Definition of insanity
Lets start by saying I've been a Fios customer for at least 9 years. I know our bill is typically over $350/mo. One would think we would be considered a high value customer. We decided to upgrade to the Quantum package when we moved to a new home 3 months ago. We tried to rent/purchase a movie 3 days ago. Had an error code vod 207. Called and cs said we have outage in the area and it would be up and running the next day. Next day same issue. Promised it would be fixed.
Behold the same issue.
Started the conversation at 6:30 PM tonight. After resetting more times than I can count, 4 different people and 3 1/2 hours later I was told that it was because we exceeded our credit limit. What credit limit? Then I was told it would be resolved by next week! Thanks Verizon for ruining my family night and wasting my time. I will be cancelling all services - phone, internet and tv and taking my $4500/yr elsewhere. CS didnt even offer a discount or make good for the cumulative 8 hrs of my time over the past 3 days on the phone trying to fix an issue they caused. Very disappointed.

iTunes truly epitmizes the Definition of Insanity. I can't even download free apps. iTunes says they are having technical difficulties. What an understatement. iTunes makes everyone go crazy by saying to try again later. When we try again, same result.
Ha!
I've been saying that iTunes is a "@#8*!^8 crazy *#!" ever since I reinstalled it, LOL!
I had that thing, just about *duct-taped and stuffed between the attic rafters* for the past 3 years,
and never missed it.
Then...well...I told my husband, that I must've incurred an Aneurysm during sleep...because for some reason, the %*@$! has now reappeared, and is just as OCD and Hyper, as it was when I had it
*locked up*!
But my husband keeps swearing that I re-downloaded it, because I missed hearing my favorite
pod-shows.
Anyhoo...since, I've re-inflated it, I've only used it for 1/2 an evening, before I gave a yell, and pulled the plug on it, yet again!
A.n.y.t.i.m.e I tried to do ANYTHING, that crazy &#tc+ was right there...and I swear that I could hear a hyper never-pausing-for-breath 'voice', which seemed to shrill:
"Can I do it, huh, huh? Can I open, huh? huh? I wanna do it, I wanna I wanna!!
"Prrlleaaase! I just wanna open it!! You know I can! So can I, huh huh!!"
So it's *locked-up under my porch crawl space* until....well....until... (0;
I actually just came on here to say that, during the 3 or so hours that I attempted to reason with that Demento, I was never able to access the iTunes Store, either.
"I can't access the iTunes Store.
It must be busy, so I'll try again later."
And while it was trying to convince of that, I managed to get in and out of the iTunes Store, about 3 separate times...and had managed to listen and download about 5 or so pods...but it just kept repeating that same line.
Like its dose of Lithium had worn off, and now it was just about ready to show me its
*Alvin the Chipmunk Alter-Persona*...
But it never got the chance.
I haven't heard a peep out if since, LOL!
I figure there's enough to keep me occupied on here...so if doesn't behave itself soon....
Yeah...you KNOW what I'm talkin' bout, LOL!
Well, I gots to go now, but you have yourself, a fabulous weekend!

My Sites error - 403 and "We're almost ready!" plaguing web application
On an in-house managed farm, a My Site web application has been created per the instructions provided from
Microsoft. The web application uses the managed path "personal" at the root of
http://mysites. The initial "We're almost ready!" screen when accessing a social feature like
Newsfeed was anticipated. However, in attempting to update the My Site content (i.e. profile information, newsfeed settings), the user is presented with a 403 Forbidden page - "The website declined to show this page".
In ULS, this is made abundantly clear as well in the following logs:

