Activatable server's and windows nt logoff

Hi,
I have developed an activatable server which is supposed to always be running. The rmid and rmiregistry is installed as services using the xyntservice tool. rmid and rmiregistry are started with the -xrs option to prevent them from closing upon logoff.
The activatable server supports two methods. Start and stop. Upon installation of the server its started. All works well and the server is running ok. Thanks to the wonderfull activation api it is even restarted if the host is restarted.
My problem is that the activatable server is closing down upon nt logoff. I have no problem restarting it from a client using the start method but its annoying since I want it to always be running - other applications in the network relies on it running!
Someone got any clues?

Thanks,
Your info pointed me into the right directions. I now realize that I need to pass -Xrs to the environment starting my server. This can probably be done as you describe below but I simply pass -C-Xrs as option to rmid. In my case this is sufficient.
Supply your own
ActivationGroupDesc.CommandEnvironment, specifying the
appropriate command line to start a service (I don't
know what that is, sorry), rather than just letting it
start java.exe by itself as it normally would.

  • Server 2008 R2 with WSUS need to specify location for Feature install for Server 2012 and Windows 8

Having a problem where we need to add .net 3.5, amongst other things, in server 2012 and windows 8.1.  We're using WSUS on server 2008 R2, so when I go to add roles or features, I'm not able to as it tries to use Windows Update but it's set to use WSUS.
I'm aware in server 2012 gpo's that you enable the policy 'specify settings for optional component installation and component repair' in Administrative Templates>System, however that setting is not available in Server 2008 R2.
I've downloaded the templates from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36991 but the setting is still not there.
Any suggestions on how to do this/allow feature install with Server 2008 R2?

    Hi,
To upgrade the Administrative Templates, please run the downloaded msi file, then copy the needed admx files and adml files to the PolicyDefinitions folder.

    Dear All,

    Hi,
    Quote:
All editions of Windows Server 2008 R2 are 64-bit only.

  • Windows server 2012 and windows xp remote desktop connection loss

I am having this problem for a month now, and i am stumped with trying to find an answer . I have talked with several network admins in my area and with no luck i have not found a solution. I have a windows server 2012 placed with 5 pcs that are connected
on a local network , those 5 pc's connect to the server via remote desktop. List of pc's:
    1x Windows 7
    4x Windows XP SP3
All have the latests network drivers, all have the latest version of remote desktop installed. All have been scanned for viruses. All have antivirus software.
Problem is the 4 XP machines lose connection on when connected via remote desktop. If one starts losing connection the other 3 start to lose the connection aswell. The windows 7 machine is not affected by this it works fine.
    What have I tried:
    Scanning for viruses.
    Disabling Firewall and antivirus software.
    Updating all drivers.
Did many changes to group policy like keepalives etc.
    Turning off SMBv2 SMBv3.
Turning off network adapter Offload settings.
Changed some registry settings like keepalive, smb etc.
Updating every pc and server with all windows updates.
    Changed the router and switch.
Port forwarded needed ports like 3389.
    Updating remote desktop to 7.0.
I might be forgetting some stuff i will add as i remember anything.
So the thing is this. I use a Windows XP machine from my office I remotely connect to the server via the Internet and I DO NOT experience any connection loss. BUT the XP machines on the local network constantly experience connection loss via remote desktop.
I pinged every Machine from the server via CMD command PING. So when they lose connection the Packets get time outs . Packets get dropped between 1-10 packets when a connection is lost. This packet drop does not occur when using the internet or anything else.
ONLY when connected to the server via remote desktop. The packets get dropped at random intervals.
Problem is I use an XP machine and I am not experiencing any loss of connection , while the XP machines on the local network experience it , but not the windows 7 machine.
Router is ASUS RT-N53 , and switch is Dlink DES-1008D. Server is a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
Can someone please tell me what can i do to solve this problem?

So today got some word from their office. They were using RDP from 8AM until 12PM all was working fine. Then got back after lunch about 1PM and got a few connection lost errors when they tried using RDP again. Its weird since they didn't have disconnects
in the morning, and started having them after lunch.
Also noticed, that two pc were not using RDP and were disconnected as shown in task manager. And they still got request timeouts.
Maybe this is not a remote desktop issue?

