Z10 startup issue

Upon initial startup, my phone does not find a wifi network.

Is there a known WiFi signal present?
Can you try another WIFi router or reset the current WiFi router?

  • New StartUp Issue

My new MacBook Pro 17" has been having startup issues recently. After I shut down, leave, and come back, the startup issue occurs.
After pressing the power button, fans will go on, proccessing noises occur, HOWEVER, it just boots to a white/grey screen W/OUT the apple logo or round loading bar. The keyboard does not initialize either.
The only thing that I have found to 'fix' it, is just to leave it powered off for an extended period of time. It will then boot up.
I have tried many non-software related 'cures', and my compuer is completely up to date on all OsX software.
    Any ideas guys??

you can try to boot to safe mode ( restart holding Shift )
    - you can attempt to boot to install disc and disk utility
    - you can boot to AHT ( apple hardware test ) to see what component is failing ( insert disc, restart holding D )
    - chances are, this is a hardware issue though. you will probably need repairs.

  • Startup issue - Process 'Starting Framework'

    Hi
I seem to have a startup issue with NM2004s.  I get a Half Green/ Half Yellow icon in the MMC.  The 01 instance is always yellow and never progresses onto green.  I have a process status of 'starting framework'.
    Anyone else had this issue?
    Cheers
    Ian

    Hi Ian,
I just installed the J2E on a laptop that already has a NSP instance.I am facing the same issue on the J2E.Do you remember if you could resolve this and how?
      Any hints would help.
    Thank you

  • Startup issue when having more than one database on machine

Startup issue when having more than one database on machine:
    I’ve installed two databases.
When I shutdown one of the database and try to start it up using
    Startup pfile=’…location..’;
I get ora-12514: TNS: listener does not currently know of service rquirest in connect descriptor
when I try it again after 3 seconds, I get a new error, ora-01041: internal error. Hostdef extension doesn’t exist
Shutdown and Startup gave no problems when I had one database. Why am I getting problems when I have two databases?
I’m using: show parameter pfile|spfile; to make sure I have the right parameter locations, so the error shouldn’t be from location.
I’ve never installed two databases on one machine, so maybe I’m making a first-timer’s error.
Anyone know how to get this working, i.e. starting and stopping DB without issues?
Using oracle 11gR2 on Windows 7 64bit, all is working normal.
    Thanks,
    Ayman

my oracle_sid is set to the name of one of my databases

    Still not working though.
When I start the services of both databases using Services, I can connect and run queries from both of the database.
Edited by: aymanzone on Jun 15, 2011 11:47 AMFirstly ... the Oracle Service for the instance should be started for the DB you are trying to connect or start.
Next ... from the command prompt:
    set oracle_sid=<Instance_Name>
    sqlplus sys as sysdba
startup pfile='location of the respective db pfile'
Now, if you want to start or connect to another DB which is on the same server (again assuming the Service is STARTED) ...
From the same command prompt session or other ....
    set oracle_sid=<Other_Instance_Name>
    sqlplus sys as sysdba
startup pfile='location of the respective db pfile'

  • Another startup-issue

I have a problem with system startup. My MacBook is pretty much brand new and the system is not cluttered or anything. And still the startup-process freezes even before the apple logo appears, so I just get the grey screen and that's it. I have read about other startup issues, but in those cases the computer at least booted until the apple logo was shown, so my case is slightly different.
After unplugging my external USB hard drive startup works. It also works when I plug it into the other USB-slot. Other devices plugged into the problematic slot (keyboard, USB-stick) work and do not cause problems during startup.
Any experiences with this problem? Would you say the USB-slot is broken in any way? Is it something that can be fixed?
Ordinarily, I would just use the other slot and be done with it. Since the computer is brand new, however, I'd prefer to be on the safe side.
    Thanks in advance,
    Timo

    Hi
+"Would you say the USB-slot is broken in any way?"+
Possibly? Running an Apple Hardware Test might say?
+"Is it something that can be fixed?"+
Yes. It should be covered under the standard 1 year warranty regardless. Provided the fault is not down to wilful or accidental damage it will be covered under the warranty.
You could connect the external USB hard drive in the affected slot an restart the mac in verbose mode (command+v) at restart. This should display error messages - if any - at the point where the start-up stalls. Possibly giving a clue as to what it's having a problem with? You may see an I/OKit error problem or something similar?