Initial troubleshooting sources have included:
Bernando Nguyen's
post
Praveen's TechNet
blog
SharePoint Brian's suggestion to re-run the Product & Config wizard here
Troubleshooting efforts so far in addition to the sources quoted above:
Checking account permissions (obvious, with an "access denied" message) for UPA, Metadata and Workflow service accounts
Creating a special permission policy for the web application to allow "Everyone" to create subsites
Checking SQL rights for SA's and their respective DB's
Started IIS application pool "SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool" (it was stopped initially)
ANY help in further troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated. I have already re-created the web application multiple times with the same results each time. Thank you.
EricI re-created the web application again. What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? Well, in this case I actually did get a different result. At least this time there
wasn't a 403 error, but a 404! Success!
In any case, I used a load balancer for this farm and re-mapped the bindings in IIS to point to that IP. Lo and behold, we have lift off! Everything is working, even the social features. All it took was me talking to myself in a forum and
doing repetitive tasks expecting different results... oh, hang on, there's a nice gentleman in a white coat here to take me some place nice. Thank you! -
Logic Pro 9 version 9.1.8 Crashes immediately when any project is opened
I used Logic all morning today. I closed my project, put my machine to sleep, and walked away from it for a while. When I returned, Logic was trying to open in 32 bit mode for an unknown reason, and would crash every time I opened a project (I have tried numerous different projects, including new empty ones). I switched it back to 64bit using finder, but the problem persists; the application crashes the second I open any project. Out of frustration I have mindlessly tried to open it over and over again (I know the definition of insanity, thanks), and without making any changes it just recently started scanning 17 of my 30+ plug-ins every time it starts. I know thats probably irrelevant, but every detail helps, right? I also have an M-Audio Fastrack Pro interface and 49 key Novation Impulse connected to my computer via USB.
Below is my crash log, I will appreciate any and all advice, I'm working with a deadline and need this problem resolved.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Matt

new iPad air. set it as new device. asked in itunes to restore from previous older iPad backup. it's not restored\i'm asked to do it agagin and again, in loop
tried defining the iPad as new - the same problem. started it in recovery mode - the sameThe definition of insanity.....
Does it ask for the old device by name? How do you know it isn't restored? Have you completed setup and checked on the device?
Are you using the same iTunes account and Apple ID?
On your iTunes account, Open preferences, go to devices tab
Look in the box for a backup of your old device. Is there a backup?
If there is no backup, you have nothing to restore. -
Ipod not recognized in windows vista nor in itunes
İ need help. İ have tried the 5 r's. Since neither my computer nor itunes will recognize my ipod*, İ can not complete the restore. İ have downloaded the update from vista, still to no avail. İ don't know what else to do. since one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results, after hours of going through all the steps again and agian, this **** ipod is driving me insane.
* İ have had two brief periods when itunes did recognize my ipod unexpectedly. on those two occasions, it began the sync, but got stuck on a couple of music files and then would not complete the sync, leaving only two songs on my ipod to listen to. İ tried deleting those files it seemed to get stuck on, but then, it(itunes nor my computer) has never recognized my ipod since.I have a suggestion on that, Cindy.
I've had a couple of friends that own a Gateway. And they've experienced the same problem, hence the fact(I Think) because the drivers for the USB that are installed with Vista are outdated,
but I don't think thats the case since the Gateway has all of its devices (USB ports) running correctly.
My next thought would be to do what I did:
A few months back I realized I cannot have my Ipod and any External HDD Connected simultaniously, since it seems that there are confilcts if I connected them together.
In other words, try temporarly copying your Music folder into your PC( if you have a good amount of space, then try going to Itunes>Edit>Preferences>Advanced
NOTE: if you have space, you can directly copy you music into the folder that Itunes is told to retrieve the songs from.
THere you'll see that itunes has a preset or default Itunes Music Folder location, Set it to the folder that you copied(if you were able to) which contains the music.
NOTE: if you have space, you can directly copy you music into the folder that Itunes is told to retrieve the songs from.
Hope this Helps!!

About two weeks ago, my iPad Air was spontaneously signed out of Messages and FaceTime when I was using it to browse the web while on the bus, connected via Personal Hotspot on my iPhone. Since then, I haven’t been able to sign in to either Messages or FaceTime. I can still sign in to my iCloud account as normal for other things like contact and bookmark syncing. It’s just Messages and FaceTime that refuse to activate.
The error messages I receive vary between the following:
“An error occurred during activation. Try again."
“Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
“Verification failed - The connection to iCloud timed out."
“Unable to contact the iMessage server. Try again."
This iPad Air is a replacement from Apple (quite possibly a refurbished one) that I received in November 2014, after the previous model developed a malfunctioning touchscreen in one corner. It’s worth mentioning that my iPhone and Mac are completely unaffected by any issues, and can also be signed in and out of Messages and FaceTime without a hitch.
I’ve tried an awful lot of things in an attempt to get Messages and FaceTime to sign in successfully on the iPad Air, none of which have worked, and many of which I have tried multiple times.[1]
Things I have tried in an attempt to activate Messages and FaceTime
connecting to different wifi in multiple locations (work and home) and Personal Hotspot from iPhone
signing into Messages and FaceTime with different Apple IDs (these won’t activate Messages and FaceTime either)
wiping iPad with normal restore
wiping iPad with DFU restore
resetting network settings (both after fresh install and after backup restore)
restoring from an October 2014 backup (still have to sign into Messages and FaceTime, still don’t work)
turning off the automatic timezone setting and setting the date and time manually, even though it was correct anyway
deselecting phone number and @me.com so purely using @icloud.com to sign in
running the activation process through VPN connections via London and New York
changing DNS on wifi to 8.8.8.8
updating to iOS 8.2 beta 4
I would love to hear from anybody who can provide the solution as to why Messages and FaceTime just won’t activate. Apple won't provide free support on this as the iPad is now out of warranty.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” - not Albert Einstein, but a good quote all the same ↩Same problem in 8.1.3

