Designer support for Subquery against SAP BW Bex Query

BusinessObjects designer has an option in the paramaters window to turn on "Allow Sub-Queries" in a universe that has been created using a olap source.  SAP BW BEX Query to be specific.  Once turned on, you can build a query and the subquery button and functionality is actually enabled and allows you to build it.  When running the query I get an error message "A filter contains a wrong value. You cannot run this query".
Now, I am pretty sure this functionality is not supported on a BW or OLAP source but, I can not find anything definitive from SAP stating that it is not supoorted.  So I want to make sure that this is not one of those situations where everyone just says "It's not supported" but really just doesn't know.  Does anyone have the official word or link to an SAP statement that this functionality is officially not supported.

What I would say is, it won't support. The reason could be, as its not support any structure view in universe designer, that means we cannot create any derived tables where we could use sql query.
I believe the same applies  here too. Even if you look at LOV defintions in universe, it won't show any query.
So the same applies to reports.
Hope this helps.

  • Connecting Crystal Reports to SAP BW BEx query

    Post Author: mfrank
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
We have used Crystal Enterprise 8.5 to connect to an SAP BW BEx query in the past, however we are having some difficulties.  Rather than trying to upgrade our old CE system, I've been told that we should be able to connect Crystal Reports (2008?) directly to the BW BEx query.  I've been trying to accomplish this, but can't seem to find any drivers that will allow the connectivity.  When I try to set up a connection using OLAP, the only two options listed are Hyperion and Microsoft OLAP.  I have an old version of Brio Query (now Hyperion, now Oracle) that does show up with a driver for BW, but this doesn't show up in my Crystal options.
Can someone give me some advice as to how to connect Crystal Reports to SAP BW?  I realize there are licensing issues with running live data without using Crystal Enterprise (or later BO products), but I'm just looking to print a report to a PDF.
    Thanks

  • Designer support for Oracle 9i database features

How does Designer support the creation of Materialized Views, Bitmap Join indexes and Index Organized tables ? Which version of Designer does this ?
    Dwaraka

I do not fully understand your question, but I'll give a start answer.
Bitmapped indexes can be defined by setting the index type to bitmap. SImply create an index and set the indextype to bitmap.
Index Organized Tables can be created by creating a relational table and set the index-organized option under storage in the property palette to Yes. Designer has a special folder for the materialized view.
IOT's and bitmapped indexes where already supported in Designer 6.0. Materialized views are supported in Designer 6i. I know for sure in designer 6i release 4.2 (designer 9i).
I hope this answers your questions.

  • Using hierarchies from SAP BW BEx Query in BO Universe

    Hello,
I'm trying to use a hierarchy (e.g. a simple customer class hierarchy) which is a part of a BEx Query in a BO Universe. But until now I have not found a way to get a hierarchy from a BEx Query working in a BO Unvierse.
    1. Is it generally possible to use hierarchies in BEx Queries with a BO universe? (at the moment I can see all characteristics and keyfigures from the query... but I can't see the hierarchy levels for the characteristic)
    2. If 1) is possible: I want to use a hierachy variable to select a hierarchy depnding on the user who is using a report... that's not a problem in BEx. But: Is it possible to use this query/scenario with a BO universe? Does the BO universe update itself automatically if the hierarchy has changed in a BEx query?
I've tried it with SAP BW 3.5 and SAP BI 7.0. BO Release is XI 3.0. Unfortunatelly without result.
    Regards,
    Thorsten

    Hi Thorsten,
    1) Hierarchies are mapped in the same way as custom-made universe hierarchies. When a hierarchy is defined on a characteristic in the BW Query, Designer creates one hierarchical structure in the universe, with a subclass for each level in the hierarchy. The structure depends on the current BW Query definition.
    2) If the number of levels in a hierarchy changes in the BW query, you must update the universe. In the universe connection select *Use Single Sign On when refreshing
reports at view time* to allow the user to benefit from SAP SSO.
    Hope this helps

  • BW - Alternative for # (hash/pound)sign in bex query output to Microstrategy

    Hello team,
We have a requirement to display BEx report output to the reporting tool Microstrategy. They are accessing the BEx query as the source. The issue we are facing is :- when there is no value for a characteristic, it displays a # sign in the report. This is the normal behavior of SAP BW. But Microstrategy is not able to access this pound/hash symbol and they want us to display a blank space instead of # sign. I was wondering whether there is any alternative for displaying blank space instead of hash/pound sign???

