Apple or NVIDIA, are you aware of this? Also, where can I submit a bug/issue report to Apple and NVIDIA?

I'm having the same problem (and more) on my 2014 Retina MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.2.
Two days ago the CUDA Preferences panel said there was an upgrade, and installed CUDA Driver Version 6.5.36.
In Activity Monitor "aerendercore" shows as "not responding" around 10 times a day. Premiere crashes 2-3 times a day.
I checked nvidia website, and they had a 6.5.37. Installed that, but same issues.
CUDA Panel also says "GPU Driver Version" is "10.2.1 310.41.15f01" ... not sure if that is something that can be updated.
    I'm rebooting 4-5 times a day.
Not sure what to do ... have you had any luck?

  • More Yosemite memory issues

Whoa. What is happening here? I've been monitoring the Activity Monitor this
last week, and this evening the memory values seem to be going crazy (see screenshot).
What is backupd and why is it using 51 GB of memory? And why is kernel_task suddenly over 9 GB?
I can feel my MacBook Pro retina late 2013 13" with 16 GB of RAM slowing down, and the "memory pressure" is way up.
I hate having to restart because I have so much work open, but I guess I have no choice.
Any idea what might be happening?
    doug

Yes, it must have been a memory issue with Time Machine. I see the last backup was some 9 hours ago, so I guess it has been sitting there twiddling its thumbs since then, eating away at memory.
I restarted. Fortunately it only takes a minute with the SSD drives. All the same apps and windows are open as before, but as you can see in the screenshot, memory is back to normal.
Plus there is no more input lag. Everything is fast again.
It must be a memory leak or something in Time Machine I imagine.
After restarting and forcing Time Machine to "backup now" it finished the backup successfully very quickly. And while backing up it was way down in the list, using only 25 MB of memory.
I think in this case there is no doubt it's another Yosemite memory bug of some kind.

  • Apple Remote Desktop Admin 3.7.2 Yosemite wake issue

Another serious problems is.... Apple Remote Desktop Admin 3.7.2 in Yosemite cannot wake up clients Mac remotely. Control has no problem after waking up.
On 10.9.x I can wake up remote Mac clients if sleeping. Now I have to do it on the other Mac running older OS version.

    I have a different issue.
Just updated s classroom full of computers and desktop client will no longer observe more than on computer at a time. I can no longer observe groups of computers. Any thoughts on this issue guys? Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10

  • [SOLVED] Case-insensitive filesystem issue

    Dear fellas,
I am trying to compile an AOSP rom using the following configuration:
    - Arch Linux x64
    - Latest Kernel 3.12.8-1-ARCH
    - BTRFS filesystem
    I got the following error:
build/core/main.mk:118: You are building on a case-insensitive filesystem.
build/core/main.mk:119: Please move your source tree to a case-sensitive filesystem.
    build/core/main.mk:120: ************************************************************
    build/core/main.mk:121: *** Case-insensitive filesystems not supported.  Stop.
So far, I was compiling with no issue. It just starts a couple days ago. I suspect that maybe is due to some kernel change.
    Anyone already face this issue?
    Appreciate any clue.
    ========================SOLVED==========================
Here is the solution presented by korn36 that did the magic for the main issue:
Remove this from build/core/main.mk, then compile:
    ifneq ($(HOST_OS),windows)
    ifneq ($(HOST_OS)-$(HOST_ARCH),darwin-ppc)
    # check for a case sensitive file system
    ifneq (a,$(shell mkdir -p $(OUT_DIR) ; \
                    echo a > $(OUT_DIR)/casecheck.txt; \
                        echo B > $(OUT_DIR)/CaseCheck.txt; \
                    cat $(OUT_DIR)/casecheck.txt))
    $(warning ************************************************************)
$(warning You are building on a case-insensitive filesystem.)
$(warning Please move your source tree to a case-sensitive filesystem.)
    $(warning ************************************************************)
    $(error Case-insensitive filesystems not supported)
    endif
    endif
    endif
It will disable the case-sensitivity check.
    ================edited====================
Again thanks to korn36 for the elegant python switch solution:
    find . -name "*.py" -exec sed -i 's/\(bin\/env\ python$\|bin\/python$\)/bin\/env\ python2/g' {} \;
Thanks to Kacper for heads me up to a typo I made.
    ===============edited=====================
or still other script provided by Scimmia (Thanks Scimmia)
    or simply
    find . -name "*.py" -exec sed -i 's/env python$/&2/' {} \;
Just FYI both scripts works flawlessly!
    Best Regards
    Erick

  • Acrobat installer (acrobatpro11_dlm) hangs indefinitely on Mac OS X Yosemite; known issue?

I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on my machine, and downloaded the installer from cloud.adobe.com (I bought a subscription for Acrobat Pro). However, after I download and launch "acrobatpro11_dlm" from the disk image, the app just sits and does nothing (been waiting a few hours now). How can I debug this?

I just downloaded the latest installer from cloud.amazon.com. Same issue. I tried pressing Command + L after starting the acrobat installer, but I just get a system alert sound (the same sound you would also hear if you click on your desktop background of your Mac, with no files selected, and also type Command + L).
How can I get a refund for the past month, as I've been completely unable to use Acrobat??

