Creating a DLL in Labview 8.6 and calling it from Visual Basic 6.0

Dear friends,
I need to create a DLL in Labview 8.6 and call it from Visual Basic 6.0. The system works as follows:
I made an application using Labview 8.6 + Vision Assistant 8.6 where I can obtain the x,y coordinates of a template in an certain image being captured by an USB camera. The template coordinates change every time it moves and Visual Basic 6.0 must read these x,y values in real time. I found some information in the link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3925, but it works for version 6.x of Labview and 8.6 version is different. Am I in the right path? If you have an updated tutorial like the one in the link above but for Labview 8.6 It would be very nice. Please help me.
Kind regards.

Hello Osvaldo,
I analysed the updated tutorial you sent me, but the thing is that it doen't show how to create the DLL in LV 8.6 but only show how to accessing the DLL from VB6. My problem is really HOW TO CREATE THE DLL IN LV8.6. In the link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3063 there is detailed information about how to do this in LV6.x, the problem is that I don't find the path Tools»Build Application or Shared Library (DLL) in LV8.6, I think the procedure in LV8.6 is a little bit different. Don´t you have an updated tutorial on how to build a dll in LV8.6?How could you help me?
Kind regards.

  • Creating a DLL in labview that interacts with a DLL in C++

I’m creating a DLL in LabView that will interact with a DLL created in C++. I don’t have control in the C++ DLL.
Both DLLs would pass a big amount of data as strings between them, for that it is necessary to allocate memory to store information in one dll and read it in the other and viceversa. The first time I will call the other DLL,  with this function :
long in texts ( unsigned char *name, void *id)
I would pass them a pointer pointer to an ASCII string  (name) and a pointer to an unspecific data structure (id). The id would then be passed to me by his DLL whenever they use one of the functions implemented on my dll.
What I don’t know is what to pass as a void*id? What are they expecting? A number? A cluster?
The other thing I don’t know is how to allocate memory in labview and write there information, such as a string, and then tell the other DLL to look for the information at that DLL, and viceversa. I hope I made my self clear, hope somebody can help me, and please indicate me if you need more information

  • How to create a dll in LabVIEW with a 2D array

I'm attempting to create a dll in LabVIEW with the following parameters from Test DLL.vi:
    Inputs:
    IN1 - Word
Buffer - 2D array of Unsigned Byte
    Output:
    OUT1 - Unsigned Byte
The prototype is constructed as follows in the Build Specifications of the Project:
    uint8_t TestDLL(int16_t IN1, TD1Hdl *Buffer)
The dll builds successfully but when I attempt to use it in another VI (using the Call Library Function block) the prototype appears but it does not look like what was defined from the Build Specifications.  Instead it looks like the following:
    void TestDll(void );
I attached some screen shots of all the settings as described above.

  • Calling a dll created with vision 7.0 from visual basic doesn't work

I created a dll using some vision 7.0 functions and Labview 7.0 environment. I call this dll from visual basic. The dll will work fine as long as I don't stop the visual basic program execution. As soon as I stop the program execution the dll will no longer work. I must reload the visual basic environment and the call to the dll will start working again. I created the exact same dll but I created it with vision 6.0 in Labview 6i environment. It works great and has no issues.

Thank you Jordan, I'm using Labview 7.1.
Anyway I've resolved the problem by adding the "lvanlys.dll" file (present in "..\Labview 7.1\resource\lvanlys.dll" path) as support file in the building process. Now the DLL containing the analysis functions works correctly.
    Natalino Roberto
Ok, you probably got lucky since the lvanlys.dll seems to implement that function directly. However most Advanced Analysis functions are just redirected by lvanlys.dll to the Intel Math Kerneal Library that gets installed with LabVIEW 7.1 and higher. The only way to get that properly installed with your LabVIEW executable or DLL is to create a LabVIEW installer in your Application Builder and make sure to select under "Installer Settings->Advanced" the "LabVIEW Run-Time Engine" and the "Analyze VIs Support". Then use that installer to install your DLL on another computer.

  • Unistalling labview 7.0 and 8.0 from windows vista

how do i uninstall both labview 7.0 and 8.0 from windows vista? i run through conflicts of labview with other programs so i want to remove them. there were errors encountered when i tried to uninstall them from the control panel such as this:

Can you stop the service manually? I would suggest stopping the service, setting it Manual or Disabled, rebooting, and then run the uninstaller again. Hopefully you won't have to resort to uninstalling the service manually.

When I try to create an external content type based on a view (AdventureWorks2012.vSalesPerson) - I can display the data in an external list.  When I attempt to edit it, I get an error:

    Hi Yuvish,
    1) They should be boolean inputs to your VI. But does it makes sense to provide a stop button input at the start of your VI? (THINK DATAFLOW!)
    2) Yes, the LV-RTE is needed...

  • Creating a DLL in LabVIEW containing a function using pointer to pointer

    Hi!
I´m facing the problem to create a DLL from LabVIEW containing the following C-function:
    functionF(structS** arrayA) ,
    where:
structS is a struct of various data-types (e.g. int)
arrayA is an C-array of structS
How can this be done? Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for your support

This cannot be done in LabVIEW. LV doesn't have the data type "Pointer" as C has.
The only workaround I can think of is to use an array of strings in LV and in the interface define the parameter as "by reference". In LV you have to typecast the wire with the string to a cluster withthe layout of structS.
As far as I know an array of strings is represented as an array of pointer to strings. This is because strings are variable in length and therefore LV uses this method storing the pointers to the strings in the array and not the elements as usual.
You have to read the document about memory and data types of LabVIEW. In elder versions this was in the LabVIEW Bookshelf but I haven't found it in short in the newer version.

