Will there be MSSQL2008 support in 10.3?

Okay will do that.. but SQL 2008 support is not crucial from me, I just wanted to know if it's planed for 10.3, then I would install ms server 2008 with sql 2008 and wait for 10.3. If it's not on the roadmap then I will install ms server 2008 with sql 2005 and deploy 10.2 right away?

[solved] Build of php package with mssql support - checking my process
Since the straight 'php' package doesn't support mssql, I'm in the process of trying to build and install an updated copy that has that switch turned on. The information I've seen out there seems pretty straight forward, but my results are odd, so I'm checking my work here...
I did an abs to pull down the tree (had to use abs -t), created an abs directory under my root home dir, then copied the extra/php branch to /root/abs/php
Edit the PKGBUILD adding the line
--with-mssql \
to the end (line 130) of the list of phpextensions= that is later used in the ./configure line of PKGBUILD. Then from the same directory, run makepkg --asroot -f
then remove the old php with pacman -Rd php
then install the new php with pacman -U ./php-5.3.2-6-i686.pkg.tar.xz
Then modify my php.ini for mssql support
and then get the wierd results:
- php reports it does not have mssql support. phpinfo() shows the ./configure command line and the --with-mssql piece is not there.
- a php -m reports "PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/mssql.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/mssql.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
A search for mssql.so comes up empty on the system. I am not sure why it isn't there, but I wanted to make sure I was doing the above steps first before running down the php code specific rabbit hole trying to find mssql.so in case it is under a different name in the source and then compiled out to be mssql.so in the end result.
(note - I have freetds on the system along with it's source files from the package, and no mssql.so in there either)
Thanks,
-Jeff
Last edited by jethro (2010-09-22 19:33:55)Did all that, no real errors, only a few warnings, but did figure out what was going on and will put it here in case anyone searches on this and is in the same boat. In search of mssql.so I found this web page http://howtogetitworking.com/2008/02/26 … p-on-unix/ which talks about needing to build the mssql.so file yourself. Specifically, going into src//ext/mssql/ then
# cd /uploaded_path/mssql/
# phpize
# ./configure
# make
# make install
and suddenly I have mssql.so, restart apache and I have mssql support. I wasn't expecting to have to compile a subsection of php after doing a package build with the switches I wanted, but I guess that's what I had to do.
Thanks,
-Jeff -
Adobe should really consider building in the option for their advanced clients to run their catalog off a MYSQL or MSSQL database system. The current database implementation for the catalog is just way too slow or perhaps rather badly and clumsily coded. I've been working with databases for years and you should be able to run thousands of transactions in a minute and also access database information in millionths of a second.
For instance you should be able to apply a keyword change to 60,000 image files in under a minute or two and also be able to do this on fairly standard hardware. Currently this type of simple function in Lightroom can take hours.
If Lightroom is to become the defacto industry standard for DAM then we need blistering performance and I firmly believe the product is falling short with it's databasing system and in it's current form cannot stand up to a high end professional production environment.Hi,
SQL Developers Worksheet has to parse commands to identify their start and finish and their type (query, or update ,... ).
We recognize Oracle SQL , PL/SQL and SQL*Plus , but we have yet to work on other databases syntax.
So at the moment if you running a command against MySQL, SQL Server or Sybase, it has to be fairly similar to an Oracle statement for it to be recognized and run correctly.
EX: SELECT, INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE.
Things like MySQL
+use [databasename]+
or
show databases
are not recognized yet.
Full MySQL recognition will not make it into SQL Developer 3.0 ,
but SQL Developer 3 EA2 (the next release) does allow you to give the Worksheet parser a hint as to what type of statement it is and how to execute it.
The hint is placed in front of the command, and the command has to be terminated with a forward slash on its own line, or a semi colon.
The two hints are
/*sqldev:query*/ if your expecting a result set to be returned
/*sqldev:stmt*/ if you are expecting nothing returned
Example:
If you connect to your MySQL connection you can perform the following
+/*sqldev:query*/show databases;+
+/*sqldev:stmt*/use dermot;+
select database();
+/*sqldev:stmt*/use information_schema;+
select database();
The same goes for SQL Server , Sybase ,.... commands which are not recognized by our Worksheet.
Sybase example:
+/sqldev:query*/sp_help;+
Appreciate this is not an ideal solution, but until we recognize the syntax correctly this may help out.
Just to be clear, we are not supporting all MySQL/SQL Server/Sybase commands yet. But hopefully using a "hint" might be of some use.
Regards,
Dermot.

