Change Working Spaces

Is there a way to change the Color Settings CMYK and RGB working spaces with  js? I'm not having a problem assigning or converting profiles for a document, I want to change the application color settings.

function setWorkingRGB(space) {
  function cTID(s) { return app.charIDToTypeID(s); };
  function sTID(s) { return app.stringIDToTypeID(s); };
    var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var ref1 = new ActionReference();
        ref1.putProperty( cTID('Prpr'), sTID('colorSettings') );
        ref1.putEnumerated( cTID('capp'), cTID('Ordn'), cTID('Trgt') );
    desc1.putReference( cTID('null'), ref1 );
        var desc2 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc2.putString( sTID('workingRGB'), space );
    desc1.putObject( cTID('T   '), sTID('colorSettings'), desc2 );
    executeAction( cTID('setd'), desc1, DialogModes.NO );
function setWorkingCMYK(space) {
  function cTID(s) { return app.charIDToTypeID(s); };
  function sTID(s) { return app.stringIDToTypeID(s); };
    var desc4 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var ref3 = new ActionReference();
        ref3.putProperty( cTID('Prpr'), sTID('colorSettings') );
        ref3.putEnumerated( cTID('capp'), cTID('Ordn'), cTID('Trgt') );
    desc4.putReference( cTID('null'), ref3 );
        var desc5 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc5.putString( sTID('workingCMYK'), space );
    desc4.putObject( cTID('T   '), sTID('colorSettings'), desc5 );
    executeAction( cTID('setd'), desc4, DialogModes.NO );

  • PS CS6 Smartobject - Changing color space not working

    If I initially open a smartobject from ACR into PS CS6 using one color space, eg. sRGB, should it then be possible to click back into ACR and change color space to Adobe RGB ???
    This is important to me, since working most of the time in sRGB, batch editing lot's of files (for timelapse-video, hence sRGB), but sometimes it may be nessecary to go back and use Adobe RGB to make a best possible print of one of the stills.
    This is not working for me. I thought I should be able to do absolutely non-destructive editing when working with smartobjects from ACR, but this may seem to not be the case.
    Ole

    I understand now that a copy of the original RAW file is made when working with SO.
    Still, when checking what color space I am working in (in PS CS6), after changing from sRGB to aRGB, PS still tells me I am working in sRGB!!
    So what I am asking, going back from a SO in PS, into ACR, to change the color space, does not work.
    Is there a workaround for this?
    Or is it something I still do not understand here?

  • Changing working color space requires re-calibration?

    I calibrated my monitor and is using sRGB as working space in photoshop cs2.
    If I open an adobeRGB tagged photo, photoshop says profile mismatch. If I choose to convert adobeRGB to sRGB, would some colors get clipped by the smaller sRGB space?
    Suppose I want my working space to be adobeRGB, what are all the color management related things I need to change, in addition to choosing adobeRGB as the working space in photoshop? Do I need to change the monitor calibration process?
    I don't see any parameters in the calibration software (coloreyes display pro) related to the intended working space so I'm guessing the answer is no.

    Short answer: monitor calibration doesn't depend on
    working spaces.
    For your monitor calibration you are free to choose:
    a) min.luminance, black point, typically below 0.3cd/m2.
    b) max.luminance, typically 100cd/m2 in a dimmed room.
    c) gamma, normally gamma=2.2.
    d) white point: 6500K or 5000K or something between.
    Despite all color management, the working spaces sRGB
    and aRGB (AdobeRGB) with white points D65 (6500K) can
    be shown with 6500K or more yellowish down to 5000K.
    This color shift is not corrected by color management.
    Now you can use any RGB working space, preferably sRGB
    or aRGB, but some color ranges of aRGB are out-of-gamut
    in sRGB and in MonitorRGB, which is mostly near to sRGB.
    Therefore all color editing in aRGB, as visualized by
    the monitor, is occasionally doubtful.
    New practical applications can be found here - mainly
    for final results in CMYK:

  • When I attempt to open iphoto, I get the loading icon in the working space/picture area.  If I try to reinstall ilife '11, will I lose any pictures?  Where, on the hard drive, are all my pictures actually stored?

    You won't lose anything because you have a back up, right?
    Most Simple Back Up
    Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
    Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How can I change the space between a checkbox and text all at one time? I have a lot of checkboxes in my form.

    How can I change the space between a checkbox and text all at one time? I have a lot of checkboxes in my form.

