  • Domain hosting provider that supports Dynamic Global Hostname?

Is there any domain hosting provider that supports dynamic DNS of the variety that supports "dynamic global hostname" used by Mac OS X, accessed in the Sharing control panel, and used by AirPort Express and Time Machine? I am referring to the Dynamic DNS method specified by IETF RFC 2136.

Any VPS provider will give you full control over your BIND installation.

Hi, Could you please suggest a video player, that support all video formats?

This is probably as good as it gets:
    https://itunes.apple.com/app/media-player-playerxtreme-hd/id456584471
You won't find anything that plays "all video formats", because of the restrictions built into the iOS.

  • Providers that support EIGRP for MPLS

There doesn't seem to be any list of these and BGP and redistribution drive me nuts. I've heard Sprint offers this but there must be others?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Mloraditch,
it is more a question of commercial policies rather then a technical limit
I think some  provider may charge more for  the use of EIGRP as PE-CE.
This is because the PE node has to perform the redistribution of EIGRP  in MP BGP for  your benefit.
    Hope to help

  • Coldfusion 9 Recommended Hosting Providers

i am with flinthosts.co.uk and the service is really bad, its been over 2 days and they cant seem to sort out the issue with the server and below is the answer they gave for the issue they have with the server
"It's not a simple problem - u seem to think that every issue is straight foward and solvable with the flick of a switch. Some things are rarely like that.
We are investiating and trying to find the cause of the issue and will update you at a later stage"
so till they can figure it out, the site is having errors and i am stuck in limbo and thats not an answer i can give the client.
would anyone know alternative coldfusion 9 recommended hosting providers.

We're running ColdFusion 9 Enterprise on our newest servers, one physical host running five different ColdFusion virtual machines for optimum usage of the Java heap.
As for a guarantee if your application will not work on our platform due to a technical limitation our end then yes, we'll give you your money back no problem. However you can't just change your mind and get a refund, no.
In saying that, I think we've had maybe five people in the five years need a refund, and that includes ASP, PHP, and other platforms as well
If there's anything you need that's out of the ordinary that you think specifically might not work let me know and I'll take a look.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the same shared folder can be accessed by name, but can’t be accessed be IP address and asks for credentials.
Please try to enable the option below on the device which has shared folder:
Besides, check the Advanced Shring settings of shared folder and confrim that if there is any limitation settings.
    Best Regards,

  • Web host recommendations (that works with Mac IMAP Mail)

    hi all.
i did a lot of research and moved my sites to a HostGator and after going through all this effort i have been finding my sites are being shut down due to an issue where my IMAP email is pinging their servers and when they see 25 pings (or whatever) they shut down my site.
i have been through an excructiating two months of unchecking IDLE settings, unchecking Push and being told to move to POP (not an option for obvious reasons) and/or alternatively being told it is Mac Mail's fault. i have also been told not to check my email. in order to get a plan where checking my email on HostGator does not result in the shutting down of my website i am being told i have to sign up for a plan that is two and a half times more expensive per month than my previous plan.
i am at the point where it appears the easiest solution may be to get rid of my laptop or my iphone.
anyone have a good recommendation on a new host provider so i can get free of these guys?
    TIA

hi scott. thanks a lot for the post here. /so/ glad to hear from someone that is also having this issue.
i was not aware that postbox was still alive. i purchased this software and found that there were functionalities that had controls in the UI which were not operable and that some of the tools were very buggy. then they closed the forums so you could not talk to other users and then eventually they stopped providing me support. in any event, i have been thinking about installing and going back to Thunderbird so do you mind if i ask you some follow ups here?
i have about ten email addresses which sort of complicates things i think as it is uber helpful to know where i am getting an email to. i mean, one of my email addresses is "[email protected]" (super important to me) while others are to other addresses. also, i have two domains so if i just send everything to one address this is a bit confusing.
/anyway/ i /tried/ setting an "[email protected]" and set up forwarding in the CPanel to this "all@" address. then i simply put this one "all@" domain in my email client. for some reason i think this created duplicates in some cases. do you happen to know if FORWARDING as you describe means it will show up in BOTH the forwarded email address and in the ORIGINAL account? i mean, presumably the fact that you have the GMAIL account on your iphone means that this email gets forwarded to this GMAIL address (in my case /all/ my email addresses could get forwarded to this GMail address) but it ALSO shows up in your email client when you enter your email addresses INDIVIDUALLY?
do you know what i mean? i mean it sounds like you are suggesting (again really helpful) that i get my email in bulk on my iphone with all of them forwarded to this GMail address but if i ditch Mail and set up a client that presumably limits processes that i can get the mail individually on my laptop and on my desktop, yes?

  • Dynamic dns that supports RFC 3007

Apple's manual for Dynamic Host Configuration seems simple enough. Just find a dynamic DNS host that supports RFC 3007, log in, and you're ready.
My problem is, after talking with dozens of Dynamic DnS providers, none support the RFC 3007 spec.
Does anyone know or an RFC service provider that supports Apple Airport/Lion Dynamic.Host Configuration with firmware 7.x or higher and Airport Utility 6.x or higher?

Have you come across a provider which supports RFC 3007 yet?