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Windows 8 Compatibility

Is there a fix or workaround for accessing email via Outlook 2013 (Windows 8) when your company uses Microsoft exchange server 2003 and has not plans on upgrading it any time soon. I am a remote employee so I am the only one that has this problem in the
company. I can access email through an owa account but it's a pain. I tried to set up a rule to have all incoming mail forwarded to my gmail account in Outlook 2013, but that did not work. Any other ideas?

If server has enabled ActiveSync you can use Windows 8 Mail Client - works almost like Outlook.
AFAIR Outlook 2013 can't work with Exchange 2003.

  • Group policy Preferences server 2008 and windows 7

Hi I have been struggling with an issue with group policy preferences for a while now with regard to pushing out printers to windows 7 (32/64 bit) Machines. I have two DC servers one is 2008 and the other is 2008 r2. I have setup the group policies on the
2008 server as it is the only one i am allowed to access regularly to do this.
Basically here is my problem. I have created multiple GPO's to send out printers from out print server to classrooms across the school district I work for, I have a mix of xp and windows 7 machines. I have the server setup with both 32 and 64bit drivers
for all printers on that server, we have a mix of oki and hp and ricoh. I know all the connections work and the drivers work well, however when I push them out using the group policy, the windows 7 machines don't install the printers. The xp machines do this
perfectly well when I install the client side extensions patch, but they just will not pull down on the 7 machines unless i install the printer first manually, then delete it and then run gpupdate. In that instance it will work, but obviously i don't want
to have to go round thousands of computers doing this manually.
Just as a side note, each classroom has its own user account and its own printer.
If anyone has any advice as to how i can go about resolving this issue i would greatly appreciate it, this has been a problem i have been researching and trying to fix since January.......

    Hi,
    >>The xp machines do this perfectly well when I install the client side extensions patch, but they just will not pull down on the 7 machines unless i install the
printer first manually, then delete it and then run gpupdate.
Before going further, we can run command
gpresult/h gpreport.html with admin privileges to collect group policy result on the troubled Windows 7 clients to check the issue. Besides, we can also check event logs in Event Viewer to see if some related error events were logged.
Besides, I want to confirm if we have disabled
Point and Print Restrictions under both User Configuration and Computer Configuration. To have a consistent experience, it’s recommended that we disable the policy setting in both locations if we are dealing with mixed-level clients.
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to for more information.
Point and Print Restrictions policies are ignored in Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, and later Windows operating systems

Can anyone point me the right direction?

Hi, I got success through this

http://syscomlab.blog.com/2012/09/directaccess-for-windows-server-2012-guide/ but I'm using NLS in a dedicated server (what is fine for me) but the Win7 client doesn't connect to DA (EDGE server) through internet. I'm using a LAB where WS2012 host acts
as a GATEWAY (using NAT) and for Windows 8 client is working fine but when I try using win7 clients it just doesn't work :(

  • Window SBS server 2008 and window server 2008 R2 on the same domain

    Hi all,
I am a person only work for linux system. Recently i work for my company that using microsoft technologie. So i have a lot of trouble. Could you please help me and below are my big troble that i have met:
In my system, i have the first window SBS server 2008 run on our domain. However my organization growth up and we have more than 150 users and mailbox of exchange server 2007. So i do not want to use my sbs server 2008 anymore.
I am going to install a window server 2008 R2 64 bit and join it into the same domain with sbs server 2008. It will be replicate the username, dns, OU and group policy...After that i will tranfer FSMO role to new server and i will demote then remove the
    sbs server.
My boss say that i should not use this solution because window server sbs can not run with any other kinds of window server 2008 (R2, standard, enterprise...) and it will automatically shutdown the main server after a couple of days.
Someone have experience can help me. I am so confuse now

Maybe this will also help to better understand the steps involved:

And remember, as long as you don't move the PDC to one of the new DCs, you can leave the SBS 2008 up indefinitely. But I would remove Exchange 2007 off it right away once I've migrated the mailboxes and public folders, otherwise
you will get yourself into an Exchange coexistence scenario which is much more complex to configure and support because of the CAS differences, changing the URLs on the old one to "legacy.domain.com," getting a new UC/SAN cert with the correct
names on it, and more. Believe me, you really don't want to coexist them. The only time I've coexisted Exchange versions is during large migrations, such as 500 or more. Otherwise, I just migrate the mailboxes over a weekend and get it done with.