    Okay, I haven't found a way to add an extra space using Find/replace, but you might be able to add some text wrap to the check boxes that will push the text away from them.
    Open Find/Replace and click the Object tab.
    Click the Specify attributes to find button to the right of the Find Object Format: field.
    Under Basic Attributes, choose Stroke and then the Black swatch (assuming the black swatch is applied to the strokes of your check boxes). If there are no other stand-alone objects in your form with a Black stroke, this should be all you need. (If there are Black strokes on your table cells, they will be ignored.)
    Click OK
    Click the Specify attributes to change button to the right of the Change Object Format: field.
    Under Basic Attributes, choose Text Wrap & Other > Text Wrap > Type: > Wrap around bounding box (2nd button from left)
    Under Offset, set a Right offset at the distance you'd like to add (I don't know what units you use, but the 3-5 points might work for your purposes...might take some trial-and-error to get it where you want)
    Click OK
    Click Change All

  • Major Bug in CS's color profiles, color management & working spaces

    Hi everyone:
    First of all, thanks so much for taking the time to read and answer my questions!!! I am having a having a major bug in CS3's creative suite. The problem is the following:
    1. My settings are not sticking in Photoshop. Last night I selected Adobe RGB as my working space and this morning I woke up with it being Apple RGB.
    2. Bridge. When I select one of the thumbnails of my edited files I see the colors and levels changing before my very eyes. My theory is that profiles are being assigned to the images as I select them.
    3. Photoshop. Photoshop is assigning embedded profiles (of whatever working space is selected) into my files. I have the color management system on off so this should not be happening.
    The only solutions that I came up with were to either uninstall and reinstall creative suite or upgrade to CS4. Does anyone have any other suggestions out there? I would greatly appreciate them.
    All my best,
    s_ke

    Ok open Edit > Color Settings. Where it says "color management policies" make sure that all these are set to "preserve"
    • You seem to be saying that photoshop is automatically converting images, without opening them? -  this is impossible
    • Document profiles are readable at the bottom of the image window and choosing 'document profile'
    If something strange is happening reset your Preferences, you will not need to reinstall
    It may also be that your issue is to do with monitor profiles, or something similar but its impossible to tell from your description

  • CS 6 work space flashes

    I using a trial version of CS 6 on windows 8 pro. I keep getting flashing in the work space / background when I zoom or move an image around (only some images not all). When I zoom or move an image around the background changes from transparent to various shades of gray to black. I was getting it with selections but after making some changes in Catalist I fixed it. I have the latest driver for my card. This is really annoying and I won't purchase it unitl this issue is resolved. I see many others have the same issue. It's been a long time since CS6 came out and I'm concerned this won't be fixed. I can just continue to use an older version if need be. I don't want to have to buy another video card just to use PS CS6 properly. If I turn off "Use Graphics Card" it seems fine.This card works fine with other versions so what had changed. At $700 I expect to be able to use it with my video card (AMD Radeon HD 6450) which is not too old.

    That's a known bug in Windows 8.  We've been working with the GPU vendors and Microsoft to get it fixed.  (and yes, we're amazed Microsoft shipped with these problems)   Until everyone gets the patches out, you can set the Photoshop GPU mode to "Basic" to avoid most of the problems.
    Also, search for similar topics here for additional tips.

  • Confused by embedded color profile vs. working space

    If you know that the destination of a photo is ultimately going to need the sRGB color profile (uploading book to blurb), and you are going from Lightroom to Photoshop ("edit in Photoshop CS5") do you "Convert document's colors to working space" of sRGB?
    This is what I have been doing, but when the photo is saved (in Photoshop) and then I view it in Lightroom, the photo looks completely different & gives me Exposure warnings.
    Is this because Lightroom is showing me the photo with the color profile of Pro Photo RGB?
    If yes, do I leave the photo alone, knowing that it should print correctly by Blurb &/or view correctly on a website?
    Thanks for any help you can give me!
    Laura

    The "working space" is the colour space a program uses internally.  Lightroom always uses Pro Photo RGB, there's no choice.  With Photoshop you can choose Working Space:
    I'd recommend ProPhoto, if only because that's what LR uses, so it avoids any change of working space.  I would also choose "Preserve..." in the options below, and check all the "Ask When..." options (so it warns you when something funny happens).
    If you save in Photoshop, and then re-import into LR, and it looks different, then some colour space mismatch might have happened.  The problem is likely to be in Photoshop (as there aren't any options in LR you can get wrong!)  Make sure the Photoshop "Color Management Policies" are as I've got them above.  It shouldn't matter what colour space the image is in when you import back into LR, so long as there's an embedded profile.  The embedded profile merely indicates in what colour space the image is.  LR takes note of the profile, and when you work on the image in Develop Module, it converts internally to ProPhoto RGB (but LR never alters files except metadata - if you import an sRGB jpeg then it stays sRGB - LR converts to ProPhoto RGB only for internal use).
    When you save the image in Photoshop, if you want it in sRGB:
    either use Save for Web... (and make sure "Convert to sRGB" and "Embed profile" are checked)
    or use Edit... Convert to Profile (not Assign Profile) and then save.
    Does that help?