  • Yosemite upgrade issue - iMac freeze and cannot boot again

    Dear all,
Two days ago I updated my iMac 27" (mid 2011) from OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion to 10.10 Yosemite.
Clean installation was done via USB, 3 user created one admin and 2 standard users (all with the option increase contrast option on). The following software installed:
    Adobe Lightroom 5.7
    Datacolor Spyder4Elite 4.5.8 (monitor calibration)
    Microsoft Office 2011
    PlayOnMac 4.2.5
    iMovie 2.1.1
    VLC 2.1.5
    Google Chrome
After one day I had the first strange reboot, but than it seemed working fine.
Today while using it, something strange happened: the image on the screen "shifted" 5cm to the left, meaning that the 5cm on the left of the screen were moved to the right and than everything freezed. With a power off I rebooted.
Thinking the issue was related to the screen I uninstalled and removed Spyder4Elite.
I rebooted and it was working fine.
After a while, the screen went almost completely blank, I could see the very top first 3/4 pixels and recognize the top bar. Nothing. After a while I forced a reboot.
I tried to reboot, but the same appears. I turned it off for a bit.
Turinig it on again the following happened:
    Boot screen
    White screen flickering black
    Black screen
    White screen
    Reboot
White screen stating the the computer restarted after an error
Boot screen with pink vertical lines (see image below)
    White screen
    Black screen
    Reboot
    Start again at #7
    Image for #7:
    Image for #8:
I then turned everything off and disconnected the plug as well. After turning on again now everything starts directly at point #7 into an infinite loop.
I tried to start and hold "D" key for the diagnostic tools. Nothing happens boot and whitescreen.
If I hold the option key I can select the boot options, choosing Recovery 10.10.1, white screen appears and than reboot again.
    Does anyone know what happened?
Does anyone else had a similar issue?
Is there a way to run diagnostic tool to check hardware failures?
Is there a way to browse the HD content to save a file?
    Any other suggestions or ideas?
The only thing I have, is the USB key with Yosemite on it.
Fortunately on the external HD I still have the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app": is there a way to create a bootable USB key of Mountain Lion using windows?
Thank you for your kind support,
    blp
ps: ah.. Apple care obviously expired in August...

Before deciding that you can't replace the drive yourself, visit the following site and find the step by step instructions for replacing the drive yourself:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
If you see the instructions and feel that you can replace the drive yourself, you will save money that way. I'm not that familiar with modern iMacs, but I know it was very easy to replace the drive in my old iMac. It may not be as hard to do as you think. If you want extra help, you can post questions on the iMac forum.
If you still don't feel like it is something you can do yourself, try looking for an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your area and see what it might cost to have the AASP do the replacement. Often an AASP can do a repair for less money than Apple, and they will usually be willing to install a drive that you have obtained elsewhere for a reasonable price. From what I have read on these forums, many people have used AASP's to install bigger and faster drives on their machines.
Definitely contact Western Digital about your drive. Usually WD drives come with a 3 year warranty, and if the drive fails before then, WD will replace the drive. KT has mentioned that the drive apparently is not under warranty, but might qualify for some sort of an upgrade. Before shopping elsewhere, check to see if this upgrade might entitle you to a very good deal on a replacement drive or something of that nature.
    Good luck!

  • Yosemite many issues

    Hi,
I hope someone can address these issues. I don't know where I can send my questions. I have iMac late 2013 with Yosemite, iPad mini 2014 with iOS8.1, Apple TV 2 and Time capsule.
Here is what I have problem sofar:
    Airdrop - If I try to Airdrop a link from Safari from Mac. There is a window open, I can see my iPad and the page I try to send, and nothing happens, the system blocks for a while and after the window disappear. Theres is nothing coming on the iPad. If I try to send a photo or a file via AirDrop it works in both directions;
Markup - I attach a photo from my Mac , I can see the small Markup icon on the upper right corner of the photo. I open it and there are different tools appearing - again the windows freezes and I cannot do any modifications on the photo. I have to restart the mail app.
Sound - Every time I restart the Mac the sound icon is inactive - I have to go preferences/sound and I can see that the aggregate device is selected instead of internal speakers -  I have to change the sound output manually.
Launchpad - I have an empty app group which I cannot delete, nor change the names of other groups of apps.
Notification centre - cannot add or remove some of the stocks.
Finder - my iMac name is - iMacs iMac. All of a sudden it become iMacs iMac (2) and latter iMacs iMac (6). What are these numbers ?
    Thank you very much,
If someone could at least tell me where to ask.
    Nice day
    PAvel
I had other issues i.e. wifi for which I found answers already

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Test Markup in Mail using the iCloud account.
Continue testing to see what works in the new User.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.
Finder - my iMac name is - iMacs iMac. All of a sudden it become iMacs iMac (2) and latter iMacs iMac (6). What are these numbers ?
In System Preferences > Sharing you can see name. When Finder adds a number it indicates it's seeing another drive with the same name. You can select to rename but this could also be an indication of issues at the base level.
Do you have an external drive that could be used to clone your drive in case you need to do a clean install?
