Using hierarchies from SAP BW BEx Query in BO Universe

Hello,
I'm trying to use a hierarchy (e.g. a simple customer class hierarchy) which is a part of a BEx Query in a BO Universe. But until now I have not found a way to get a hierarchy from a BEx Query working in a BO Unvierse.
1. Is it generally possible to use hierarchies in BEx Queries with a BO universe? (at the moment I can see all characteristics and keyfigures from the query... but I can't see the hierarchy levels for the characteristic)
2. If 1) is possible: I want to use a hierachy variable to select a hierarchy depnding on the user who is using a report... that's not a problem in BEx. But: Is it possible to use this query/scenario with a BO universe? Does the BO universe update itself automatically if the hierarchy has changed in a BEx query?
I've tried it with SAP BW 3.5 and SAP BI 7.0. BO Release is XI 3.0. Unfortunatelly without result.
Regards,
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,
1) Hierarchies are mapped in the same way as custom-made universe hierarchies. When a hierarchy is defined on a characteristic in the BW Query, Designer creates one hierarchical structure in the universe, with a subclass for each level in the hierarchy. The structure depends on the current BW Query definition.
2) If the number of levels in a hierarchy changes in the BW query, you must update the universe. In the universe connection select *Use Single Sign On when refreshing
reports at view time* to allow the user to benefit from SAP SSO.
Hope this helps

  • How can we remove the commas from the Formula value in SAP BW BEx query

    Hi All,
How can we remove the commas from the Formula value in SAP BW BEx query
We are using the formula replacing with characteristic. The characteristic value needs to be display as number with out commas.

Do you want to remove the commas when you run the query on Bex Web or in RSRT?

  • Designer support for Subquery against SAP BW Bex Query

BusinessObjects designer has an option in the paramaters window to turn on "Allow Sub-Queries" in a universe that has been created using a olap source.  SAP BW BEX Query to be specific.  Once turned on, you can build a query and the subquery button and functionality is actually enabled and allows you to build it.  When running the query I get an error message "A filter contains a wrong value. You cannot run this query".
Now, I am pretty sure this functionality is not supported on a BW or OLAP source but, I can not find anything definitive from SAP stating that it is not supoorted.  So I want to make sure that this is not one of those situations where everyone just says "It's not supported" but really just doesn't know.  Does anyone have the official word or link to an SAP statement that this functionality is officially not supported.

What I would say is, it won't support. The reason could be, as its not support any structure view in universe designer, that means we cannot create any derived tables where we could use sql query.
I believe the same applies  here too. Even if you look at LOV defintions in universe, it won't show any query.
So the same applies to reports.
    Hope this helps.

  • Connecting Crystal Reports to SAP BW BEx query

    Post Author: mfrank
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
We have used Crystal Enterprise 8.5 to connect to an SAP BW BEx query in the past, however we are having some difficulties.  Rather than trying to upgrade our old CE system, I've been told that we should be able to connect Crystal Reports (2008?) directly to the BW BEx query.  I've been trying to accomplish this, but can't seem to find any drivers that will allow the connectivity.  When I try to set up a connection using OLAP, the only two options listed are Hyperion and Microsoft OLAP.  I have an old version of Brio Query (now Hyperion, now Oracle) that does show up with a driver for BW, but this doesn't show up in my Crystal options.
Can someone give me some advice as to how to connect Crystal Reports to SAP BW?  I realize there are licensing issues with running live data without using Crystal Enterprise (or later BO products), but I'm just looking to print a report to a PDF.
    Thanks

  • No data in Crystal report created on SAP BW BEx Query

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to create a Crystal report on top of a BW query. I am able to login to the BW system and open the BEx query and the objects are coming into the crystal report.
But when I drag and drop some objects into the details area and try to preview sample - it does not show any data (it shows accessing database but doesnt bring any data)
I copied the generated SQL query in to the section in the BW system in transaction code 'MDXTEST' and it runs correctly and shows me the result below there.
Just to try - I unchecked 'Use MDX..' check box by following the path SAP->Settings to check if that could bring back data ... and YES that worked which means data is not coming from the BW query with MDX connection but when MDX seems to be fine and retrieve result when I run the sql statement in tcode MDXTEST.
Also when I do preview samples - I can see in SM50 in BW system that it is trying to run the report just that I am not able to see any data in my crystal report.
Any help in this regards would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sunny

    Hello
The order of display of attributes in Webi and Crystal report would be different.
Collapse the infoobject and skim through the attributes, you should be able to find them.