  • Have any ideas re: G5 startup issues? Long post...

My dual processor G5 (purchased Jan. 2005) is in the shop, and, of course, out of warranty. It's been down for over two weeks. Here is the story of its demise:
Installed 10.4.9 upgrade. Began having "launch systems" and crashdump/usb crash errors thereafter. Not a lot of info online regarding these problems, so I decided to do an archive and re-install of my system software.
Started having intermittent problems restarting the G5. Either it would chime, but not kick on the monitor, chime and kick on the monitor but hang at the grey apple startup screen, or not chime at all, with which only the fans would come on. Apple Extended Hardware Test came back OK. Still had problems after removing my USB devices.
Problems continued after the reinstall of the system software, eventually to the point where I could not even boot from a CD. When the G5 did operate, after a short period of use it would freeze, and I would have to force a restart and pray it would boot up completely. It would reliably freeze after waking it from sleep, but also froze in iPhoto and Finder as well.
I have tried resetting the PMU and the PRAM with no improvement. Took it to an Apple Authorized Service Center, luckily only a couple miles from where I work. They tried booting with the Apple RAM only, then the third party RAM only, no improvement. Hard drive was completely reformatted and system reinstalled, no improvement. I am waiting to hear what else they've tried.
My G5's serial # falls outside of those involved with the power supply issues. Yet, could this be a possibility? Any other ideas as to what the problem could be, or has anyone had similar issues?
I freelance as a graphic designer and this has me in a panic. Now using the hubby's Intel iMac to run CS2 and it's a drag.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi and thanks for the input. I just spoke to the Apple service guy and he still insists there is not a hardware issue. Apparently there is an Apple technical doc, available only to authorized techs, that refers to this particular issue, and the fix is a download and install (firmware, perhaps?) He has to contact Apple and confirm my G5 is within the serial # range for this particular fix.
That's my best interpretation of our discussion. He was rather cryptic. But he says it's not the power supply.
I did an archive and install because, like an idiot, I did not have anything backed up at that point. After that failed, I used up my stash of DVDs and copied gigs to our iMac until the G5 gave out. I had run the hardware test several times and each time came back clean.
Permissions were repaired before and after updates; had it freeze a couple times mid-update. Tried booting in safe mode and single-user mode and still had the same startup issues.
To add insult to injury, I purchased a LaCie Porsche external drive as an eventual backup drive whenever the G5 returns. Hooked it up to our iMac to backup the items I saved off the G5. It failed after the second use. Returned for replacement.
    Thanks.

  • Black Macbook Startup Issues

    Hey guys.
I'm having a distressful startup issue with my Macbook (13-inch, black). It's happened to me before, but that was a few months ago and everything was fine. Now it's happening again and I'm getting worried that the workaround I've found won't work anymore.
The first time it happened, I wanted to restart my computer because I had installed a bunch of things and it was running a little slow. After I restarted, I heard the "GONG", the apple appeared, and the spinning gear also appeared. It seemed to be working, but after a few minutes, the apple changed to a "do not enter" sign.
I tried resetting the P-RAM to no avail, and finally ended up starting up in Safe Mode (by holding the Shift Key) which at least allowed me to start up my computer. From there, I was able to reset and my computer started up normally after that just fine.
Now, last night, the same thing started happening. There were a few different things that happened this time. For one, I got a big gray box on my screen that told me I needed to reset my computer in a few different languages. Secondly, (the only thing I can attribute the cause to) was that I had opened iChat for the first time in 5 months or so. Shortly after is when I got the box.
So I reset and started having the same problem. I've reset in safe mode now, and am currently installing an update to OSX 10.6.3.
The only programs running at the time of the incident were:
    -Google Chrome
    -Text Edit
    -iCal
    -iTunes
Any help you guys have for me would be GREATLY appreciated! I took it to an Apple store the first time it happened and they didn't know what was wrong with it. :/

Well, after booting in Safe Mode and installing the update, it started up just fine. I am afraid that this is going to happen again, though. Any help you guys have would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Lenovo 3000 N200 - Startup issue from bad to worse

I was facing similar startup issues like others (abrupt shutdown). I saw posts with similar issue so I tried the method (F1 on startup then F9 and F10) but ended up making things worse. Now it won't boot at all. Goes to "Windows didn't start successfully" and I have tried every single option (safe mode, last known good config and normal start) but nothing works.
    Any suggestion?

remove the hdd and use linux live cd to check if it boots.

