Yosemite SMB File Sharing

Scanning from a network scanner is an issue, it doesn't work due to an authentication issue. I believe it has to pertain to device signing in the OS itself but I do not want to make OS changes that I cannot project the lifecycle of. I believe there need's to be a more stable resolution, I was hoping the Yosemite included this option but I reluctant to locate the setting so far. Any idea's?
Please advise.
Thank you

Found the solution:
As explained in this discussion https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/uk.comp.sys.mac/4Za7tMNbK2k
Yosemite is looking for com.apple.GSS.NTLM.plist in /Library/Preferences, which is missing in a freshly installed system.
Thus provide the following content
--- com.apple.GSS.NTLM.plist to be located in /Library/Preferences ---
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
      <key>NTLMv1</key>
      <true/>
      <key>NTLMv2</key>
      <true/>
</dict>
</plist>
and Yosemite 10.10.1 Server will accept authentification by NTLMv1 and NTLMv2. Thus Windows 7 boxes in standard configuration can access the SMB share hosted on Yosemite server.
Best wishes,
Adrian

  • Smb file sharing

We have in our company data center two Macs, a Power PC 8GB ram with Leopard 10.5.8 and a Mac Pro Quad Core Nehalem 32GB with Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and OSX Server 2.2.1.
The Power Pc SMB File Sharing, with the limit of 10 concurrent users, it works perfectly.
Instead, the Mac Pro SMB File Sharing drops randomly SMB sharing with the consequent loss of the changes made by Client to opened files.
Is there anyone else with the same problem?
Is there any solution, in addition to turn off the Mac Pro and switch to a Windows server?

Same problem here with Mountain Lion. Really anxious for a fix!

Yes. It works good however a few tweeks necessary. In parallels configuration I had to change the 1 CPU setting to 2 and allowed a bit more memory. Before that things where a little slow in the virtual macine. Hopefully you are operating with a quad core.

  • STILL can't disable SMB file sharing because of incorrect password error

    Hi Everybody,
A few weeks ago, there was a thread at
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3211072
I'm having the same issue, and it's a real security problem, since I have no way of turning off file sharing for a user account.
The thread discussed the inability to disable SMB file sharing because Lion returned an incorrect password error message for the shared account -- even when the user typed in the correct password. A user named SanderFromH offered a fix at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16773220#16773220
It involves locating and copying the file at /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/<user>.plist
Is this the only way people know to fix this issue, or has anyone found an easier way? If no, can someone please tell me how to locate this file. When I search spotlight for a directory called dslocal, I find nothing. Can someone please provide step by step instructions for fixing this issue?
    Thanks so much.

Hi, and welcome to the community!
So was this Spotify account originally created with facebook and not created with Spotify then linked to facebook? It sounds like it if you login with an email.
Can you log in on the Spotify web player?

  • SMB File Sharing - Account Disabled

I am unable to get SMB sharing working on my Mac Mini under Yosemite.  While I have seen several postings about NTLMv2 sharing and the Windows Registry Key LmCompatabilityLevel, I don't think I'm far enough to use that option.  I am unable to fully turn on SMB sharing as the check-box next to my account is disabled.
I am logged in via my iCloud account.  Could that be part of the issue?  This is rather vexing, so if anyone has any pointers, I'd be greatly appreciative.
    Thanks.

file sharing seems to be working... you will probably have to authenticate prior to beginning the file transfer though, so that is likely what is failing in the first instance.

  • HELP: Yosemite server file sharing not working

    Yosemite server and OS.latest
I have followed all the steps:
    Set up DNS
    Set up OD Master
Added users one at a time, then added them to groups
Added shares in File Sharing and allocated groups to shares
Just in case, I propagated permissions from storage tab
    All relevant services turned on
Problem: when I test the logins from another local machine, either the credentials aren't recognised, or the only share is admin's drop folder; there should be 4 others.
Urgently need to get this running; what on earth can I have done wrong?
    Thanks

"Once credentials are submitted, the share is mounted without the need to select it - is this normal?"
yes , unless there are other shares as options.
"The share I need reports: drwxrwx---@ 22 admin  all-staff    748 16 Mar 14:38 Current Work, so that looks right."
only posix owner and group are allowed which is admin all-staff. Are these groups available in LDAP ?
really you should have something like
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
that little + then allows other users or groups to access the filesystem.
do an " ls -le " to see more
    sample;
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
    ls -le
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
    0: user:_spotlight inherited allow list,search,file_inherit,directory_inherit
---- then I can allow other access rules.
Using the Gui in osx server I gave read/write access to the IT_dudes Group on the Share. *note the group is an active directory group from the NT Domain named BETH.
    This server is bound.
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
    0: user:_spotlight inherited allow list,search,file_inherit,directory_inherit
    1: group:BETH\IT_Dudes allow list,add_file,search,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextat tr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit

  • Lion SMB File Sharing with Windows 7 stops working after reboot

I'm running my macmini with lion 10.7.1.  I have switched on File Sharing and ticked 'Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)' and ticked my user account.  Using the same account name and password on windows and I can access the shares on the macmini fine.
Soon as I reboot the macmini the sharing stops working and Windows just prompts for a username and password.  If I disable and enable file sharing again on the macmini then windows can access it again just fine, reboot the mac and it stops again, is this a bug in Lion or have I not got it setup correctly?

