Enabling Windows-style Alt-key navigation (Alt hit the underlined character

Is there a way to enable in 10.6/Snow Leopard (or maybe via 3rd party app) what used to be in Windows XP, where you can navigate menus in Finder and applications using Alt key. There is a letter of each menu choice underlined (which shows all the time or just went Alt key is pressed)? Hard to navigate with so much mouse movement. Mostly interested in feature in Office 2008 apps since that is where spend a lot of time.

That's true for many shortcuts, and the basic system shortcuts are quite intuitive, and easy to remember. But for some (some of the ones I use the most), there is no simple shortcut. E.g. pressing "alt -> i -> m" (I think it is) in office for windows will open a recently used symbols where you can use the arrows and enter to quickly insert. It takes no more than a second, two at the very most, if you know where you symbol is located in the matrix of 4x5 recent symbols. Otherwise, you can map special characters to key-combos. (e.g. I have alt+a making a Greek alpha, one I need frequently, and have not found a way to do quickly in word for Mac).
The fastest way I've found to insert my Greek alpha in word for mac (without installing extra software like ukelele) is to press "ctrl + F2", then "i", then enter, then "S" twice, then "enter" twice. And then you still need to use the mouse to scroll down and find your character (alpha).
If you know of a quicker way, I'd be thrilled to learn about it? I know it's not hours a day we're talking, it still just feels annoying when you have to do something to much slower than you are used to.

Btw, there are also a lot of programs (especially more specialized ones), where there are no shortcuts, only the link in the menus. In e.g. ImageJ, it has saved me some time being able to go to the menu with ctrl+F2 whenever I needed to copy to system (not just copy), find edges or open histogram.

i tried to use rufus but it didn't worked with the uefi on this tablet, i had to follow the diskpart steps posted on a lenovo support page i found
in my tablet i have win 8.1 single language with bing, so the normal win 10 home doesn't work, i had to use win 10 home single language, it asked for the serial key but allowed to install without providing any, after the installation ended, it activated automatically
the only real problem i had installing was that touch screen didn't worked during install and after logging in, keyboard and mouse stopped working, so i connected via otg another keyboard, installed intel chipset from the support page to get touch screen working and also dock driver to make keyboard and touchpadwork continuously
only problem now is that alt gr key doesn't work, i can't make the @ and other symbols via keyboard, only touch keyboard on screen, no idea what to do, system seems to believe that alt and alt gr is the same key and doesn't matter what keybard or language i set
in general i must say tat win 10 boots as fast or faster than win 8 and also batteyr seems to last longer, more than the 4 hours i usually get
also memory usage keeps around 1.2 gbs and i could delete the recovery parttition so i have 44 gbs free after installing office, libreoffice, antivirus, vlc and other 3 or 4 apps i normally use

Enable Recording multi-tracks when hit the '*'

I'm trying to record 3 vocal tracks at once now.And yes,what i can do is,enable 3 of them by hit on the 'R' and will be the RED blink after hited!
But i realize that it posible to do as below situation, when come to single track (when i recording guitar track),select/highlight the track i want to record and hit the '*' it'll auto enable the recording 'R' button and start record now!!
Now,when come to more than 1 track,like what i'm trying to do now...it can't be(auto enable 'R' button and record immediately) when hit the '*', but only available to the track of highlight (only able to 1 track).however i try to highlight 3 tracks of them...but can't be!!
Need your helps and precious opinion here.Thanks and appreciate so much!!

i tried this method before...Not Work at all...When you highlight the tracks you want in Mixer...it do highlighting...But in the Arrange Window it Don't!!
But the idea of GROUPING from " ambient8 " really work...haaa...i just done it!!!

Hi,
i want to control some buttons on the front panel with the keyboard.
How can i use the cursors (up,down,left,right) for button control. In
the menu key navigation are only the F1, F2... and some other keys.
The question is how to customize the key navigation.

You can't change the keys available to you for keyboard navigation. At least as far as I know. You can, however, make up your own using the keyboard functions that come with LabVIEW. There's an example that ships with LabVIEW that shows you how to do this. You will likely need to use an event structure-based architecture, or something similar.

Can I use a Microsoft Windows Anytime upgrade key for Windows 7?

Apple wired extended keyboard on Vista, windows and alt key

I've got a pair of these beautiful, slim, keyboards that I use under Vista...they are wired units.
The Windows and Alt key are flipped. How can I get the into a windows layout instead of a mac layout?
I downloaded the MS layout editor but it won't let me edit the alt key.