  • Intermittent Startup Issues, Fan Reving

Has anyone else had startup issues with the G5's? I have had to re-seat memory in my lab on 3 machines and this seems, so far, to have alleviated the problem.
The funny thing is I have had these machines for about 8 months and never had this problem. My computers are locked and access to the physical memory is impossible.
    Just curious?
Once I tried to run in Open Firmware the computer beeped 3 times, thus telling me it was a memory issue. Each of the machines exhibited different symptoms??? One was caught in the blue screen. One in the gray screen with neverending fan reving and spinning startup wheel. Lastly, a frozen computer (in an account) where all keyboard and mouse commands are not recognized. Upon hard shutdown and restart either this machine ended up stuck in gray screen **** or started ok.

Yeah, if you are in a humid lab (i.e. animal research lab) or some other unique environment sometimes the conditions can be less than ideal.
Most electromechanical connections, such as the slots where the RAM plug in or PCI card slots or cable connections, are more apt to become less than optimal in such a condition.
Another problem tends to be that the G5 is a hunk of cold metal when powered down or even sleeping and in a cold room. Humidity loves to condense on cold metal and has been known to cause problems.
However, since all you have had to do thus far is re-seat the RAM, the impact seems to be minimal at this time.
    Luck-

  • Heating, Longer Startup issues after upgrading to Windows 8.1

It has just been about 1.5 years I have purchased this laptop and the way it is behaving now is killing me.
There was absolutely no problem while I was running Windows 8(which was my preloaded OS).
But after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I am facing numerous problems which I am stating below.
Startup time has increased to double the time it took perviously( even after I disabled unnecessary startup entries ).
Laptop is getting heated from the moment it is started, no matter what I do or I do nothing and keep it idle(which earlier happened only when I played any high graphics game)
HP Support Assistant no longer works in Windows 8.1(I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times still no solution), so I am no longer able to get any technical support.
Right click on Desktop takes ~10 seconds to open up the menu(Once again checked and found no unwanted third party context meny handler entry blocking the right click)
Please help me out as soon as possible.
Currently I am using Microsoft Windows 8.1 x64 Single OS
Product Name-HP Pavilion G6-2236TX NB PC
    Product Number-D4B09PA

  • Hard drive startup issues after extended sleep/shutdown

    Hello,
When I put my iMac to sleep or shut it off for an extended period of time (overnight) and then try to wake it up or turn it on, the iMac makes a strange clicking noise and freezes.
After manually shutting down and restarting it one or more times it will startup fine.
Putting to sleep/shutting down the computer for short periods of time doesn't cause any problems.
So when this first started happening I though "Uh oh, hard drives going to that great recycling depot in the sky."
But, Disk Utility, Apple's hardware test, and TechTool Pro 4 all find nothing wrong with my system.
Is there any chance this could not be an hard drive issue? Or should I just get the drive replaced and stop trying to diagnose the problem?

You've covered the biggies already - I'd recommend a trip to the Apple store or at least a call to AppleCare. Back in the late 80's and early 90's 'stiction' was a serious problem with hard drives. A hard drive motor has very low torque; it can spin fast but it doesn't have much oomph and the lubricant used back then could harden overnight so that when the computer was booted up the drive's motor couldn't spin up the platters. Improvements in lubricants have made stiction less common today but it hasn't been eradicated and it is one of the things that might be affecting your drive. At any rate, since I can't put your computer on my bench, the best call I can make is for you to make a call. Sorry.

  • IMac 24" core 2 duo - sudden video + startup issue

    Hi
I have a 24" intel core 2 duo 3.06 ghz from 2009 running snow leopard latest version
Last night the screen froze with a bizarre array of colours and video weirdness. I had to restart. Since then there is a weird black pattern over the whole screen and it won't get past the grey apple loading screen. I have tried starting from a. Cd - both a system disk and techtool pro disk - apple hardware test startup, safe mode startup all with no result.
It plays startup chime, shows the grey apple, has a litle disk spin think then freezes again. When I try and start from a cd the cd spins and I can hear it loading but in the end it gives up. I can't hear the hard drive spinning.
I have a genius bar appointment but first one available is sat am - any thoughts on what this could be. It seems like a hard disk AND a visor card issue but I can't understand why it won't boot from cd
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

Out f interest i reset the PRAM as well - it did nothing except change the weird video problem to a different pattern!