  • Aggregation Issue when we use Hierarchy InfoObject in the Bex Query.

    Hi All,
I have created a bex Query having some Char's and one hierarchy Infoobject in Rowa and RKF's. I haven't used any Exception aggreagation Objects in RKF. but, when I execute a query in the Over all result it's showing the Exceptional aggregation based on the Hierarchy Object.
    Briefly Illustrated my problem here.
    OrgUnitHierarchy     EmpID       RKF
    Root                          1                1
    RootA1                     1                1
    RootA2                     1                1
    Root                          2                1
    RootB1                     2                1
    RootB2                     2                1
    Root                          3                1
    RootC1                     3                1
    RootC2                     3                1
    Over all result                              3
In the above example the Sum of the RKF is 9. but its showing only 3. When I Connect this with crystal report is the sum of RKF is showing 9. Please help me which is the correct one and why it's not aggregating child nodes?
Is there any Config needs to be done to aggregate all the nodes of the Hierarchy? Thanks for your support in advance

    Hi,
is this related to BEx Analyzer or BEx Web Reporting ? if so then I would suggest to post the entry into BEx Suite forum as this forum is for the SAP Integration Kit from BusinessObjects.

  • SAP BW BEx query - WEBi MDX query

Hi Experts, have we had some discussion on this?
Does MDX query send by WEBi report to BW use the same program to extract data from BW database?
One of the option for WEBi report source of data is to build Universe on top of BEx query. Could you share how this process actually happen.
    I think
    - WEBi query will pass parameters that is relevant for BEx query filter of the universe
    - the BEx query will then extract the data (following normal process if we run BEx query independently)
    - if WEBi has further filtering, it will then get the BEx result above and filter it further ..??
So, how is MDX query come into the picture?
    Or is it:
    - WEBi query and the BEx query will determine what MDX query will be generated, and this MDX query will then fetch the data.
But why BEx query extract data faster then MDX query?
Sorry, i am new to this. hope someone could share some light here. In the meantime i continue to real those documentation and try to get some more ideas of what is actually happening.
    Thanks.

Hi Thanks a lot for pointing this out.
Did i understand it correctly that BEx query is using a different set of program (platform) to retrieve data compare to MDX query, and not MDX uses those program that is used by BEx to retrieve data from BW database and have extra steps on top of that?
Can anyone share what is actually happen WEBi MDX query is executed (how the database is hit with SQL, and what are the tools to evaluate the efficiency of the WEBi (or the used BEx). As for BEx we have RSRT to analyze it right.
And even to test the MDX query using MDXTEST and try to get the data from WEBi report, i found WEBi report still take considerably a lot longer. Why is this so? just because BO is a different system then BW?
And as it's shared the BO 4.0 is using the same platform as BEx to retrieve data from BW database, does this mean we don't need to care about MDX usage in BW anymore as far as BO data extraction concern?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Gurus,
Can i create crystal report using ABAP in SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 3 . as i am not able to see this link in SPRO.

If I understood your question correctly.
Have a look in the link above.
It is possible to use Crystal Reports from ALV.
Tammy Powlas also has some good guides on how to do this.
The ABAP however is not covered that much.

  • Problem with Queries Structures in Bex Query Designer and Universe Designer

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem when i try to do a Universe from a Bex Query Designer.
When I use a Characteristic Restrictions in a Structure, the universe only show me the structure without the objects inside it.
    EJ:
    1) Bex Query Designer
    Colunms
    (Structure) ZSRT_123
                          - (Characteristic Restrictions) Reg Guayana
    >          (InfoObject)     0Product = 'XXX'
    >          (InfoObject)     0Country = 'YYY'
         - (Characteristic Restrictions) Reg Caracas
    >          (InfoObject)     0Product = 'AAA'
    >          (InfoObject)     0Country = 'BBB'
    Rows
    (Structure) ZSRT_456
                   (Key Figure)     Net Sales
    2) Universe designer
    (Class) ZSRT_456
    >(Measure)      Net Sale
    (Class)     ZSRT_123
    >(Dimension)      ZSRT_123
The universe dont translate the two Characteristic Restrictions in the structure ZSRT_123.
Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
I assume that you are using BOE XI 3.1 SP2.
We have added an option in SP2 to generate or not the L00 level.
Unfortunately this option applies not only on characteristics but also on hierarchies, hierarchies variables and structures: that's the reason why you have no elements belonging to the structure generated.
I recommend to always generate L00 in order to have your structure generated correctly.
This issue will be fixed in SP3.

