Youview Software Update announced

https://community.youview.com/youview/topics/automatic-software-update-for-february-2015

Hi Adrian007,
I’m afraid that you’ll have to wait for the update to be applied automatically. We are still rolling this out and so hopefully you will get in the next week or two. Apologies for the delay.

My YouView box was replaced by BT on Monday 14/1 it's software  is:
    Manufacturers software 8.7.0
    Component software 1.1.11
    Platform configuration 257
    ISP 27
I have tried to manually force an update of  the software but eveytime I do this I get a message to say the latest software is installed which it clearly isn't.
Do I have to wait for the BT software update announced last week to be applied automatically or is there a way to force my box to update?

  • Availability of BT YouView Software Updates?

Have the latest YouView software updates been rolled out yet to all BT YouView customers?
My box has continually been left connected in stand-by when not in use and so should have processed any availabe updates. Also I have carried out the manual update process several times and it states the "software is up to date".
However when I caheck my box's software version, it is a lower version than the one available via updates in Feb & March 2013. Also noticed that new features such as the "message prompt before deleting recordings" is not available within my Settings/Device Management screen.
So either some of the latest software updates ahve not been made available to all BT YouView customers or there is a problem with my box. However I have no issues other than this with my box and it confirms my software version is up to date when performing a manual software update. Plus the "check for software updates" date keeps updating every day - suggesting that it is also performing the automatic update process whislt in stand-by mode.
Any advice or comments please to help?
Note: I have not performed a Factory Reset to see if this makes any difference because I have many unwatched recordings that I don not want to lose!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks again happyslayeruk.
I performed the Internet/USB Recovery - keep recordings this morning and it all worked perfectly!
Software updated and is fully up to latest available version with extra features I needed PLUS it did retain all my recordings.
So very very pleased and thanks for your assitance
I checked the BT YouView manual again and there's nothing mentioned about going into thie Maintenance Recovery Mode but now I know what to do again if required.

  • Why no Software Update to 8.02? Also why register?

2 questions for the price of one here:
I operate Logic on two machines. On my older (PPC) G5, I got the usual message in Software Update announcing the arrival of 8.02 - woo hoo!
Turning on my newer (Intel) G5 last night, I confidently expected the same...but nothing? I checked, and somehow I'm still running 8.00, mysterious in itself as I'm usually pretty hot on updating. So, question 1, why isn't Software Update picking this up (have I turned off the Logic tab by mistake? If so how do I turn it on again).
Anyway, to fix this I went to download the .dmg file from Apple Support. Bizarrely before it would let me do this I had to (a) log on with my Apple ID (what happens if you don't have one?) and (b) register my software (grrr....which meant hours...well minutes...rifling through paperwork to find the reg number). I've never had to do this before for software - am I being picked on here? Have Apple got it in for me?
    Thanks all
    N

Anyway, you may well have a point re moving the app...come to think of it I moved iTunes as well and that hasn't asked for an update either...thanks for the tip.
Yes, if you move an application out of the 'Applications' folder, Software Update won't find it and therefore never update it. If you want to access the App from another place, leave it in the Applications folder, and create an alias that you can put in the folder of your choice.
I can see your, erm, logic, but that doesn't account for why the other machine didn't require it?
Software Update doesn't require you to put in registration and serial number info, because in order for it to offer you the update, it has to see the application on your system to begin with. If it sees it on your system, presumably you own it, and it allows it to be upgraded without putting in your info. If you go through Apple's website, they have no idea if you own the application, so they make you put in your registration. Your other system had the app in the right place, Software Update found it, and therefore no more info needs to be exchanged.
If you don't have an Apple ID, you they will want you to create one. Then it's just a matter of logging in and putting in your serial number so they know you have Logic. You can find it by opening Logic and clicking on 'About Logic,' no need to go through paperwork.

  • Software Update corrupted my personal files

On my G4 at home, I have 3 hard drives each with 2 partitions. On one drive, I have 10.4.10, another has 10.3.9, and the third (original) has 10.1.8 and OS 9.2.2. On July 22, my 10.4 system was getting slow, so I booted into the 10.3.9 system (which hadn't been used since it was last de-fragmented several months ago) to de-fragment the disk. Before I could do that, Software Update announced that there were 4 updates: iTunes and 3 security updates. iTunes and 2 of the 3 security updates downloaded, but the third one got a red button & said it could not be installed on this machine. I then hit the (required) restart button. The machine crashed hard & wouldn't re-boot even in OS-9 on any disk, & the DVD drive failed also. I finally got it to run the UNIX fsck program under Single User mode, then it re-started on 10.3.9. To my chagrin, most of my personal files stored on one of the non-bootable partitions & backed up to another non-bootable partition) were corrupted irrevocably. Anybody else ever heard of a problem like this?