Who can I complain to about a new order being canc...
Please can someone help me before I go totally insane!! On 14th March I placed an order online with BT for Phone & Broadband with free BT Sport and paying the line rental in advance with it due to go live on 30th March.
Transfer date came and went with no sign of any transfer being carried out - details online said they were working on the problem. Several days later had a message to say that they needed to talk to me with regard to my order, then received an email saying that BT were sorry I had cancelled by order!! Long and short of it after days of talking to people in India trying to sort out my order and being told lie after lie (such as they couldn't transfer phone line from Sky without me getting a cease date from Sky) I was told everything was in hand and someone from Openreach would ring me on Monday 13th April to comfirm they had sorted out the problem (basically unplugging a my line from one socket and plugging it into another). On the Monday I received a garbled message from someone in India saying that they needed to talk to me about my order and would ring again Wednesday. On the Wednesday morning I got another garbled message saying that as they had tried repeatedly to speak to me on the phone and hadn't been able to they had now cancelled my order!!! i then phoned and was told my order had got stuck in the system and they needed me to place my order again and this would sort everything out.
I then find out that the money I paid when I placed my order for my line rental saver in advance plus Hub/Dongle etc had been refunded as I had cancelled my order. No I didn't you did!! I still want my line rental saver, Hub etc, etc.
I did this but since then I have been getting threatening emails requesting I send back my Hub and Dongle as I had cancelled my order - no I need it, and I didn't cancel my order you did!!! Then today I got a final bill (as I was leaving) for £172.29 which was for line rental saver (£169.90) from 30th March and BT Sport (£25.81) 14 March - 10 May (money due to be taken out of my account on or before 25th April). How can I be charged for a service that I haven't even been connected to!
Surely they can see what is happening on the account see that there was a problem there end and that I didn't want my account cancelled etc - after all the notes that the call centre people in India supposedly made on my account!!!
I tried to speak to BT this evening but after 25 minutes of listening to stupid music I gave up. My phone line and broadband are supposed to transfer over to BT on 29th April but I am not holding my breath on this!!
Please can someone help me with who is the best person to talk to before I go totally mad because if I have to talk to anyone else in India who uses the standard customer service script and tells me that they understand my frustration one more time I will definitely go insane!!!!
Thanks in advance
Liz