    Hi Jerry,
Yeah, I think that's the only way to maintain it..
    OR
How do you load data to your MASTERDATA object? You can just include "SPACE" value in the EXCEL file (if your datasource is a FLATFILE) or make a "SPACE" value in the transformation level..

  • No data in Crystal report created on SAP BW BEx Query

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to create a Crystal report on top of a BW query. I am able to login to the BW system and open the BEx query and the objects are coming into the crystal report.
But when I drag and drop some objects into the details area and try to preview sample - it does not show any data (it shows accessing database but doesnt bring any data)
I copied the generated SQL query in to the section in the BW system in transaction code 'MDXTEST' and it runs correctly and shows me the result below there.
Just to try - I unchecked 'Use MDX..' check box by following the path SAP->Settings to check if that could bring back data ... and YES that worked which means data is not coming from the BW query with MDX connection but when MDX seems to be fine and retrieve result when I run the sql statement in tcode MDXTEST.
Also when I do preview samples - I can see in SM50 in BW system that it is trying to run the report just that I am not able to see any data in my crystal report.
Any help in this regards would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sunny

    Hello
The order of display of attributes in Webi and Crystal report would be different.
Collapse the infoobject and skim through the attributes, you should be able to find them.

  • How to restrict the Null Values for Key Figules in the Bex Query

    Hi Friends,
I want to restrict the Null values of a perticular key figure in the Bex Query Output.
I will explain in details. i have 3 key figures in my query.. let us assume.. key1 key2key3
    key1           key2                key3
    4                4                   100.00
    5                0                   200.00
    1                0                    19.00
    0                1                    10.00
i don't want to see the the records for which key 2 is 0.
we have a setting in the Bex Query for restricting the Zero values in the query properties. If we enable that setting it will show
    4               4          100.00
but i want the report to display..
    4               4           100.00
    0               1           10.00
can any body guide me. <b>i want to display the values if key2 <> 0.</b>

  • SAP BW BEx query - WEBi MDX query

Hi Experts, have we had some discussion on this?
Does MDX query send by WEBi report to BW use the same program to extract data from BW database?
One of the option for WEBi report source of data is to build Universe on top of BEx query. Could you share how this process actually happen.
    I think
    - WEBi query will pass parameters that is relevant for BEx query filter of the universe
    - the BEx query will then extract the data (following normal process if we run BEx query independently)
    - if WEBi has further filtering, it will then get the BEx result above and filter it further ..??
So, how is MDX query come into the picture?
    Or is it:
    - WEBi query and the BEx query will determine what MDX query will be generated, and this MDX query will then fetch the data.
But why BEx query extract data faster then MDX query?
Sorry, i am new to this. hope someone could share some light here. In the meantime i continue to real those documentation and try to get some more ideas of what is actually happening.
    Thanks.

Hi Thanks a lot for pointing this out.
Did i understand it correctly that BEx query is using a different set of program (platform) to retrieve data compare to MDX query, and not MDX uses those program that is used by BEx to retrieve data from BW database and have extra steps on top of that?
Can anyone share what is actually happen WEBi MDX query is executed (how the database is hit with SQL, and what are the tools to evaluate the efficiency of the WEBi (or the used BEx). As for BEx we have RSRT to analyze it right.
And even to test the MDX query using MDXTEST and try to get the data from WEBi report, i found WEBi report still take considerably a lot longer. Why is this so? just because BO is a different system then BW?
And as it's shared the BO 4.0 is using the same platform as BEx to retrieve data from BW database, does this mean we don't need to care about MDX usage in BW anymore as far as BO data extraction concern?
    Thank you very much.

