EIS - OLAPICMD Question.

Hi,
In EIS, when using the
olapicmd -f<esbfile>
command to load data into Essbase, all the rejected records will be logged to a fixed dataload.txt file under a dynamically generated folder name under 'loadinfo' folder on the server.
Is there a way to route the rejected records to any other place? Is there any option on the olapicmd?
Appreciate your thoughts.

I ain't quite sure if you-
(i) Are merely interested in moving the rejected records' file to a different location Or
(ii) Would like to get the format of the reject records' file altered ?
If (i), I believe- Your batch file may want to check the log file for errors & if present, ftp the latest file to the server you'd like to analyze from;
If (ii), I think only Oracle may help you out.

EIS cbs script question

We have an EIS-generated cbs script that appears to keep a lock on the Essbase outline even after it is done performing its function. I noticed that there is no 'logout' command within this script. Could that be the reason the EIS user retains a lock on the outline? If so, I suppose I'll have to manually enter in such a command. Where is a good resource to learn more about the EIS scripting language. I've searched the EIS help but can't find anything remotely close to what Essbase has for ESSCMD or MAXL. Thanks!

If everything goes fine then it should create .cbs file and export to \\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\eis\server\batch.
Check in that location whether file exists or not.

EIS unix error.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a little help here with some EIS error codes on unix. I have some jobs set up to run olapicmd with cbs scripts and on most of them I get an error 105 after the LOADDATA command. There is no text describing what happened in the LOADDATA section in the log, its just blank.
I hit the documentation to and found "The complete lists of OLAPICMD return codes (unixrtcd.txt and winrtcd.txt) are located in eis/server/docs on UNIX and eis\server\docs on Windows." however I was unable to find that document.
So my questions are:
1) does anyone know where to find the unixrtcd.txt?
2) does anyone have any help tips on where else the error text might show up?

I have resolved this issue.
I have created new databases and configured with those databases. Created EIS Catalog successfully.

I'm using the RDBMS WebLogic adapter for RDBMS EIS and I can create 'application
views' which perform correct operations on the EIS such as "create new entry"
in the database, "delete entries" (using SELECT and DELETE sql commands ) but
I permanently get the error listed below when I use UPDATE queries in the Service
I implement on the RDBMS adapter.
Has anyone seen this before ? Sorry if the question was answered before but I
don't find any error like this one in any BEA newsgroup.

Hi Lakshman,
I use the standard PointBase server provided with the BEA 8.1 platform.
Here is an attachment which details all the tests and the error reported by the
WLI8.1.
The different SQL requests are detailled as well as the XML generated files.

Resilient connections to EIS

Hi all,
I've got a question regarding designing a weblogic-based solution that needs to talk to an EIS.
Basically we have a new system that also needs to keep an old system up to date for an interim period. In order to do this the new system is placing messages representing transactions onto a queue to be processed asynchronously. We are currently considering 3 options:
- Message driven beans using JCA
- WLI process using JCA
- Writing our own message consumer which manages threads to write to the backend (the reason for this will become clear below)
Basically the worry we have is that the backend may become unavailble (planned or unplanned) and we're worried that an MDB or WLI solution has no way of automatically stopping processing and then automatically picking it up again once the EIS comes back. We bascially don't want to get into a situation where we have a pool of MDBs (for instance) continually trying and failing to connect to the backend (filling the logs and wasting resources). The roll-your-own solution was therefore to enable us to control the number of threads that were attempting to connect by recognising failures and closing down all but one polling thread until we got a response again.
This RYO approach feels really wrong, though, and it seems that WLI must have something in it to cope with this kind of failure situation. I have seen some stuff in the docs about automatically suspending and then restarting processing but am unsure if any adapters support this model. For information we are currently looking to connect to an Adabas/Natural backend via either 3270, CICS or direct natural connections.

