Yum update asmlib workaround
Hello,
We would like some help with our following issue.
In short:
while trying to install/update asmlib with oracleasm-2.6.18-348.el5-2.0.5-1.el5.rpm
a directory-structure containing these modules was expected:
-/lib/modules/2.6.18-348.el5/weak-updates/usm/oracleadvm.ko
-/lib/modules/2.6.18-348.el5/weak-updates/usm/oracleoks.ko
-/lib/modules/2.6.18-348.el5/weak-updates/usm/oracleacfs.ko
For we didn''t have these modules at install time the install failed.
We found a way of bypassing the problem:
We link the 3 modules from the oracle 11.2.0 install environment to the expected /lib/modules/2.6.18-348.el5/weak-updates/usm/modulename
Dillema: for we are Linux-system-managers we are not know for certain whether this is the appropriate thing to do.
Maybe someone can shed a light on this matter?
In our update-script we do:
# Determine Oracle ACFS/ADVM/OKS kernel module location
oracleacfs=$(find /app -name oracleacfs.ko -type f | grep -v i6 | grep -v xen | grep -v SLES | tail -1)
returns:
echo $oracleacfs /app/grid/product/11.2.0/install/usm/EL5/x86_64/2.6.18-8/2.6.18-8.el5-x86_64/bin/oracleacfs.ko
oracleadvm=$(find /app -name oracleadvm.ko -type f | grep -v i6 | grep -v xen | grep -v SLES | tail -1)
oracleoks=$(find /app -name oracleoks.ko -type f | grep -v i6 | grep -v xen | grep -v SLES | tail -1)
#create if not present and fill the kernel-specific usm-directory:
# Process all installed kernels
for i in $(rpm -q kernel)
do
kernel_version=$(echo ${i}|cut -d '-' -f2,3,4,5)
# Check softlinks for Oracle ACFS/ADVM/OKS kernel modules
if [[ ! -e /lib/modules/${kernel_version}/weak-updates/usm/oracleacfs.ko &&

then
echo "Creating softlinks for Oracle ACFS/ADVM/OKS kernel modules; ${kernel_version}" | tee -a ${LOGFILE}
if [[ ! -e /lib/modules/${kernel_version}/weak-updates/usm ]]
then
mkdir -p /lib/modules/${kernel_version}/weak-updates/usm
fi

The above shows to me that the oracleasm package does not contain any installation script or ACFS module.

Oracle linux 6.3: (yum update) [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 18
Hi all,
I installed yesterday Oracle Linux 6.3 in the first time and when I tried to do yum update I got the following error:
[root@ole6 ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, security
http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/latest/i386/repodata/primary.xml.gz: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 18 - "transfer closed with 1639799 bytes remaining to read"
Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from ol6_latest: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks in advanced.Hi Avi,
Thanks for your reply. as I said this is my first time installing Linux so not all the terms are clear to me.
I installed OL6.3 through Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.18.
anyway, I did what you recomanded and it's still not working:

when I tried to download http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/latest/i386/repodata/primary.xml.gz
by IE of my host (Windows) I succeed but when i tried to do the same through Firefox of the virtual machine the download stopped after approximally 15MB which is similar to what happened with the PYCURL ERROR 18 above.
Are there any configuration I need to set in my linux installation or maybe in the oracle virtualbox setting?
Thanx,

OL7 uek issues after yum update to 3.10
I have been running Oracle Linux 7 uek (unbreakable) successfully for a few months, but I just did the update to 3.10 (latest kernel) and now I do not have the Unbreakable kernel anymore.
The update copies it down and installs it but when the configuration completes the uek image is not there and it is not in the grub menu on boot.
In addition, the boot image remains at the old image - not the new one - this normally moved to the newly installed image.
I did another install in an Oracle VirtualBox and have the same results - no uek.
Is this a "new feature" or is the uek installed under one of the images and just not noted on the grub?
Is this a function of yum or do I have to use the packageKit to do the update (should not matter I know - but have to ask)?
Is there a "manual" way to generate the uek image?Sorry, I was not clear on that, I used the yum update. I do not get any feedback from the packageKit, I am a bit old school with this, I like to know what is happening - with packageKit, my machine just seems to go to sleep forever, I cannot tell if it is downloading, stuck or having any other issues (such as network). With yum, I can monitor the progress. packageKit is supposedly a GUI version of yum - so it should not make a difference.

Live Migration Failed After Yum Update on 2.2.2
Hi,
I've live migrated vm's from node2 to node1 (master server). Put node2 into maintenance mode, then reconfigure ntp.conf to sync with our new ntp server. While in maintenance mode, I've also ran yum update which updated the kernel from 2.6.18-128.2.1.4.37.el5xen to 2.6.18-128.2.1.4.44.el5xen. In the process, xen was also updated from 3.4.0-0.1.32.el5 to 3.4.0-0.1.39.el5.
After rebooting, I've put node2 back into active mode. But now I can't live migrate the vm's back into node 2. From node1, ovs_operations.log:
"2012-06-23 11:03:28" INFO=> migrate_vm: vm('/OVS/running_pool/1210_vm05') start...