  • Work space and color settings indicator

    A helpful feature would be some way to activate a persistent menu bar icon that indicates which work space and/or color settings a user currently has CS synchronized too. I work on both print and web projects and it would be helpful to glance at the menu bar to see what work space I am synchronized too so I know if I need to change it, rather than having to go into Bridge > Creative Suite Color Settings to see, or a particular app's color settings/mode.
    thanx,

    Nope, it must be done the other way around... your device enabled on the BES before the split workspace and personal space can be used... When it is, in your Settings (swiping down from the top bezel), you will see the choices.

  • Aperture color space / working space

    Something I have been wondering for some time now, and didn't find a real answer so far: what is Aperture's internal color space? Is it ProPhoto RGB? Does Aperture know about the camera's color space (i.e. how does it map my RAW data to its internal color space)?
    What I noticed is that images are converted to AdobeRGB before sending them to Photoshop for editing; unless this is Apertures working space (which I hope it is not), it would make sense to change that to the working space. One could work around that by first exporting a TIFF in the appropriate color space, editing that and then reimporting it to Aperture, but this sounds rather unpracticable. And again, one should know what exactly the internal working space is, to avoid conversion losses.
    I'm grateful for any suggestions,
    Bernhard

    I don't know that there is a background color space. As I said, if someone is working with a point and shoot digital camera vs. a Canon 1Ds Mark II, the range color the chip can capture is likely to be very different. In that case Aperture make work differently for each camera. I don't really know.
    I think your question touches on the ongoing debate (it's been years now on Photo Forums) as to whether or not you can really profile a digital camera. Some say yes, some say no. The ones who say yes are the ones selling profiling software and charts. Capture One allows for custom input profiles. The ones saying no are promoting software that doesn't allow for custom input profiles (ACR, Aperture, any camera manufacturer's software). I think the theory on the "no" side is that with a camera the range of color is limitless therefor there is no way to really profile it. This is as opposed to something like a scanner that has a limited amount of color it can see and needs to reproduce.
    I know that ACR has two types of general guides within it (one for daylight, one for tungsten) for each camera and then interpolates between the two. I say "guides" because I don't know if they are really termed to be profiles or if another name is more appropriate.

  • AdobeRGB(1998) working space/monitor

    A photographer had asked me, whether the offset
    print reproduction of his (originally) RAW photos
    would be improved if he used AdobeRGB(1998)as
    working space and an expensive monitor with
    AdobeRGB gamut, instead of generally sRGB.
    Does anybody know a printed book which demon-
    strates the loss in an sRGB workflow compared
    to an AdobeRGB workflow (not talking about
    ProPhoto).
    Common sense is here not a good recipy. Real
    world photos, for instance landscapes, are
    very different to academic test patterns.
    I'm not much interested in opinions (I'm knowing
    these). I'm more interested in printed examples.
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

    Gary (Ballard),
    thanks for your informations. Now let's think
    about the argument 'in a wide gamut color space
    we have larger color distances between 1 bit
    steps'.
    Correct, but didn't we use (I'm still doing it)
    8bpc images in the working space AdobeRGB(1998)
    for many many years ? Very satisfying, therefore
    it cannot be wrong to send these data directly
    (or with very tiny changes) directly to such a
    monitor.
    The problem how to show raw sRGB data on an aRGB
    monitor can be solved, for instance like this:
    1) Adjust the monitor visually by monitor controls
    very near to aRGB.
    2) Calibrate and profile for aRGB, but don't use
    for instance Eizo's ColorNavigator. Do it in
    the traditional way, which results in modified
    graphics card LUTs.
    3) Calibrate and profile again for sRGB, without
    changing the monitor controls .
    Choose the respective profile by GMB Display Profile,
    which defines the system monitor profile.
    Load the respective profile by GMB Calibration Loader,
    which affects the LUTs.
    Check LUT contents by GMB Calibration Tester.
    The aRGB mode should cause small deviations from
    the straight lines, the sRGB mode larger.
    The disadvantage is that one has to choose the mode
    deliberately.
    IMO a good argument for sticking to sRGB monitors ..
    Aandi,
    I had given a link to a doc which describes the
    whole workflow for camera calibration, which delivers
    as well a kind of gamut description.
    The calibration is valid for fixed camera settings
    and fixed lighting (here for the reproduction of
    paintings).
    The three sensor types R,G,B may have well defined
    spectral sensitivity functions, but results appear
    always after a multiplication by the light spectrum,
    which is not flat and for fluorescent light spiky.
    There are shown gamuts (planes L=constant) which
    differ, depending on the intermediate data format,
    which is in this test, one after the other, sRGB,
    aRGB and pRGB=Prophoto.
    These gamuts are not identical. The targets (two
    different were used) are NOT wide gamut targets
    (like some printed spot inks). Thus the indicated
    gamut is IMO to some extend extrapolated, an
    educated guess by the calibration system.