Whatever the issue is, it's still happening for me in 10.7.2

  • Lion SMB file sharing with windows "Access Denied"

In general SMB (windows) file sharing works fine on my home LAN (for Mac and Windows PCs).  However, Adobe Flash CS3 for Windows (Win7x64) yields an "Access Denied" error trying to open any FLA file shared from my Mac Mini home server running Lion.  I have double checked the permissions, and the client windows box is signing in with the correct user/password to have r+w priveledges to the files in question (rw-r--r--/644).
Copying the files locally resolves the issue (but isn't a good long term solution of course).
Is Flash is trying to take some sort of file lock that Lion's SMB/CIFS implementation doesn't support?  Any ideas?

I have this issue as well. and I have it on multiple configurations. My windows machine can't open an fla file on a osx lion share. another person working on the same project (on a different network setup) can't to it either. seems like something broke with lion that was working perfectly fine on snow leopard.

  • Entire "Macintosh HD" shared through SMB File Sharing

I have OS X 10.5.6 installed on my Apple MacBook. I recently enabled File Sharing (SMB). On my Windows XP laptop, navigating to \\macbook now shows the entire "Macintosh HD" as a shared folder. I wasn't even asked for login credentials for my Mac's user account.
File permissions, using the "Get info" function on the Macintosh HD show:
    system: read & write
    admin: read & write
    everyone: read only
I don't know about anyone else, but this is a glaring security issue.
I don't want to tinker with messing with file permissions at the root of the drive, as I have a feeling that could cause some major chaos to all the subordinate folders.
    Solutions?

I don't have a picture sharing site account to use, so I can't post any screen shots. Hopefully, I can describe it well enough.
Say you have a user account called 'bob' on your Mac. On your Mac, bob is an admin user and therefore has access to your entire Mac. If you log into your Mac as bob, you can see everything.
Nothing changes if you log into your Mac from a Windows machine as bob. No matter how bob logs into your Mac, directly to the machine, from a windows machine on you network, or from a dumb terminal in the basement of a hangar on Area 51, bob will have the same access to your Mac.
In the File Sharing options, when you select the account for bob, the entire account is shared. You essentially said, "let 'bob' log into this machine using SMB."
If you just select the option to share files via SMB, you can set access to specific folders for particular users. You can even make up new users that don't have an account on the Mac, but can access folders that you specifically give them access to.
So, for what you want, don't select an account to share via SMB, just select "Share files and folders using SMB."
Now, at the bottom of the file sharing dialog, Add the folders you want to share. Choose the users you want to have access to those folders and set the type of access, Read & Write, Read Only, or Write Only. If you want to create a username and password to access those folders, without having an account on the Mac, Add a person and choose "New Person." That person will be a "Sharing Only" user. You can't log into the Mac as that user, but you can access the specific folders you have set up.

  • SMB File Sharing just stopped working

About 3-4 days ago I found I could not connect to my MacPro via ANY of my computers, Mac and PC alike. If I do a "+netstat -an | grep LIST+" I do see...
    tcp4 0 0 *.139 . LISTEN
    but if I do a "+lsof -nl | grep LIST+" all I get is...
    GoogleDes 174 503 5u IPv4 0x7011e64 0t0 TCP 127.0.0.1:profilemac (LISTEN)
    AppleVNCS 178 503 4u IPv6 0x5c66b2c 0t0 TCP *:vnc-server (LISTEN)
and don't see any other listening services. Perhaps the two most glaring items is that when I look in /private/var/log/log.smbd file I see this...
    2008/07/20 18:48:47, 0, pid=13382 /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.7/samba/source/profile/profile.c:profile_setup(241 )
ERROR: we did not create the shmem (owned by another user, uid 503, gid 503)
    2008/07/20 18:48:47, 0, pid=13382 /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.7/samba/source/smbd/server.c:main(915)
    ERROR: failed to setup profiling
    ... and if I do "+launchctl start org.samba.smbd+" I get this...
launchctl start error: No such process
    and if I do "+smbclient -L localhost+" I get this...
    Receiving SMB: Server stopped responding
    protocol negotiation failed
And yet under System Preferences->Sharing I have "File Sharing" checked, a shared folder set up and myself as the user with Read/Write privileges and under options SMB is checked and I have my name checked under "account". This is as it has been for months.
Obviously my Samba is "injured" and I've run out of ideas on how to fix it short of reinstalling my OS and NOBODY likes reinstalling their OS... nobody.
Anyone have any ideas on what might be going on or more importantly how to fix it? Nothing... absolutely nothing changed on my Mac side when this happened... hadn't even done a reboot in over three weeks.
    I'm baffled.
    TIA

