Display of Sender Identity - Inconsistency

I use Apple's Mail as my email reader. When I receive an email that has been sent to a number of recipients some of the names are displayed with just the name and some with the name and email address, for example, "John Smith" or "John Smith <[email protected]>". This is when I have the Mail preference "Viewing > Use Smart Addresses" checked. If I uncheck that preference all of the addresses will be displayed with the name and email address. My preference is to have all of the names displayed with just the name and not the email address. Is there a setting that will accomplish this?
I'm using Mail Version 44 (1082) running under OS X Version 10.6.6.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have a related problem which illustrates the inconsistency. If the sender's is in my address book sometimes the sender's name is shown and sometimes the email address! If the sender is not in my address book then the name always show (in the examples on my machine now). I have looked at the raw headers of one in the address book (email address) and one not (name) and, to the untrained eye, I can't see a difference. I tried re-inputting but the address book one still shows the email address.

  • Wrong photo displaying for sender of iMessage

    Wrong photo displaying for sender of iMessage .Contact information says another contact is "ME,"  it says ME next to anther contact, but it is not me. They are not signed in in icloud. I am signed in. So I do not understand

    As per my post above, I believe the fix to be:
    "When I got to General, I worked my way down the list and imagine my surprise when I found Siri of all things had her name down against it and not mine.  Lo and Behold, when I changed this to my name and returned to iMessage, my photo now displayed against my replies.
    So, if you have someone else's photo showing on your iMessage replies I strongly recommend you look at Settings > General > Siri first!"
    Hope this helps Roger.

  • HT2811 So, my cinema display is sending short long short...

    Okay, so my cinema display is sending short long short. That means I have a pwer supply probem, apparently.  But I have two screens and so can swap over the power supplies; the one giving the error message continues to err, so the fault is not with the power supply but with the screen itself, right?
    The screens having been working perfectly for years (five?). All I did was carry them between buildings. A static charge is a possible occurrence here in a dry part of China. The screen has working ports - the keyboard I am using is driven by the faulty screen (the screen procaliming a fault, really).
    What am I missing? I'm out of ideas - and, being China, help is a long way off.

    You uhave to buy a 150 Watt power supply to make it work again. its a well known problem.

  • Draft Message multiple attachments not displayed or sending

    When creating a draft message with mutiple attachments, they are displayed in the preview window but opening the message only displays a single attachment. Sending the message will only send the single attachment. Closing the message window and previewing from the draft folder will display all attachments again although they will disappear when re-opening the message.
    The same problem occurs on two separate machines of work colleagues. All attachments are Word documents.

  • Video does not display when sending from Final Cut Pro to Motion

    Suddenly, when sending an audio & video sequence to Motion, a new Motion file is created, and all my layers come in properly, but the video does not display.
    The audio plays fine, and Motion clearly know that there are video tracks there, but it does not display them.
    Additionally, when rendering the Motion file back in FCP, it turns in to black video.
    I have previous sequences within the same project that were sent just fine, and are editable properly, but any new ones I try to create just come out black.
    Help, please?

    Do you have Motion mistakenly set to render out with an Alpha channel?
    Double click your Motion clip in the Timeline. Go to Modify > Composite Mode in the menu bar and set the Alpha to "None/Ignore".

    Yes .. change the doc_type.

  • How can I set up Apple Mail to display the sender's "from icon" in the header info?

    Hi,
    I have gone into the preferences to set up custom headers, so that the icon sent to me from the email sender will display in the header, but do not see an option for this.  I want to do this for Comcast as a source specifically, as they embed an icon in their official emails and I have been receiving phishing  emails from sender pretending to be Comcast.  Comcast states on their website, that you can see their icon in any mail they send, however, this does not happen on my version of Apple Mail (4.5).
    Here is an image of the info shown on the Comcast website, in case that helps to clarify my question.
    Thanks,
    Kim

    On the Internet Accounts System prefs choose Add Other account…
    Pick Mail account.
    On the first page where you enter username and password, hold down the Option key and the Create button will change to Next. Click that with Option held down.
    You can then manually create the account.