  • Mac OS X Server Tiger and Windows XP SP2 (Yes I know not a good Idea)

    Hi Everybody
I have an issue. It have setup all the windows services as is said in the apple guid and I can't get it to work.
It seams to be having trouble connecting to the server / finding the server. And guesses on why this mite be. I have had issues with the DNS on the PC's as well however it works fine on the Mac's.

Not very specific about your problem.
But I think it may because you need the Win clients to use the tiger server as a WINS box.
In your windows IP settings enter the ip of the server under 'WINS'

  • Mapping issues with Server 2003 and windows 8.1 machine

We are running Windows Server 2003 and trying to map network drives through a GPO script on a Windows 8.1 machine.  The drives don't get mapped and if they do, it takes them 10minutes or more to show up.  The Folder Redirection is not working
    as well.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    This is because
by default, on client computers, Group
Policy processing is not synchronous, that is client computers typically do
not wait for the network for GPO settings to be fully initialized at startup and logon.
    Solution:
    Enable the
    policy setting Always
wait for the network at computer startup and logon to set the client computers wait
for the network for GPO settings to be fully initialized during computer startup and user logon.
Steps to enable the Policy Setting
    - Open Group Policy Management Console (start -> Run -> Type GPMC.MSC).
    - Edit the required GPO and navigate to
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Logon and enable the option Always
wait for the network at computer startup and logon

  • Os x serve 4 and windows users

    Hello,
just migrated one of my servers to Yosemite 10.10.1 and Server 4.0.
the objective is a share files between mac and windows users within a group (meaning all of them can see, read and write all files within the sharepoint).
the directory is shared with AFP and SMB, the group of users has read/write access on the directory (users and group are managed in OD).
I added ACLs on the directory : the group of users is full control on the sharepoint. And I propageted all permissions to subfolders and files.
Everything works fine for Mac users, but not for Windows users : when they open a file they got a message saying that the file is already opened by an another application. Same issue if the windows user write a new file on the server.
If i look at the permission on a subfolder, there is the full control for the group. If I look at a file (whatever from a mac or windows), there is a special access.
I think the problem is there, but how to solve.
Does somebody knows any magic command line to force propagation of ACL and permissions to files ? or any tips to solve that issue ?
    Thanks for any help
    Regards, Thomas

    Hi
OK I have tried pritty much all the suggestions so far...the MAC has no problem connecting to the PC (there's no surprise! - it worked straight away but the PC cannot connect to the mac - here's what happens:
I have the correct IP address and when I enter in the IP address and my short username, the PC prompts me with a username and password box as you would expect...but when I enter in the details, it just throws up another username and password dialog box and has changed the username to PCCOMPUTER/the-username-I-just-entered - so I click ok again, and it just throws the dialog box up again. I feel like I am so close, yet so far to connecting the PC to the Mac - it seems to get stuck in a loop at the last moment. Any ideas what could solve the problem?
It doesn't seem to be a firewall problem as I turned them all off - and still got the same problem.
    Any other ideas?

  • Sql server 2008 and Windows 8

    Hi
I published my WPF application using VS 2010 Express edition and trying to install it on Windows 8.  The application runs but when it comes to searching the database that was included in the installation package it gives the error
"This program has compatibility issues Microsoft SQL Server(2008 and 2008 R2)"
The installer when setup was run did download SQL Server so I am not sure why I am getting this error.  Any advice?