Whatever the cause of the meltdown, you have just demonstrated the argument against backing up on the same HDD on which you are storing the data you are backing up. If the HDD fails or crashes, so does your backup.
As to why this happened it is difficult to say. What was the third update that could not be downloaded? The download, installation and optimization go all the way before you restarted, or did you restart midway through the process?
    Good luck.

  • Any more news on software update and usage monitor

Sorry to be a pain but is there any fresh OFFICIAL news on when the software update will be available and also when the usage monitor problem will be fixed.
Will there be an announcement either here or by email to everyone?
    Thanks

No, the 'couple of weeks' statement was released on the 13th November, so to the letter that would be next Tuesday. I think people would agree that 'couple of weeks' does not imply a set date, but I would think at the end of next week would be a valid time for people to start shouting 'where is it' if we haven't had an official update.

  • New software update for iPod touch 4th generation? PLEASE HELP!!

Ok so here is the problem: I have the iPod touch 4th generation with software version 4.3 (I have had my iPod for about 7 months) and recently within the past week or so I have started experiencing multiple crashes with many different various apps and games. Just random games crashing and then I noticed it happening with the Facebook app and even Safari on my iPod! I had to get off of my iPod and come on the computer to type this message out because Safari would crash every single time I tried to type this on my iPod! So at first I figured it was the apps and games' problems, but then as more and more began to crash, like Facebook and Safari, I figured it is the Apple software version 4.3 acting up. So I was wondering, is Apple working on a new software update for iPod touch 4th gen.? Or is this a rare problem? Is there anyone out there having this same problem? Or anyone at all that can PLEASE help me?! MANY THANKS!
    - Sam Amos

No one would know what Apple is working on, unless they announce, which they very rarely do.
Have you tried the basics from the manual?
    restart.
    reset.
    restore.

  • Software Update ignores Scheduled Check under Snow Leopard

I've tried asking our local Apple Genius Bar about this, but they weren't able to help me.  Here's the problem:
I've upgraded to Snow Leopard on my late 2006 Mac Pro last year and changed my daily user account from Administrator to User.  I run the Stanford Folding@Home on this Mac 24x7, so it is always on and awake.  I noticed that I stopped getting notified that Software Updates were available.  I regularly check the Internet Storm Center and they announce OS X updates as well as the Microsoft updates.  When I run Software Update, I am challenged for my Administrator account and password (as I would expect) after which the program checks for updates and identifies the updates that are available.
My question to the Genius was why do I have to run this manually when I have set the Software Update preferences to Check for updates Weekly and Download updates automatically is checked?  I have checked this setting from both my user account as well as my Administrator account and they both show the same settings.
Since then, I've added a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard and I set it up with an Administrative Supervisor account and User accounts for all of the family.  The Mac Mini never notifies us of updates, either.  Plus, I supply tech support for my in-laws' Macs and they all exhibit the same behavior.  This has been around since OS X 10.6.3 (the first version I installed) and every update since.  So, obviously, I know how to configure a Mac to break Software Update, but how do I "fix" them to let everyone know that it's time to update the Macs?
Thanks for any help you can lend me.

The software update can be run within a Standard users account it they have an administrators user name and password.  I am thinking that if you set a schedule for an standard user and the account is logged on then software update will not attempt because that use don't have the privileges to change system information.  The Software Update schedule is saved separately for each user of a Mac.  Try leaving the administrators account log in and see if it works.  Note: Thus another user's account may automatically download updates even when your account has them disabled.