Cannot open the file "**.indd". Undefined error.
I've started getting this error in CS3 (Windows XP SP2) since installing CS4 and CS5. It only happens on files I'm opening from my NAS which I've never had a single problem with before. I get this error in CS3 (which is still my default for opening files) even on files which I have never even opened in a later version of Indesign, let alone saved from it. CS5 files open in CS5, as do CS3 files, but CS3 doesn't work anymore.
I've tried deleting preferences, hasn't worked. If I copy the file to my local drive it opens fine, but a funny thing happening though is that the lock file appears very breifly in the folder then goes away again. One thing I did which was a bit unusual is I installed CS5 first then CS4.
I realise this is very confusing, I'm just posting it in the hopes that someone else has had a similar experience?!That's good advice, I get the logic of it, but I've had no problem uninstalling. When I uninstall CS4 it works fine, just like it used to, so there's nothing for an uninstall script to fix! It's just that as soon as I install CS4 I can't open CS3 files off the NAS in CS3. So it's the install that is the problem, not the uninstall.
Do you have a install cleanup script?
In regard to what you said about Windows getting confused because I installed CS5 first; on another machine I tried just installing CS4, same problem.
I tried installing just CS5 and that works fine, it's just CS4 that stops me opening CS3 files in CS3, and it's probably some stupid problem unique to my combination of NAS and OS and versions....
I realise that I could try uninstalling everything, running cleanup scripts and installing again, but I would be replicating exactly what I've already tried, and as Einstein said trying the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. -
Have CS5, but it wont open .CR2 images from my camera(D650). I tried upgrading the camera raw plugin to 7.1 which will
work with my camera. The install tells me that I need a new version of Adobe Application Manager. I download a new version of AAM.
It installs, but when I run it, it tells me that the current version is corrupted and I need to download a new version of AAM. I done this
several times with the same result. (Wait...thats the definition of insanity!) Anyway...any help on this problem????
JimNot sure about your AAM update issue, but as far as Camera Raw goes, ACR 7.x is only for PS-CS6 and will never run in CS5, so either you need to upgrade your PS to CS6 or use current version of the free DNG Converter to convert your new camera CR2 files to DNGs which can be recognized by older ACR plug-ins.
You can find the DNG Converter 7.3 on http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Another alternative is to buy the-much-cheaper-than-photoshop Lightroom 4 and use LR 4.3 to do the camera-raw adjustments to your files and then use LR’s Edit in Photoshop (with LR adjustments) to put finishing touches on your photos. -
Time Machine restore and now can't open application
Sorry if this is long but I'm not sure how much is relevant to the current problem. It all started when I received an email with a small excel file. The email would not finish downloading and the color wheel of death was spinning on mail and Safari. Eventually Safari came back to life but mail never did. I could not force quit mail so holding down the power button was the next step. Upon re-booting the screens were blue alternating between three shades. Trying over and over gave the same results. Booted into a different hard drive, opened Windows XP on Boot Camp and brought the email in with no problem. Checked it with McAffee and found no problems.
Went back to OX on a hard drive that was fine, used Disk Utilities and attempted to repair disk with no luck. Tried to re-install both 10.5 & 10.6 and neither would install. Erased the hard drive and tried again with no luck. Got a replacement hard drive 1T from Seagate, put in 10.5 DVD and in utilities chose restore from time machine. Went to a restore point a couple of hours before the problem started just to be safe. When restore was complete, about a hour for 350G, I rebooted as directed. The gray screen with the apple logo appeared then darkened and a message appeared directing to shut down using the power button. Several tries produced the same results. I then went to a different hard drive and opened applications for the problem hard drive. It appears the restore brought back everything but almost all application icons are grayed out with a slash across them, not third party stuff either but iTunes, Safari, System Preferences, Mail etc. When clicking on them I get the pop up "You can't open the application ____ because it is not supported on this type of Mac"
Many of the steps described have been tried over and over again with hopes of a different result (Yes, I know that is the definition of insanity). I have even repeatedly switched the hard drives to different bays wondering if it could be a hardware problem. So far I have over 20 hours invested in this problem so any help would be greatly appreciated.PCRinAZ wrote:

Is that the one in several languages? If so, that's a *kernel panic.* They're usually hardware, but not always. Disconnect everything, except keyboard and mouse. Reconnect one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.
If that's no help, disconnect everything again and run the Apple Hardware Test, from the separate disc that came with your Mac. Instructions should be printed on it (in very tiny type).
If it passes that, you might want to download and run the Rember app, a free and much more extensive memory test: http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/

