ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf - KB Exclusion

All,
I am trying to get the Windows Update (Post-App Install) task working correctly.  I've tried to exclude the packages that I do not want to install.  Here's the lines in my CustomSettings.ini
WUMU_ExcludeKB1=940157    ;  Windows Search
WUMU_ExcludeKB2=944036    ;  IE8
WUMU_ExcludeKB3=982670    ;  .Net 4
WUMU_ExcludeKB4=909520    ;  Smart Card
WUMU_ExcludeKB5=2267621  ;  Security Essentials
WUMU_ExcludeKB6=968930    ;  Powershell
WUMU_ExcludeID001 =  7a25c7ec-3798-4413-a493-57a259d18959  ;  Live Essentials
None of these are working however and it is all getting installed.  Any assistance would be nice.
Thanks,
Graeme

    About 10 minutes later, I ran ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf /debug:true, manually & it worked.
    Is this a timing issue?
    Is there anything I can do to help avoid failures like this, such as adding a 30 second pause for all TS' just before the "Windows Update (Pre-Application Installation)" step?

    No clue, http 503 suggests some kind of server error.
    This article:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-80244022#1TC=windows-7 suggests that it's some kind of network connectivity issue.

  • SCCM won´t capture image after ZTIWindowsUpdate

    Hi!
    We are running SCCM 2012 R2 and are using ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf
    to update our images.
    Now we are having trouble that the image doesn't get captured after we have ran
    ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf in a Build and Capture OSD.
    This is the last entries from ZTIWindowsUpdate.log:
    More to install, Please reboot and run again!

    Running ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf is the last step in the Task Sequence before the capture.
    There are 41 updates and according to the log they all get installed properly.

    The link Torsten supplied is the best place to start.  Make sure you are not installing any updates that require multiple reboots.  You can exclude those updates using something like this:

  • PXE boot no longer working - blank cmd windows shown. If run Scripts/Litetouch file from target machine wizards runs as expected??

    Hi, My MDT server no longer works as expected via PXE boot. After the target machine loads the .wim file an empty command windows is shown. I have returned the custom settings.ini and bootstrap files to default and ensured nothing is being skipped within
    the task sequence within both files in hope of viewing the wizard.
    However from the same target machine if I map drive to my Deploymentshare/Scripts directory and run LiteTouch file I am asked for domain credentials and the Deployment wizard is displayed asking for task sequence to be selected.
    I believe this error is a result of two things:
    1) I applied some windows updates to my mdt server (running on 2008 r2).
    2) I was implementing changes to
    ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf   which i have now returned to default settings.
    I have also regenerated boot images and re added to WDS.
    Any help much appreciated?
    Regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    This sounds familiar; I only encounter this behaviour with certain kinds of laptops (Latitude E65x0) but I usually just provide the "wpeutil reboot" command in the empty command window to keep things going. All other hardware is deployed with the
    same task sequence and this behaviour does not occur anywhere else...
    A bit obvious maybe, but did you check if there is still a "Next Phase" step present and enabled following directly after the "Install Operating System" step?

  • MDT 2012 upd 1 and Windows / Component updates

    I am trying to create a deployment for Win 7 x64 in MDT 2012, and it is going quite well.  My problem is with the Windows Update passes -- for some reason it misses many Office and Component updates until I go to deploy.  Then it takes another
    hour to grab and install those.  I don't understand why it does not grab them during the TS process.
    I am doing a staged capture in a VM environment, starting with a zero-touch capture that includes Office 2010 and all the updates.  This is my thin image and it takes about 5.5 hours through capture.  Then I take this thin image, add standard apps
    that cannot be silently installed, customize desktop options that cannot be easily automated (another huge pain, but another topic), and, I was hoping, install all the updates for Office 2010 and other non-OS components.
    In the first TS, I run the updates pre-installation, use the TS step to install Office, and run them again post-installation.  It does pick up a few, but then the logs say the system is fully updated and goes on to the next step.
    In the second TS, I use the post-installation update step.  One of the apps I use installs SQL components, and the TS picks up on this and installs several updates it finds.  Then it decides the machine is up to date and moves on, skipping about
    40 updates as of this writing.
    As a test, I inserted a reboot step between app installation and the post-install Update step, but it still ignored the Office updates.  Research on the issue turned up the idea that at some point ZTIWindowsUpdate turns on the extra updates, and also
    several suggestions that this is how it is supposed to work (and why the standard TS is designed this way).
    I rolled my VM back to the suspended point and I'm running WU manually at the console.  I had to enable "Microsoft Update" manually, and now it is happily pulling down the updates.  I just hope there's enough smarts left in the VM to
    run to  the task to completion.
    I'm hoping that some whiz with the process can enlighten us on how to force ZTIWindowsUpdate to search for critical updates for all Microsoft components, not just the OS ones.
    UPDATE:
    Digging into the code and logs, it seems that a certain condition is not occurring to trigger the Microsoft Update service; bFoundMU must be true for this to happen.  A ServiceID hard coded is not being matched--the reason escapes me.  Near as
    I can tell, after a magic reboot it finally finds a match for this ServiceID.  Hopefully this snippet does not get munged...
        On Error Resume Next
                Item = oFSO.GetFileVersion ( ees("%SystemRoot%\System32\WUAUENG.DLL" ) )
                oLogging.CreateEntry "Ready to Opt-In to Microsoft Update: WUA Version: " & Item , LogTypeInfo
                Set ServiceManager = nothing
                Set ServiceManager = CreateObject("Microsoft.Update.ServiceManager")
            On Error Goto 0
            If ServiceManager is nothing then
                oLogging.CreateEntry "Failed to Create Object: Microsoft.Update.ServiceManager" , LogTypeWarning
            Else
                bFoundMU = False
                For each Item in ServiceManager.Services
                    WScript.Echo "Registered Update Service: " & Item.ServiceID & "   " & Item.Name
                    If Item.ServiceID = "7971f918-a847-4430-9279-4a52d1efe18d" then
                        bFoundMU = True
                    End if
                Next
                oLogging.CreateEntry "Microsoft Update Service:  Enabled = " & bFoundMU, LogTypeInfo
                If not bFoundMU then
                    On Error Resume Next
                        Err.clear
                        ServiceManager.ClientApplicationID = "My App"
                        If Err.Number <> 0 then
                            oLogging.CreateEntry "There was an error getting Windows Update to opt into Microsoft Update. Please verify you are running the latest version
    of Windows Update Agent." , LogTypeWarning
                        End if
    The logs look virtually identical between the two runs.  This is getting way deeper than I understand the update process or about service IDs.
    UPDATE 2:
    Digging further, it seems that the the condition of bFoundMU has no bearing on whether or not MU is used, but possibly the existence of muauth.cab.  From the deploy log where it actually started, bFoundMU is still false, but at that point the Office
    updates started to come in:

    After the subsequent reboot, bFoundMU was set to true.

    Another detail I neglected to mention is that I am using two separate deployment shares, one for building the deploy image and the other for actual deployments.  I think I found another clue in the log, muauth.cab:

    If oEnvironment.Item("WsusServer") = "" then
                              iResult = oUtility.FindFile("muauth.cab", strCabPath)
                            If iResult <> Success then
                                '// "" will force a internet search for cab file

    Indeed, the muauth.cab file was present in my first one, but not the deployment one.  As the log says, since there is no muauth.cab file, the code will then go download it.
    I don't know how, when, or why this happened (why is it in my first DS and not my second?), but a simple test this evening will confirm my suspicion that if the file is not present it will update as expected.

  • Whats the best way to apply office updates during OSD task sequence with Software Update Agent disabled?

    I am trying to update office via the SCCM 2012 R2 OSD task sequence. I know offline updating only updates the core components in the WIM and I'm trying to figure out how to add office updates as well. I am aware of using powershell to try and kick off
    a WU scan as seen here:
    http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/01/24/use-powershell-commands-to-assist-with-patching-during-sccm-image-build/
    But the kicker is we don't use SCCM to update the workstations (Solo WSUS install). Is there a way to do this (maybe set the client in the TS to switch on SUP, then off again when it goes off into production) rather than have to build a new image every month?

    You could use the ZTI_WindowsUpdates.wsf script from MDT.
    http://scriptimus.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/mdt-2012-automating-updates-in-lite-touch-deployments/
    How does it work?
    The task sequence steps run a script called ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf. The script uses the
    Windows Update Agent API to manage the downloading and installation of updates. All audit information is written to the
    ZTIWindowsUpdate.log file. If you find any unusual error codes in your log returned from the API (although I never have)  you can compare the codes
    here. The script will also check and update the
    Windows Update Agent(WUA) as needed at the start.
    In its default state, the ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf script will connect to Microsoft Update then search for and download all available updates including Security Patches, Drivers, Browser Updates and Service Packs. This is essentially the same
    as opening the GUI and selecting check for updates.

  • Update win of windows 7 use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit.

    Hi all !
    I have computers run winodows 7 join domain. Because security, I have disconnected internet of computer run windows 7 , never.
    But, I want to automatic update win for windows 7. Can i  use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to do it ?
    So, Can you help me ?
    Thanks and best regards .

    The MDT ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf script can automatically update your client machine. However it will require network access to update. BY default it will connect to the MIcrosoft Windows UPdate servers, or you can redirect the client machine to go to a local
    WSUS (WIndows Server Update Services) Machine.
    If you do not want to support any network access, you can manually add all updates as applications and install them manually via ZTIApplications.wsf

  • MDT 2013, D: Wim not applying after update from MDT 2010 to 2013

    Updated MDT from MDT 2010 Update 1 to MDT 2012 Update 1, uninstalled WAIK, Installed MDT 2013, and then ADK, Upgraded all Deployment shares along the way, and now the extra drive (D:) Wim will not apply to Drive, i have tried two different ways to handle
    the said action, the first was using the Unattend.xml, adding the  DataImage Action, the other was using an Imagex command from the MDT task sequence. neither is applying the Wim, before the upgrade this worked. has any one else had this issue?
    Thank you,

    I moved from MDT 2010 to MDT 2013 and its just not working, i have tried a few different methods, the old way we used the
    Unattend.xml and placed a install order and that always worked, but now i am trying to use Imagex and its not applying the wim, when i get in the image the D:\ (Second Drive) is missing files.  Now here is the weird part, if i re-run the task sequence
    the D WIM is applied, but that's counter productive. i will apply my TS.xml information.

  • Include "SKIPPED" WSUS updates MDT2012

    So, thanks to Scriptimus Prime a.k.a. Andrew Barnes, I finally manage to embed my WSUS updates that are downloaded directly from the Microsoft Windows Updates Server into a running build or deployment sequence, however, when I run a query I can see that
    language packs for W7 Enterprise are automatically skipped without having to exclude them into my customsettings.ini
    Now I can service those language packs (.cab files) with DISM into my reference image, but wouldn't it be nicer to just install them right away, even though they are optional language packs!? But the thing is they are all ready skipped if I run a ZTIwindowsupdate.wsf
    /query, I can see it in the bdd.log that the optional language packs are marked as SKIP or SKIPPED.

    OPtional updates are not enabled by IsHidden, but by: BrowseOnly=1
    Additionally, there is no need to modify the source, just change the task sequence command line for Windows Update:
    cscript.exe "%SCRIPTROOT%\ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf" "IsInstalled = 0 and IsHidden = 0 OR BrowseOnly = 1"
    However, you mention that the updates *are* appearing in the bdd.log file, just marked as "SKIP" that seems odd to me, can you run the following script on your computer and e-mail me the results?
    param(
    [string] $Filter = "IsInstalled = 0 OR BrowseOnly = 1"
    $objSession = New-Object -ComObject "Microsoft.Update.Session"
    foreach ( $UPdate in $objSession.CreateUpdateSearcher().Search($Filter).Updates )
    [pscustomobject] @{
    ID = $update.Identity.UpdateID
    KB = $update.KBARticleIDs | %{ $_ }
    URL = $update.MoreInfoUrls | %{ $_ }
    Type = $Update.Categories | %{ $_.Name }
    Title = $update.Title
    Auto = $update.autoSelectOnWebSites
    CanRequest = $Update.InstallationBehavior.CanRequestUserInput

  • Free goods - Exclusive - Quantity of free goods

    I want to give free goods by the condition record I have made at the tcode VBN1. Free godds will be given by the exclusive technique. The material code of the main material with active prcing is 100005 and the material that I will give as free good is 700001. For every 4 pieces of 100005 I will give 1 piece of 700001. I have entered 100005 at the "Material" column, 4 at the "Min. qty" column, 4 at the "For" column st at the "Unit" column, 1 at the "add. FG" column, ST at the "AddQTYUnit" column, 1 at the "Calc.Rule" column, 2 at the "FreeGoods" column, 700001 at the AddMatFrGd" column. The system gives 2 free goods (700001) for 6 priced material (100005) or 4 pieces of 700001 for 14 pieces of 100005. On the other hand I want the system to give free goods for the exactly enough piece of price material. I mean: 2 pieces of 700001 for 8 or 9 or 10 or 11 pieces of 100005; not 2 pieces of 700001 for 6 or 7 pieces of 100005 but the system behaves this way. can anybody help me abput this subject?
    Thanks in advance for the answers....