    Didier

  • Cannot see BEx Query in Creating Universe Connection

    Hi,
I have a BEx query based on Multiprovider
I did check the box "Allow External Access to this query" from "Release for OLE DB for OLAP".
When I come to Designer create a connection, that query does not show up.
This has happened with some other query create on that Multi Provider too.
I checked the query for operators.
Note: Queries containing formulas with the operators %RT, %CT, SUMRT, SUMCT and LEAF cannot be released for OLE DB for OLAP. Mentioned in
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/Helpdata/EN/07/0ab63c71f41d5ce10000000a114084/content.htm
    I cannot explain why.
    What could be possible reason?
    Thank you,

Check to make sure the BW role that is used has auth obj S_RS_COMP that provides Display access to the InfoProvider that your query is built on.   The userid that runs the Bex query would also needs Execute access to that query.  You may need to get your SAP security person to run a trace when you start designer and try to create your connection if you find that your BW role already has the auth I mentioned.
SAP made a recent change with 7.0 SP22 / 7.01 SP5 that applied BW security to the display of queries in the Designer.  We could no longer see out BEx quereis in Designer after we applied SP22 until we added Display access to the role we use for our Business Objects service acct we setup.
From SAP Note 1364715 - MDX: Authorization check of BEx queries
    Symptom
You use the BAPI "BAPI_MDPROVIDER_GET_CUBES" to read the BEx queries
available in the BW server that have been released for OLE DB for OLAP
(ODBO) (indicator "Allow External Access to this Query" is set in the Query
    Designer).
    Authorizations are ignored.
    Cause and Prerequisites
    The authorization check is ignored.
    Solution
The authorization check is performed for the user that calls the BAPI. If
an RFC is used to call the BAPI, the check is performed for the RFC user.

  • How To Guide : Impact of a BEx query change to universes and WebI document

Ever wondered about the impact of a BEx query change to your universes and Intelligence documents ? "If I change this, will I need to refresh the universe structure ? will my Web Intelligence documents break ?". This article aims at clarifying these questions for Web Intelligence documents that use OLAP Universe(s) based on BEx query(ies). More specifically, it clarifies which BEx query change does impact Universes and Web Intelligence documents and which one is transparent to them.
The first part of this article provides a summary table. The second part explains what to do to make the universe and Web Intelligence documents reflect the BEx query change. And finally, it covers each change scenario in details with more explanation and screen shots.

    Hi Rajesh J Salecha,
What I understood is like :
You have two queries and both gives same results but one of the query having a parameter.
You have one report which is using query1.  Now you want that report to be copied as Report2 and use Query2 instead of Query1.
If the this is the issue, then you copy Report1 as Report2 and go in Database and change the Data source location to Query2.
Hope this will help you.  If my understanding is wrong then give us the work flow.
    Thanks,
    Sastry

  • Unable to create or modify SAP APO Bex Query

    Hi Experts,
I am using Bex for creating report on APO Cube. But when I am trying to create a new query including Restricted Key Figures or calculated Key Figures, then I am getting error " The query Could not saved due to problem in Transport".
    I tried following options
    1. Checked authorization on the Cube - There is required authorization.
    2. changed the Object changability of Object Type ELEM to " Everything Changable" from " Nothing Changable"
3.Tried creating new query in development system with RKF and CKF. Transported this new query and tried changing this transported query . But again it gave same error.
I am getting this error, only when I involve RFK and CKF in query.
Could one of you please help me with this issue as why I am getting this error and what is solution for it.
    Your help is highly appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Shalaka

    Hi.
In RSA1->transport connection->BEx check whether you have transport attached to project.

  • Problem using WSDL from SAP in IBM's RAD for generating web service client

When importing a WSDL from the ABAP stack on a SAP 6.40 system into IBM's RAD tool for generating a web service client there are errors with the soap fault classes that get generated.  The WSDL declares the types for the faults with WebServiceName.RfcException and these have elements of name, text, and message.  When the tools see this in the WSDL they generate classes that extend the Java exeception class and this causes an error because the "message" name conflicts with the standard java exception message.  Has anyone else ran into this problem?  It seems like a basic problem many java tools for generating web service client proxies would have because the soap faults get turned into java exceptions.  This name conflict of the java exception with the WSDL fault definition means that code always needs to be adjusted and cannot simply use the classes that are generated from the WSDL.  Anyone run across this or a similar problem in the java environment using the SAP WSDL?