  • Creating JNI DLL on WinXP using MinGW and GCC

Ohh man, I spent entire day fighting with "UnsatisfiedLinkError "while trying to cal my native method. After reading all the posts with similar problems, and checking for every little thing that was suggested I figured it out. So I'm reposting the solution here since no one else had suggested this.
The solution to my problem was that g++/gcc compiler needed an option "-Wl,--add-stdcall-alias". This was the killer. I had the "-shared", but it wouldn't link without the "-Wl,--add-stdcall-alias" option!!!
As a summary, while its fresh in my mind, here are the trouble shooting steps I used:
    1) Check package names and the generated .h file using javah. I checked and rechecked the names, even created simpler static void method to try and get it to link.
    2) Make sure to use the "jobject" parameter for dynamic methods and "jclass" for static methods in the signature as second argument.
    3) That method name starts with "Java_" and I stress the CAPITAL "J", can not be lowercase. Although if you are using javah, that should not be the problem, since javah can not ommit this kind of detail. The only thing that you need to check for is that if you change method from dynamic to static, and don't rerun the javah, or javah doesn't replace the previous file. So make sure you restart clean and that javah regenerated the file with "jclass" or "jobject" whichever is the case.
    4) Used the "java -verbose:jni" debug flag to see my native method loaded. In my case when it wasn't working I couldn't see the method load, but there were no error messages from "System.loadLibrary" or from the verbose output. Only the UnsatisfiedLinkError. Frustrating. After the fix it loads perfectly:
[Dynamic-linking native method org.jnetpcap.Pcap.openVoid ... JNI]5) I used "nm" found at "c:/MinGW/bin/nm.exe" to dump the symbol table, and I could see all my methods, with the appropriate named marked as text (T) flag. They were not being loaded when viewed using "java -verbose:jni" though.
    6) I put "extern "C" {}" around all my JNI C++ methods.
    7) Tried a gazilion other gcc options, posted in various messages, none worked.
    8) Finally came accross the "-Wl,--add-stdcall-alias" flag which fixed it.
Here is a portion of my Makefile for reference:
    $(LINK_TARGET) : $(OBJS)
         g++ \
              -shared \
              -Wl,--add-stdcall-alias \
              -o $@ $^ \
$(LIBDIRS) $(LIBS)LIBDIR and LIBS point to a single external library dependency.
My IDE environment is Eclipse 3.2, but I run everything from Makefiles as external programs.
I wish this was documented somewhere, would have saved me an entire day of troubleshooting.
    Cheers,
    mark...

Glad my post helped out at least a few people.
Believe it or not, I'm in the same boat now on Linux.
Atleast I know its the name mangling problem again. I
see a few symbols unmangled with nm, but most are,
and those are then one's JNI is complaining about
    with UnsatisfiedLinkError.
So now I'm going through various post related to
linux and trying to find the same type of flag. The
"alias" flag doesn't work with RH4 g++ version
4.0.2.You should not need a flag on Linux. A typical compile for me on my Linux box is:
    gcc -shared -o libjnitest.so -I/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/include -I/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/include/linux jnitest.c>
Window builds perfectly fine, but now I'm creating a
new platform target. Everything compiles and creates
the shared library, just can't get JNI to be happy.
    BTW, my project: http://jnetpcap.sf.net
Ah. You have .cpp extensions on your filenames. Are you using gcc or g++ to compile? If you don't use g++, you can get errors such as:
    undefined symbol: __gxx_personality_v0

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONVERT DATA SERVER EXAMPLE INTO DLL AND CALLING IT FROM VC++

    Hi;
I have a real time implementation that runs in my PXI machine. Then I have a front panel running on a different computer (host) that reads the outputs of the real-time machine and plots them. The output of the real-time machine is a 2d array. What I am trying to do is take this data and send it to my C++ application. To do that I am considering sending the data to a specific port on my host machine using the data server example (2d version of it). To this end, I am considering converting this server into a Labview dll and read its output in my C++ code.
I am wondering if this can be done?
If yes Could you please provide me a little code as to how to read the outputs of this Labview dll in c++?
Is there any tutorial as to how to create a Labview dll for Labview 2009?
    Thank you so much!

    Thanks ,
    Kranthi Kumar M.

    Hi Kranthi,
For your requirement you need only two nodes. Root Node and Result node. Use the same structure for both.
    To create Instance while search.
Create Query method with input type which has the required fields for selection criteria.
Fetch the data and create instance in the root node.
Pass the new instance key as exporting parameter form Query Method.
To Move data from ROOT to Result.
Create a action at root node.
Write a code to create new entries in Result node.
Then configure the Search UIBB and display result in List UIBB. Add button and assign the action MOVE_MAT_2_RESULT.
Create another List uibb to display data from Result node.
Connect the UIBBs using wire schema. SEARCH -> LIST(ROOT) ---> LIST(RESULT).
Give src node association for ROOT to RESULT Configuration.