MS SQL Server supported?
As I see, only derby, oracle, db2 and sysbase ase are listed as possible databases.
Is there a timeline for MSSQL support?

/homWhich one is it supposed to be? I have both versions installed side-by-side in /usr/lib, the prefix was /usr. Also, I was thinking about openssl installing header files into /usr/include. Aren't they needed to compile this php extension? openssl098 basically installs just the library:
$ pacaur -Ql openssl098
openssl098 /usr/
openssl098 /usr/bin/
openssl098 /usr/bin/openssl098
openssl098 /usr/lib/
openssl098 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
openssl098 /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8
openssl098 /usr/share/
openssl098 /usr/share/licenses/
openssl098 /usr/share/licenses/openssl098
Maybe I should go with compiling openssl from sources after all...

Hi,
we are in big trouble here. On Mac OS X 10.4 it was no problem building PHP with additional modules. Unfortunately it´s not working this time.
This is the error message i got when building php:
checking for mSQL support... no
checking for MSSQL support via FreeTDS... no
checking for MySQL support... yes
checking for specified location of the MySQL UNIX socket... /var/mysql/mysql.sock
checking for MySQL UNIX socket location... /var/mysql/mysql.sock
configure: error: Cannot find MySQL header files under /usr.
Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore!
Looks like some libs are missing?!
find / -iname 'libmysqlclient*'
That doesn´t helper neither. No results.
Any idera what´s wrong here?the php in 10.5 uses extensions, you do not need to rebuild php to get mssql to work..
Take a look at http://downloads.topicdesk.com/docs/AddingGD2_to_PHP_on_OS_X_Server_10_5Leopard.pdf
as you can see in that example GD is built separately, mssql is the same.. do a google search on mssql.so and you will find a bunch of info (most of it is for linux but you should be able to get the info to work) -
Hi
I followe these url and step to connect from Oracle to sqlserver
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_heterogeneous_database_connections_sql_server.htm
SERVER X -- SYBASE
SERVER Z -- ORACLE DATABASE
Below is a series of steps that are needed to set up the hetergeneous services. The actual code will be discussed following these steps.
1. Install ODBC drivers on the server (server X) that is to actually access the Sybase database.
2. Setup the ODBC connection on server X using the Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator
3. Test the ODBC drivers to ensure that connectivity is made to the non-Oracle database.
4. Ensure the Global_names parameter is set to False.
5. Install an Oracle server (or code tree) or an Oracle database on the same server (server X) as the ODBC drivers.
6. Configure the Hetergeneous services. This consists of creating an initodbc.ora file within the Oracle installation on server X.
7. Modify the Listener.ora file on server X used to connect to the Oracle instance and ODBC drivers.
8. Modify the Tnsnames.ora file on server Z . This is the Oracle database installation accessed by the users to connect to the ODBC drivers
9. Reload the listener on server X
10. Create a database link on the Oracle installation (server Z) that accesses the heterogeneous connection.
11. Run a Select statement for the Oracle installation (server Z) using the database link
I have some question regarding this notes
STEP 4 --- IN machine i need to check Global_Nmaes parameter
STEP 5 --- Install oracle code tree in SERVER X (what is this code tree) is this need
to install on where my sqlserver running
step 6 & 7 -- is this hetrogeneous service need to configure on sqlserver side
pls advise
rdsYou need to get Oracle Software and ODBC driver on one server and you have two alternatives:
1)Install ODBC driver for MSSQL on your Linux server
there are some commercial ODBC drivers for MSSQL supported on Linux, for example:
DataDirect http://www.datadirect.com/products/odbc/odbc-sqlserver/index.ssp
OpenLinkSW http://uda.openlinksw.com/odbc/
there is also an opensource FreeTDS ODBC driver: http://freetds.org/
In this alternative, you don't need any Oracle Software on your MSSQL server.
For instruction on setting Generic Connectivity with FreeTDS on Linux see http://www.dbapool.com/articles/06280701.html
2)If you cannot install ODBC driver on Linux Server, than you must install some Oracle SW on your MSSQL Server
You can use the solution described in your original post and install Oracle DB software on your MSSQL server. I must say that I didn't know that this is possible before reading your post. I allways thought that Generic Connectivity must run on the same server as Oracle Database. But if the article says that it works, you can try it.
There is also a new mechanism called "Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC" that is a new generation of what was formerly called Generic Connectivity. It's part of 11g, but you can use it with former versions of Oracle DB also. You will find "Oracle Database Gateways" on Oracle Database 11g download page.
Gateway for ODBC can officialy be installed on separate server. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/gateways.111/e10311/intro.htm#i1005931. The rest of the configuration seem the same as with former versions of Generic Connectivity.
You seem to have access to Metalink, so look for Note 466225.1 How to Setup DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit.
Hope it helps. Unfortunately I have no practical experience with configuring Generic Connectivity/Gateway for ODBC on Linux. -
Does ZAM Client work with Windows 7 and/or OS X Snow Leopard
Or will there be support for either of those environments? Installer seems to work OK, but client does not report to the Collector.
I've been advised by our Novell Account Manager that support for Windows 7 will not be incorporated into ZAM 7.5, however, the ZAM 10/ZCM 10 client will support Windows 7. I imagine they will take the same stance with Snow Leopard.