  • Web site providers that work w/ iWeb

    Regarding WordPress:
From your iWeb site you could link to your WordPress blog having a Mac-like "iTheme"...
    http://www.ndesign-studio.com/resources/wp-themes/itheme/
...At that page, click on the "WordPress Demo" link where you can re-order the sidebar on the right via drag & drop. Also click the sidebar's green button to collapse, then click the orange button to expand back. Looks cool, all free and without coding!
Plus there's a beta version of that same WordPress theme which includes a Mac-like menu "Dock"...
    http://www.ndesign-studio.com/blog/updates/itheme-and-css-dock-menu/
...Again, at that page, click on the "WordPress Demo" link, scroll down to the bottom of the page and mouse-over the Dock icons -- they will magnify like your Mac Dock and clicking will take you to the particular page of your WordPress blog.
And just to confirm the domain-name capability of WordPress, here's one:

  • OpenVZ based Arch Linux VPS's off-line at several hosting providers

    Hello all,
I have a number of Arch Linux OpenVZ based VPS's with a good number of hosting providers. For the last year+ I have done a regular weekly update (pacman -Syu cron job) on all my VPS's. The last update round rendered all my VPS's unbootable on every host. It looks like the package update "linux-api-headers 2.6.36.2-1" does not play well with the kernels that have OpenVZ support baked in. Currently I have VPS's offline with Virpus and ZoomVPS/BoostHosting amongst others. Virpus and Zoom have booth been rather unresponsive for a number of days now. I have to think other Arch VPS users are feeling this because at lest one VM was nearly a brand new vanilla install and was impact just like the others. Are there any other Arch users out there effect by this? Have any hosting providers found a fix? Any info would be great.

My hosts would not upgrade and or spoof their kernel on my node so to solve my situation I restored an older backup and followed these directions (http://irony.at/archlinux-openvz-glib) ignoring upgrades to glibe (IgnorePkg), installing a custom build of glib and then applying regular updates. My systems back online and I have learned my lesson about pacman -Syu cron jobs. Sure does make you think that Xen-HVM hosting might be worth the minimal additional cost.

  • Small, cheap NAS box that supports nfs/rsync/ssh ?

    Hi all,
for my personal backup needs, I'm looking for a standalone NAS box ("networked hard disk/raid solution").  I need to have support for at least one of rsync/nfs/ssh.  (smb/ftp is not enough for me)
It shouldn't be too big (eg not the size of a regular pc.) and it shouldn't cost more then 350 euro or so without disks.
If I can mount one or two sata 1TB disks I'm happy.
Bonus points for solutions where I have total control over the "OS" on it, where the hardware platform exists of standardized easily replacable parts and if it's powerfull enough to do encryption. (I'm prepared to throw in extra cash for these features)
    I guess my options are:
    1) a product that supports what I want out of the box.  I couldn't find that (unless ridiculously expensive, eg 500 euro or more without disks)
    2) a product that *almost* does what I want, but where you can install a small Linux distro/freenas over the original firmware so you can do what you want.  Basically any appliance (be it a storage device, embedded platforms, network equipment, ...) that can host hard disks and where you can overwrite the OS is worth looking into.
    3) building something myself.  I've seen some really small motherboards based on Atom cpu's, or even embedded stuff can be enough (something like soekris, pc-engines, etc).  But it needs 2 sata ports then, I need to find a housing, a psu, etc. SFF-pc's such as shuttle's etc can also be good options
    Any tips, pointers, ideas ?
    Thanks

    * There are no Atom boards with more then 2 sata ports.  (the msi's still are to be expected)
    * Taking an intel board with a slow celeron / amd with sempron can be an option, it will be fast , stable and not expensive.  I'm told it wouldn't pull too much power either. (although more then atom/epia)
    * "ready-to-go" SFF-pc's/barebones can be found in the <300 euro price range, making this a good target for a simple 1/2-disk NAS

I ended up installing the OS on a CompactFlash card, so the hard drive would have to run constantly. As a result, it's nice and quite, uses little power, and the OS on the CF card is automatically backed up to the hard drive. I wrote up a detailed description of the project here: http://rockhoppernotes.blogspot.com/200 … sktop.html.
    Thanks, looks quite good.
Except one thing: the 945GC chipset has a TDP of 22.2W.. that's stupid imo, and defeats the whole purpose of a low-tdp cpu such as the Atom.  Right now I'm still doubting between waiting for an Atom board based on the 945GM(S)/945GSE chip (TDP 6Watt) (eeebox has that one, some MSI mini-ITX boards should be available in january) or going for a socket775 board with an intel core2 45nm cpu, which would consume not much more then Atom+ 945GC chipset (when idle, loaded is much more but I don't plan to load it ).
Nvidia is also working on an Atom chipset but I don't think I'll wait for that.

How can I find my email in Apple Mail from before my company switched hosting providers?  People with Outlook in my company have all of their old and new emails.  My old emails have vanished from my Apple Mailbox on my macbook and other Apple devices.  I do not have my mail backed up in time machine recently nor did I export my emailbox recently.  Any ideas?

Try looking in your User folder.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • SharePoint hosted App that listens and log SharePoint Events

Basically, what I need, is something that can listen to all events fired in SharePoint and write them to a custom list.
I was thinking of making this as a SharePoint hosted app because it has to work on SP Online as well.
The idea is then, to let a provider hosted app read the custom list every x minutes and do it's own logic depending on the events it reads from the custom list.
So the question is, how do I catch all the events fired in SharePoint and should it be a SharePoint hosted app that does it?
Any thoughts on how to solve this?
    Thanks.
    Thomas Bomann, simplySo

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to track all the event fired in SharePoint .