    I had the same issue,
    [2008/12/29 17:32:03, 0, pid=20851] /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.8/samba/source/profile/profile.c:profile_setup(241 )

    [2008/12/29 17:32:03, 0, pid=20851] /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.8/samba/source/smbd/server.c:main(915)
    ERROR: failed to setup profiling
    From Terminal I ran
    % ipcs -m
T ID KEY MODE OWNER GROUP
    Shared Memory:
    m 65536 0x07021999 --rw-r--r-- langdt langdt
    m 65537 0x60022006 --rw-r--r-- langdt langdt
I saw two shared memory entries owned by me (langdt uid 501), I assumed that smbd was trying to run as root and failing because the shared memory already existed. To remove the shared memory
    % ipcrm -m 65536
    % ipcrm -m 65537
Then smbd was able to start and create the shared memory that it required, rerunning ipcs I could see the shared memory now owned by 'root'.

  • SMB file-sharing only works if Firewall is Disabled

On my Mac, I've turned on File Sharing, enabled SMB sharing, and set the firewall to "selected services and applications" (SMB is listed as a service in the firewall application list). I cannot connect to the Mac from a Windows XP machine.
If I turn the firewall off, however, I can create a connection and transfer files from the PC client side. In addition, once I have established a connection I can then re-enable the firewall and continue transferring files.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Jeff

  • Smb file sharing ownership and creation mask

I'm using smb for file sharing with lion. I've created a file sharing only username and password.
The file sharing works as I'd expect with one caviat, the files created are read/write permission of
the file sharing only account. In unix terms the file permissions are set to 600 not 666 or 644.
I'd like to change the file creation mask to 666 (user r/w, group r/w & world r/w) or even 644.
    my /private/var/db/samba/smb.shares file
contains these 2 lines for the [Myuser Public Folder] section:
    create mask = 644
    directory mask = 755
However it doesnt appear as if its honoring these settings.
Alternately if this cant easily be fixed, how can I get a file sharing user
account to write files to my public folder as a different system user?

I have seen many topics created on these discussions with regards to the SMB functionality failing on Time Capsules after 10 mins of operation. Restarting the Time Capsule seems to bring back the SMB functionality but again it stops after 10 mins.
I am not sure if I have a Time Capsule dual band "I" or "II", but I have the firmware 7.4.2 installed on it.
I also read elsewhere that downgrading the firmware to 7.3.2 makes the SMB sharing work again. However, on my model this is not possible since I am using the dual-band model which never had a 7.3.2 firmware version.
So anyone out there have some new tips on this?
I find it crazy that others have called Apple about this problem but Apple support did not verify it and fix it. Really? I am tempted to call myself and try it out because it clearly is problem with every single Time Capsule model!

  • How can I set up SMB file sharing to share my PC external hard drive on my Mac with no password protection?

I am having the worst trouble with two things. I am very aware how to get the server to show up via SMB, but every time I log off the Macbook, the server's disappear. OK, so I went into "System Preferences" and hit "Users and Accounts" and added the server as a log in item. Worked well, except how do I stop that password prompt from coming up? I am using a Guest account with no password but I continue to get the password prompt. There is nowhere to hit remember password or anything. I have the option to remember the password in the keychain but I have no way of preventing the pop up.
Another issue I'm having is I have a Canon Pixma MP620 printer connected to my PC through USB. Three other PC's can connect wirelessly to print through the home network. My Mac does not find the printer, and when I manually add it, it recognizes it but WILL NOT print. It comes up with error messages like Authentican Required and connection issues between printers.
I have no password protection on my PC and have enabled sharing of all devices and folders through the Homegroup on the PC. I just can't figure it out. I am new to Mac and would love to get these two things figured out.
    Thanks in advance for reading!

Hi Bengt, Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
I have a WD 1TIG hard drive and are using usb connection, is it possible to use fire wire with these? I have had trouble with a lot of the videos I Imported, once they downloaded the file in the viewer window showed up blank and when I mouse over them it places a picture of another file in the window and wont drag and drop into the movie window, like their corrupted or something? Had to delete just about all of them and start again. Also is it possible to select a bunch of videos in the viewer window as to change the dates to the correct dates? All I have been able to do is "select all" which is no help.

  • SMB File Sharing only works for Admin Accounts???

I'm using a mac mini as a small file server. It will share files to WindowsPCs using SMB but there is a problem.
On the Option dialog where you select accounts to share files and folders using SMB only Admin accounts show up. This is far from ideal as I'd prefer to using Sharing Only or Standard accounts.
Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

What permissions are you setting on the share?  My guess is you are only using user, group, and other (POSIX).  You need to add an ACL to the list and then set read/write or full control.