Im using a mac system and adobe CS6 package. mainly works with Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
But shortcuts doesn't works like Alt+I+I, Alt+I+S..... like that as on Windows computers.

I have Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.1, when I am typing text such as email when I hit the shift key and certain letters it activates the shortcut keys and is very annoying how do I get this to stop?

This has happened multiple times. While typing email and also in forums. This is a new computer with Windows 7 so not sure if problem is something in Windows or with Firefox. Sometimes when I hit Shift and t a new tab will open, or shift and w will cause a pop up to come asking if I want to navigate away from this window. I have had other things pop up as well but not sure what they were or what keys I hit that caused them to show up. It tends to happen as I am typing faster. But when this happens, such as the shift t thing, I will close the tab and go back to what I was typing. Watching carefully that i am not hitting the ctrl key I hit shift t and the new tab will pop up again. The only way to get this to stop is to hit the esc key then I am able to to type fine again until it starts again. Once I was typing and my entire text highlighted and disappeared and I lost everything, so yes it can be extremely annoying. Hopefully someone can help me to solve this problem.

Yes, I have rebooted the computer several times. Logged off for the night and login this morning.
It still is happening.
It happens when I type a message in yahoo; when I login to yahoo, both trading platforms and several other applications.
After a while it stops - don't know if there is a key I strike that deactivates what every it is that is making the the keys perform the shortcut function. Sometimes by hitting ESC more than 4 times but less than 10 seems to stop it (or so it appears as the next time I type a msg in Yahoo mail the keys don't activate the toolbar "edit" function. Sometimes striking the backspace key over and over again when there is nothing to delete appears to stop it from happening.
Anymore suggestions? Greatly appreciated. Tired of retyping 3 or more times. Have gotten to the point where I type in word or notepad and paste my username and password into the appropriate areas or into the message area.
Will capture image next time.

You got me experimenting ... and it was viewing the display with the green button (rather than amber) on the left that revealed the menu bar. Hovering didn't do it. Thanks for your help. First time in Apple Support.

Key Navigation when window doesn't have focus

Using key navigation I want to allow the user to instigate a program function by with a key sequence like Ctrl-F1. This works fine as long as the window has focus but does not work if another window is active. Is there any way to get my vi to respond to the key sequence when that vi does not have the focus?

You can use the keyboard input VIs to continuously poll for that key combination. Not as good as an event, but will work without focus. The VIs can be found in the Advanced palette before 8.0 and in the Connectivity palette (I think) later.

Holy crap, this fixes the issue. At least temporarily it has. I should add that my issue was single finger forward/back swipe stopped working on the magic mouse in Firefox since Mavericks came along. I have been fighting this since I upgraded to Mavericks a few months ago. Thank you, tbirdvet. You have no idea how much easier you just made using my iMac again.

Hello fuchs (guess), If you cancelled while downloading the 4GB Lion, no problem, download again. Snow Leopard should run (start holding the option key).
If you cancelled during the install process, I do not know. In this case you could try to start with the CMD + R keys pressed, and choose the restore, which may work if the creation of the restore partition of Lion has finished.
If that does not work, reinstall Snow Leopard with the CD (start holding the C key), after that download the Combo Update 10.6.8 to update the Snow Leopard completely, then redownload Lion (App Store, click "purchases" while holding the Option Key, find Lion, click "install"). If you want to have your own copy of the Lion installer, you have to copy the installer to a Memory stick or burn to DVD before you install, see else where.

Can't minimize all windows with alt, c, M

Is this option, command and letter M? It doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong?

As far as I know there is no global minimize command that will affect all open windows for all programs, all at the same time.
Is it possible that the person at the Apple Store was showing that a bunch of open windows for folders, i.e. Finder windows, could all be minimized at once? Since Finder is considered a program for things like this, then Command-Option-M will minimize all open folder windows (provided Finder is the active app) simultaneously.
Hiding windows is a different thing.
When a program's windows are hidden, they seem to disappear but are not minimized to the Dock. The basic command for this is Command-H. Pressing that combo will hide the windows for the current active app and switch active status to the next open app.
The Option key and clicking can be used to do this. For example, with one or more windows open in TextEdit, Option-click on the Desktop - all of TextEdit's windows will disappear (get hidden) and the active program will switch to Finder.
HIdden windows can be made to re-appear by clicking the icon for the program in the Dock, thus switching the 'active' status to that program.
You can hide all windows except for a chosen active program in one action - with that program frontmost (active), press Command-Option-H. You can accomplish the same effect by holding down Command-Option and clicking in a window for the app whose windows you want to remain visible - windows for all other open programs will be hidden.