Confirm no support for MSSQL 2008 before reverting to older EM version
Before I resort to installing EM Grid Control (11.1.0.1), I want to confirm that I have correctly read that EM12C does NOT support monitoring of MSSQL 2008. I understand that MSSQL 2008 R2 is certified with EM12C but, it appears that monitoring the original MSSQL 2008 is not.
Also, I'm a bit nervous about using EM Grid Control since it appears to have been a one-and-only version. Would I be smarter to go back to one of the EM10 versions?
This will be a new install, not an upgrade, so I hate to start out with an outdated EM tool but, I have to be able to monitor MSSQL 2008.
TIA,
JeriI have received a response from MOS to my original SR which confirms that EM12C is not certified for monitoring MSSQL 2008. For those who may possibly be interested in clarification of other OS and/or MSSQL versions with various flavors of EM, I've included below the full SR response details:
"The 12cR1 and 12cR2 Cloud Control are only certified to monitor two versions of Microsoft SQL Server : 2005 and 2008 R2
The 12cR2 is certified with these 3 Windows OS versions : 7,2008 R2,2003 on 64-bit platform where as the 12cR2 is certified with 4 versions of Windows OS version: 7,2008 R2,2008,2003
The 11g Grid Control is certified to monitor 7 versions of Microsoft SQL Server (including 2008) : 2008 R2 Cluster,2008 R2,2008 Cluster,2008,2005 Cluster,2005,2000
Also 11g Grid Control certified with 4 versions of Windows platform : 7,2008,2003 R2,2003"
The analyst who provided this information was also kind enough to open another SR on my behalf which will hopefully yield the answer to my other question- whether deploying 11g Grid Control is the best option for my environment or whether one of the EM10 versions might be a better choice. Unless someone else here is interested in that answer too, I won't update this post further with that information.
Thanks, Jeri -
IE8 unsupported error after updating to ZCM 11 Support Pack 1 (11.1)
Does any experience this problem after updating to ZCM11sp1?
I keep getting IE8 unsupported error after updating to ZCM 11 Support
Pack 1 (11.1) although I am running on IE8 already. Now remote
management is not working because of this incompatible browser errors. I
tried this following

Thank you for your responding. I have already checked to view Internet
sites in compatibility mode with no luck. I tried several different
computers with IE8 but they all got the same problem. -
Is MSSQL 2005 supported ?
is MSSQL 2005 supported by the 6.0 portal? For an existing portal(with sql2000 database), moving the database on a sql2005 server isOk? Any experience regarding this procedure?
Thanks!
ValHi Jacques,
The Express Edition is not listed in the "Supported platforms" list:
http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000654575&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000183&_ADDINC=&_OBJECT=011000358700001241092005E.htm
If I remember correctly Microsoft does not want the Express Edition to be used for productive systems...
...or at least the agreement regarding B1 is of such kind.
For a more detailled discussion or a formal answer please open a message to SAP Support on SAP Servicemarketplace.

Is MSSQL Cluster supported running on SOFS?
Hi
We plan to setup a SOFS (JBOD with FileCluster) + Hyper-V Cluster (With VMM). We then plan to create 2 x VM´s running MSSQL in MSSQL Cluster. My question is: Is it supported to place the "data/cluster disk", containing the database data-files,
on the SOFS?
Does anyone have an reference to best practice? Any blog/documentation around how to do this?