  • Display of sender's name in email messages (order backwards)

    If I receive an email sent:
    From: "Xyz, Ltd." <[email protected]>
    In my list of emails the sender appears correctly as Xyz, Ltd.
    But if I open the email itself, it displays as:
    Ltd. Xyz <[email protected]>
    If I look at the same mail in Gmail it displays with the name correctly.
    I assume in one place Mail is taking the name literally, but in another place it is assuming "aaa, bbb" is a "last name, first name" notation because of the comma.
    Is there a way of getting Mail to display this consistently?
    Thanks,
    doug

    Actually, in this case the sender was me, testing a mail sent to my personal address to see how it would look to other customers when they receive it. So I would have no control over the other customers, if they are using Mail app.
    The alternative is to just list my company's name as Xyz Ltd. instead of Xyz, Ltd. But for a company name it's most common to have the comma there I believe.

  • Need to customize the text displayed while sending payslip as pdf in mails

    Gurus ,
       monthly we will run a report which will send the payslip as pdf to the employees . Now we need to edit the text that is getting displayed in the mail while we attaching the payslip as pdf and send .
    how to achieve this

    Hi Sarvan
    Go to messages >> communication method , change the field Cover Page Text with ur po number and send. This is a manual process which you will have to do it for each po.
    Now if you want to automate this then you can ask ur abaper to write a small program which will copy the po number to this field.

  • When I export an email as a PDF it only displays the sender details not the content

    I normally export any email I wish to save as a PDF, for some reason a tax receipt I've just received, when exported as PDF, displays only as the sender's details, i.e. name, address, date sent etc.
    I've tried saving as RTF and converting but when it converts to PDF it moves the formatting around so figures aren't in one column anymore. Has anyone experienced this and solved it? Thanks.

    I'm seeing the same, when I try to export as PDF. It looks like Mail were formatting and scaling the mail like formatted in the Browser Window and all content is on the following pages of the document. So a simple Mail will be spread across several PDF pages.
    I get better results when opening the mail in a separate window (⌘O) and then using the "Print" button in the toolbar of the window. Then I can access the settings for the paper size and ensure it is A4 and the paper handling settings and enable "Scale to fit".
    Then click the "PDF" button to save to a PDF file.

  • Add-AdGroupMember. Passing variable in Identity inconsistent.

    Can't get variable to work correctly within the identity parameter.
    Here is what I am trying to run:
    $sitename="Site"
    add-adgroupmember -Identity "cn=ACL_Facilities-$sitename_Read,ou=$sitename,ou=facilities,ou=file,ou=groups,dc=domain,dc=private" -members "cn=$sitename Users,ou=$sitename,ou=Shadow,ou=Groups,dc=domain,dc=private"
    Tells me "Directory object not found".
    If I change within Identity and enter the text, not the variable, it works fine. It works fine being within members without issue.
    If I leave only the second variable in identity it works fine.
    What am I missing? The use of variables seems so inconsistent, works fine with some commands, not with others, works find in some places and parameters, not in others on the same commands...

    The underscore character (_) is a valid character in a variable. When PowerShell parses your string and finds a dollar sign ($) it will see everything after the dollar sign up to a non-variable character (eg. space, comma, period) as the name of the variable.
    So it sees "$sitename_Read" as the variable. And that variable is not defined. Therefore it will evaluate as null.
    You need to use "${sitename}_Read" instead, as that will tell PowerShell to parse only $sitename as the variable.

  • Newly Puchased Refurb iMac Display blew; Send back or repair?

    Just wanted to get some thoughts from the forum gang. I just purchased a new refurb iMac Intel Core 2 Duo white from the Apple Online Store, and it worked great...for about 2 weeks, when last night the display freaked out and then blacked out. I took it in to my local Apple Store to be repaired, and they told me I had the choice, since I just received it May 9, to have them repair it or that I could send it back to Apple for a new one. Well, a new refurbed one. I was really torn. At least with this one I know everything else worked great, and if all they have to do is put in a new display, it will be a lot easier than removing the added RAM, repacking it, mailing it back to Apple, waiting for them to receive it and send another one, and then wait all day for FedEx to deliver it.
    If it had been a new computer, I wouldn't think twice about sending it back, but how do I know I wouldn't get a replacement refurb iMac with more problems? So I opted to let the Apple Store repair the one I have. As the replacement display was not in stock, I do have some time to weigh my decision. What do you all think is the better option? Thanks much.