It depends.
I was assuming they had area 0 at both DCs as you mentioned that.
You should really use two areas and then they would need to filter your routes because you would be injecting them into one area on one link and then they would be sending them to you on the other link.
The problem arises if each of their DCs is using different areas.
So say the main DC is area 0 and the backup DC is area 1.
All OSPF areas need to be directly connected to area 0 and obviously this wouldn't happen on the link to the area 1 DC if you use your own area.
You can use virtual links but you should avoid these if possible.
If you simply use their existing areas at your end then that means you are going to receive type 1 and type 2 LSAs as well.
I don't think I can give you a definitive answer because there are too many variable in terms of OSPF areas, summarisation etc.
Are the subnets within your main and backup DC different and the same question for their DCs ?
Depending on the answers to the above it may make more sense to run EIGRP across those links using summary addresses at your end for the subnets and let them do the redistribution because EIGRP does not have the same issues with areas.
I cannot see how that would affect their VRFs and even if it did they can always create a non VRF interface for the exchange of routes
I'm happy to help out further when you get more information but I think you need to talk with the other network guy especially about how the OSPF connections are going to work.

EIS 6.5.2 - Template SQL Error

Essbase 6.5.1/EIS 6.5.2/SQL Server 2000/Windows2000 ServerI have customized SQL that works in SQL Server2000. This SQL produces an accurate drill report.I then replace the customized SQL with the $$ variable delimiter: $$Cedant-COLUMN$$ IN ( $$Cedant-VALUE$$ )All Dimensions but one (the BIG one 15K mbrs) are drillable. The large dimension (cedant) requires Gen2 intersection point.The first verify error I get is 'cannot find alias or column 'al'.So I replace the cedant alias name with 'al'.The next error received is SQL #1: Error -1: Syntax error in DT SQLODCB Error[Microsoft][ODBC SQL SERVER DRIVER] [SQL Server]Invalid column name 'cedant_level0'cedant_level0 is the Gen2 intersection point, but is not located anywhere in the SQL statement.Any help w/b appreciated. Can send the SQL stmt.

For questions 1 & 2, if you cannot find a way to concatenate in EIS, depending on your SQL engine, you could concatenate and store in column in database.

Alternate fact table without disturbing the existing fact table in EIS

Yes you can have multiple models and metaoutlines load one cube. I've done it before. The trick is you ahve one "master" metaoutline that you put all the measures in (even if they are manually added. You use that to build the cube. Then you can have multiple metaoutlines build different measures within the cube. The idea is you have to have them update different intersections or the last one in will be what you get. I have a client that gets sales info from one source, shipment info from a different relational source . in all I have 10 differnt models and metaoutlines that build one cube. you just lump the load statements into one CBS file. It works great (or as great as EIS works). The biggest issue is timing to make sure all the sources are available when the load is going to be doe. Of course you could build different parts at different times.

EIS load kickouts handling to an "unassigned" parent bucket

Hello, a question for the Essbase EIS/AIS pros out there. Is it possible and if so, where in the EIS GUI could I specify where to drop a given dimension member record kickout during EIS the member load? For example, if I created an "Unassigned" parent member in a couple of major DIMS (accounts and locations, for example) each and wants any kickout goes there instead of the usual text file, how'd would I do that? Currently you would have to use another product to do this, namely your relational database. This is a documented feature for EIS, however it doesn't work correctly. I opened a trouble ticket, after months of going back and forth proving it was in fact a defect, they admitted it was a defect. However, since I am on version 7x and there are no patch releases set for version 7, I would have to pay to move to System 9 to get this feature. Actually, as far as I know it's not working properly in System 9 either, but at least if I was on System 9 they would have to commit to a patch. I work around this in my relational database. It's a pain, but it works.<BR><BR>To answer your question specifically, if the feature worked properly you would set it by going into your meta-outline, right clicking on the dimension in question, go to the 'Outline build' tab and enable the default misc member.