From node2 ovs_operations.log:
"2012-06-23 11:03:30" INFO=> ha_join_dlm_domain: =>success
"2012-06-23 11:03:30" ERROR=> ha_set_dlm_lock:failed. lock('6f1cb211-ecef-4ac6-af2b-091fc6fd5966') name('1210_vm05')=> <Exception: create lock('/dlm/ovm/f1cb211ecef4ac6af2b091fc6fd5966') failed. <OSError: [Errno 26] Text file busy: '/dlm/ovm/f1cb211ecef4ac6af2b091fc6fd5966'>
Is this due to the different xen versions after the update? How can I live migrate the vm's back to node2 so that I can take node1 into maintenance mode to reconfigure ntp.conf and run yum update?
Thanks!The next thing to try is to work though the steps in [[Error loading web sites]]. Though if this is happening on all of your computers it might have something to do with your internet connection. Maybe resetting that will help.

Hello,
I have a virtual machine set up with OEL4 and Oracle Database 9iR2 installed on it quite a while back. All had worked well at the time of setup.
Couple of days back, I decided to update the OS and ran "yum update" with yum pointing to "el4_latest" repository on oracle public yum server.
However, the "yum update" fails with a transaction error.
I am a newbie with Linux and so am looking for help to figure out what is causing this error and how to resolve it.
Following are the details, I feel are relevant to my problem but let me know if you need any more details.
The error message:
[oracle@localhost ~]$ cat Desktop/yumupdateerror.log

Dude,
Thanks for the response and the link above. But it gives a "404 Not found".
What happens if you try "yum install compat-dapl" prior to using yum update?Now, why did not I think of that clever idea? You were spot on!!!
When I installed compat-dapl separately and subsequently ran yum update, everything worked well.
In the process, I also managed to resolve my original issue (not mentioned here) but yum update looks like a sledgehammer approach to crack the nut.
I have a feeling just updating/adding few packages may have resolved the issue (without having to update the kernel itself, caused by yum update) and discussing it with experts like yourself would have added to my knowledge about linux.
But that issue had virtualbox in the picture and so I was worried some over-active moderator would have blocked my thread and redirected me to virtualbox forum.
Anyway, Thanks once again for your help with this. -
Can i download all packages from yum update website?
i want to download all yum update package from yum update pages http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/EnterpriseLinux/EL5/1/base/i386/ .so i have all the package needed,because the OEL i installed dont have internet access ? btw i already using program website grabber like Intenet Download Manager and it fail...
ThxYou can use your browser and click the RPM's one at a time :)
Or you can use Firefox and get the DownThemAll! extention and use that.
Common methods like:
$ wget -r -np http://public-yum.oracle.com/fail because of the {font:Courier}robots.txt{font} file put there for this very purpose. -
Not able to configure yum update or yum repository on the OVM 3.1.1
I just downloaded the new OVM 3.1.1 but I am having a tough time to configure yum update.
There are no repositories present in the yum.repos.d.
How should I download the repositories so that my remaining packages get installed automatically.Hi,
please check the /etc/yum.repos.d
[root@ yum.repos.d]# pwd
/etc/yum.repos.d
[[email protected]]# more public-yum-ol6.repo
and take a look to the public-yum-ol6.repo for
[ol6_UEK_base]
name=Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux $releasever ($basearch)
baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/UEK/base/$basearch/
gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-ol6
gpgcheck=1
enabled=1
You should set "enabled=1"

Yum update error on OEL 6.5 due to kernel-header mismatch
When I try to install vmware tools it is looking for 3.8.13-44.el6uek.x86_64 kernel headers. When I go to cd /lib/modules/3.8.13-44.el6uek.x86_64 I see a soft link for build pointing to build -> ../../../usr/src/kernels/3.8.13-44.el6uek.x86_64 When I navigate to /usr/src/kernels I find only 2.6.32-504.1.3.el6.x86_64 directory. Thus I try to update using yum update I get the error below. Any help would be appreciated:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

[root@machine2 yum.repos.d]# yum updateWhat exactly have you been typing? It looks like you tried something like yum install kernel*
There are several kernels and you do not need to install all of them. Also keep in mind that Oracle Linux ships with the RHCK and UEK kernel, using the UEK kernel as the default.
I have recently installed the vmware-tools in Oracle Linux 6.5 and did not experience any issues. If I remember correctly, all I did was the following to update to 6.6 including the latest patches and prepare the system to install the vmware tools.
yum -y update

yum install kernel-uek-devel-$(uname -r) -

Any suggestions (other than updating with --skip-broken, which is never a good idea....)?
Thanks,

Yum update problems with iwl*-firmware
Hello,
I install an oracle linux 7 machine and after the installation when I try to apply updates, I get many errors all related to iwl*-firmware.
If I do
yum remove iwl*
Then all the other updates install correctly.
I tried to clean the metadata as indicated in the error message but that didn't have any effect. I also tried « yum clean all ».
Here's the output of the command.
Thanks for the help.