    Normally you have the 14 day timeframe to reject the Mac. Sometimes with a refurb you pay for the model and occasionally you get an Easter Egg or two. Were there any free upgrades that came with the Mac? Upgraded HD or graphics card or extra RAM?
    With a brand new Mac you would not get a refurb replacement during the 14 day timeframe, you would get another brand new Mac.
    Since this is a refurb, this may not be the first thing to go wrong. It could be a lemon, it happens, even with Apple. I would definitely buy the Apple Care extended warranty with this one.
    Then again, replace the display and you may have the best 'puter you have ever had. One can never tell with electronics. But Apple always stands behind its product.

  • Help! 5700 Xpress Music unable to display msg send...

    Please help with this.
    i m a 5700XM user in New Zealand. My 5700 never displays the msg sender's name (i have sender's phone number stored in the phone book).
    Here's the situation:
    A friend named Jack is stored in my phone book with a cell phone number 0211123456 (fake number but length is correct).
    If Jack call me, my 5700XM will show "Jack's Calling.."
    HOWEVER, if he send me a txt msg, my 5700XM only shows the incomming number which is "+64211123456"!!! This is anoying.
    I don't know if there is another way to config the phone to recognise the +64 number, or may be there is some sort of software to fix it.
    Regards.

    Always store your contacts the international way with+ sign. Most likely the messageservers use the international code by default.

  • Display and Send the Smartforms

    Hi,
    I send the smartfoms with pdf attachment.
    But My client requirement is send and display the smartform.
    can you please help me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    venkatesh

    After sending the Smartform, you could call the assigned FM again to display the form in print preview mode... something like this:
    wa_control_parameters-no_dialog = 'X'.
    wa_control_parameters-preview = 'X'.
    wa_output_options-tddest = 'LOCL'.
    CALL FUNCTION fmname
      EXPORTING
        control_parameters = wa_control_parameters
        output_options     = wa_output_options
      IMPORTING
        job_output_info    = wa_job_output_info
      EXCEPTIONS
        formatting_error   = 1
        internal_error     = 2
        send_error         = 3
        user_canceled      = 4
        OTHERS             = 5.
    There was a similar thread a few days ago, where the requirement was to download the form in PDF and display it: "OTF end command // missing in OTF data" while converting smartform to pdf
    There is a working test program in that thread, you could replace the downloading part with the email logic that you already wrote. Then call the FM again at the end for the form display.

  • Why does Apple Mail preview pane display only sender's first name?

    Some, but not all, of the mail I receive shows only the sender's first name in the preview pane. I've checked the three areas others have mentioned as possible sources of the problem: 1.) Both first and last names appear for these senders in my Contacts. 2.) None of these senders appear with only first names in my Previous Recipients list. 3.) The full headers don't show first name only.
    When I used Entourage, emails from the same senders never showed only first names in the preview pane.
    Is this a bug in Apple Mail? Is there a workaround?

    I came here looking for a similar answer. Some of my HTML messages show up just fine in Mail 3.5. Others, I get the plane text alternative or a bunch of raw HTML. With no answer in sight on the Discussion groups, I decided to look at the raw mail message of one of the offending emails.
    Under the View menu I found a sub menu called Message then there are 6 choices beneath that:
    *Long Headers*
    *Raw Source* (which is what I was looking for)
    +(and then below a separator I found a surprise!)+
    *Plain Text Alternative* (grayed out)
    *Previous Alternative* (grayed out)
    *Next Alternative* (available)
    *Best Alternative* (available)
    Only the appropriate ones for the current message display format are available.
    So low and behold selecting "next" or "best" changed my message into fully readable HTML format with pictures, formatting, etc.
    I am assuming that something in the way that the multipart MIME message is assembled by some senders' systems does not sit well with Mail. I'm not going to bother figuring it out, but I'm sure that close examination of the raw message would give some clues.
    Now if only I could figure out how to choose the message format based on the sender, I could eliminate having to change every message that comes in from that sender. Maybe AppleScript and a Mail Rule?