EIS error - "Unable to set locale for GlobalC"

Hello all!
I'm working with Oracle Performance Scorecard and Oracle Integration Services to generate an Essbase cube. I'm not able no generate my cube from HPS even it doesn't showing any error in the screen but in the HPS log it shows the error message "Unable to set locale for GlobalC". So, i've noticed that the problem isn't with HPS, but EIS. I decided start the EIS shell (olapicmd.exe) and the same error message was showed in the cmd prompt. Could anyone help with this issue?

EJB to connect to EIS for SPI in Resource Adapter

          In the literature and the spec there is no mention of having the EIS be exposed
          as an EJB and the Resource Adapter have connections to the EJB via the SPI. What
          is everyones thought on this matter? There is tons of examples with JDBC and
          Socket Server stuff, but, little if any mention of having managed connections
          with an EJB.

Lenovo G550 EISA partition problem

I have Lenovo G550 whit Windows Vista Home Basic(bay it whit this OS and whithuot Recovery CD).
By mistake i delete eisa partition when installing MacOSx.After that I restore all files from EISA partition to my other partition.
So my question is -can i somehow recreate this partition to be able recover my original windows and software and
be able to use again this button near to the power buton .

there are about 113 backup wsi file, the one with number 34 seems damaged. for factory backups there's another issue with it. did you make any changes on volumes? cause if you did, one key recover and one key recover button will stop working.
in normal circumstances, eisa part is not visible. i'm not sure if it works if you copy files to usb.
if windows vista installed, run one-key recover 6.0.
already got backups, skip "back up" otherwise click that.
select full backup, quick compression and next >
choose the path or leave it default and next >
and start.
after back up ends, restart the application one-key recover 6.0
click "create recovery disc" and next >
select the backup you have and next>
this screen will tell you how much cd or dvd you need, min 2 dvd or 8cd, max 7 dvd or 28 cd. and next>
insert the blank cds or dvds into driver and wait until done.
you may need the system image, you can lose your back-up cd, or cds may not working after a while, so , i still recommend that you keep the original copy or more than one backup.
size of recovery cd depens on how much size of disk space you use. its up 2-7 dvd or 4-28 cd.

Essbase Question

Hi all,
Currently I'm working on ASO Cube ,Version 11.1.2.
I'm Build my cube using rule files and the source is coming from sql server.Using Sql Interface I'm build the Cube and loading the data into the cube.My question is when I retrieve the data using excel Can I see the Sql Query which is pulling the data in Excel.
and I would like to know is there any alternate way where i can see the sql query for the data in Excel.(May be EIS)

The SQL is just the way to load the data into the cube. Once the data is there, there is no way to see the query that created it. It is the same with EIS.

EIS Migration Best Practice

Hello, All
I have a couple of questions on EIS upgrade and migrations. Appreciate any useful inputs:
1. What is the best way to automate the EIS application migration from one environment to another environment? I doubt whether LCM can be used. On the other hand, I think there maybe an export/import options available, but is there a command line utility to trigger this export/import so that we can put it into a batch job? If it works, anything else that needs to be migrated?
2. If it is to upgrade from 7 to latest version of EIS? Can we simply restore the EIS catalog, and let the system to automatically convert/upgrade the catalog?

That is correct, there is no command line migration utility.
Supposedly, you can install a 32 bit version of EIS on a 32 bit environment and do the XML import on that, but I haven't had any success with it.
Yes, you should just be able to use the backup/restore of the EIS repository for EIS migration. We did a simple "lift & shift" of the repository database when we upgraded. We didn't rebuild or migrate anything.
We could have just left the catalog in place and pointed the new EIS at it, but our SQLServer2005 group wanted to keep the naming conventions consistent across all the Oracle Hyperion databases.

Integration Services Question!

Guys,
I have a couple of questions regarding the Integration Services 9x.
Can we store the Metadata Catalog in one SQL server and pull the data from another SQL server. Another one is, what is the best way to migrate Metadata Catalog from EIS 7x to 9x.

It is fine to have the metadata catalog on one server and the data on a different one. They are defined from the odbc connections you have created on the server. As for migrating the repository, I suggest reading the installation and configuration guide for the version you are migrating to. IT will have specifics on what you have to do.
