Emailing .gif?

When I drag a .gif from the Finder to a 'new mail' in Mail.app the gif does not animate. It just sits like an image. Question: How do I send animated .gif?
2. (sorry for OT)
What's the best program to open .gif with? Safari does it but lags quite a lot. Some gifs open fine in Quicktime but many gifs are set to loop and this disappears in QT.

unfortunately you can no longer send animated gifs via Mail.
that is to say Mail doesn't play them. If you attach an animated gif to an outgoing message, the ability to play them depends on the receiver's e-mail client. If it's Mail.app they won't play, if it's something else, they might.
This ability existed in Tiger but was removed in Leopard for mysterious reasons. Apple says it's new feature. go figure...
You can request that they put this feature back at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
QT plays them just fine. to loop them select loop from the view menu.

Newbie help me obi wans: ...coded locked by template or translator
Hi Folks,
I'm such a newbie to DW I've been using it for a few years actually, but in a very basic sense.
I dloaded a template, added some graphics, made some buttons etc.. and of course text, but when it comes to coding,
I've only figure out how to add spaces lol
I'm trying to add a flash video to my samples page. I can add images, but every time I add the .flv, I receive the subject message.
So here are 2 issues:
1. I don't know if this related to #2, but I can't erase the 3rd column...or even use it. it's locked - I see a circle with a line through it. The template I bought did say it was 3 columns, but I don't understand why I can't touch it. I've attached a tiff of what it looks like right now.
2. as the subject says "changing code is locked by the template is locked a template or translator" is giving me grief.
I've reviewed the previous posts on the subject, but I'm afraid my newbie-ness has left me not knowing what to do. ie. I can't find a time/date to change...I see the <head> and <script>, but they're greyed out on the one page I'm trying to edit. They're not greyed out on the template page however.
I also tried saving my .dwt as a new template, but that didn't work either.

I found the 2 things to change, but when I go back to my page...everything is gone! eek
(fear no panic - I did back up my website prior to making any changes
(file attached).
it looks like there is only 1 column instead of 3 sections. I was hoping to lose just the one on the right.

text titles were combined to create a presentation that
will provide generations with a history on their forefather
in this biography.</p>

Hi,
I have a client server report which contains a gif.
When I genereate the report as a HTML email, the
gif image does not appear (The email & gif files
are copied to the Outlook express folder on the
client machine).
The image is displayed fine when I generate to
HTML File.
Can anyone tell me why the images is not displayed in
the HTML email,

I tried with a simple report which contains a gif image . When the report is sent as an html email ( in a client-server config ) , I can see the email fine with the image in my netscape client .
So this could be a problem with email client also .
Can you please try with netscape client ( Netcape 7.0 preferably ) and let us know ?

DW 8 not displaying background image in a tag
Hi,
New to DW 8.02 on a WinXP Pro machine. I'm finding that DW 8
(and DW MX2004) will not display a background image inside an
<a> tag. Attached is an example code. The page displays
correctly in IE 6, FF 2, Opera 9, etc, etc. But in design mode in
DW 8 I can't see the graphic at all.
Is there a way to have DW display the graphic? Is this a bug
in DW?

Set icon for toggle control of JTree node.

Just a question.
I am looking towards setting the icons of the JTree by this i mean the icon that you click on
to open say a node .
I know you can set the icons of the nodes by setIcon inside your TreeCellRenderer but i doubt that
that will set the icon that is to the left ot your label.
Has anyone gone down this path recently.
The class BasicTreeUI has a method
called paintExpandControl( Graphics g,

Hopefull this is a method that can paint the toggle node so has anyone subclassed BasicTreeUI and done something like this recently.

Hi, Im having some trouble aligning my divs in IE 7 and older versions of FF. The divs in my date block as well as my top nav div are pushing everything down. Ive been trying different things for days and nothing seems to work. As of now Im unable to make it live so you can see the problem but heres my code. To shorten it, i took out some of the scripts. 1. Get rid of the -195 top margin
did you mena -95 within my topnav?
2. Delete and put into the topnav

And i put these images in my topnav but then that just puts these images above my page. I added in some float styles and it helped a little but not by much at all. Is there possibly a way of doing this while leaving the images where they originally were? The page works fine in most browsers so it cant be designed all that bad. Im only having issues with topnav and my date block so it has to be something within those two. I added in screenshots below. Again, I appreciate your help

Dreamweaver CC fluid grid perfect in Chrome, not great in Firefox, disaster in IE.
I got past the problem of the fluid grid layout lines disappearing along with handles/etc., and was so excited that I got our site to work responsively in Chrome, but I don't understand why it won't work in the other browsers (seems this was also a problem with CS6?). I build with both design and code, and I just can't find the problem, or any online help for this. Any ideas where I can look for more information? Thanks!!
Thanks for the advice to validate. I found some minor end tag errors on the page and was able to fix them. However, I still have the browser problem. In FF, the only problem is that the logo slides behind the main body in larger screen sizes. In IE, the swf is absent, the logo loses the rounded border, the accordion obscures everything at the top of the main body and squishes the text together, I lose the background attributes for both the main body, Kuali nav panel and both background and text features for the footer. Unfortunately, I don't know how to share a link for assistance, as the testing server is behind the JHU firewall. I've copied the source code for the index page below in hopes that someone can see some noob error I've made... Thanks so much for your help!!!!

Java applet (pre)loading screen
Hello everyone,
As a java programmer I was wondering if it is possible to customize the java loading screen (Which runs before opening a java applet). It doesn't look really nice when a customised applet is running, but the viewers first get the orange java loading object.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

Animated Gif showing OK in Mac Email Body but not the PC

Not sure where to post this (MAC or PC Photoshop forum), but I will try here first.
I have an animated gif that is placed in a Microsoft Word Document and then Sent from there, as an HTML e-mail.
This guarantees that the animated gif shows up in the body, not as an attachment.
All is well on the mac side, but the PC just shows the first frame...The animation doesn't work.
Does anyone know why?
I have checked on Outlook 2003 and 2010...no animation.

I agree 100%...Unfortunately, We want to add a little bit of animations to our evites..nothing extravagant, but many of our in-house folks and clients use Outlook. We initially started to use the Word option, because we didn't want the emails to be just background images, as there were other issues.... but we couldn't send them as attachments either, as we wanted the evite to be in the body when they opened the e-mail, not an attachment. If you have any other suggestions about how we could use an animated gif in the body of an e-mail to show up in outlook, I am all ears!!! Of course, like Jeffery points out, if Outlook won't play them anyway, then we simply can't do it. I just have to believe there is some way to do this that will work for outlook as well???
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

I've recently downloaded several small sized animated .gif files on safari to the iphone camera roll, and I cannot email this file for whatever reason. I get "Saving file" when I "Email Photo" and it will continue saving the file in a loop, which is quite odd since the file is already saved on the iphone. This happens on any of the animated gif files I have on the phone. I figured since I can download that file rather quickly, is it the upload that is slowing things down? I have left some running for over 15 minutes with no avail. I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks.

babsI think this is just the way things are.
I inserted an animated GIF in an Outlook 2003 eMail, for which I have configured Word 2003 to be the editor. It didn't animate while I was composing the eMail. I imagine this is because it's still a Word document at that point; it isn't converted to HTML until it's sent.
However, after I sent it (to myself), I can see the animation both in the preview pane of Outlook 2003 and if I double click the message to open it as an HTML message I see the animation as well. In Outlook, I have the following options set, which seem to be pertinent:
