10g Personal Ed and Standard Ed. Differences?

Hi Guys,
Could anyone tell me what is the difference between the Personal Edition and the Standard Edition Windows Install. According to the product family guide, it just says its good for development work on the desktop, but i am not sure what that entails. Does the Personal Edition Lack somes features compared to the Standard Edition. Does it just use less memory, and lots of services are not started by default?
April

Bottom line is yes.... at least in my experience.
I've installed 10G(r1), 10GXpress, and 10Gr2 on a corporate laptop (tiny tablet PC actually) to try to get away from the MS Loopback adapter issue without any success.
I've found with each one I had to install or configure some loopback adapter and modify the configuration files to use it or I would simply run into the same problems with the IP address at bootup.
The problem seems to lie in the point of installation with the computer being connected to any network and looking for its own static IP address. This problem is a pain when you want the computer to either be mobile or use a DHCP hosted IP.
I have tested an proven the solution on over 150 deployed 10G family databases on a deployed farm of mobile computers, if you need any pointers....

  • 10g Personal edition and DHCP

When installing the 10gR2 Personal edition of Oracle onto a machine with DHCP, does the need for a loopback adapter to fake a static IP address still apply ?
I can understand the need for a fixed IP address when installing the server edition (standard or enterprise), but does that also apply to personal edition ?
Given that the purpose of personal edition is to be installed on workstations, which will almost certainly use DHCP, this would mean everyone wanting to use personal would also need to setup a loopback adapter. Is this so, or does the need for a fixed IP address not apply to personal edition, as it is a single user edition that no one else can connect to ?
    Thanks,

  • Cost Updating and Standardized cost difference apportion

    Dear All,
1、 Cost updating:Standardized cost or average cost change is updated across all sub-inventory simultaneously, but the update should exclude the inventory that lends stocks (we do not want to update the cost of lending stock).
2、Standardized cost difference apportion:Standardized cost difference apportion is operated manually without system support (we want to do the apportion when stocks are delivered).
I am stuck up with these question ..
please let me know the solution or the workaround to achive this

  • Database 10g personal edtion with apex3.0?

    Hi gurus,
I just installed Database 10g personal edtion, and I want to install apex 3.0, is it Ok?

    According to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/oracle10g/pdf/twp_general_10gdb_product_family.pdf
Oracle 10g Personal Edition is equal to a Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition, so APEX 3.0 should work on the Personal Edition, too.
Just go ahead and try the installation.

  • Differences between Oracle Personal Edition and Enterprise Edition

What are the differences between the databases of Oracle Personal Edition and the Oracle Enterprise Edition..?

I have just looked at the metalink document and see that Oracle are still blatantly lying about the availability of analytical functions.
We chose standard edition on the basis of this document and were very annoyed to find we could not use analytical functions.
The document is about 8i. Of course we are all on 9i these days aren't we ?

  • Difference jb/w text symblosin script and standard text in scripts

    hi to all
can u pols explain about the
difference b/w text symblos in script and standard text in scripts

    hi
Default paragraph Paragraph set to * in <b>standard text</b> maintenance
If no form has been assigned to a text, the system automatically assigns the form SYSTEM, which contains minimal definitions for text formatting. There are two ways of formatting texts using forms: • Use the <b>standard text</b> maintenance to enter and print the text.
Any kind of text can be included in a form. If no object is specified, then TEXT will be used (<b>standard texts</b>).
    <b>
    Text Symbols</b>
Text symbols acquire their values as a result of explicit assignment. To interactively assign text symbols, in the text editor choose Include &#61614; Symbols &#61614; Text. This method is available for all text symbols belonging to a text module as well as those of the associated form. Values defined in this way are lost when the transaction is left. If you want to print the text module again, then you must enter the symbol values again. The purpose of the DEFINE command is to provide a means of making this value assignment a permanent part of the text, so that the values are available again when the text module is called again. This command can also be used to re-assign a new value to a text symbol half-way through the text. Syntax: /: DEFINE &symbol_name& = 'value'
/: DEFINE &subject& = 'Your letter of 7/3/95' The value assigned can have a maximal length of 60 characters. It may itself contain other symbols. A symbol contained within the value assigned to another symbol is not replaced with its own value at the point at which the DEFINE command is executed. Rather, this replacement is made when the symbol defined in the DEFINE command is called in the text.
/: DEFINE &symbol1& = 'mail' /: DEFINE &symbol2& = 'SAP&symbol1&' /: DEFINE &symbol1& = 'script' &symbol2& -> SAPscript If, however, the DEFINE command is written using the ':=' character rather than the '=' character, then any symbol contained within the value being assigned is replaced immediately with its current value. The assignment to the target symbol is made only after all symbols in the value string are replaced with their values. The total length of the value string may not exceed 80 characters. The target symbol must be a text symbol, as before.
    /: DEFINE &symbol1& = 'mail' /: DEFINE &symbol2& := 'SAP&symbol1&' /: DEFINE &symbol1& = 'script' &symbol2& -> SAPmail
    Inserting <b>Text Symbols</b>
    Procedure
    Inserting a Text Symbol
    1. Choose Insert &#8594; Symbols &#8594; Text.
    2. Place the cursor on the desired text symbol.
    3. Choose Choose.
    4. The system inserts the text symbol.
Editing the Value of a Text Symbol
    1. Choose Insert &#8594; Symbols &#8594; Text.
    2. Choose Edit value bearbeiten. The dialog window Value definition for symbol <text symbol> appears.
    3. Enter the appropriate value definition.
    4. Choose Continue. In the dialog window Text symbols the specified value appears after the name of the text symbol.
    5. Choose Continue.
    Deleting all Text Symbol Values
    1. Choose Insert &#8594; Symbols &#8594; Text.
    2. Choose Delete all values. The system deletes all defined values.
    3. Choose Continue.
Using Formatting Options for Text Symbols
    1. Choose Insert &#8594; Symbols &#8594; Text.
    2. Choose Options. The dialog window Formatting options for <text symbol> appears.
    3. Fill in the fields.
    4. Choose Continue.
    5. Choose Continue. The system executes the selected formatting option.

  • Differences beetwen Oracle AS 10g Release 2 and Release 3

    Hi
Could you give me links or just write about differences between Oracle AS 10g Release 2 and Release 3. I have books to Oracle 10g AS Release 2, and I don't know, what information are incorrect with reference to Release 3. I've found this link http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/core.1013/b32196/whatsnew.htm#sthref7 , but Oracle 10g AS Release 3 for example does not require a metadata repository. So where can I find all diferences?
    Thanks awfully for help.

Application Server 10R2 (10.1.2.0.2) includes products such as OID, Forms & Reports, Discoverer, Oracle Portal etc. These are not included in Application Server 10R3, which was a JEE only install geared towards JEE solutions.
Both versions will be desupported in December 2011 so I would spend to much time on these versions. Go with Fusion Middleware 11g : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/index.htm

  • Difference between Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition for Oracle RAC

    Hi,
In our current setup we have RAC on standard edition and client is now planning to go for Enterprise Edition but not yet decide because of cost.
Is there any difference between Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition ?
They told me to first install Enterprise Edition and then will move to Standard Edition if they can't get the EE license so in that case do i have to re-install Grid infrastructure for standard edition?

There is no "Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition", is only Grid Infrastructure 11gR2.
About Oracle Clusterware (Grid Infrastructure) licensing.
At least one of the servers in the cluster is licensed for Oracle Database (SE1, SE, or EE)
A cluster is defined to include all the machines that share the same Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) and Voting Disk.

    About Database licensing.
    http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/enterprise-edition/comparisons/index.html
Note : Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), is an option to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition and included with Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition (on clusters with a maximum of 4 sockets).
If you move to Oracle EE you must purchase a separate licence to use RAC option
    About Installation:
Nothing changes on your current setup of Grid Infrastructure 11.2
Just install a new fresh installation of Oracle Database (On current clusterware) chosing E.E during Install. Configure the database/services to start from this new ORACLE HOME. Nothing change on Database all previous backup and features used still unchanged. Using this new Oracle Home new features are enabled to be used by your databases.

  • Difference between Standard cost and standard price

    Hi:
I have gone through google but i could not find any answer to the question clicking my mind. When we talk about standard cost and standard price..Should they be taken synonymously? Are these two same concepts... If there is any difference between two please do let me know..Similarly is there any difference between Actual cost and actual price. Please guide
    Br

For Finished Goods,  Cost is nothing but your manufacturing or procurement cost.
Where as Price is nothing but your sales price of the same Finished Goods.
Simply when you buy, it is cost and when you sell it is price.
Price includes cost + Profit or loss.
But from SAP point of view Standard Price field in Material master is Standard Cost.
Standard cost will be arrived when we manufacture or procure
Sale price will be entered in Sale order as condition value.

  • What's the difference between wcc system components and standard components

    hi Experts,
My customer has a question on the difference between wcc system components and standard components, I didn't find it from doc, anyone can help on answering this?
    Best regards

    Hi ,
System components are those which are providing the basic functionalities on UCM server by default . Standard components are those which are provided as-in on the server but need to be enabled per case basis . For example Framework Folders which is not necessary for the basic functionalities but is needed if user wants to .
This guide gives the administration level overview for UCM  : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10792/toc.htm
    Hope this helps .

  • Difference between personal folder and personal category

    Hi All,
I am new to this site, I want to post my query. Is this a right place to post my queries? If it is wrong please guide me, where to post my query related to CMC.
My question is, What is the difference between personal folder and personal category in central management console (CMC)?
    Thanks and regards,

    HI
Item Category determines the processing of any Item/material that we enter in a sales order and in this way it also effects the procesing of any sales doc in which it is used.
Item Category Group is one of the component which along with the Sales Doc Type, The Item Usage and Higher Level Item Category decide about the Item Category in a sales doc.
Item category determination enables, the system proposes the corresponding item category for sales document type through item category group. t-code: VOV4
Fields in the item category determination:
Sales document type, item category group, item usage, and higher-level item category
Default item category, manual item category
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/43/3bcfea0bff11d2956700a0c9306667/frameset.htm
    refer below for further details
Item category is for a particu;lar sales order item and it has integration with sales document type and material master.
In material master ,you must have seen the item category grp in basic data and sales area data.
That means your item category is assigned to the combination of sales document type and item category grp in the configuration.
Whenever you will create an order for a particular type and you will put your material then your item category will be determined automatically.
Configuration is done by spro---sd -sales-sales document item----assign item category

  • Difference Between Cahs Sales, Rush Order and Standard Order

    Hi gurus,
I want to know whole configration for rush order and difference between 1. Rush order and cash sales. 2. cash sales and standard order.
Would u please help me for this...
    Regards
    Prashant.

    Hi,
    1) Cash sale : in this delivery automatically happen when you save the sales order.  After that you have to give an invoice to the customer.
    2) Rush order. Here also delivery automatically happen when you save the sales order. But the difference is you can send invoice after some time but the delivery should happen immidately.
If you goto any super market first, you pick up the item and then pay the bill and then you will get the bill, this process is cash sales.
Cash sales is order related billing whereas RO is delivery related.
Cash sales is not relevant for availability check as you will be picking the goods whereas RO is relevant for availability check.
Cash sales is also not relevant for credit management whereas RO is relevant credit management.
Cash sales uses RD03 as output which immediately prints the invoice whereas RO uses standard output RD00.
Cash sales has one time customer account group where as RO normally doesn't.
For cash sales order type is BV or CS and for RO it is RO
Cash sales triggers petty cash a/c where as in RO customers account is debited.
Delivery and settlement will be done immediately in cash sales where as in RO only delivery will be done immediatrly.
    Rush Order/Cash Sales u2013
Rush orders and Cash sales are sales document types that are used in the sales from plant process or when the customer needs to pick their goods immediately from the warehouse.
In the sales document type, the following changes have to be made for rush order/cash sales u2013
    a. order type u2013 RO/CS
    b. shipping conditions u2013 immediately
    c. immediate delivery u2013 X
    d. lead time in days u2013 not to be specified
    e. delivery type u2013 LF/BV
    f. billing type u2013 F2/BV
    g. item category u2013 TAN/BVN
    h. schedule line category u2013 CP/CP
In case of rush orders and cash sales once the goods have been withdrawn from the warehouse, picking and posting goods issue can begin.
In case of rush orders, when you create the billing documents the system prints the invoice papers and sends them to the customer.
But in case of cash sales, an order related billing index is generated automatically. This updates the billing due list. Billing type BV is created, while the billing due list is being processed and the system does not print invoices during billing for a cash sale.
In cash sales when you save the order, the system automatically generates a cash receipt that can be given to the customer as an invoice and the goods are picked up from the warehouse immediately by the customer. You control the output with output type RD03, contained in the output determination procedure for order type CS.
    Best Regards,
    Amit

I'm not familiar with these concepts of personalized URLs and vanity URLs, but after a little bit of research it appears to pose the same issues as Search Engine Optimization as it relates to informative URLs.
Search on this forum for Search Engine Optimization or SEO and you'll find some ideas that should be equally applicable to personalized/vanity URLs.
