(CS4)(JS) Deleting Sections

I need a script to delete all the sections in an InDesign document (among other things)
This is what I have so far:
var x = myDocument.sections.length;
for (y = x;y>1;y--)
mySection = myDocument.sections[y];
mySection.remove();
This should go through all the sections and delete them all, but it doesn't. When I try to run it, I get an Object is Invalid error.
I'm probably missing something really obvious here, but don't know what.

Deleted Sections of Video Remain In .MOV File

Hi I am new to this forum and wonder if I may ask a question regarding QuickTime Pro v7.5.5.
I have recently taken a video clip using my Kodak DX7440 digital camera and have used QuickTime Pro v7.5.5 to delete a few seconds from the start and end of it.
This works fine within QuickTime itself, and the deleted clips are absent as desired, but when I go to Nero Vision (v7) to burn the video clip to a DVD, the deleted sections are still there, and I find this quite annoying, as I then have to perform the edit all over again before burning.
It seems the deleted sections are still within the .MOV file. Is there any way to get rid of them completely ?

Thanks for reply - but the Undo is greyed out, and doesn't affect it. I also tried Export but when playing the exported file I got a green colored still video picture displaying (but with sound OK). I suspect there is a bug of some kind causing my problem.

Restoring Deleted Sections of Video In Quicktime Pro 7

Does anyone know if you can restore the deleted sections of video in quicktime pro. I selected in & out points on a video then clicked save, instead of save as,(did not mean to do that) and it deleted most of my video, when i did not want to delete, just pull out the section where my in & out points were.
So I'm trying to restore the orig. video and that was the only copy, so I have no where else to go and retrieve it. If anyone would know if it is possible to restore the video you have cut but forgot to save orig. file. I would appreicate any help on this.. Thx....

IF I use system restore to a restore point before I cut video would that possibly get original video file back? Reply from quicktimekirk says it's gone for good,but not sure if he has ever tried the system restore to get back to a time before video was cut. Any help greatly appreicated,I only had 1 original file copy of video file I'm trying to restore. I did back it up on dvd when first recorded,so I still have that, but I'm trying to restore the original .mov video file. Thanks and I'll remember from now on to back up any file I'm working on. Question about deleted sections of multiple layers.

I was adding photos/layers to my file and when I added the most recent layer all of my other layers were affected. The other layers have giant deleted sections in them and only small portions of other layers show up. After I added this last photo, my project looks nothing like it did before and I can't get back to it.
Just wondering if there was anything I could do to fix it or be able to step backward?

Sounds like internal document corruption.
I take it you looked in the History panel and didn't get any joy by clicking an older state.
While it's not unheard of for software bugs to corrupt document data, I'd suggest checking your computer for failures. Look in the logs and maybe run a RAM diagnostic just to be sure you're not having hardware problems.

I can't delete section breaks in page,

Hi there, this is my first time using sections in Pages. I've tried your online tutorials but I don't seem to be able to combine two sections together, because I can't work out how to delete the section breaks without deleting the document.
The dotted blue line, which I imagine I'm supposed to be fn+delete-ing deletes the substance of the page also. I'm not sure if it makes much difference but the pages I'm working on are only using pictures.
I need to get the sections right for my TOC.
I really appreciate your help. I'm loving my mac, but this bits giving me a headache!

I suspect you have a lot of pictures mixed in with paragraph returns.
When you have a combination of images with the default word wrap on, not quite filling up the width of the page they can interact in unpredictable ways. This can make them pop and disappear when the page they are on disappears from under them.
Select the images and:
+Inspector > Wrap > Object Placement > Floating+
also:
+Inspector > Wrap > uncheck Object Causes Wrap+
Since there are many ways your returns, inline graphics, wrap and section breaks can interact, if you still have problems email me the file by clicking on my blue name and I'll fix it.

How can I easily highlight, test, and delete sections of my timeline?

I am new to both Logic Pro and to Mac having been editing audio and video on a PC using Sony Sound Forge and Vegas Pro. Every Sunday I record the message at my church, burn a CD and bring it home to edit it before creating CDs and then putting the message on the Internet. I would like to use my Mac and either Logic Pro or Soundtrack Pro (I have both) to do my edits.
My basic workflow after ripping the tracks from the original CD is to remove a lot of pauses, repeated words, and sometimes rearranging the words to make the finished product more understandable. I tell the pastor that I improve on his message!
The way I remove silence, redundant words, etc. in Sound Forge is to drag my cursor down the waveform view on the timeline to highlight the area that I think I need to delete. Usually I can just hit the delete key and move on to the next edit since when I delete the highlighted area of the timeline it does a ripple edit for me. However, sometimes I need to hear what the resulting sound will be prior to actually hitting the delete key. With Sound Forge I can type Ctrl-K and it will play a few seconds before the in point and then a few seconds beginning at the out point. If I need to make an adjustment I can do that and click Ctrl-K again until it sounds right. Then I can delete the highlight area.
Is that kind of workflow available in Logic Pro or even Soundtrack Pro? There are, of course, other things that I need to do but I feel that the effects and tools that I need are built in to the Mac software. I use SoundSoap Pro and Ozone 3 for much of what I do and will figure out how best to utilize them with my Mac.

