If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well
If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space. Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

Mac for Dummies is a pretty good beginners' guide. But whatever you buy make sure it is a very recent edition, one that is relevant for the operating system on your MBR. The OS is updated regularly and guide books can become out of date.
By the way, iOS is not a Macintosh operating system. On the top left of the Maac screen, click the black Apple icon, then select About This Mac. The operating system is shown there. -

Hi, there! I have a late 2008 mac book pro and few months ago I upgraded the operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Since then my mac book often freezes, it is much slower than it was with Snow Leopard and the most annoying thing of all, is the almost inevidable freezing of the toolbar (where language selection, date, clock and other useful tools are located)
I was wondering if someone has experienced similar issues with his Mac Book Pro when upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion and if someone knows if and how this issue can be resolved?

Increasingly FCP runs to 104 degrees C when operating. This can damage MAC BOOK PRO RETINA components, shortening their life-span.
Can you suggest what I should do apart from shutting down word documents and other software, Parallels, Windows 7 when using FCP?
I am gravely concerned with this high heat. I have to use a remote keyboard it is so hot, but gravely concerned with with the damage the heat is doing to to MAC BOOK PRO RETINA.
ironic - given I switched to Mac from PC this year JUST for FCP editing.

My suggestion would be to optimize all of your media to ProRes .
Even though PR is a much larger file it's much easier on the CPU. Playing back compressed media is like rendering all day.
I routinely use an old 2007 MBP with a core 2 duo and FCP7. I can cut and color correct with no problem at all using ProRes LT files. The only time it gets hot is during long renders.
I have the laptop elevated on a pedestal that allows air to pass underneath . During long renders I point a small fan at it which often cools it enough to shut the internal fans down.
All that said, I know the retina is a more compact design and components are much closer to each other.
So, I'd be interested to hear from another retina owner.

Hi I got a new mac book pro retina display of 8G ram and 256GB ssd (late 2013 model). I was trying to shut down.It was taking around 20-30 secs.Is this normal? When i say shutdown i mean , i just login and shutdown.Do nothing else. I repeated the same process for 4 or 5 times. The numbers are the same.
The boot up takes around 15 secs. Are the numbers crazy or normal.

I have a Late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17" and I want to install a Samsung 840 EV 2.5 1TB. What accessories if any do I need? I want to place my order once with all that is needed to install this equipment.
No you don't. All currently available commercial hard drives and SSDs have the same SATA connectors in the exact same place.
As to being plug and play that is up to interpretation. The drive will plug into the cable but then you have to partition and format the drive for the Mac OS X operating system and then install OS X on it or restore from a Time Machine backup or Clone from your original drive to the SSD. Those things aren't necessarily Plug & Play. Not hard, just time consuming. Some more than the others. -

You can transfer your documents from within the Pages app (there are instructions here), and you can copy the app to your computer's iTunes for backup purposes (File > Transfer Purchases), but you can't use the iPad's Pages app on your Mac, they are different operating systems.

I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). The program takes only 550 MB. Any ideas why?
Thanks for the clarification on the terms. I consider myself proficent at my computer, but not exactly in its inner-workings! I have 8 GB of memory installed.
I am still confused as to why I do not have any space for the program. This is the exact error message I get: "There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD disk. The Print Shop 2 application requires about 550 MB to be installed. Free some disk space and try again."

I bought a Mac Book Pro retina display, Serial Number C02J*****2, on 8/11/2012. Unfortunately, I am unable to download updates from the App store.Whenever I tried to download updates, it shows me an error message, "we could not complete your request. there is an error in the App Store. Try again later (100). Your Apple ID has been disabled, contact iTune support". However,the problem still persists even after my password has been successfully reset. What is is the error in the app store? I really need help to resolve this issue.
Moreover,I also need help how to update to the mountain lion free of charge as my Mac pro is four(4) days old.

Thank You ecbrumIf you're handy with tools, pop the bottom pan on the Mac, take out the RAM sticks, thoroughly clean the contacts on both the sticks and the Mac (blow clean with a compressed air duster on the Mac, use isopropyl alcohol on the contacts on the RAM sticks), reseat and reinstall the sticks and retry. it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

You can also go to the App store and check under Purchases and Updates and if the update still does no appear select Store > Check for unfinished downloads.
Having said all that, please do think carefully before you do upgrade. For a great many users the latest version has been a bitter disaapointment (see various other discussions here), as it has lost considerable functionality in the drive to ensure compatitbility with iOS. -

I have a new Mac Book Pro Retinal. Should I leave the charger connected while I am at my desk or should I disconnect the charger and all the battery to full cycle?
I leave mine plugged in when at a desk most of the time.
The battery will slowly discharge from 100% to 95% even on wall power, then recharge to 100% ... to save usage of the recharge circuits.
At least once a month I use it on battery and let the battery run down to about 40%.
DO NOT run to "dead" ... that will shorten battery life.
BTW: My battery currently (after 1 year) can still hold 101% of factory-designed charge. -
I have a issue with my mac book pro. For some reason it won't stay powered on. I can't get past the apple loading logo. The battery is fully charged so it is not the problem. Can anyone tell me what the problem may be and how can i get it resolved?

Black screen before going to sleep