  • The software update collection topic

Software updates is a hot topic and this collection thread covers how it works.
All phone models receive a software update every now and then and we always try to optimize the phone performance and features in every one of them.  But the most common questions are “When will I get the update?” or “When will next update be released?”.
First, to get a better understanding of how creating and launching new software updates works I strongly suggest that you read the articles published on Developer World.
    http://developer.sonymobile.com/2011/12/07/ice-cream-sandwich-from-source-code-release-to-software-u...
    And
    http://developer.sonymobile.com/2013/07/25/explaining-the-software-upgrade-process-and-its-improveme...
These articles explain it all from receiving the source code to when the update finally makes it to your device.
As you can read in the article, all updates needs to pass all approvals and certifications before it can be released for your device.
So unfortunately we here at the forum can’t say exactly when this will happen for your specific device but we always try to make as specific communications as possible when announcing new software update roll outs. Always check the product blog for the latest official information about products and software updates.
    http://blogs.sonymobile.com/
All software updates rolls out gradually over time so it might not hit your device at the same time as we present it. To get the latest information about software update availability for your device you should contact your local support team since the updates are based on region and versions.
    http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/contact-info/
There are two ways of updating your phone software.
    1.     Via phone, OTA (Over the Air).
Your phone has a built in application for updating your phone software. This application is called Update Center and can be found in your application drawer or via Settings > About phone > Software update. This application can scan for new software, notify about new software and also install new updates. But note that sometimes Update Center can only notify you about new phone software but not install it. This depends on the update itself and if it can be installed OTA or if the phone needs to be connected to a computer to perform the update. If this is the case you will be informed about that in the notification given to you by the Update Center application.
Update Center will also inform you about the size of a new software update. If it’s a larger update, connecting to a Wi-Fi network is always recommended before downloading the update. This way you can save download data from your network subscription and also download time.
If you don’t have access to any Wi-Fi network and experience problems doing a software update OTA please be aware of that some network operators doesn’t support FOTA (Firmware Over the Air). So if you’re trying to update your phone OTA via mobile networks make sure that your network operator supports FOTA. If yes and you still experience problems downloading the update check if your APN settings have any Proxy details that could block the download. You can check this in the following menu. Settings > More (Wireless & networks) > Mobile networks > APN or Access Point Names > Your Internet APN. Check if any details are set for Proxy and Proxy port. If yes you can try to delete them (temporarily) and save the APN. Now try downloading the update again.
    2.     Via computer
You can use our programs, PC Companion (PC), Update Service (PC) or Bridge for Mac (Mac) to scan, install and repair phone software.
PC Companion is your general managing program for the phone if you’re running on a PC computer.
PC Companion has several other features besides updating software such as backup, sync etc.
Update Service is a simple program for just updating and/or reinstalling your phone software.
Bridge for Mac is the alternative for our Mac users. It’s similar to PC Companion. Bridge for Mac lets you, update the phone software, transfer/sync media files and backup your phone.
If you experience any problems doing a software update via computer, please check the following.
    -       USB ports. If you don’t get any connection with the phone try to connect your USB cable to another USB port on your computer. If you’re using USB 3.0 ports make sure that you have installed the main board manufacturer drivers for them. Still not working please see the USB connection FAQ topic.
    -       Internet connection. If your Internet connection is using a Proxy please check that the Proxy settings are correct in PC Companion by going to Settings for PC Companion in the top right corner > Proxy settings.
    -       Firewall. Please make sure that no firewall blocks Internet communication. Check ignores list or temporarily disable the protection when doing the update.
    -       Anti-Virus. Please check that no security software is blocking the program from running or communicating with the Internet.
If you get a message saying that your phone already has the latest software even if you have seen on the web that a later software version is available, this might not be an error. But as described above, it might not be released for your device just yet. Reasons for this please see beginning of this post.
If you have read the above, tried the tips and still experience any issue please feel free to participate in any of the ongoing discussion topics here on our forum.

    Some things you can try:
    1. See if software update works from another account.
    2. Boot in safe mode.  See if SU works.  If so, reboot normally and try again.
    3. If those don't work maybe you need to delete the software update cache.
        ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
Note there are two plists assocated with SU but I don't think deleting them will change anything since there is nothing significant in them.  They are,
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.XXXXXX.plist
where the X's are a sequence of hyphenated upper case leters and digits.

  • Nokia videos: What are Software Updates & How to d...

    Hi all,
we've been busy in Nokia Care and have been preparing some videos to explain you what the whole software update concept is all about and how you can update your phone over the air or via PC - and how you can use WiFi to save data download costs.
Introduction to Nokia Software Updates (video 1/5) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zwfeCq5ddI
Nokia firmware update over the air (video 2/5) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sXtfv5kk5g
Nokia applications update over the air (video 3/5) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP7oMuVvsa8
Software Update with Nokia Ovi Suite (video 4/5) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADIj1U2m9z4
Setting up Wi-Fi for free data downloads (video 5/5) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFMTv0uSGdc
pS: Those videos cover the whole Nokia portfolio (smartphones & mobile phones) and have been done to support our whole customer base when it comes to "how to do an update". So to be clear: This is not an announcement about Symbian Anna (even if the videos feature some content that will be familiar from previous press releases).