Thank you for your reply, Sampleconstruct. While I have not yet tried your approach to my situation it looks like a lot of keystrokes and commands are going to be involved. Since it takes me over an hour to edit a 30 minute sermon I need as fast a process as possible. Currently, as I play through the timeline and find a section that needs deleting I merely highlight the section and hit the delete key. If I need to listen to a portion of the timeline before and after the highlighted section to see if my selection and/or timing is correct, I hit Ctrl-K which plays the before and after audio. If that sounds OK, I then hit the delete key. If I need to change the highlighted selection I can click and drag either or both ends and re-listen to the results using Ctrl-K. I sometimes even restructure sentences to make them more understandable or add an 's' to words to make them plural, etc.
I often use a similar editing approach to songs that the director wants to shorten. I usually do this by eliminating 1st endings or taking out other sections. In order for the timing to be right I have to listen to the proposed edit prior to deleting the selection so that I can tweak it if necessary.
I really want to eliminate PCs and Windows and work entirely in the Mac arena. I am even taking a college course on FCP in order to do all my video editing on the Mac.

Deleting sections of a regions

In Garageband 09, one could delete a section by clicking on the section, until the mouse pointer turned into a cross hair symbol, the drag the mouse point over the region to mark the part to be deleted. That seems no longer possible, because now when I do that, a dialog box pops up asking me whether I would Flex Time to be turned on.
That is, frankly speaking, very annoying.
Any solutions / comments??

Pen tool-deleting section from shape

hey i'm wondering if anyone can help me out - i'm using the pen tool in illustrator to draw shapes. I want to pen sections within the shape that i can delete and make hollow. I can't seem to work out how to do this...any advice appreciated.

If you create a path on top of and inside another path, you may select both, and Object>Compound Path>Make, or Pathfinder>Minus Front (Subtract from Shape Area in older versions where you need to press Alt/Option).

Reinstalling CS4 after deleting the files without using the uninstaller

Hi I didn't know that I have to use the uninstaller to uninstall my adobe CS4 products on my mac. My photoshop was giving me problems and I decided to reinstall it. However, I uninstalled it the normal mac way i.e. simply deleting it. Now I'm having trouble reinstalling as the installer always fails. Any way to resolve this?

That hasn't been "the normal Mac way" for the last decade... Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall.

hello, i made a video with sound and overlapping voiceover i want to know how do i delete a section of the video and the voice over without having to resynch everything again?

In Final Cut Pro X, this is easy. You drag to select all these clips. Then use the Blade Tool.
However, in iMovie, it is not as straightforward. You can edit the camcorder clip and its audio, but any music tracks, voiceover tracks, etc. will not be edited with it.
A workaround is to use the SHARE menu to SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME using Apple Intermediate Codec to retain as much quality as possible. Then import this new movie into an Event. New all the audio is married to the video and you can edit everything together.

How do you delete section breaks without deleting content?

I am working on my dissertation and am trying to format the document to the specifications, which includes different margins for different pages. I watched the tutorial on using section breaks and it looked like it work work, but now my document is full of blank pages from the section breaks, the margins are still changing the entire document not just the section I need changed and the formating is being completely screwed up by the section breaks. When I try to delete them I get a message stating that it will also delete the content of the section, which would mean it would delete any work I have done. How do I get rid of the section breaks? how do I set margins on some pages at a certain size and on others a different size? Or should I just go back to using Word, which is beginning to look like the better option.

I' would be surprised if you were able to run Pages under Mac OS X (10.0.x)
(2) users which took time to look at the Pages User Guide are aware of the feature allowing them to display so called « hidden » characters.
Triggering it, you would see the section breaks like the one selected in the next screenshot :
Delete it and you will not loose text contents.

So I highlight a section of my .mov file in QT pro 7 with the arrows and delete, but it deletes a large chunk after the right arrow. How do I delete JUST the section that I highlighted?

What kind of files are you editing? This could also be a GOP issue. QT normally marks/edits/processes GOP (Group of Picture) content on the nearest I-frame. If this is the problem, then depending on your goals and/or required workflow, you have two options:
1) The first option would be to convert the GOP content to an all intra-frame or more modern compression format in which can mark/edit/process any frame individually, or
2) Use a GOP edit compatible application for marking/editing/processing the GOP content. Normally, I would recommend trying MPEG Streamclip (free).

Cutting and deleting section of photo...

I'm new to this method of support, and relatively new to Mac's, but I love mine.
I'm creating a photo album and am using pages to put multiple photos on each page.
Can I somehow cut and delete a section of a photo so that the photo or text behind
it can be seen at that spot. For instance, can I cut off the corner off of a photo,
or can I cut out the part of the photo that I want, in an irregular shape?

You can mask an image with a shape. Unfortunately, it's a "one-off" thing. But you could use multiples of the same image with different parts masked.

Why does Pages delete sections of a document?

While writing a document, Pages will suddenly delete a section of the document. Anyone else experience this?

Pages doesn't delete anything. It is probably something you are doing that triggers this behaviour. Which device do you use Pages on? In this forum we mainly try to help those having computers. There is a forum for those using Pages on iPads too.

Need to create template to delete sections (in a batch of images, if possible)

I was given a batch of photos (all the same size) that need notches punched into each side. The result are notches with deleted space on both sides.
Since there is a stack of them to do--and the notches need to be precise--I was trying to figure out; 1) How should the template look? Specifically, should the area to be punched out be black or white? What color should the area to remain be, etc.? 2) Once the template is set up what is the process to punch out the area to be deleted? 3) Is there a way to automate the process with a batch command?
Would appreciate knowing the steps required or if you know of a tutorial (free) on the procedure.

White is opaque and black is transparent. Once you made your selection you can save the selection to a new document. The new document will then contain the alpha mask and a layer that matches it. An action could then load the new document and load the selection then close the new doument.
Anyway I am sure you will find multiple ways to do this.