Several tries produced the same results. I then went to a different hard drive and opened applications for the problem hard drive.
You lost me there. What is the "different hard drive"? A clone? Of the same Mac?
Which is the "problem hard drive," the replaced internal?
It appears the restore brought back everything but almost all application icons are grayed out with a slash across them, not third party stuff either but iTunes, Safari, System Preferences, Mail etc. When clicking on them I get the pop up "You can't open the application ____ because it is not supported on this type of Mac"
This almost sounds like you got PPC stuff restored onto an Intel, or vice-versa. -
Put up with Infinity for over a year. About to rag...
Title says it all. I had no real problems with BT broadband until I upgraded to Infinity. Then the fun began. Currently scraping along at 4Mb download speed. Cannot physically bring myself to phone BT AGAIN, and go through the same ludicrious set of steps AGAIN. I must have gone through this process a dozen times over the last few months.
1. Hit problems. Either speed flatlines or hub's BB connection constantly drops.
2. Reboot hub / router. No effect.
3. Pluck up some courage. Steel myself for the coming saga. Pick up the phone, and call BT.
4. Speak to some extremely pleasant, Indian chap / lady, who insist on walking me through every baby step every time. No I'm not using a wireless connection. Yes I've tried rebooting. What's that you say, you CAN see a fault somewhere not inside my house? I'M SHOCKED.
5. Listen to the profuse, over-the-top apologies from the hard pressed CSR peeps out in India, feeling sorry for both myself and them. Engineers will be roused! Amends will be made!
6. Receive immediate follow up call from manager asking my opinion on the person I've just spoken to.
7. If an engineer has been booked to come out to my house, they will not turn up 2 times out of 3, and I'll receive a phone call telling me they're not coming in advance perhaps 20% of those times, meaning a wasted morning / afternoon waiting in.
8. Connection is fixed usually within 24-48 hours after phone call. Assume something, somewhere has been rebooted.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. What can I do different? What it looks like to me is some piece of infrastructure between me and the internet is periodically barfing, and needs rebooting. But no one seems to notice unless I call. And let me tell you, I'm really, really sick of calling. Hence this slightly incoherent plea for help.
I despair.Thanks, that's an interesting suggestion.
I'm not sure it entirely fits the pattern I'm seeing (I think it tends to be fine for longer periods than that, then dies a month or so later), but I think I'll monitor the speed much more closely than usual over the next few days. I tend to forget to check the speed once everything seems back to normal, and it usually takes frequent disconnects before I really notice how bad things have gotten again. Interestingly, on this call the guy I spoke to made a point of saying I should not disconnect or turn off my equipment, presumably meaning they will indeed reset DLM; they may well have done this in the past, but I hadn't understood the implications.
On a side note, does anyone know of a speedtest style app which could check and log speed periodically over a period of time, rather than remembering to do it manually? -
DM 6-y address Book Sync leads to error code 0x80040fb3
DM 6-y address Book Sync leads to error code 0x80040fb3. I have done the following:
rebooted 6000+ tijmes (or mabe a bit less than that)
performed a security wipe on my device
reinstalled DM 6 software several times
Had "I-Yogi" technicians try to fix
Used "cellrepair service"
Bottom line--I'm not a computer guy. I just want my BB9550 Storm to be able to sync with outlook. Calendar, Memo and Tasks sync with no problem. Address books always stops after 121 records are synced and then I get the error code.
Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results. I'm now insane and don't know what to do.That is certainly one option.
If you want to continue, here is a KB for activating advanced logging to see if that provides you with anything useful:
KB01451How to turn on advanced synchronization logging if a wired synchronization fails
I've also heard on these forums that if you export your contact list from Outlook (to CSV, ASCII or something else), the order they come out in is the same order that the synchronization works in...which might better help you identify the offending record (which you could then delete and re-create).
Good luck!

Iphoto 08 7.1.1 VS IPHOTO 6 6.0.6 dialog and date stamping photos
Hello again,
I asked how to date stamp and describe each job photo I take on my 08 version of Iphoto since it doesn't have the "YEARBOOK" selection in the BOOK formats. well I just tried something for the he## of it and it worked real well. Don't use BOOKS at all. Put the photos in ALBLUMS, click "select all" in EDIT click "batch change" in PHOTOS, set Title to Date and TIME then when the time and date show under each picture type next to them what you want to describe. Cilck on PRINT and a drop down menue will appear, chose "Proof sheet" and hit print again and off you go. NOTE if the date and time do not appear when you choose "Date and Time go to VIEW and make sure "Titles" is checked. It works for me -Now back to all my other problems --How come MIGRATE ASSISTANT doesn't????Sorry Larry,
It was late and I was blind so I threw out the question -----The problem is I used the Migration Assistant when I got a new HD installed in my G4 and nothing happened other than the Fire Wire logo just kept running on my screen. I tied my G4 to my Imac with a Fire Wire--followed screen prompt on my G4 to restart my Imac while holding down the "T" key (on the IMAC). I did that and the Fire Wire logo appeared and began running in the faded mode on my IMAC screen. (Normally it should be a bright gray and yellow) I let it run but nothing ever happened and no info showed up on my G4. I tried it several times until the definition of Insanity popped into my head. I have a Rocstor back up HD for storage, tried leaving connected and disconnecting it to no avail. I assume that the Fire Wire logo running in the "ghost" mode is telling me something unfortunately I am just to clueless to know what it is. I am sure that I changed cables (reasonably) as that would be a natural, but nothing changed. I have gone the other way, G4 to IMAC using the same procedures with no problem.
Thanks, Mel -
IMessage slider always goes to off
I have iPhone 4, iOs 5.1.1 and when I try to switch on iMessgae, it goes back to OFF immediately. I have all restrictions disabled.
And I also have another iPhone 4, iOs 5.1.1 which has iMessage enabled with same id.
ThanksResetting it once is sufficient. I'll never understand why people try to do something more than once with something like this.