I have this problem after symbian Anna Update..
When i tried solution 1 : it replies me .sisx files not supported
when i tried solution 2: no tmp files found.
Is there any other way? im wondering why it says file not supported.
FA136074: Why is Ovi Store not working after the Symbian Anna update?
This problem is linked to incompatibel QT components. Please do the following:
    SolutionA:
    -          Install the following QT files on the C: drive of your phone in exactly this sequence
            * http://dl.nokia.com/ns/sdo/QtSA4.7.301.sisx
             *http://dl.nokia.com/ns/sdo/QtMobilitySA1.1.301.sis
    -          While you install above QT files you MUST keep the following things in mind:
*Installation must be done to C: drive of the phone. If you by mistake select E: drive, you can cancel the installation and re-install again. If E: drive installation is complete, you can re-install one more time and select C: drive for installation.
*Installation order must be met. First it has to be QT (QtSA4.7.301.sisx).
    -          Start Ovi Store
    B) Solution2:
    - Launch the File manager on your phone (Typically found: Menu -> Applications -> Office -> File mgr.)
    - Choose Options -> Find -> E: Mass memory -> Root folder
    - In the “Find text:” window, type “*.sisx” (without double quote) and the select find.
    - It will display many sisx files starting with “TMP”. Example: TMP3efa4.sisx.
    - Now select Options -> Mark multiple items  and now mark all sisx starting with “TMP”.
    - After marking them select Options -> Delete and delete all of them.

  • New board for Software Updates - read this first!

    Dear Nokia Support Discussions members,
we are happy to introduce this new section for discussing Nokia phone software updates with your PC or over-the-air.
Please use this board to discuss
    - Nokia Software Updater PC application or over-the-air updates
    - latest software versions for each product
    - any changes you notice over previous software versions
    - making a back-up of your phone data
    - problems you may encounter with the update
    etc.
First and foremost, Nokia Support Discussions is a meeting place for Nokia product owners. Here you can discuss Nokia products, ask for assistance and help other people by providing solutions. Nokia Moderators are here mainly to give assistance in using the boards and to keep the discussions on track.
However, these boards are also a feedback channel to Nokia and people from many different Nokia departments actively follow these discussions. Constructive feedback and criticism is valued and always welcome.
We at Nokia Support Discussions do not have any information about when new products are added to the update service - nor do Nokia contact centers. So you just need to keep checking the service webpage or the boards here. I am sure new products are announced here by our alert members within minutes after they have been added.
I wish to remind the community that posting any confidential information about Nokia product software versions will be deleted and may result in a permanent ban without warning.
Below is the introductory letter that we received from the Nokia Software Update Team - please read it for important information about new products and their schedule.
    See you on the boards,
vandelay & Nokia Support Discussions Team
The Nokia Software Updater is a Windows application that enables you to update Nokia mobile device software (firmware) over the Internet using your PC. The application can be downloaded from the Nokia UK Product Support Internet pages at
    www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate
The Nokia Software Updater offers the same updates you would receive at a Nokia Service Centre. The added advantage is the convenience, as you can now easily perform the update yourself from any location with an Internet connection, at a time suitable for you. Keep your phone software up-to-date, or fix a potential operation problem you may have by regularly updating your phone firmware.
In the future, every new S60 product will be compatible with the Nokia Software Updater, but at the moment the application is only available for selected Nokia devices including Nokia 6630, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681, Nokia 6682, Nokia N70 and Nokia N72. During the autumn, the application will be available in different languages on different web pages and many other products will also be available for software updates.
The Nokia Software Updater has been made to be as customer-friendly as possible. All you need is a PC and the standard sales-pack data cable - no dongles, no adaptors, no fuss. A typical update takes around 30 minutes. Plus, you don’t need to wait for your device to be returned from Nokia Service Centre.
    Regards,
    Nokia Software Update Team

  • New school server won't allow "software updates".

I'm a teacher and through grant writing have acquired several Macs in an all PC district. Recently the district installed a new server, and since then I haven't been able to connect to "software update". The IT guy in the district said that if I had a URL of where the downloads would be coming from, he could unlock the location allowing the software update to work. Does anyone have an idea as to what URL, if that's even the right term, I should tell him I need unlocked?
An example, iTunes announces there is a new version and asks if I'd like to download it. I click yes, software update opens and tells me my software is up to date...which it isn't.
    Thanks for any help,
    Dan

    Thanks for the reply,
I could download them individually, but I've got 8 computers, and just having them update automatically is so much easier.
However, I 'm going to give the IT guy the URL you provided. There's a chance that because that site is being blocked I can't download the updates automatically.
Looks like the automatic update mechanism uses a machine called swscan.apple.com. If they can unblock by name, that should be a good start.

  • Software Update wont check for new software.

Software Update wont check for new software.

No - I'm on 10.6.8 and it functions normally, though there are now very few actual updates. If there are no updates the progress bar should still complete in around 3 minutes and announce that there are no updates, so you've got something hanging somewhere. If it's still stuck hit command-option (alt)- escape, select Software Update and hit Force Quit. You could try it again (I should reboot first) in case it's a one-off glitch, but if it still sticks force quit it again.
The best suggestion I can offer is to apply the combo updater anyway in the hope that it may over-write whatever is causing the problem.