my internet connection is working fine. As I mentionned, if I remove those packages, the other 150+ updates install correctly. As a temporary workaround, I'm doing this before the updates:
yum remove -y iwl2000-firmware iwl100-firmware iwl6000g2a-firmware iwl7260-firmware iwl135-firmware iwl6000g2b-firmware iwl3160-firmware iwl6050-firmware iwl4965-firmware iwl1000-firmware iwl2030-firmware iwl3945-firmware iwl5150-firmware iwl6000-firmware iwl105-firmware iwl5000-firmware
I installed centos 7 to see what happens. When I update, the same packages show up but they update correctly. -
Command line option "-save-to-folder" stopped working after last update: Any workaround?
Running FF on Linux, I was using the -save-to-folder option at CLI to write a copy of the webpage to file with JS content rendered. Worked great until the recent update (to v.27.0.1).
Typical format was: firefox url -save-to-folder filename
When things break, the fixes sometimes happen quickly, sometimes not. In the meantime, anyone have a workaround?[http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2210953&p=12955762#post12955762]?
It will depend if your Linux build was compiled by a third party. Typically if a function like that stops working, uninstalling might be a good option, but maybe not in this case.
The full list are [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options] is this one custom perhaps?
There is an add on [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/save-file-to/ Save file to] that adds a dialogue, but you may want to stick to linux. There is a customize shortcuts [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/customizable-shortcuts/ add on]
-recording-output may be something you can try. Or make a bug! :-)[bugzilla.mozilla.com] -
Flash Player 10.3 and Internet Explorer 9 update and workarounds
Hello Flash Player community,
We are tracking the issues being reported on Flash Player 10.3.181.14 and Internet Explorer 9 and actively investigating them. Users are reporting that Flash content is being displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. We want to give those who are encountering these issues an update.
First, we apologize to everyone affected. We know you count on Flash Player as an integral component of the web and we strive for high quality and performance in each release. We are actively looking into the root cause of this issue. Thanks to many of you submitting information via email and our online bug database, we now have some solid leads we are pursuing.
Flash Player 10 and later can use your system’s graphics hardware to accelerate video decoding, and can also accelerate video presentation on some sites. Starting with Flash Player 10.2, Flash Player will also take advantage of hardware accelerated graphics in Internet Explorer 9, utilizing hardware rendering surfaces to improve graphics performance.
With Flash Player 10.3.181.14, reports indicate that systems with Intel HD Graphics adapters running Internet Explorer 9 are the only systems impacted by this particular bug. If you are encountering this issue and have a different configuration we'd love to hear from you. Please review the instructions on this page for details on generating the information we'll need for further investigation.
Solution #1
Adobe has officially released Flash Player 10.3.181.16 for Internet Explorer to address the graphical issues introduced in 10.3.181.14. You can get this release by visiting our official download page, directly downloading and running the installer file, or using the Flash Player auto update mechanism.
After installing, we recommend you re-enable hardware acceleration if you had it previously disabled. We also recommend you clear your browser cache and restart your system.
If you continue to encounter issues, please create a new thread and we'll do our best to investigate further.
Solution #2
On some systems, you may be able to resolve this issue by updating the Intel HD Graphics drivers. It has been reported that driver versions 8.15.10.2361 and above do not exhibit this bug. Unfortunately, some systems might require updates directly from your system manufacturer. We’re working with system manufacturers to make sure they include the latest drivers in future releases.
Solution #3
You can disable hardware acceleration in Internet Explorer 9 using the instructions on this page. Please note that you should re-enable hardware acceleration once this problem has been resolved to enjoy the full benefits of hardware acceleration.
Thank you,
The Flash Player team
Update 5/20/11 - We've temporarily disabled the automatic update notification for Flash Player 10.3 and Internet Explorer. We're making progress on a fix and hope to have a new version available next week.
Update 5/24/11 - Added link to the 10.3.181.15 test update
Update 5/27/11 - Added instructions for post install of 10.3.181.15
Update 5/31/11 - Updated thread with the official 10.3.181.16 announcementFOR THOSE RUNNING IE9 ON WINDOWS 7 AND HAVE INSTALLED THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE FOR ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 10.3 - TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
Open IE9 Browser window > Click on "Tools" > Click on "Internet Options" > Selct the "Advanced" Tab > Turn on/Click the "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" > Click "Apply" > Click "OK" > Shut down and then restart your IE9 browser.
THIS WILL BE A TEMPORARY FIX FOR ANY ISSUES YOU MAY HAVE WITH THE CONSTANT FLOOD OF FLASHING ADS AND THE LIKE UNTIL A PATCH IS MADE AVAILABLE FOR THIS UPDATE.
OTHER QUICK FIXES WOULD INCLUDE:
1) UN-INSTALLING 10.3 AND RE-DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING 10.2 FOR THE TIME BEING. **BE SURE TO AVOID RE-INSTALLING THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE OF 10.3 AGAIN**
2) DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING "MOZILLA FIREFOX" AND USING IT AS YOUR WEB BROWSER!! -