  • JSF Design support for custom controls

I am creating some custom JSF components, for use in my projects. They work fine, but I was not able to make them display correctly in design time (I am using Websphere). They appear like small rectangles, even when they are grids. What is the standard way to provide design time support to my controls? Or al least a way to show them properly in Websphere designer? There must be some way to make it work, because standard components and IBM components are displayed correctly.
    Some hint?

At the moment, the best you can do is fill out all the metadata in faces-config.xml for your component and renderer. Beyond that, each tool developer is currently defining proprietary XML metadata and/or programmatic extensions to provide better tool support. This is, of course, an awful state of affairs, and there are the beginning of efforts today to work towards common metadata and extensions for component developers.

  • $300 /month for 4 conecutive months in BEx Query Designer

    Hello.
Iu2019ve a business requirement to monitor customer spending habit.
The report should display all customers who have spent more then $300 per month for 4 months consecutively.
    Please help
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Khaja,
    Thanks for your quick response.
I've Customer and Calendar Year/Month in Rows and Amount in column. Created a condition for Amount > $300.
What I want is; whenever user runs the report; the report should show only those customers who have spend more then $300 per month for last 4 months consecutively.
    My report would display:
    Customer No.   Calendar Year/Month    Amount
What do you mean by RKF's and how would I create these?
    Thanks

  • Built in support for MapReduce in SAP Hana and SQLSCRIPT

Is it possible to define Pure functions in SQLSCRIPT explicitly as a Mapper or a Reducer?
In Monday, April 20th I was reading this document : http://help.sap.com/hana/sap_hana_sql_script_reference_en.pdf and it was mentionning this feature with code examples.(In chapter 3 "What is SQLSCRIPT ?")
But starting from Tuesday, April 21st it is no longer mentionned as it seems that the document as been updated.
    This is very confusing.
Does this mean that the feature is dropped?

Checking the version of the file I saved to my hard drive (V1.1 from 2015-02-16) I cannot find anything in the "What is SQLScript" chapter that even talks about MAP/REDUCE.
In fact, there is nothing about this in the whole document.
From a programmer point of view, you actually don't have to do that yourself.
While SAP HANA internally uses concepts similar to MAP/REDUCE in order to parallelise and distribute data processing, this is not something you can or should build in SQLSCRIPT.

  • Table for all objects in a bex query structure

    Hi All,
I am looking for some table/report/t code where I can find all Char,Kf,Rkf and Ckfs along with technical name of that query.
I know there are couple of work around for this like capturing a screenshot or collect objects via transport connection and copy paste objects from there.
Basically I need a meta data repository where I can see all this information in a complete manner. I tried to dig around in some tables but they don't have all information  at single place.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vikas

Hey.  There are a number of tables related to query elements.  I would go through them and figure out which pertain to exactly what you need.  You could then buold an InfoSet query (via SAP Query)  to output all the information you are looking for.  Here is a list of the main query tables...
Table Name          Use of the table
RSZELTDIR -      Directory of the reporting component elements
RSZELTTXT     -     Texts of reporting component elements
RSZELTXREF -    Directory of query element references .
RSRREPDIR      -    Directory of all reports (Query GENUNIID) .
RSZCOMPDIR  -  Directory of reporting components.
RSZRANGE      -    Selection specification for an element
RSZSELECT      -    Selection properties of an element
RSZCOMPIC      -    Assignment reuseable component <-> InfoCube
RSZELTPRIO      -    Priorities with element collisions
    RSZELTPROP  -   Element properties (settings)
RSZELTATTR  -   Attribute selection per dimension element
RSZCALC       -  Definition of a formula element
RSZCEL  -  Query Designer: Directory of Cells
RSZGLOBV     - Global Variables in Reporting
RSZCHANGES - Change history of reporting components
Sorry, I know this looks messy,  Cut and paste didn't work for me that great.
    Thanks