    Hello,
Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 is required to make it compatible for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. For more information,
please read the following Support article:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562?wa=wsignin1.0
You can download SP3 from the following URL:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27594
If you are installing SQL Server 2008, continue setup despite of the warning and apply SP3 after installing SQL Server 2008.
    Hope this helps.

  • User Profile Disks with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 VDI

    Hello experts!
We are building a new server setup for the office and are unable to figure out why UPD will not work. We have VDI setup and a user for instance
connecting through the RDWeb workplace will dynamically get one of the available Windows 8 Machines delivered through Hyper-V and can successfully login on this machine via Active Directory. So far so good...
However, when we activate the User Profile Disks "UPD" feature the login takes forever and the VHDX will not mount on c:\users\...
as expected within the virtual Windows 8 machine.
The UPD config is quite simple, with just the path "\\vmhost\upd\" set. This share has (now during test) full access for everyone,
both on share level and on security level, but still the VHDX will not mount.
The UVHD-template.vhdx file gets created just fine when UPD is activated, and during login through RDWeb a TEMP-UVHD-S-1-5-21-1477358240-4159876597-995667825-500.vhdx
gets created, but there it stops... The login process takes a couple of minutes by the "Windows förbereds" (roughly translated to English "Preparing Windows"), and then the user gets logged in with a temporary profile.
     - The event log says (translated using Google translate):
Failed to obtain a user profile disk for the user account with SID S-1-5-21-1477358240-4159876597-995667825-500.
Make sure the location of the user profile desk can be reached, the server's computer account has read and write permissions to the site and that there is a template file for user profile disks at the site.
Name of the virtual desk"font-size:14px;font-family:'Droid Serif', Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;color:#222222;line-height:23px;"

Please help, it should not be that hard to achieve this.

  • Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows 8.1 desktop

My questions is whether a Windows Live account and a local account can be combined in Windows 8.  I asked this question in Microsoft Community and
an MS employee said I should ask my question here.
Is there a way to have both active?
I want to reap the benefits of having a live account to keep everything in sync and fully utilize the features of Windows 8.1 but I have a Windows Home Server 2011 that requires that I have a local user account that matches the server side so that I can
    use resources on the server.
I've seen lots of tutorials for switching between the two account types but nothing for combining them.
    Is this even possible?
    Thanks in advance

Your question has not been answered.
Windows Home Server 2011 does not use domains, so even if you had Windows 8.1 Pro, you'd still be left without a solution. I have one PC with Windows 8.1 Enterprise and that does work with Home Server; and a laptop with Windows 7 Pro and that works fine
too. Like you, I have issues with Windows 8.1 Pro.
Does anyone from Microsoft Server actually read these posts?
    @PeterPensive,
the OP's original question was relating to "linking/combining" an MS Account with a Win8.x local account. That question was answered. (the answer is no), so, for a WHS scenario, linked accounts aren't possible, but, in Win8.x, an MS Account might be suitable
    for use with WHS.
Are you confirming that an MS Account on Win8.x works ok with WHS?

I'm getting the error "Unknown Database Connector Error" when I run report on the server and it works OK on crystal designer 2013.
Been reading this thread 32&64 bit Oracle Client but not much help there.
    Here are the  details
    System
    Windows Server 2012
    Crystal Server 2013 SP5
Crystal Server has been installed and appears to work fine. I was able to develop a brand new report locally and saved it to the server and it displays ok. Of course when I click on refresh on the report, it will error out due to database connection it looks like.
We have installed both oracle client drivers 64 and 32. 64 was installed first and then 32.The path has been modified so that the 32 shows up first.
I even ensure oracle_home and oracle_home32 are specified and restarted the server. I still get the same error.
The tns entries are also located in both installs of oracle client...
    What might be the issue?

Oracle Database Client 12.1.0.2.0 (32-bit and 64-bit installed)
    Installation Type: Custom
    COMPONENTS INSTALLED:
    SQLPLUS
    ORACLE NET
We are currently not using an ODBC connection.
We installed Crystal 2013 Server SP05. This is the sole package installed (believe it's the latest version) without any extra patch package installed (believe no patch needed as it's the latest version).