  • Z10 encoding issue in outgoing email

Hoping someone can help me. I've been an avid bb fan for years and my husband and I both handed in our bonds a week ago to move to the z10. We are both loving it. While my husband has had no issues with his I am very close to having no issues - except for one major one that affects me and my clients greatly. I have 2 email accounts - gmail (working without any issue at all - was up and running within a matter of minutes of receiving my z10). The other however has not been a fun or even manageable experience. My work email is web based and took a few days for me to even get it up and running. With my bold I was able to connect via Exchange but am no longer able to do so. I was told to connect via Active sync however my employer does not have this functionality and it is not supported. Following that I was told to connect using either IMAP or POP. And while I have been finally able to connect and receive my email when I SEND email it is a disaster!!!!! My out going mail seems to be adding in all of the encoding and so it becomes "unreadable" for lack of a better term. I have no idea where to turn on this. I have been constantly surfing and searching and and all forums that I can in hopes to find a resolution but have not yet found one - this is my last resort - otherwise sadly ....... Very, very sadly I will have to return my phone. Any suggestions at all would be much appreciated! Sorry for the "long-winded ness"

Wow lesedwards.. you are on fire. Jacking your issue into every email thread and getting **bleep**ed constantly.
This thread was about an encoding issue, and from your other posts you are simply having connection issues.
@Sarealex - I haven't seen this issue with any of my email accounts over IMAP, what software version are you currently using?

  • Freezing/Startup issue

I've been dealing with this all weekend and wasted my whole weekend I guess. Here's the story:
It all started when I updated iTunes. Never had a problem before that. I wouldn't have even updated it because I'm usually paranoid about updates anyway for this very ******* reason, go figure. I did it for some random girl who came up to me in school and asked if she could activate her iPhone on my computer. I'm always so nice and it always bites me in the *** big time and I always have to pay for it because no one else ever wants to ever take any ******* responsibility or even be polite.
Anyway so I updated iTunes and my computer started freezing upon waking from sleep... totally freezing, nothing to do, had to hard restart each time. Then it started saying that I had to restart my computer when I restarted it instead of starting up... and then eventually one morning it just kept doing that and I couldn't get it to start at all.
Took it to the Genius Bar, where a nice girl ran diagnostics and worked on it for about 45 minutes, inconclusively. She said "IF it's software, this, IF it's hardware, this." Great. Kernal issue was the most she could make out, due to what, she couldn't tell. Told me to go to TekServe.
So to TekServe I went, he told me the same thing, told me I had to pay them some money to either fix the software problem by erasing my hard drive and reinstalling my OS, or pay them way more to send it out to fix the hardware (even more than the girl at Genius Bar said they'd do it for). Which is absolutely ridiculous, because I could do the former myself, I just needed to know WHAT the problem was. I asked him if there was or wasn't a way for him to be able to tell absolutely if the problem was with the hard- or software, so I don't just have to ******* guess and spend like $500. So he "found out" for me and had me wait a few minutes. Came back and said he tried some **** and it was definitely software. Definitely? DEFINITELY. Okay great.
So I went home and did the erase and install myself.
And later was very unhappy to find that I am still experiencing issues reawakening from sleep. Set the computer to not go to sleep when idle, just the display, which fixes the problem until I close my computer. That's it though. Still not happy.
Also the COMPUTER wakes back up, it's the DISPLAY only that doesn't now, I didn't mention, since I did the erase and install. Or I'm not sure because when I try some keyboard shortcuts they don't seem to work, but the keyboard had lit back up and the fan is whirring, stuff like that. So who knows. I certainly don't.
Just tried resetting the SMC too. I don't know if that WOULD make a difference after the erase and install, but I tried it anyway. Don't yet know if it helped. I still want to post this for advice just in case, rather sooner than later.
Thank you very much, any tips you could give me will be extremely appreciated, obviously. I was yelling at all these people at like 2am when I realized they all ****** me over. I'm very upset.
    Thanks.

Resetting the SMC sounds like a pretty good idea. If the problem recurs, try booting in safe mode shift key down at startup).
If you can reproduce the issue with a reset SMC, a freshly erased and installed drive, and no third-party software loaded, then it certainly is hardware or an OS bug, no matter what anybody told you.