    Hi Yasar,
    You need to create a new routine for calculate type.
    Do as below:
    1. Go to VOFM>Formulas>calc.rule Rebate InKd to create a new routine for calculate type.  for example 601.
    2. add the following code in this routine 601 and then save.
      USING L_FRM STRUCTURE KONDN_FRM.
    DATA: VORKOMMA  LIKE KONDN-KNRMM,
           NACHKOMMA LIKE KONDN-KNRMM.
      L_FRM-NRMENGE = 0.
      L_FRM-NRRUND  = 0.
      L_FRM-NRMENGE = ( L_FRM-MGLME / L_FRM-KNRNM * L_FRM-KNRZM ).
    business rounding
        VORKOMMA = FLOOR( L_FRM-NRMENGE ).
      L_FRM-NRRUND  = L_FRM-NRMENGE - VORKOMMA.
      L_FRM-NRMENGE = VORKOMMA.
    3. Select routine 601 in field "Calc.Rule" when you create free goods condition record.
    Hope it helps.

  • Free Goods (Use of Inclusive & Exclusive at the same time)

    Hi Gurrus,
    i have a scenario and i need your help.
    my company has started given free goods to the customers.
    Example,
    if a customer buy 4 PAC of material "A", He should get 1 PAC of Material "A"  and also 8 PAC of Material "B".
    That means I have to use Inclusive and Exclusive at the same time in one order for Material A.
    My requiremet is if the order booker enters 4 PAC of Material in an order so system should generate two sub item lines,
    1 PAC of Material "A" as "TANN" &
    8 PAC of Material "B" as "TANN".
    I have tried to capture this through VBN1 but system is only allowing me to enter either inclusive or exclusive condition record for one material.

    hi,
           ya, it is possible to create free goods for 1:n material for inclusive & exclusive for 2 materials.
    create a sale order  2 material with diff qty.& free goods for 2 diff qty for inclusive & exclusive

  • Free Goods Determination - Exclusive

    Hi All,
    Am trying to enable Free Goods determination (exclusive). I have set up the free goods determination procedure and the condition record. However, when I create my sales Order for the original material, a new line is generated with the material that should be given away for free however the quantity field is not populated. Any idea as to what I may be doing wrong ?
    Condition Record is as follows (VBN1)
    Material - Material A (This is the material for which the SO is raised)
    Min Qty - 2
    From - 2
    UnitFG - EA
    add FG - 1
    AddQtyUnit - 1
    in % = 33 % (this is an auto field that is calculated)
    Calc Rule - 3
    Free Goods - 2
    AddMatFrGd - Material B (This is the material that should be provided for free)
    FGDelyCont - B
    Your help is immensely appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Imran

    Hi Ramesh,
    Thanks for your input. I did try your suggestion out, Calculation Rule 2,  but it still does not work. I have attached the procedure to my document type.
    When the SO is being created, an additional line item is generated with the free good material but without a quantity. how do i get it such that the quantity is also proposed on the new line item generated for the free good based on what has been defined in the condition record.
    Regards,
    Imran

  • Exclusive Free Goods

    Dear Experts,
    In transaction VBN1, is there anyway where I can set "Exclusive" and Calculation type "2" as default. This is to prevent the users from accidentally maintaining "Inclusive" free goods. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Sager,
    Thanks for your feedback.However,  it doesnt solve my problem as I would like default it to "Exclusive" and Calcuation type needs to be defaulted to "2" instead of maintaining it manually.

    dear Collegues,
        I have an issue, my client want me to configure Free goods exclusive ie 10+2 offer, but when i am creating a sales order or billing, the Net value will be for 10 items, Excise will be calculated on 12 pieces  as its a manufacturing unit, and the tax must be calculated only for 10 piece how can i do this, Kindly suggest me.
    regards,

    Sir
    For this requirement only the suggestion was sent earlier
    You have to achieve thro alignment of steps and from and to in PP
    In real sense this settings is a challenge for any SD consultants ablitity
    It is difficult for me to explain step by step without looking at your screen or without knowing what are all the condition types you are having in PP
    Pls let me know what are all the  condition types you have in your PP and their alignment
    Because it can be achieved in standards
    Sir
    Have you got this correct?
    Once you do the correct settings you yourself will wonder is it this simple?
    The importance of From and to and the importance of alignment of steps in PP does the trick here
    All the best
    Regards
